I made a playlist of all the Beatles songs I like, looking for opinions and recommendations too!!
I’ve been a Beatles guy since I was maybe 11 or 12, though recently they have had a bit of a resurgence for me, really since the release of Now and Then.
And as a final note, I am a huge fan of McCartney’s solo stuff, and Wings. Also Harrison’s various projects, especially Traveling Wilburys, so any songs that have this kind of feel I will probably like...
Cheers 👍☮️❤️
We're now on the eve of the Let It Be movie re-release. As I assume we've all seen the Get Back series, we compare that experience to that of watching Let It Be for the first time. I've read in a previous post here that it was edited badly, random clips assembled with no sense of storytelling or context on the actual sessions. Some clips were interesting, while some were not. I guess part of the reason why the four members remembered the movie as dreary because, aside from being filmed during a generally acrimonous period for them, and released after during the break-up, is that it had no direction.
As such, in our quest as nitpicky Beatlemaniacs, how would you have storyboarded Let It Be using clips from Get Back and the movie itself? Remember you have to hit it close to two hours to fit the standard theatrical release.
For me, I'd retain the rooftop concert scenes from the movie (just the take ones for each song), but adding more perspective from the police and the people down on the street. I'd also retain the studio performances for Two of Us, Let It Be, and The Long and Winding Road since it juxtaposes with the live setting. But as for the rest, it's all "what ifs". How about you?
Allow me to preface this by saying that I LOVE the Beatles and I think that they are the greatest band of all time, end of discussion. However, I was having a conversation with a friend and we disagreed about whether the Beatles should've stayed on (if we had some time altering control idk its hypothetical). So allow me to explain why I think they ended perfectly and needn't make any more music as a group, and you tell me if I'm crazy.
My friend's logic was more Beatles = more of the best music of all time, and generally that would be an understandable though process but I think its safe to say that the Beatles had been slowly falling apart for many years up until they broke up. Blame Yoko, drugs, coming off drugs, egos, the death of their manager of whatever else, but we all know its true. In fact I'd go as far to say that they failed to make a universally renowned album after releasing Sgt.Pepper (excluding Abbey Road of course). Magical mystery tour is nothing without the singles that the USA added to side 2, the only song on the ep version isn't worth releasing. Then the white album, despite being maybe MY favourite, is debated about due to its controversial level of filler. And must I even explain myself with Yellow Submarine??
Its safe to say that they were (very slightly) declining in quality as a band and Abbey Road was quite the anomaly, which is what makes it such a perfect album to end on. I worry that if they had stayed together then they would've fizzled out and left a bad taste in the mouths of the public. Also, this way they were able to explore their own solo work and experiment with complete creative control without their egos at each other's throats.
John visits England in 1981, visits his aunt mimi, does a talk show over there as a guest, meets up with Macca at his home in St. John’s Wood, they talk and Linda cooks for them
1982 does another solo album, George plays on 2 tracks
1984 another solo album featuring paul on 3 songs, Ringo contributes
1985, agrees to do live aid on July 13th with the other Beatles as the closing act .
1987/88 Yoko leaves him, John takes it bad.
1989 his hair is now short. Writes a book called ‘the meaning of life as I see it’
1992 still living in America to see Sean but visits England too and coloborates this year with other artists
1994 takes part in the anthology filming with other Beatles
1995 John visits pete best on a whim, whilst visiting his old haunts in liverpool
1999 John plays New Year’s Eve concert for the millennium with Julian and paul
The Obama years, John who was against the system and anti war, gets brought on board the Obama campaign trail and naively gets involved believing he’s doing the right thing but is being used for his fame in a propaganda campaign
Becomes a judge on the xfactor
Has a YouTube channel that’s popular with his thoughts on life
This is an opinion I will always stand by no matter what.
(With the exception of "For you blue" and the inclusion of "Don't let me down")
If there were no Beatles (God forbid) or Stones, what would your go-to band be?
Director Sam Mendes should host a Paul McCartney look-alike contest! The winner could get facial reconstructive plastic surgery to look exactly like the real Paul. The resemblance would be so uncanny that Mendes would have to plant clues throughout the movies to remind us that it is not, in fact, the real Sir Paul McCartney. Like maybe the actor could even be barefoot in the movie poster 🤔
Revolver - So edgy and mysterious, and George's eyes are iconic on this cover, it shows the change in album covers in general.
Abbey Road - Simple and iconic, and the symbolism of them walking away from the studio is awesome.
Sgt.Pepper's - The colours are so beautiful and its one of the most recognisable covers of all time.
White Album - The audacity to make this album cover is magnificent and it works so so well.
Hard Day's Night - It's so fun and cheeky and my favourite square is either John looking through his hands or George turned around.
Rubber soul - The fact that the distortion was a mistake is pretty cool and I like their facial expressions.
Please please me - Pretty fun and lighthearted, fits well within the context of the album.
With the Beatles - Very cool looking but they did Ringo dirty.
Help! - I wish they'd actually spelled 'Help', but this is fine, its pretty bland
Magical mystery tour - I really don't like this, the colours don't work well and the lp version is worse
Beatles for Sale - Very boring and they look grumpy, I guess that fits the album though lol
Let it be - Its really lazy and obviously just thrown together.
What do you think?
I was looking for the unused lyrics from the Let It Be sessions of Octopus's Garden, and was surprised nobody had written them all out besides the "it would be nice / a paradise" in the first verse. So I found a compilation of when they played Octopus's Garden and wrote down what I heard
I’d like to be
Underneath the sea
In an octopus’s garden (or "octopussy's garden")
In the shade (also "by the shade," "by the sea," "in the sea")
/
It would be nice
A paradise
In an octopus’s garden
In the shade
/
My friends would be there
Frank, Bill and Sir
In an octopus’s garden
In the shade
/
[Unused bridge by George]
It really would be nice
It really would be nice
/
[To the tune of “we would sing and dance around”]
So come with me
And we will see
Fishes of every description
/
For every time I see him
He always says hello
And come on inside
/
Every time I see him
He always says hello
/
He puts his many arms around me
Everywhere and tries to charm me
But I’ve gotta go (Ringo laughs when he says this, and other takes have them just end it at "he puts his many arms around me everywhere and tries to charm me" without this last line)
/
He said come in with me and have a bite to eat
I said what would you like he said “I like pigs feet”
/
I’d like to be
Underneath the sea
In an octopus’s garden
By the shade
Hello. I recently heard a song by the Beatles (it was some of their early stuff so it wasn’t too good) and it got me thinking— do we know if any of the Beatles players are still alive? I know it was along time ago.
I know John Lenom was killed in a car crash but what about the other 3 Beatles like Paul macarthy or Rango Star or Yoko Onoh?
I have popcorn strawberries and cigarettes I’m feeling amazing I love this shit I love the Beatles idk if this is the right sub but I’m a fan now
Edit: 12:30 am and now there’s a flood watch but I’m chilling:3
Granted it looks like the shoot took place on a cold day, but the dark patches under the eyes, John's especially, they were DEEP into the grind of churning out multiple albums and singles a year and doing movies and touring including all over the US with all of the press conferences and just NOISE.
I’m still waiting to hear the song Valentine and an officially released version of George’s It Don’t Come Easy.
I’m relatively new to things concerning the beatles, what will be the main differences between the remastered Let it Be film and the Get back documentary?
When i first saw this trailer for Let it be, I was confused because I thought they were promoting the documentary that already exists. My understanding is everything in the Let it Be film was in the Get Back documentary, correct? What should I expect from this film?
