Slowcore, a sub-genre of alternative rock and post-rock, features bleak lyrics backed by minimalist arrangements at extremely slow speeds. Guitars are normally clean and undistorted but often feature heavy use of reverb. A typical Slowcore setting includes guitar(s), bass, drums, and less commonly piano.
Slowcore was born from an anti-grunge movement in the early 90's in which bands would stray from the popular, fast and heavily distorted sound that grunge presented. One of the pioneering Slowcore bands, Low, would play at lower volumes in front of noisy crowds as opposed to the common rock practice of turning the volume up.
The slower side of Space-Rock (/r/SpaceRock) can be grouped in with Slowcore. The band Duster is a good starting point for the Space-Rock/Slowcore border exploration.
Slowcore can be sometimes confused with the slower side of /r/shoegaze, originally a British post-rock genre. The major difference between the two genres (besides the BPM) is the significant use of guitar effects in Shoegaze. This creates a unique soundscape, while the majority of Slowcore artists refrain from using overwhelming effects.
Slowcore is also known as "Sadcore", and is sometimes spelled "Slo-core".

i like to make music in my room casually in my free time, and while i started off making bedroom pop stuff, i want to try a variety of different alternative genres that i appreciate and am inspired by, especially the likes of slowcore and shoegaze. while i think the song below shows inspirations from the genre, it doesn’t quite fit in with what is traditionally considered “slowcore”. what stylistic things could i implement to give more of that feel?
New one from this Brighton based down just came out
Hey everyone! I wanted to leave a snippet of my first ever slowcore/indie folk EP for my music project "photosynthesize." I hope you guys like it, and I would love constructive criticism!
My inspirations include: Elliot Smith, Alex G, Jon Brion's "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind" soundtrack, and, of course, sign crushes motorist and Duster.
I hope you guys enjoy!
Here's an underrated Duster-informed slowcore album for you netsurfers
Circumambulation got repressed last year and still available on Discogs. Wish they made another record though.

I could actually watch their videos on repeat just makes me feel like a kid in the 90's / early 2000's again
I love coming to this sub for new music by all of you :) keep it up!
At the same time I wonder what are those really influential bands on the genre? I mean I know “katy song”(red house painters), “loss leader”(codein), “inside out”(duster), surely mazzy star is to be named in this regard. but for example I was visiting a black metal concert with a lot of doom elements and these sounded to me like a more intensified track from codein, where the music was so slow it just dragged you around, beautiful 😍. Made me wonder if there might even be some connection between those genres.
Don’t get me wrong, I can google that stuff just fine ;) I wanna hear from you though!
EDIT: since quiet a few people made me aware that i did not mention Low, i want to make it clear: i just forgot. Low obviously needs a mention haha!
i love listening to slowcore and find comfort in it so here is sumthin i made.

I trapped on a deeply underground slowcore band that covered Erik Satie's "Gymnopedie". But I've lost it. I've already tried to look for it via bandcamp, spotify or google but it's apparently so underground that these services don't find it. Can you help me out?
Hi, I’m Cypher. 👋
“i thought we were okay?” is a song about being unexpectedly left by your partner after you thought your relationship was in good standing
“i hope my absence gives you the peace my love couldn’t” is a song that conveys the feeling of wishing the best for your lover when your no longer apart of their life, even if it hurts
“the way life used to feel” is the linked song. It’s about missing childhood and the care free life style that came with it, this one is one of my personal favorites
“escape” is about the degenerate way people act and is mostly about the idea that lust destroys our perception of what love really is
I just discovered this genre the other day, and I rlly like the music, with its 80s-90s slow synth vibes. I would like band and album recs for music without vocals. While i enjoy the vocals, i want to listen to it while studying and working
its a very personal and emotive song, i hope whoever taps on it enjoys, leave a comment if you like it 🖤
titled: "i see it in your eyes. you're not happy" , here are the lyrics in the clip:
"it's my last day here...is anybody out there? anybody?" a girl asked into the void, a pool of nobodies and somebodies who are all nobody to each other.
one boy, and one boy only answers. a simple "hey?" a gentle smile, painted the girls lips. it's all it took for it to all be okay. but she didn't know it quite yet, but he did, he saw what she couldn't see. though all she wanted was to be heard, she was given more than what she believed she deserved.
