WELCOME, NEWCOMERS!

REPORT TROLLS HERE

/r/Retconned is a public sub for discussion of the Retcon Effect under the presupposition that for whatever reason, it is really happening, at the exclusion of the theory of Confabulation or "it's always been that way", "you remembered it incorrectly", "you were taught wrong when you were growing up", "surely mapping technology has gotten better by now", "logos change over time" or even "it's a very common mix-up/misconception".

Reports of micro-effects, or personal-reality-breaking experiences, are welcomed.

I remember a classmate that doesn’t exist

Back in 5th grade, I remember there was a new student named Sirage who came to the school in the middle of the year. I remember his face and his clothes and everything, but I have no proof of his existence and he soon vanished without a trace, with nobody remembering him having ever been there. It was as if he never existed in the first place, and I never even remembered him until fairly recently.

NASA changing location in the milkyway

NASA changing our location from the Sagittarius arm to the Orion arm with no public announcement on the matter, you can use the waybackmachine to see were NASA changed it on there website

That's thousands of light-years off, these are the brightest scientific minds that cross refrence all information with people around the globe before saying anything is fact, so why changed it with no public announcement?

The milkyway is 100,000 light-years across so for us to travel from where they had us to where we are now is impossible to do, and even if we did move or they did indeed get it wrong why not inform us about it?

Video explaining it: https://youtu.be/zmFNiT--zFo

If you want the waybackmachine link and the NASA website itself to compare them just let me know and ill update this, currently working so just typing this up between jobs

Hocus Pocus ME?

I decided to watch the Halloween classic Hocus Pocus tonight in honor of the holiday. My partner and I both thought Binx looked different this time and started wondering if Disney had enhanced his character somehow - we both remembered him being more like a puppet and less animated in his face. No, we are not confusing him with Salem from Sabrina - I remember Binx being higher quality than Salem but still having some puppet-like qualities. I checked clips on YouTube and they look the same 15 years ago as they do now, so it doesn’t seem likely Disney digitally enhanced anything. Has anyone else had this experience? Is my memory really failing me that badly? I watch this movie almost every year and this is the first time it’s seemed off to me.

How many people here don't think Cern caused the Mandela Effect?!👀🤔

So... Just checking.. Before Cern's Lhc was built and fired up, there were always bad things going on in the world right? Why do people wanna blame a particle accelerator for bad things?👀🤔

Also yes.. Some christians do believe in the big bang as well as God..

No 1 ever blames aliens..👀🤔

How did Keith Moon die?

So, while we know this and the official cause is a drug overdose, in my childhood it wasn’t that simple.

I have a friend who, to this day, has a fantastic memory. Like, remembers quotes from movies he saw one time 30 years or more ago, at one specific place in the film. He has a head for history, oddball facts, and more accurately recounts things that have happened in his life and to his friends better than we do.

Anyhow, he has continuously reiterated that Keith Moon “jumped into a swimming pool with no water in it and died,” allegedly after getting high on drugs. When I went to college (before Wikipedia), other people seemed to remember variations such as “he drove his car into a swimming pool,” or “he blew himself up from putting too much gunpowder into his drums,” or at a party with Eric Idle right before filming “Life of Brian.”

The latter two don’t hold much weight and figure more into conflation of events twisted into imaginary fatality, but I don’t get the “jumping into a swimming pool with no water in it,” ever surfacing for any reason, when other rock musicians have died from overdoses and other factors are never invented out of thin air about them (or in Elvis’ case, he never ODed because he’s still alive). There are still some places online you can find this where this has been posted, although over time Google tends to eliminate many of the urban legends and replace them with facts, so you see less and less of that now.

WOW. Minx fur coats are now MINK fur coats.

This is the biggest one I've found in years.

A minx fur coat is now a 'mink' fur coat.

According to online dictionaries,

This was never the case. The Minx was a furry animal with exceptionally soft fur, and was hunted to near extinction, which is why these fur coats were made illegal. Apparently it's still legal now, so there's another one for the books. Incredible.

Has anybody noticed that the second hand on the clock is ticking much faster?

What’s happening? I clearly remember that, in the '90s era, the second hand moved slowly—I could close my eyes and count 1, 2, 3. Now it’s much faster, almost as if it’s moving at double the speed.

Smokey the Bear

I found this last night looking for baseball hats. Not sure if this counts as residue in the classic sense.

Do you remember the robber emoji?

I sure do. And it's described identically by everyone who's mentioned it before. I had it in 2016 on Facebook messenger. There are no pics of such an emoji online anymore.

I remember the "agressive" emojis were replaced or taken out. In such a way, the gun emoji became a watergun. But why wouldn't there be pics of that robber emoji that used to be?

Does someone know how to completely erase the existence of something from the Internet?

Kindegarten Cop - O'Hara no longer pregnant and just ill?

I rewatched Kindergarten Cop today and noticed the Phoebe O'Hara (the cop that couldn't go undercover) is just ill in it, when I remember when I watched as a kid she was pregnant in the film which explained her constant puking, then she thought she was sick but ended up finding out she was pregnant..

I tried googling it and all I could find was one site where a random user remembered the character as pregnant.

Does anyone else remember her being pregnant in the film or was she always just ill?

Escape At Dannemora... Not What I Remember

I recall the real life events, nine years ago, but just watched the (excellent 👍🏻👍🏻!) series, on Netflix. Some of what I recall does not jibe with events portrayed in the series. Like, at all.

  • I don't remember that Joyce Mitchell never showed up. My memory is that she'd showed up late and wound up dropping them off somewhere nearby, and I certainly don't recall the subplot of the plan to murder her husband.

-She was hospitalized the night they made the escape? 🤣🤣 since when?

-I remembered both inmates being captured, together and alive.

Just me?

I even went and watched some real news coverage, just to verify that the series did not just, for some reason, take off on its own direction, (which, why would Ben Stiller even do that?)

The movie Her (2013) was actually called Samantha?

I recalled the reason why I clicked on the movie was because it was titled "Samantha" and I saw the name Samantha somewhere else that day so it caught my attention.

Anyone else remember this?

New "Goodfellas", Mandela effect.

Hi. I've seen Goodfellas multiple times & only just noticed this ME upon re-watching it two nights ago. In the scene where Henry Hill is pinched for the first time as a kid, there's a very distinctive scene where his mob lawyer flashes a "knowing grin", to the judge, ostensibly to inform the viewer that both the lawyer & the judge are, "on the take."

The mob lawyer smiles at the judge & he has a very shiny, very distinctive gold tooth, that glistens & reflects. Now, it's been replaced by a silver tooth that barely shines. Unbelievable.

Another ME that is made worse by wrecking the authenticity of the original film, much like dollys braces in the bond film. The scene barely makes any sense now because the lawyer doesn't have a gold tooth! There's a shiny tooth now, but you can barely see it.

Makes me think there must have been a shift lately! What do you think? Have you seen Goodfellas, & if so, do you clearly remember the lawyers shiny gold tooth?

Thanks 🙏👍

Retconned used to be in the top list of Paranormal & Unexplained

Retconned used to be in the top list of Paranormal & Unexplained on Reddit. Not as high as the main group that was in top 6 or something, but still there. Both fell down a few spots, but Retconned fell simply out.

Not sure what the moral is here. Most of those groups are alien related. One has as little as 2k members.

Mandela Effect Survey

For any and all interested in participating, I've put together a Mandela Effect survey for means of gathering more data as part of my own ongoing research of this phenomena. It is 75 questions and honestly could have been much longer. The link is posted below. For those that do participate, I appreciate your input.

Lastly, I would like to reach out to those from outside of the United States who are Mandela Effected and may have had other experiences related to quantum occurrence phenomena. So many still believe that this is localized and/or the result of "Americans being uneducated." I've encountered several on other platforms as well as this sub from Japan, Russia, India, and Australia who are aware of the ongoing changes to reality and I'm sure that there are more. Also, if there are any medical professionals who would like to reach out to discuss changes observed in human anatomy, behaviors, etc. please feel free to do so. All are allowed to reach me in chat here on Reddit via DM for now.

Mods if you feel this survey may be inappropriate or violates a rule please delete the post.

What percentage of these esoteric Reddit groups are bots?

The UFO community has nearly 3 million members and a constant base of over 1200 active members online at any hour, every day. The number may grow up to 1400 sometimes, but never less than 1200.

Retconned has 60+ online members, and the other group has 40+ online members.

We all know dead Internet theory, and that article stating Eiglin airforce base is the most Reddit adicted town, with over 10 Reddit accounts per citizen.

Reddit is 50% American users. I would expect that if the active users were real, the numbers should fluctuate across the day, based on time zones. But they don't. Are these numbers made by fake accounts?

I was caught off guard last night when looking for a film to watch. I noticed Ben Stiller in this 1994 “Reality Bites” cover and have no recollection of him being in it at all. It was, I am certain, Matt Dillon in my timeline.

Recipe personal ME

My mother used to make pumpkin pie with evaporated milk, I remember going to the store for it all the time and even getting complaints if I got sweetened condensed milk. But a few years ago the recipe was suddenly using sweetened condensed milk and supposedly always did.

Time of the light from the sun

It takes the sun a little over 7 minutes to reach Earth. Or.. That's how it's always been for me. But it seems that the consensus now is 8 minutes and 20 seconds.

I am sure it wasn't always like that.

Strange if it have been changed. Fundamental physics is changing? If true the distance to the sun must have changed or the speed of light.

Leaf lettuce. Expectations and tolerance of previously unimaginable low levels of quality and/or freshness.

Since when did serving, eating or ignoring how spoiled and rotten it may be, leaf lettuce become ok?

I will never understand how or why leaf lettuce became a food that is never too rotton to consume. The only vegetable or food that I know of that is edible even when it is so old and spoiled that it is literally transparent and/or gelatin in places. I've been all over the desert southwest and California and the conventional wisdom out here is that decaying leaf lettuce that's browning, disgusting and well into the rotten garbage stage of decay is not only considered to be ok to serve and eat, it is so commonly acceptable, it's the norm.

When I was2age in the 80s, I worked on about 40 different restaurants of all kinds and nowhere would serving wilted, decaying lettuce not get you fired or worse.

Am I the only one noticing this?
