🍎 Support Teachers Directly with Hometown Heroes! 📚

Hey Reddit community,

I'm excited to introduce you to Hometown Heroes, a platform dedicated to supporting teachers directly! 🌟

At Hometown Heroes, we believe in empowering educators by providing them with the resources they need for their classrooms. Our platform allows teachers to create profiles and share their Amazon wishlist links, so generous donors like you can browse through and support specific items that teachers need the most.

Here's how it works:

Teachers Create Profiles: Teachers can sign up for an account and create a profile on Hometown Heroes. They can share information about their classroom, their school, and most importantly, their Amazon wishlist link.

Donors Give Directly: Donors like you can browse through the profiles of teachers in need on Hometown Heroes and choose items from their wishlist to purchase. No middlemen, no extra fees—your support goes directly to the teachers and their classrooms.

Make a Difference: By supporting teachers through Hometown Heroes, you're making a tangible difference in classrooms across the country. Whether it's books, supplies, or educational tools, every contribution helps create a better learning environment for our students.

We're currently in an early alpha state, so stability of the website is our main concern. Having people sign up and use the website slowly is important to ramp up usage testing.

Are you a teacher in need or know someone who could benefit from Hometown Heroes? Reach out to us at hometown.heroes.main@gmail.com to sign up today. We are looking for any and every teacher.

Let's come together to support our educators and ensure that every classroom has the resources they need to thrive. Thank you for being a hero to our hometowns! 🍎✏️

AI Product for Reading Comprehension built by a 16yo

Hello!

I apologize if I seem like a lost high school student. Because I sort of am.
So a couple of months ago, I set out to address the nationwide issue of low reading comprehension levels. Collaborating with a few other educators, I have identified common concerns, including the lack of engaging online materials for independent student practice and a need for resources allowing educators to effortlessly create custom comprehension materials. So I built an online tool, ReadingDojo. (please keep reading).

Reading comprehension is a foundational skill, crucial for success in state-level testing and standardized exams. ReadingDojo, is a cutting-edge AI tool, is designed to bridge this gap, supporting learners in over ten languages.

Features for Students:

  • Custom reading passage generation to maintain engagement.
  • Question set generation with up to 20 questions, including MCQs and short answers.
  • Real-time feedback on students' strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Targeted practice on specific comprehension skills.
  • Progress tracking and level-up features.

Features for Educators (You GUYS!!!):

  • Host online quizzes with automatically generated questions.
  • Export questions in CSV format for use in third-party platforms.
  • Share sets with fellow educators.
  • Generate printable PDF worksheets for physical assignments.

ReadingDojo is completely free to use if you are willing to sign up right now! It'd greatly support my endeavors and would also make your time easier while trying to help your students improve their reading comprehension, or create reading assessments with ease and make sure that your students actually do the reading that's assigned. Or if you don't want to use it regularly, any feedback would be much appreciated. Or you can give me a reality check to tell me why my product won't work. I understand that teachers are much more busy than a high school student.

Please reach out to me through DMs or at for any questions. I am also available to provide a live demo upon request :)
Here's the website: https://readingdojo.app

Thank you so much for reading the entirety of the post. I once again apologize if I seem like a random high school student pestering you. This is one of the only ways I can reach out to more educators.

How do you deal with essays you suspect are AI-generated?

Hello! I am working on a tool to detect (and prove) AI content in student writing and need to learn more about how teachers currently combat AI use. So how do you deal with essays you suspect are AI-generated?

If you'd like to be among the first to use this tool once it's released, please shoot me a DM or sign up for a 10-minute chat – your input will be incredibly helpful.

Talk About Experiences in Consultation

Hi - I'm a doctoral student completing my master's thesis. I'm hoping to interview two to three, P-5th grade, general education teachers about their experiences in consultation. Two interviews spread out over about a month would occur, each lasting 60 minutes or less. If interested, please click the link below to complete a brief (~5 minute) survey. If you qualify, I'll reach out to set up an interview. Thanks for your consideration!

All the $#!T I Wish I Knew in High School

Hi all,

I wrote a book for young adults (directed primarily at young men) to talk about difficult topics and offer some guidance and perspective. The audio book is FREE to stream via my website: https://www.thathighschoolbook.com/audio-book

I hope you will find this to be a useful tool that can be referred to students, parents, fellow teachers, coaches, and anyone else who works with young adults. It's everything I wish I'd known in high school that would have made that transition from childhood to adulthood a little easier.

Thanks for checking it out!

I started a company and would love teacher feedback

My company is TitanTome.com, we are hosting a school writing competition in Texas, with the hopes to bring the competition to more schools around the United States. The student that wins the competition will have their story professionally illustrated and published. I'd love to hear any and all feedback from teachers as we work to hone our program.

It's Sunday, and you have to lesson plan... let me know if my tools save you time!

The thing I dreaded the most when I was a novice teacher, was spending my sundays at home lesson planning. My daily planning period was never enough time to plan my lesson for the next day, and the teachers that I knew to be one week ahead in their lesson plans were my heroes.

That's why after spending years training new teachers, my friends and I created https://www.planningperiod.io/, a suite standards-aligned of tools designed to help New teachers lesson plan more effectively and accurately while including their classroom context into every resource they create for the lesson.

Planning Period is not a lesson generator, we made it so that it helps you create the most time consuming parts of your lesson plan. So please give it a try today! And let me know how much time does it save you, and if there's anything I could change to make it more effective for new teachers to use!

University led research project

Hello, my name is Tammy Stevenson. I am a master’s student at the University of Chester. I am conducting a study on transitional practices for autistic children. The survey will take approximately fifteen minutes to complete and asks basic questions that surround the transition of autistic children into a primary school setting (reception class). The current survey is open to all primary school teachers (mainstream & specialised), special educational needs coordinator, and any professional specialised staff such as a speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, (ABA) behavioural specialist, and educational psychologists. Participation is voluntary and all responses are anonymised. I would be very grateful if you could spare some time. Detailed information of the research project will be given on the first page of the survey. All participants must be over the age of 18 to take part. https://chesterpsychology.fra1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV\_821EOWcr0pFzlgW
