This sub exists to help the SETX music scene expand through a network of musicians, fans, and venues. It is an opportunity for well-established and new members of the music scene to promote themselves, establish/strengthen connections with others in the scene, hold discussions, or anything else that pertains to the Southeast Texas music scene in general. All opinions are welcome in this forum, but any posts that are needlessly offensive will be removed at the discretion of the mods.

Subreddit Rules:

1. Don't be a jerk.

This is a community aimed at strengthening our local music scene; This is not a place for you to come and badmouth a band, insult other members, or try to pick up women. We ` encourage useful and well-thought-out opinions and ideas. We will not tolerate needless bad-mouthing, racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. Do not post or comment in this subreddit unless they are related in some way to the SETX music scene, ie: bands, music, venue, fans.

2. Irrelevant or repeated posts will be removed.

In order to optimize content, we encourage people from all walks of life to post to this community. However, a post made that features a link to a non-local band's music will be removed unless said band has a member who is from SETX or if they have been through/will be coming through the SETX area soon.

3. Repeat rule offending or spamming will result in bans.

Only so much junk content can be tolerated. Any needless, unrelated content, insults or spam will be removed, and multiple offenders will be banned.

4. Posting rules.

Some good information to provide in the title of your post would be (if you are in a band) The band's name, the city they are from, a loose description genre (I know, I know that's hard), and any other info that is important to the content of the post.

4.1. Try to avoid posts that include only a music/video link. If your post is of this nature, try to include a discussion topic, related event, or something else.

This is not just a place to compile all of the SETX bands' youtube/soundcloud/bandcamp accounts; we encourage posts that engage discussion, analysis, or bring news to the readers, so let's try to keep the content fresh and attention-grabbing. Posts that consist of only links to a band's music will not be deleted, but we ask that you try to make your content as interesting as you can!

4.2. At this time, there are no formal tag systems in place for this community.

We encourage the use of tags, however, to better organize the information that will amass on this subreddit. Some ideas for tags to include in your title may be but are not limited to:

  • [BAND]

  • [FAN]

  • [VENUE]

  • [DISCUSSION]

  • [EVENT]

  • [REVIEW]

  • [Date] - [Location] - [Bands]

Again, at this time there are no formal tag systems in place, but who knows what changes will be made as the community grows and develops? For now, though, do your best to make the point of your post (be it promoting your band or discussing something) evident in the post title itself.

As this community grows and changes, more rules will become necessary. Until then, we would like to try to approach this subreddit with a very lax type of moderation and include as few rules as possible. Of course, this will not be possible if people repeatedly break the rules that we do have.

Let's try to keep this place full of good vibes. Just don't be a jerk, man.

Rhythm Guitarist/ Clawhammer banjo player looking for a band near Longview Texas

I've been looking for people who want to start a band. I play a good number of genres and I love making music! I also have a unique way of playing the guitar. I only use it while playing folk or subgenres of folk. I also love to add to my skillset.

We Are Wombat would like to throw a benefit show in Beaumont. Would anyone like to help?

If you don't know our bassist, Josh, then I feel bad for you because you're missing out. He's a cool guy. Unfortunately Josh has experienced some rough patches recently.

Josh recently got pile-driven by the establishment, is trying not to go to jail, and has acquired some legal fees. We are Wombat would like to throw a shin dig in order to not only raise some funds for him, but also bring a fun Wombat experience to the people yet again! :D

So this idea is brand spanking new, and is still at stage one of development. We are shooting for October 20th or 21st. We have only just begun looking for a venue, so we are currently in search of not only location options, but supporting acts as well! If you know someone for us to get in touch with about either of these things, your help would be very appreciated.

If you would like to contact me, you can either post a comment here, PM, Facebook, email (wearekylec@gmail.com) or call/text me if you have that info. Thus far we don't have any options at all and would like to see what the people would like from another Wombat event. We promise to make it fun and look forward to hearing from y'all.

One Love Kyle

My name is Kyle and I found some recordings I made about 5 years ago with my good friend Zachary Colten. They're largely unheard, maybe you'll find them interesting for some reason? Written and recorded in a period of 5 days.

A bit of backstory for anyone who is interested,

in 2012, my dad went out of town for a week and gave permission for Zachary and I to turn his house into a makeshift studio while he was gone. With only a single microphone, a shitty laptop, and unhealthy lack of sleep, we made this. I think I called it "The Man In The Mirror," I'm not sure. This whole tape was written and recorded in under 5 days.

I cannot be thankful enough to have stumbled upon these recently. They aren't the greatest recordings (or the greatest songs) you've heard by far. To be honest I think they're terrible in a really great way. But, I love them solely because it reminds me of a really fun time of my life. You might not appreciate them at all, and if so, then i'm sorry for that. But only a little sorry.

I hope you find these interesting for one reason or another.

One Love, Kyle

Would you care enough to go to a We Are Wombat reunion show?

Hi guys,

My name is Kyle. I created this subreddit. I'm not sure if people still read it, but I have a bit of news that I consider to be important.

Anyways, I used to play in a band called We Are Wombat. We were pretty good, if you ask me. We used to have fun at shows with all of our friends, from Tequila Rok to the Rose. More fun than you can know, unless you were there.

My birthday is in July (the 12th) and we have decided to try and throw a Wombat reunion show the weekend after somewhere in SETX. That's what I want for my birthday. A show like we used to throw in 2012-2014. An all out rager, where everyone would have a good time no matter what.

My questions are as follows:

Would you go see We Are Wombat again?

Who would you like to see play with us?

Where should we have the show?

I want to throw a show like SETX used to do, and I want your help to make it as awesome as we possibly can. Any and all suggestions are welcome here. If there are any SETX bands who would like to play at this show, please send me demos as soon as you can. If you know of a venue that would be willing to have us, please send me details. This idea is still in it's infancy, but we'll need all the help we can get!

One Love, Kyle

Calling all Texas musicians! Want to be featured on a LIVE podcast where you can video chat with your fanbase and showcase your music to people all over the world? The Texas Music Spotlight Podcast is looking to do just that.

Using the innovative interface of Blab.im the Texas Music Spotlight (#TMS) is looking for musicians of any genre to be featured in a 30+ minute live video interview where fans can "call" in and be a part of the show! What's up with this dead ass sub?

There is a lot of music in SETX. Very diverse actually. I've been a part of it for a long time... A really long time. The current state of our music "scene" is basically shit. No venues, no support...no anything. It's really depressing!

We Are Wombat has made an agreement with Wrong Side of Texas Records to put out a vinyl, and WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Huzzah! Another release from We Are Wombat!

Wrong Side of Texas Records has agreed to put out a shiny new We Are Wombat vinyl. We are incredibly excited about this opportunity to bring something new to our friends/listeners, so we want to make it an album that people will sincerely enjoy.

Making this album will only require that we pay for the cost of studio expenses and mastering. Since we are a band, we are quite poor, and trying to do this on our own dime will result in an album that we do not deem to be on par with what the people deserve. So, we'd like to organize the greatest benefit show to ever grace SETX. This is entirely too much work for us alone, so we were wondering if anyone would be interested in volunteering to help plan/run this event and make sure it's one EVERYONE remembers.

This idea is only in the beginning stages of conception, so the date, location, and everything else have not even been determined yet. We want to turn this benefit for We Are Wombat into one that benefits everyone else as well, and what better way to do that than have the community help put it together?

If enough interest is shown, I will be making a Facebook group and will post the link here. Thanks in advance, SETX. WE LOVE YOU!
