Shower the People has provided 20,000 showers for homeless people in our community from our mobile shower trailer. To keep our show on the road, we need volunteer drivers who can take our trailer to and from our shower sites.
Volunteer Job Description:
We operate five days a week among four sites in SLO and Grover Beach.
Sign up for as many or as few of these shifts as you would like.
You do not need a special driver's license. A regular California driver's license and a reasonably clean driving record is sufficient. We will train you and give you an experienced buddy your first couple of times out.
To start the process of becoming a Shower the People volunteer, email showerthepeopleslo@gmail.com or click the Volunteer link at showerthepeopleslo.org.
Hey folks, I’m in need of a SLO County suit shop/try on store! Ideally this shop has suits cut for women as well as men, but if not that’s fine. Anything come to mind?
I need 2, 205/45R17 s for an older car. $65 on Amazon for unknown brand.
Hey Yall,
Looking at going to Shabang on Saturday, but I have a few questions from someone that's been to it before.
Anyone with an extra ticket they'll sell at a lower cost?
The "University" stage/area has a bunch of yoga stuff. Is it actually yoga stuff? and does anyone know what "Tantric Illumination Works" is??
Is Friday or Saturday going to be the better day??
I want to claw my eyes out
Hi! I am trying to help my mom (who is 58 years old) retire in the greater SLO area. I graduated from Cal Poly 7 years ago. My mom always loved visiting and now would like to retire in SLO.
What I don't know is which neighborhoods cater best to retired folks! Could you provide some suggestions? She is open to the broader area including SLO itself, Arroyo Grande, Five Cities, Atascadero, etc.
She will be renting. Studio, 1 bedroom or AUD is suitable. Rent of $1500-$2200 would be ideal.
It would be great to help her find a like-minded community. She loves health and fitness, going to the gym, hiking, etc. She is Christian and would love to be an active member of a local church. She is generally more conservative. She will have a car but also likes getting around by bike.
Any and all recs are greatly appreciated!
UPDATE: I understand the concerns about budget. I don’t want the budget to be too restrictive. It’s important to find a neighborhood that’s a good fit. If we increased it to $3000 maximum for a studio or 1 bedroom apartment, what neighborhoods would you recommend?
Any early bird places to eat. 4-5am?
My vote is Madonna and Higuera. So many issues.
Hey everyone. I have two tickets for the fest on Saturday. Decided to go do something else. I’m selling them for $125 each.
Online they’re selling them for $144 BEFORE fees. I figure to do it cheaper since I decided on something else ha!
Please let me know!!!
I'd like to borrow an oil drain pan to change my oil on my Sprinter. They are pretty affordable, but don't have anywhere to store it after I'm done changing my oil. I'll return it as clean as it was when I borrowed it! Can anyone help me out?
Hello - wondering if anyone has a recommendation for lymphatic drainage massage in the slo area ?
I just moved to SLO for work a couple months ago and only have been to a couple of tastings here (the only tastings I've done ever)
I don't really know anyone around here so I have a lot of different visitors, friends and family, from norcal and socal that I try to drag up here for the weekends -- so I'd like to get a wine club membership to take advantage of free group tastings and give my guests a nice and relaxing afternoon.
I don't think I've tried enough of the wineries around to make a decision on which membership to get, but I'm not super particular about wines (yet) but all I really know is that I enjoy reds better than whites.
That being said I'm more interested in the experience than the specific wines themselves, so a nice place to get a charcuterie board together, enjoy the sunshine, and hang out. Any good recommendations for wine clubs? I'm looking within the Edna valley area since I like to joke with my friends that "we have napa at home".
These are the places I've been, but would love other recs or opinions! I'm looking for something not outrageously expensive but also would be a great place to bring guests for free pretty often.
Baileyana - loved the garden
Wolff - my favorite view -- leaning towards a membership here, but their description of it is a bit confusing
Central Coast wines - open later in the evening, which I like
Hello SLO, hope everyone’s having a great day! I have an issue maybe someone can help with. I have a friend who needs a quick yard cleanup but he is out of town and his HOA is demanding it be fixed today. Mobile home so pretty small area. Shouldn’t take more than 30 mins or so. Is there anyone out there who would be up for doing a cleanup (paid) today? Or does anyone know someone who can help with this? Please let me know ASAP so details can be figured out. Thanks!
I bought 9 tomato plants at the Cal Poly Tomato show 10 days ago, but my situation has changed and now I don't have space for them. They have already doubled in size and need to be repotted or put into a garden. There's a broad variety of types and their pots are labeled. Free, and I could drop them off to you if you live near the city of SLO. PM me if interested.
I have friends and family visiting over the next few months and looking to give recommendations on places to avoid. Any over hyped or just generally not great places to avoid would be greatly helpful.
(This isn’t meant to be a shaming post, more for general information, so please be respectful still.)
This goes mostly for food, bars and hiking/hang out locations. Not so much interested in shopping and stuff like that. They don’t really have a specific location range but all of them are staying within SLO County for the duration of the visit.
Thanks.
Edit: Recommendations are highly encouraged!
Another One: Thanks for all the info so far, I’m making a list on the places you have recommended and have a list of the not so good places. Greatly appreciate all the input from everyone.
Hi everyone. I am soon moving to SLO to join as a professor at Cal Poly. I am moving from the east coast so I am finding it pretty rough to find a studio or a 1b/1b apartment. If there are any leads, that will be so very appreciated. Thank you!
Seriously want some Costco pizza right now
Does anyone know what they’re working on at the foot of Bishop’s peak? Off of W Foothill Blvd

My friend is visiting from out of town and i’m blanking on things to do this weekend.. any cool events going on? live music maybe? we’re both 22 f
Or is it write things wrong?
It appears I was a little hasty in coming to the conclusions that I did, and I apologize for that. What I've found now is that, by looking at the "past issues" of SLOGOP's newsletters here one can see another version where Dan Dow is listed as the host as well as several versions where Debbie Arnold was listed as the host, for example this one. So it seems like the host they had for the event swapped back and forth for some reason? Also since Dan Dow is listed in the most recent newsletter on the history page he may have been the host for the event after all. Again I apologize for the confusion this has caused, I'm not out here trying to defend crazy conservatives or anything like that, I've just been trying to figure out what's -really- going on.
