Open In Arte Angers Loire 125 R1: (WC) Belinda Bencic def (Q) Patricia Maria Tig 6-4 6-1

Glad to see Belinda back in action after her last outing at the BJK Cup... The wildcard will face either (4) Anastasis Zakharova or Miriam Bolkvadze in R2

Belinda will also likely get a PR for the upcoming AO 2025

For those who attended this years ao (first round over 3 days) , how busy was it ?

Basically the title. For ao2024, we had the 3 day round 1 change. For those who attended in person, was it easy to change courts and watch whatever match you please? Or was it just too packed?

I have been getting mixed reviews on this. Some people said it was really bad whilst others said u just gotta plan it out well, like getting early. For anyone who was there, what was it like?

Where Murray’s chance at beating Djokovic in the 2015 AO final ended… (gamesmanship or mental lapse?)

What are we thinking about the Laver Cup San Francisco Prices? Will it be worth it?

I have a home in SF so I definitely want to try and go. Those Ticketmaster fees 😒.

For those who were watching tennis back in like 2007/08, did you think that Murray and Djokovic would end up with a similar number of slams?

Iga Swiatek (1 Grand Slam, 4 WTA 1000), Aryna Sabalenka (2 Grand Slam, 2 WTA 1000). Iga won 2 big Tournaments on Hard Court and 3 on Clay, Sabalenka won all 4 big Tournaments on Hard Court.

Rei Sakamoto def. Christoph Negritu 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to win Yokkaichi Challenger

This went by unnoticed for a day but Sakamoto winning this at 18 years old is quite impressive and makes him one of the players to follow for next year. He also made the SFs for the men's doubles, but withdrew to focus on singles. He goes up by over 200 ranks to being inside top 500.

My dream commentary team is Djokovic, Federer, and a third completely normal retired pro who gets progressively exasperated at the other two's suggestions

The appeal would be watching this third completely normal (even exceptional by any other standard) pro slowly go insane as the other two borderline gaslight this poor soul by being completely confused as to why their offered commentary seems absurd.

Just imagine.

Federer: "I think Shapo should've gone for an inside out backhand and aimed for a winner at that point. You gotta be aggressive."

Normal-even-exceptional-by-most-standards-pro: "I...I don't think most people would be able to even try that from that angle. There was no time for his footwork to let him reach that. I think that - "

Djokovic: "No, Rog got a point. But also his opponent is probably keeping in mind that an inside out backhand is something to watch out for, so they might be expecting that."

Normal pro: "I...I really don't...I don't think anyone would be thinking how to return a shot no human body could hit if - "

Federer: "Novak's got a point here, I think every tennis player is always thinking about that kind of shot. I think Rune could return that still so Shapo would have to be thinking about how to do something else to finish the point, but expecting the rally would go for about 7-8 more."

Normal pro would eventually fall into despair.

The other plot hook would be "are Federer and Djokovic fucking with this man on purpose or are they oblivious?"

Because Rafa would 100% do it obliviously. Murray would 1000% do it on purpose and then say something about how "Even Liam Brody could get that and he's God's worst mistake." But Federer and Djokovic have the most "dad humor like the kind to repeat the same joke 100 times on a road trip until the car is driven insane" vibe of that generation.

I would pay so much money for an alternate commentary track like that. Like, UFC PPV prices if the third man is Roddick.
