Why can you still submit on common app for undergrad this late?

My friend already committed elsewhere but as she was scrolling down she noticed that there were some schools that didn't show rolling deadlines for Fall 2024. We say she could still apply to Syracuse in the Fall through RD. For the fun of it, she just put random stuff in and sent it in and it worked, common app said it went through. Why is that lmao? Does anyone have stories about submitting months late but making it in?

GW Elliott School of International Affairs vs Maxwell/s.i. Newhouse

hello! as the may 1 commitment deadline is approaching, i have found myself in need of consulting external opinions when choosing between these two schools! i have gone back and forth quite a bit, so i would greatly appreciate any advice đŸ«¶đŸ»!

at george washington university, i would be majoring in international affairs at the elliott school, and focused likely on eventually pursuing a masters at schools such as georgetown, then entering the world of foreign service!

at syracuse, i would be dually enrolled in the maxwell school of citizenship & public affairs and the s.i. newhouse school of public communications as an international relations and magazine, news, and journalism major. my hope would still be to pursue graduate school, then possibly combine both disciplines of international affairs and journalism to have a career as an international correspondent and such.. or possibly still work in dc for the government, an ngo, or whatever is most compatible!

while i recognize the benefits of both schools, i am still quite torn.

i am a bit worried about the culture at syracuse, as i don’t find the most enjoyment in greek life and would love the opportunity to be somewhere a bit more walkable (city wise, with activities). and, i know its clichĂ©, but i am from california and quite worried about how the weather will affect my productivity.. 😭! but, the professors, programs (especially newhouse), support system (advisors), courses, and opportunities seem absolutely incredible still!!

as for gwu, i have heard a few complaints about the administration and a bit of the bureaucracy that goes on, and i feel a little in the dark about what sort of support systems are offered (academically, advising, career support, help pursuing future education). but, i know the elliott school is absolutely incredible for international affairs, and i would love to be in dc. additionally, i am interested in their global bachelors program, which allows students to study abroad for 3 semesters in total (sophomore, junior, senior spring), which i feel would give me an unmatched global education!

thank you all for reading through this post up until this point :) i guess my final questions are:

for syracuse—is maxwell for undergraduate international relations valuable?! what are some of the opportunities available that seem unparalleled?! even though the school is isolated physically, are students still able to get involved in government sort of internships? are people in the ir field from syracuse? is syracuse respected by ir recruiters? is newhouse a big enough of a name weight to choose over gw?

for gwu—what are the professors, courses, academics like?! does the elliott name truly help get internships in dc?! what does the career support look like (applying to internships, jobs, grad school)?! how many people go on to graduate schools?!

i guess overall, i’m struggling to choose between syracuse and gwu because i feel syracuse fulfills my academic desires more, but gwu fulfills my overall life goals more, especially by allowing me to get directly into the field and travel, getting an education not as much in books and instead by the real world! (i do know that maxwell/newhouse has a sems ester program in dc though, so i would definitely do that when i go there.. so that opportunity still is there)

once again, i know both schools are great, so no bad energy! thanks!

Please Donate

FAFSA absolutely screwed me over and only gave me 9.5k even with tap and css profile. It seems like I can never get what I want in life, it's so frustrating. As part of a middle income family, we struggle the most with financial aid because we're not too poor and we make just enough to where FAFSA doesn't care.

If you can, please Donate money to my GoFundMe because I really want to afford Syracuse University! 😔

You should share the fundraiser with others

( I hope I don't look weird in the picture)

Question about Aid appeal, Class of 2028

Has anyone tried appealing their aid yet? I want to but i don't know if I should wait for the actual amount of aid or do it now even though its just an estimate.

Also they are making me pay about 30k per year, do you think its worth it? Its either this or city college, and im leaning into syracuse.

Apartment Rental Companies

Hi! I am looking for a decent apartment rental company. I have heard terrible things about University Hill Apartments, Clarendon Heights, and Syracuse Quality Living. If you've had a good experience with those, please let me know!

I'm looking for reviews of 502 University Apartment Homes, Aspen, Plaza Apartments and Paul Apartments. Most of the other apartments in the area are out of my price range (~$900 with one roommate, ~$1,200 if I live alone).

The last post about this was 8 months ago, so I am looking for updated information. Thank you in advance!

Help! Syracuse vs Case for Aerospace Engineering

Can anyone out there give input on this choice? I think Case has a better engineering program but the robust social life is better at Syracuse. Thanks in advance! Decision time is coming soon. posting for my son.

CRS grads here?

I am an international student, got accepted this fall with a 60% scholarship and an hourly work position (830$/month for the first year). Is this a good offer for VPA?

Also, what are the prospects of graduating from CRS? Is this program reputed in the job market?

Would love study/work advice, cheap housing options or anything.

TIA

Inquiring on a professor.

Has anyone had issues with Professor Pei? She teaches SWK-361. I’m just wondering because I don’t think I’m the only person.

Is there any chance I get into Newhouse?

Hi! Student from Seattle trying to see if I have any chance. I'm trying to apply to Newhouse next year on ED (I'm class of 25), and I hear that it's really selective. I have a 3.9 unweighted with 5 AP's (by the time senior year is over) and 2 honors classes. I have 50 volunteer hours so far and I haven't taken the SAT and ACT yet, but I will and hopefully will do well on them. I've looked at their website but I just wanted to get the opinions of people that actually go/went to Newhouse! Thanks!

Are most of y'all here on merit scholarships or just *comfortable, money wise*?

If my MySlice is correct, I'd be paying around 70k to go here. I'm trying to figure out in what world any college be worth paying that much.

RenĂ©e Crown Honors —> more merit aid?

Hey guys!

Basically this morning I got an email saying I was accepted into the RenĂ©e Crown Honors Program YAYY! I would love to attend SU but the thing is they gave me 0 aid and I def can’t afford 80k COA per year (as per MySlice estimate) :( Is there any way to appeal merit scholarships/are there any Honors Program specific scholarships that I could get from SU?

Thanks! :)

Scheduling personal interviews

Does anyone know when admissions starts taking appointments for personal virtual interviews? The website says interviews begin in July but I've read that slots fill up fast, so I was wondering when their scheduling calendar goes back online.

Syracuse HEOP Financial Aid

I received my estimate from Syracuse; I know I got the full Pell grant (7.3k) but my TAP is only 1.8k. Is this concerning and will it impact the amount covered by Syracuse? My estimated pay is 10k from the NPC, but my estimate says I should expect to almost receive everything but I find it odd that TAP only gave me 1.8k. I would appreciate the help. Thank you!!
