Hello everyone,
I hope someone can help me here and give me a hint on how to solve this problem.
We patch our servers with the Suse Manager. Recently, however, we have been experiencing more and more problems with individual servers.
There are always file conflicts, which causes the task in Suse Manager to fail and we have to patch the servers manually.
Suse Manager Version: 4.3.13
Server OS: SLES 15 SP4
Here is an example of the error message:

I have installed a SUSE RMT on a SLES15SP4 and I have enabled many products and repos and they sync completely without issues except for the SUSE Manager clients tools for Debian and Ubuntu I keep getting this error :
W, [2024-09-04T17:09:40.139638 #13727] WARN -- : The following errors occurred while mirroring: W, [2024-09-04T17:09:40.139981 #13727] WARN -- : Repository 'Ubuntu-20.04-SUSE-Manager-Tools' (4485): Error while mirroring metadata: https://updates.suse.com/SUSE/Updates/Ubuntu/20.04-CLIENT-TOOLS/x86_64/update/repodata/repomd.xml - request failed with HTTP status code 404, return code 'ok'. I keep getting this error for Debian 12 and Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04, how can I fix this ?
Also why I can’t find 24.04 ?
I have been using arch linux from two years and I have previously used distros like kali linux, ubuntu and debian. I came across a job(linux support engineer) which requires me to have experience with SUSE.
Now most of the distributions I have used are pretty similar except the package manager. So if I were to use SUSE for a few months to get familiar with it what should I practice in it?
What skills I am expected to have when and what should I learn?
I am also open to any other advises :)
Can someone explain to me how much storage is required for an RMT. I saw on the documentation that it’s typically 1.5 the size of all enabled repositories. So if my SUSE manager is to be sized 1TB does that mean that I need a SUSE manager with a 1TB + an RMT with a 1,5TB ? Can someone clarify why x1,5 and how I can size them SUSE manager and RMT ? Thanks
I want to test drive SLED 15 SP6 Beta but found out it needs a special separate activation code.
How can I obtain one?
I did send an email to beta-programs@suse.com but didn’t get any response yet.
Thanks in advance.
Hello everyone,
I recently graduated with a master's degree and landed a Developer position at SUSE Lab. I'm wondering about the future prospects of both the company and this job. I've heard that the company's stock has been delisted, which makes me feel uncertain about its future growth. Can anyone provide some advice or insights regarding this job opportunity?
i am not sure of were to ask that is why i am asking here as this says this is the offical suse subreddit but me and a couple of friends have prepared a meetup on open source tech and we were wondering if suse could back us ? (do apologize for asking here but i did not know where do ask and do not have a bussiness email to contact the sales team )
I have a Linux VM on GCP, running SLES version 11 SP4.
I would like to upgrade it to SLES version 15.
I found this procedure, but it mentions that I have to be running either SLE 12 SP4 or SLE 12 SP5.
https://www.suse.com/c/upgrading-suse-linux-enterprise-in-the-public-cloud/
So, I guess I could follow this guide, but I still need to somehow upgrade my VM to SLE 12 SP4 or SLE 12 SP5.
How do I do that in GCP (I am a total noob in GCP) ?
Any help would be appreciated.
I have submitted one session about reproducible builds with open-build-service (OBS).

Hello,
I am looking for backup ideas/suggestions specific to SUSE Tumbleweed. I know that there are utilities that one can use to clone the whole system. But most of my important personal documents are backed up in the cloud.
So I am wondering if there are lightweight tools that can allow me to get up to speed quickly on a fresh install?
For example, something along the lines of keeping a list of all the installed packages on the system and using a script to automate installing it on a new system?
Thank you for your time.

I can run an upgrade of SUSE Linux from a specific Repository with the below command.
zypper upgrade -t Package -r SLES12SP5_updates_20240129
Which ends with the Message "There are some running programs that might use files deleted by recent upgrade. You may wish to check and restart some of them. Run 'zypper ps -s' to list these programs."
If I check in the system the Latest install package is not showing up.
What I have to do to activate the new update so that it should be visible?
Hi,
we are required to have "certified" people on staff, so I gotta take the trainings (and the exams, eventually).
To my horror, I found that it's only videos.
Aren't there any PDFs or books I can read through?

Can I ask a stupid question, does SLES have a patch release date? Like how Microsoft releases patches on Patch Tuesday? Or is it just when they come available.
I've set up Suse Linux 15 SP4 on my virtual machine, but after rebooting, the text is not appearing in any application installation wizard, and there's also no text displaying on xrdp login wizard. This is a new issue for me, and I need assistance from someone who can help troubleshoot and resolve it.

I've taken over a SAP system running on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3, using a pay-as-you-go license. Due to our internal security policies, the system operates in an isolated network without internet access for the servers. I'm exploring options to upgrade SLES to SP5 without relying on SUSE Manager. I came across the idea of an offline upgrade, but I'm unsure about its feasibility, especially in a cloud environment. If this is a viable solution, I'm not sure which ISO image to use and how to obtain it. Can you provide guidance on this?
Thinking of using Terraform to handle my SLES servers on Azure. The idea is to redeploy the VM with the newest OS image, keeping data disks and apps intact. Instead of just patching the server, I'd be swapping out the OS disk. Anyone else doing this? Got some concerns, but want to hear if others have tried it.
Upgrade Suse Linux patch with command line
Able to execute patch upgrade from .tar file using repository via ansible with zypper but not able to see the patch in installed patches Using command as zypper update -repo $(reponame)
Do we need to use any command as merge/install etc after this
Whenever I run this command I face the following issue:
helm install uyuni-proxy oci://registry.suse.com/suse/manager/4.3/proxy \
> -f config.yaml -f httpd.yaml -f ssh.yaml -f custom-values.yaml
WARNING: Kubernetes configuration file is group-readable. This is insecure. Location: /root/.kube/config
WARNING: Kubernetes configuration file is world-readable. This is insecure. Location: /root/.kube/config
Error: failed to download "oci://registry.suse.com/suse/manager/4.3/proxy" (hint: running `helm repo update` may help)
Running helm repo update does not help.
Does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks
Does it mean that all sp3 vms will need to be recreated and apps redeployed or there is a path via sp4? Has anyone actually applied these changes?
Hi all,
I was setting up Harvester to evaluate it for use at my company. We're current Rancher users. I found that during the install, at the point it verifies network, a DNS record is created for rancher.ourdomain.com in our AD DNS. This really throws me off since I'm never prompted for any Rancher set up (I know it's using RKE2 ultimately to run this, but still). We're already using that DNS record for our production Rancher setup. Yes, this is an oversight we're allowing DNS entries to be created anonymously but it's still concerning to me why it's making this DNS record itself. If we continue with the product, we'd likely have 2 or 3 environments/clusters. Possibly more for other geo-locations.
I can't find this requirement in the documentation, or anything in documentation saying that this is normal behavior. The hostname and cluster name I'm entering don't even have 'rancher' in the name at all. I looked at using a configuration file (https://docs.harvesterhci.io/v1.1/install/harvester-configuration/) but I don't see anything about this in there, either.
Is there a way I can prevent this, or change the dns record it initially makes?
Hi,
I just installed Suse SLES 15 and apparently I can't sudo. I read I had to log in as root and install sudo, but even that seems not to be possible. Using visudo gives me the same result "command not found".
zypper install sudo => no provider of 'sudo' found. nothing to do
How can I solve this ?
Thank you very much,
Linux Systems Admin...we had all our elder admins cycle out...and I'm currently tasked with RAPIDLY reviewing and fixing our Linux licensing. From what I can tell we have the appropriate licenses, but none of them are applied properly. We're running SLES VMs in VMWare/vSphere. How do I go about getting these licensed properly? I think I need to register the ESXi hosts in my cluster, but have no idea how. I haven't had good luck finding info on this.
Hello!
I’ve downloaded and installed (trial) SUSE 15.5 yesterday and I have to say that it runs super smooth. I’m not the “regular use case” of enterprise Linux, however I really like to use Linux so, at this stage, I’m searching for the most stable distro I can find, and I have became a huge fan of enterprise Linux lately. (I know that there are great community distros but I never get the same level of stability that I’m having now with enterprise)
Anyway 15.5 SLED looks really good but I’m struggling with the available packages. In RHEL I can add extra packages with EPEL and RPM fusion so my question is:
there is something similar for SLED? (Yes… I’ve enable HUB at installation)
Something that it’s bothering me either it’s:
I’ve read that podman (I was trying to install distrobox) works and it’s available since version 15 but when I zypper search podman only returns 2 python packages. What am I missing?
Thank you all
Just wondering if there's still some official repos online available (something like https://archive.debian.org/debian/
).
I'm referring to this release: https://en.opensuse.org/Archive:SuSE_Linux_7.1
Thanks to all you dear geckos!!! ✌️
Can we please fix the update-icon app? Like seriously, it's like every other version of OpenSUSE, it breaks.
