Can someone help with a product pricing question?

Kinda a dumb question I think I already know the answer to but let's say I sell 5 tshirts every day for one year straight at $32 including shipping.

My total gross weekly sales = $1120

My total weekly expenses = $566 (shopify fees and printify expenses)

My profit would = $554

I would be losing money because my expenses exceed my profit. Am I right about this? What amount would I need to price my shirts to make my business sustainable?

Do you use any AI tool/chatbot that lets users interact with your website?

This is not a promotion post. Just curious. Are you using an AI tool that integrates with your website, allowing users to interact via chat to perform tasks, search data, and navigate your app? If so, how well does it work for you, and what challenges have you faced?

10k startup idea to sell to hispanic or any grocery stores?

So I'm currently in the process of parting ways with my current job in which I was a sales representative selling cookware to small chain hispanic grocery stores/ mom and pop stores. I've been in this line of business for many years now and have made many connections.

I would like to begin wholesaling on a miniature scale due to my lack of funds. I just don't know what to sell. it would have to be something with a fast turnover rate and decently profitable but not too expensive because I have to continue paying bills out of the 10k that I have saved up.

I know I should ideally have more funds and I am in the process of looking for a new job in order to save up more money and build up my risk tolerance, but I want to use the time between now and then to try something out and see if it kicks off. I have a customer base and sales skills, just don't have a product.

I was thinking Piñata's but I think that would require more money upfront and I don't think it's something that sells quickly. Maybe it's something to hold off on until further down the line when I'm more established.

I also thought about coffee beans but there are a lot of regulations around consumables and I'd rather not get into that space unless I know it's going to be profitable. From what I've read online, though, coffee isn't very profitable. I'm going to do more research, though.

Also, I have access to a warehouse where I can receive and store pallets and they regularly get shipments from Miami and Houston so if there is anything that needs to be shipped in from those areas, I can make it happen fairly easily.

If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it and sorry if it seems like my writing is all over the place, I have a lot on my mind right now.

What lead generation strategies have been the most effective for you in B2B SaaS?

Basically, question. What are the most effective and practical lead generation methods for B2B SaaS companies selling to mid-market and enterprise clients?

Like, are there any new or emerging trends that I need to know about? We’re focusing on marketing automation, so insights from sales reps, AEs, and SDRs in similar industries would be especially valuable.

If you’ve found something that works well for you, I’d love to hear about it.

Filing taxes: no net proceeds, and didn’t pay myself. File myself or CPA?

So I have a consulting business and essentially all expenses went to office rent, utilities, computer software (grammarly), and meeting expenses. I did not pay myself at all.

Do I just use excel1040 or freetaxUSA and file a schedule C?

Total money in and out was $5k for the year of 2024.

If a CPA is highly recommended I’ll go by way of that. Just don’t want to spend the money if it’s stupid easy straightforward since the business income is just all loss.

Buying a business?

I've been looking for the longest time to buy an existing business. Looking at physical - dry cleaners, bagel store, etc - but man it's hard to find.

Where are good (non-conventional) places to find people who want to sell? I have come across a few businesses, but they were sold or in contract by the time I found out.

Thanks.

Canadian Tariffs And The De Minimis Rule

We are in the US. Two of our biggest suppliers are in Canada. About 80% of the products could come in under the $800.00 threshold. Is there any reason why the De Minimis Rule should not apply to shipments coming in from Canada?

Verizon’s OneTalk - other options?

We’ve been using onetalk for a month now and it has been AWFUL! Dropped calls, won’t let you answer calls, missed calls not showing up on app so you can’t call back. It has been the worst experience.

Wondering if there is any other options as we have a business number that we purchased and would like to just switch providers as Verizon’s system is horrendous.

How do I price properly?

I create accessories using metals and beads. I want to open up my business one day, but I dont know how to price things. Others find 100php for a bracelet overpriced, and others find it too cheap. The materials are sometimes quite expensive to buy, especially when finding good quality wires that dont corrode easily.

May I ask for some complements and words of supporting

Sorry for a weird suggestion. I'm 17 who started my own business and it's been 1 month now. I am close to $2000. I know it's not much but I dont have many people that I can tell this about. I recently got into a fight with my dad for having poor decision making about this business. I really just wanted a complement.

It was a tough year, I tried to make it through, but I took a good beating.

I couldn’t focus on my job because of all the other salty stuff in my life. My wife and I went through a rough divorce she took almost everything with her. It was really painful and destroyed me emotionally. And then, I lost my job.

I literally have nothing left, no money, no job, no house. I spent a few months with my parents, and my dad talked me out of the depression. Now, I’m finally ready to roll.

I used to work as a design lead. I did logos, brand identity, and designed content for social media until the divorce. Now, I’m doing the same thing again, but this time for myself. I’ve decided to freelance until I land a good job, or maybe just stick with this if things take off.

The deal wasn’t big, just $500, but at least I won’t be eating out of my dad’s pocket anymore. I’m so happy and proud of myself. I’m designing for the barber who’s been cutting my hair for the past 16 years. This is where I’m gonnas start to reclaim my happiness.

I won’t lie, I’m not a great salesperson. What can I do to get things rolling? My portfolio is solid, but where do I start? I’ve already begun working on my website. I have the experience and skill as a designer, but how best can i sell my self.

For Those Who Made It, How Did You Escape the Daily (or 7 day a week) Grind?

I have posted recently on this sub about the long term vision of building systems, breaking the hustle cycle and actually relax a bit, rather than burying yourself entirely in your business thinking just about the money. That is certainly what a lot of us intended when we started our businesses. Since making those realisations (I don't need to be a millionaire and I don't need to grind all my life, I just want to be financially stable and enjoy the fruits of my own business), as well as posting those thoughts on here, it has actually hit me a lot. I suddenly feel exhausted and want to get to that stage sooner rather than later. I am sure every business is different and we all have different capacities and the things that exhaust us. Having said that, based on the response of the earlier posts, it seems a lot of you guys feel the same as me. Can those that have already established their businesses beyond the grind enlighten us on what you did to get there?

Should I sell my company to my new entity?

I have been running a small company for 15 years and it’s done rather well with a few bad patches during Covid, but my client list is absolutely stellar (lots of FAANG, global orgs and premium automotive). However I recently joined a new company that I’ve had to spend all my time on, at the expense of my old company (it’s pretty almost dormant at this stage with only 2 remaining, low impact clients). The new company is brand new with no history, have offered me an equal share split, are paying me more than I’ve ever earned and is growing at a rapid pace. I’ve agreed to commit to them 100%, so should I sell my old company to the new one to bring over the existing client and past reputation or should I just close it down and call it a day? I will be seeking advice from my current accounting and legal firms but I want to hear other ideas about my past work history, reputation and the fact I’m giving up on a company I spent 15 years running that I’m a little sad to see go.

Sport matchmaking app?

Hey everyone , I enjoy sports but feel I don't always have friends to play with and tired of same old locations in my town. What do you guys think of an app that matches you with potential players in your chosen sport and gives you a location to play in.. one winner one loser and some sort of exchange between them to award the winner. Users could also create their own sessions on a given date and users could join, maybe even training sessions for those who want to improve their skill.

Would you pay for this app? If so, how much? I really think it would be cool

Niche Garden Nursery Inquiry 🌻

Hi there! I'm looking to start a niche Brugmansia, Angels Trumpet, Nursery online, primarily. Needing some advice and intel from you amazing Redditers! 🪴

I understand that I need to attain a Nursery Stock License along with the Business License to sell in California. I see people selling on Etsy, Ebay and Facebook.

I am a one plant-person show! I have a decent sized location and Greenhouse for my Parent Plants and a larger Greenhouse for my Propagated ones, and everything I need in order to maintain proper healthy Brugmansia (Angel Trumpet) plants with about 45 ish varieties, and growing! Lol. Can you say that I am in love 🥰 much?

Other sellers generally stick to about 5-10 or less variety, but also sell other items. Which is also what makes this niche. This is my primarily focus.

Inquiries:

  • What type of software/ documentation and billing system works best for a garden focus - one person show? And also inexpensive but logical. (Possibility to sell other items such as ornaments and cute little chachki later on.)

  • How do you know what to price things for?

I'm having a hard time placing price points because I want to be competitive but I also want to be successful. I'd like to avoid underbidding my products and also DEFINITELY don't want to price above what others are selling. I do understand that these plants take up space, use fertilizer/water, pots, time, and all that wonderful jazz - which circles me back to the logical price pointing and calculations. ---> Do people reach out to Wholesale places and get a price list, and pretty much double / triple what they cost? General rule of thumb?

  • Being that these plants are considered 'toxic', much like an Oleander shrub, I know I must disclose this for liability purposes, and also because people should be aware of what they purchase. However, IF I merely disclose this and also have some type of "Buyer Please Research", is that good enough to remove liability from me?

I see people say, 'Open an LLC to "remove" liability.", but I just want to know what others have done or may kindly suggest as I would like to keep prices down, for everyone, myself included. Also, CA charges a lot more for a things than other States. "Every LLC that is doing business or organized in California must pay an annual tax of $800." Youch. Not happy about that. Lol. I'd like to pass on that for now. This business is out of my home and will be a small startup until I see the traction and can properly evaluate the future needs.

Any advice or input is welcome about the business side of things.

Thank you! 💜

Furniture shop owners here? It's hard to win returning customers

I run a shop for vintage furniture and antiques. Some in original condition, slightly refurbished or restored.

I also sell high-quality 2nd hand catering furniture, sanded and repainted.

My experience for 3 years:

It's bloody hard. Without Google Ads, too little sales. But even with Google Ads there are hard fluctuations. Every month is a new battle.

How do you survive? Have you found a good way to get customers to come back?

Starting a Jewelry Business

Hi Reddit, I'm thinking of starting a jewelry business selling homemade crystal bracelets to start. Does anyone know where to source for legit crystal suppliers? I'm based in Singapore so there's a lack of natural resources to tap into here. I know that there are some wholesalers/mines in countries such as India, China, and Thailand to name a few. But I guess, the problem I'm facing is to know if they are real or fake since there are many fake suppliers out there. Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to help!

Sales not growing and can't find distributors

My father owns a small high-end design lighting company in Italy (similar to Flos and Artemide for products and price range).

In recent years, the company has struggled to maintain its revenue, as the industry is highly competitive. The revenue range is between 1,2 million and 1,5 million EUR per year, but unfortunately we are struggling to break even due to high costs.

This year, I offered to help him expand into new markets and increase sales in regions where we are not yet selling. Usually, small lighting companies rely on exclusive distributors in countries where direct sales are challenging due to necessary certifications (such as UL in USA), time zone differences, and geographical distance.

Finding distributors who also handle certifications has proven more difficult than expected. So far, I have managed to find potential distributors only in Southeast Asia (better than nothing of course)

However, the most challenging market to find a lighting distributor for has been the United States.

Obviously, since our company is small and our brand is not very "strong" internationally, very few would take on the role of distributor for a little-known brand.

So... do you know any distributors that specialize in high-end decorative lighting in the United States that might be interested in niche brands like ours? Or maybe could you suggest ways to make our brand more appealing to potential distributors/retailers?

Thank you.

Which of these two books would help me grow my business?

The personal MBA: Master the art of business by josh Kaufman

Or

Your next five moves: master the art of business strategy by Patrick bet david

My main challenge right now is diversifying income sources and time management to be able to scale up my business without really raising the prices a lot. I own a service based business.

I'm leaning more towards the second book but I'm open to any other recommendations🙏

Interchange Plus vs. Flat Rate credit card processing?

So I'm looking for a new credit card processor/POS and am wondering if overall the flat rate processing is more suitable for small businesses or if interchange is technically better.

I'm looking at two options essentially:

  • The standard 2.6% flat fee + 10c per transaction
  • Interchange + 0.35% + 10c per transaction + $14.95 monthly fee

Some business info:

  • Only about $15k in card sales per month
  • Average swipe is maybe $100-$200
  • Highest swipe is usually around $1500

Has anyone had experience with both options and seen which one is better for their company?

It’s started well and I’m going to hire in the next few months! I’m hoping to move from self employed to company and would appreciate any tips?

What do you pay for payment processing?

Trying to get a feel for what people pay for payment processing. Seems like rates are really all over the place, with an average somewhere between 2-3% plus a swipe fee? What processor do you use and how much do you pay?

SBA 7a Equity Injection Sources

I’ve tried searching but am seeing some conflicting information about possible sources to secure the 10-15% required for an SBA 7a loan.

My wife and I are looking to secure an SBA loan but don’t have the cash required for the equity injection that will be needed.

Are HELOC loans allowed to provide the equity injection?

We have a sizable amount in 401k’s. I know there is the route of ROBS (existing business is a c-corp), but if it came down to it, would there be any issue pulling some from our 401k (understanding the tax implications of pulling early)?

Lastly, my wife’s parents have funds available to us, but I’m not sure how best to receive said funds. I read that only $5,000 can be “gifted” for equity injections? Can they loan us the money another way? I also read that we could give them equity for these funds and then buy them out at a later time. Any opinions on the best route?

Thanks for any insights! I’ll spare the details unless needed, but you can assume every other aspect of this is an ideal SBA lending opportunity (imo). I just keep reading how strict lenders are on where this equity injection can come from (i.e. no “borrowed” money) so I’m curious on what options are possible.

How do small business owners offer 401ks? I am struggling here.

I run a power washing business with 13 employees, and I've been thinking about setting up a 401k for my team. I feel like it'd be nice perk and maybe even help me keep people around longer. But between the fees and figuring out how it connects to payroll, I don't even know where to start.

How are other small business owners making this work?

What Do You Need from a Competitor Analysis Tool?

Hi everyone,

I'm gathering insights from small business owners about managing competitive intelligence. When you're evaluating or using tools to monitor your competitors, what features and data points do you find most valuable? I'm particularly curious about:

• Which competitor metrics or insights help you make strategic decisions?

• How do you prefer to access and visualize competitor data (dashboards, graphs, reports, etc.)?

• Are there any specific integrations or real-time updates that would make a tool more useful in your day-to-day operations?

• What challenges have you faced with existing competitor analysis methods or tools?

Your feedback will really help in understanding the needs unique to small businesses when it comes to staying ahead of the competition. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
