Slowcore, a sub-genre of alternative rock and post-rock, features bleak lyrics backed by minimalist arrangements at extremely slow speeds. Guitars are normally clean and undistorted but often feature heavy use of reverb. A typical Slowcore setting includes guitar(s), bass, drums, and less commonly piano.
Slowcore was born from an anti-grunge movement in the early 90's in which bands would stray from the popular, fast and heavily distorted sound that grunge presented. One of the pioneering Slowcore bands, Low, would play at lower volumes in front of noisy crowds as opposed to the common rock practice of turning the volume up.
The slower side of Space-Rock (/r/SpaceRock) can be grouped in with Slowcore. The band Duster is a good starting point for the Space-Rock/Slowcore border exploration.
Slowcore can be sometimes confused with the slower side of /r/shoegaze, originally a British post-rock genre. The major difference between the two genres (besides the BPM) is the significant use of guitar effects in Shoegaze. This creates a unique soundscape, while the majority of Slowcore artists refrain from using overwhelming effects.
Slowcore is also known as "Sadcore", and is sometimes spelled "Slo-core".

My bands new album, RIYL: Songs: Ohia, Neil Young, Low, Silver Jews
I would call us slowcore but there are definitely other influences like 90s alt rock, shoegaze, country, etc. Hope you enjoy!
Hey all, I made a lil EP and would love to know what y鈥檃ll think. I鈥檝e got a few collaborations coming out soon which I鈥檓 real excited about too :))
light them up at the beach beside me, take a long drag of your cigarettes and watch the water rush forward as the background darkens and the moon glows, reflections over the ocean. with headphones in, not a soul in sight. enjoy, leave a comment馃枻
Any recommendations for bands/artists with a similar sound? Doesn't have to be slowcore, just something with similar guitar playing preferably, and a similar touch of folk rock/alt-country. I already know and love Sun Kil Moon, and Marks solo project aswell. The closest I can think of is Songs: Ohia, which I also love, but it doesn't really scratch the particular itch I feel RHP does. Any input is appreciated, cheers!
Edit: For reference, a few of my current favourite songs :)
I tried to make some songs that sound like Stratosphere - Duster!!!
i find that lo-fi warmth very pleasent to listen to, so i wanted to learn how to record like that myself!!!
So i researched and got ahold of similar equipment and made these!

i released a new song on the lonely ghost records Halloween split yesterday, not exactly slowcore but i was super inspired by horse jumper of love and teethe when i did this so i thought i鈥檇 share :)
Mine is the speed
Maybe more adjacent to shoegaze or post-metal at points, but I figured some of y'all might enjoy it!
Nj drummer looking for slowcore band with some ambient mixed in.
This song is crazy good kind of reminds me a bit of losers monologue or manifesto by Liam Mccay (even though I know some on here arnt huge fans of him). I found this on Instagram it was advertised to me or maybe I heard it through a reel or something. Give it a good listen,I鈥檓 not sure if it鈥檚 slowcore but it鈥檚 pretty great
this one is about the loss of my cat and some of the places i love in my hometown
I never share this solo project anywhere and don鈥檛 know anyone into this genre where I live. Thought maybe some of you might like it. Peace.
More or less the title, I love that song but for whatever reason nothing else on that album hits quite the same
