Staged Readings — "Admissions"

On Friday, November 1, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. A Classic Theatre presents Admissions, a play by Josh Harmon, performed as a staged reading.

Staged Readings

A Classic Theatre presents four staged readings during the 2024/25 season. Each performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living, 1795 Old Moultrie Road in St. Augustine.

Considered by some to be the "purest form of theatre," staged readings don't have sets, props, or light cues, and few or no costumes. The actors perform using a script and necessary stage directions are read to help the audience understand what is happening. The actors rehearse each program, focusing on the script and their delivery to bring the playwright's work to life for the audience.

Admissions

This three-act play offers insight and satire about modern America: expectations, privilege, power, hypocrisy, and the pull between parent and child.

Admission: $12.00 per person online; tickets can be purchased here.

When: Friday, November 1, 2024, at 7:30 p.m.

Where: The Center for Spiritual Living, 1795 Old Moultrie Road, St. Augustine, Florida 32084

Last minute pumpkins?

Yes I waited until Halloween to get pumpkins but after I saw 2 ladies fighting in Publix for the last pumpkins available last night, I need a hookup.

Any suggestions of where might still have pumpkins for carving?

Best neighborhoods near the marina munch?

My kid is going to school in that area but I stayed in an Airbnb nearby and it was kind of sketchy. Anything good/safe 10-15mins from this location? Thank you

Christmas in St. Augustine

Hey everyone!

My family is coming into Jacksonville for Christmas, and we’re planning a day trip to St. Augustine to check out the holiday lights downtown (someone mentioned they’re amazing!). Has anyone been recently? Are the lights worth it?

Also, we’re looking for a spot to eat that can handle a big group—10 adults and 6 kids. We’d love to go somewhere local, not a chain restaurant, and ideally a place with a festive atmosphere to make it special. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for the help!

New Year’s Week Questions

Hi all! My husband and I are planning a trip to Saint Augustine from 12/30- 1/3. We visit several times per year around the Butler Beach area and have never stayed downtown. We will be traveling with our two kids ages 7 and 3 (our son will be 4 on 12/31). We have booked a place downtown with parking included but we are having second thoughts and wondering if perhaps we should have booked at the beach. I have a couple of questions, hopefully someone can assist:

  1. will it be possible to view the pier fireworks from anywhere downtown on NYE?

  2. I’ve heard traffic is terrible, however, we would probably be looking at leaving the downtown area in the mornings for beach time/ activities for the kids and returning in the afternoon. Would traffic already be bad around 2 or 3pm heading downtown?

  3. if we did decide to stay on the beach instead of in town, we would be looking to see the lights one night during our trip. How crazy would it be driving downtown and trying to find parking on an evening like 12/30 or 1/2? We would probably head downtown around 4pm.

  4. Any recommendations for great places to watch football on January 1? Must be kid friendly.

Thanks so much!

Where are some good music venues for a local 6 piece band to book?

I play with some notable musicians locally and we're trying to find another spot where we could gig once a month or so. Genre is varied but orbits the planets of Rock and Country. There are some obvious spots (Prohibition Kitchen comes to mind) on George St but I'd imagine parking/unloading would be a nightmare and the stage would be tight with the 6 of us

Can anyone recommend some local venues that have a big enough stage to handle a group like ours and showcases local musicians?

Admins: Can we ban the “plan my trip for me” questions?

I appreciate that people are looking for advice, but it would be awesome if they did the legwork first and presented the community with “is it better to visit the fort in the day or the night” questions instead of the lazy “coming to town for a wedding, what should we do?” questions.

Any chance we can update the guidelines and remove the lazy “plan my trip” questions?

Do they still do the monthly event when shops stay open late?

I moved to Tampa and haven't been back in awhile. I imagine they quit doing it after Covid, but what was the monthly event when shops on St. George would stay open late? Either "Last Saturday" or "Third Friday" or something like that.

Christmas in St. Augustine…?

My mom and I were searching for a place to spend Christmas this year. I've never been to St. Augustine, but one article said it's really cute/cool at Christmas time. A) is that true? B) are there enough things to do to stay multiple days? C) if so, how many days would be good? Thank you!!

About the Walmart incident......

First of all, are there any Walmart employees around who can chime in? I wonder, if there are, or were, faulty switches or mechanisms, that release the locking door from the inside............and what measures are available/necessary to override a faulty system? As far as that goes, what about unconvential methods to break the deal on the locks? Could a large caliber bullet, or two, break the lock? Really, I'm just asking what she could have done to get herself out?

Anyone want to see Nitzer Ebb Friday, Nov 1?

They're playing at the Abbey in Orlando.

I don't use any substances besides sugar-free Red Bull, so I can drive.

I can take 3-4 other people.

The company would be appreciated on the road, but we don't have to hang out there. ☺️

What to with kids in St Augustine

Hi! I’m travelling to south Florida with my family in December and someone mentioned we should make a stop on St Augustine. Wondering if it’s a good place to stop with 2 kids aged 9 and 4, and what to do/where to stay (I was thinking by beach). Thank you!
