Tell your family, relatives and friends to be careful while bursting crackers
To all the people who criticize people for spreading awarness about not bursting crackers
Yes I undertsand Deepavali is for celebration.
But at what cost????!!! Will it take bursting crackers and getting someone getting in your own family to say they are dangerous and hazardous?
Will it take your granny and grandpa suffer from asthma to see how bad it gets on diwali?
Will it take your pet amd other strays and birds losing it's mind in fear and anxiety during this season?
I understand you wanna burst and say "live and let live" but WE ARE NOT LETTING OTHER CREATURES LIVE during this time. We are supposed to live peacefully and coexist with each other. And for our selfish one day happiness, you wanna say I will and I can? I feel that is extremely selfish knowing it's consequences.
As kids, I understand. We wouldn't have known. But now? Condemning others for requesting to have a green diwali? How horrible is that? Pathetic.
Immediately a group comes with whataboutery asking:
But these are eseential. If I cook everyday and not store food in my fridge and walk to work often - I have lesser time to work, which means no promotion and no bigger money. No more money for a middle class person means no security for future.
Like wtf folks? It takes common sense to understand this and that are not related. My quality of life will get affected if I don't use these. But not bursting crackers won't. It can definitely be avoided. I know I am already adding to the pollution, my point is to not add to it.
Us merely existing only is a reason for pollution, suggesting/ requesting people to not burst and add to it is common sense. Not a debate for whataboutery.
Yes I plant trees when I can. Yes I walk to office and take public transport as well. But I also use cabs and auto when needed. Yes I have stopped buying fast fashion. I try to not use single use plastics and carry bags every where. I am trying my best to be sustainable.
What is the point if only I do it and others don't? How will a change happen? Aren't you all concered about our future generation? And if we try to create awareness, you call us puluthis?
Yes, irundhutu pogatum. Na puluthi dhan. I am asking you to be better. I am asking you to be mindful and compassionate of others as well.
And given the amount of global warming, adding to diwali doesn't make sense at all. I saw a post saying we can promote green diwali by being compassionate to other creatures and the amount of ignorant and selfish comments, atacking the OP as puluthi and what not makes me lose hope for this generation.
People are making thsi religious. Ffs pollution ain't religious. Pollution during diwali just get so high and it's suffocating and let's not act like it doesn't. I am against any kind of crackers for any festival.
We are all educated people, namale evlo ignorant ah irukradhu? When will this change? One day temporary happiness kaga evlo kashtam erpaduthanum?
The amount plastics and paper generated during this time will take a long long time to either get decomposed or recycled. Half won't even get collected and will clog our drainages.
Spreading awareness on this is essential. It took someone explaining this to me few years back for me to make a change. And I will continue doing the same and kudos to everyone else who had a green diwali.
It makes my heart ache to see the amount of hate for asking to be better and have a green diwali. Our future generations will face the consequences of our actions now. But looks like a lot of you don't care.
Pattasu vedikadhinga nu sollala, vedikama irundha nalla irukum nu dhan solren. This is a free country and we can do whatever we want, but just because we can, doesn't mean we can act without considering others.
My humble request to people who wanna burst crackers. Siru thuli peru vellam, let us reconsider our type of celebration. If you can't give up, alternative suggestion, let us atleast avoid loud ones and go for greener crackers (idk how it is different) and flowerpots, sparklers and sanguchakram kinda ones which won't scare animals and birds and which won't scare and harm people.
Thank you for reading my rant. And to the ones who wanna hate on me, good for you shows the kind of human you are.
This is probably one of my favorite Tamil songs of all time, but most of the words used during the song's verses are words I'm not familiar with or contain words that I understand here and there taking away from my overall interpretation of the meaning conveyed in the lyrics.
I'm a second generation immigrant in Canada born to Indian Tamil parents so most of the words aren't words we use in casual conversation.
Could someone transcribe the lyrics for me in a way that gets the intended meanings across?

Every indigenous political party members in Tamil Nadu predominantly uses the word Deepa-oli to wish for the celebrations. Only BJP members have predominantly used the words Diwali/Deepavali. Even BJP's alliance member Pattali Makkal Katchi has used the word Deepa-oli. From Udhayanidhi to Vijay to NTK members they have used Deepa-oli with some exceptions.
Deepavali or Diwali are Sanskrit/Hindi words while Deepa-oli is half-Tamil word. All these words have the same meaning that is lights from lamp or row of lights.
Is there any hidden politics at play here ?
Hope you all had a great Diwali/Deepawali. Getting to the point straight. I get irritated with the sound of crackers. That too the lound ones. It's not like I don't like fireworks. I enjoy watching fireworks which light up the sky and ground. But I don't understand the idea of creating a high decible sound and calling it a celebration. Am I missing something here ?
18F, college 2nd year med student. When I was 10, one guy in church (gulf/abroad)got close to me, he was from tirunelveli.we got closer and closer, eventually things took a turn for the worse. When I was 12 he got flirty and s*xual via texts and calls, all of this happened online so I didn't even realise I was being forced into doing things I don't like and just because it was online doesn't mean it's not abuse.lil backstory, I've no parents, I blindly believed him and considered my world, eventually I decided to not put up with the bs and ask him to marry me or stop this stuff, but by that time it was obvious that he had no intentions of that though he had mentioned it before. I eventually became addicted, I used to excel academically. Thinking of this shit constantly ruined me, academics didn't take much till except eleventh grade, I performed really well in twelfth and got the best outgoing student of the year award lol. But I was deep into it, I needed counselling, therapy, I was weak without him, I forgot how to live without him. Unknowingly or knowingly I spent my childhood and teenage living as a wife for him rather than having fun like kids do. I needed medications eventually coz I lost the ability to control myself. What's ridiculous is I kept in touch with him and still refuse to see him in a bad light till college.he got married ten months back and cut all ties, but he talks when I have emergencies (with my AC) and when I wish him for birthdays. There are a few questions bugging me:
Besides, we basically lived with each other though we were apart, voice calls continuously, video calls with us talking Nd doing our own work, voice calls while travelling, texting while we can't call. So this should've given y'all an idea on how we were. Sometimes I feel I've seen shit and I can handle anything. Sometimes I feel I've never lived life for myself Nd have always lived for others and lived their dreams through me. Idk what I'm expecting from posting this, IDC if you downvote this either, whether you like it or not there are several girls like me out there who have been abused and misused by other men in their life. Peace out
Hey y'all. Even some of you might have seen THIS news recently, the thing is the news channels are spoiling the student's name for the sake of publicity. My friend is studying in the same college (same year) of the boy who is in this unfortunate incident. Acc. to the people who study there, the news is in no way true at all, they don't have any kind of proof to support this title. how can a news channel say anythhing without proper evidence>? i dont know. for gods sake also imagine what the boy have to go through when he gets recovered from this trauma along with his physical strain. Get well soon.
also: Their college friends have asked to help him for his medical expenses through campaign in Ketto LINK. If you can atleast do a small amount that would be of Huge help.
Na athe mari oru student than, etho enaala seiya mudinchatha seiren.
You can ask anything to verify if this is genuine. i can do that

Hello, I am from Kolkata, WB. I was planning to visit TN in Dec-Jan. Would it be better to take a travel agent for the trip? If yes, can you give some suggestions of good travel agents who will allow me to make a curated plan and have reasonable rates?
Thank you in advance.

For me, diwali is the most celebrating festival in a year. Like all the good things comes together on a single day.. First thing is new dresses, in my childhood days I'm not even getting a new dress on birthday but on diwali definitely get one. And sweets different types of sweets home made and purchased for the festival its existing for longer days. Bursting crackers which makes the day more joyful. TV shows and big actors releasing big movies on diwali.... Which all makes its the best day on our state culturally... Closer to diwali only Thai Pongal near it, because it has 3 days holiday.. so diwali is the number one festival in tamil nadu?
Anyway Happy Diwali folks...
We have a lot of temples and different forms of worship. Just curious about - why do you believe in God? When did u get spiritual/ religious? Has it always been like this for you? If not, what changed?
Directed only towards theists.

Hi all. You all know the Oct 30th atrocities in several south states ( Not only Madurai), celebrating Guru Poojai. I'm from Chennai but parents are from South. These things happen in my native too. Well, I don't know much about him, but mostly everyone online tend to bash him, but the politicians honour the state of the person on that day. I get that politicians do such, for a vote bank. I know him only as caste leader and he had an acquaintance with Nethaji.
What are the things he did that make everyone hate him? whatever, pour your knowledge on this. Open to all kinds of comments.
In which areas were they similar and in which areas were they different?
What are your workplaces giving as Diwali incentive? I'll go first. 500 rupees worth Amazon gift voucher. Pichakaranga!!!!
Thuukam varala namma tamil naatla any real paranormal experience pannirukingala friends?
Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t feel the need to nor do I enjoy bursting crackers. Most kids these days talk about the pollution it causes and the health effects of it. So I ask you again, are we still bursting crackers in 2024 and how long will we continue to do so until we realise that the harms outweigh the benefits (absolutely zero other than entertainment or thrill).
Happy Diwali / Deepavali.
I see the prices of firecrackers have become so expensive these days. Why? You can hardly get a few boxes of sparkling sticks (கம்பி மத்தாப்பு) for 700 INR.
I wonder how poor people (or do they) afford to fire crackers.
My father has been admitted in ICU at a private hospital in madurai. He doesn't have insurance.
He has multi focal osteomyelitis and the hospital has done a decent job of making him recover from unconscious state to being conscious now (albeit not talking clearly). It's been 6 days since he has been admitted. So far they have done wound debridement (they were pushing for amputation but my dad strongly said no, so we complied). I'm not sure if I'm being paranoid but they look like they want to delay moving him from ICU to ward or discharging him. They meet us only for few minutes and throw all medical terms which we can't understand.
Now coming to bills, as it is ICU and they did all types of scans (MRI for different parts, random tests), surgery cost are piling up.
Also the pharmacy list is separate with lots of consumables which they keep giving for every few hours. We have no way of checking what anything is being used for. Pharmacy alone has crossed over 1.5 Lakhs.
They are refusing to give a proper itemized summary for current state. I kind of pressurized them to get a summary at this point and they gave a very basic, non-itemized bill. They can provide the full bill only during discharge it seems.
Are all private hospitals like this? The problem for us is we're not local here as well. It just became an unfortunate situation when dad visited a nearby place. So that adds more issues as we don't have proper place to stay and eat which is draining us as well. We need to get my dad as soon as possible to Chennai as we have more support there and also can go to a doctor my father has regularly met.
But the big worry is the hospital in Chennai is going to start from scratch again I guess with most tests. Without insurance, feel like we're screwed.
