This is a place for like minded individuals to discuss grassroots activism for attempting to effectively legalize suicide for adults.
Welcome! YSK violent hospitalization increases suicide.
Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31162700
Violent hospitalization is violating your body & humiliating you as a "mental patient"- it's essentially a punishment for talking about suicide.
This sub is for discussing changing these laws, eg laws allowing adults (who have not broken any laws) to be locked up and forced and coerced to stay in hospitals against their expressed desires.
The ability for certain hospital employees and psychiatric and psychological professionals to forcibly keep adults inside psychiatric wards effectively makes suicide illegal.
This is a place for like minded individuals to discuss grassroots activism opposing this violence. And a place to discuss whether suicide should be legal for adults.
Free speech:
Due to civil commitment laws (and the legality of temporary psychiatric holds) voicing the intention of engaging in suicide is effectively illegal.
The result is people are taught to be silent. The state's "help" is not actually suicidal people improve their living conditions- their help is violently teaching people to be silent and not talk about suicide.
Imprisonment for talking about suicide.
Adults are effectively imprisoned in hospitals for attempting to engage in suicide and/or for discussing intention of engaging in suicide.
This sub is anti-suicide.
Suicide should not be encouraged. It should be discouraged. However, force and coercion do not help. They just give the illusion of help. Suicidal people need real help (eg better living conditions and sometimes therapy) instead of simply being locked in a cage for a few days then thrown to the street.
Stop suicide through kindness.
It will be good if all humans can experience happiness on Earth and desire to stay on Earth and if no adult wants to engage in suicide. Peaceful persuasion and kindness should be used to accomplish this, not coercion and force.
To be involved
Go to: http://votesmart.org/ to find your elected official.
Next, send all your law making representatives e-mails, phone call or letters telling them that you think that psychiatric holds and civil commitment should be illegal to use on adults.

I thought it was illegal to condone or support suicide?
I went through it a few years ago and it just broke me. It was inhumane and it didn't help me at all. I don't know how it's the experience for everyone else but it was so traumatizing for me, I can't let it go.
I wanna learn more about it and see what experts have to say on the matter. Can you help me? Maybe with articles or ngos that deal with it? Is there any proof that it's harmful to patients' overall mental health?
I am so so thankful if anyway can help. It's a subject very close to my heart because it brings me pain almost daily.
Please, be kind with the answers. <3
What are you going to do if someone does it? Put the dead body in jail?

Read the book Suicide Prohibition by psychiatrist Thomas Szasz. We should only use persuasion, reason, and kindness to reduce suicides. Psychiatric coercion should be outlawed.
