Charlotte, better known as Charlie, is headed to her forever Friday morning! So excited for this girl!
I actually think this is quite adorable, considering her could have done so much worse
A humble ask for just encouragement and support. I adopted my rescue about a year ago, and I love her endlessly. She's curious, friendly, affectionate, and smart. She loves meeting new dogs and new people and tippy-tappies around our apartment to see what I am up to. I feel like I hit the jackpot with her naturally sweet disposition and her wonderful snuggles.
*And*, life with her so far has been way, way, way more than I anticipated. I *totally* understand that with rescues (and dogs in general!), there are always unknowns, risks, expenses, etc. When I went through the adoption process, I was seeking a young adult/adult dog with moderate energy. I am a single woman who lives alone, and I didn't want to get a puppy/dog who had a ton of energy or with a lot of needs I wouldn't be able to meet. About a month after I adopted her - a "chill" young adult - our adventures began.
In the last year, I got her through her heartworm treatment (which was very challenging), two major GI emergencies, including one hospitalization; one dog attack; one round of kennel cough; one mysterious skin issue that required visits to a canine dermatologist and a canine cardiologist; figuring out her food allergies; and a lot of reactivity challenges. She's also much younger than the rescue originally estimated, so she's grown several inches in length and is proportionately heavier, which is hard on my body when I need to pick her up.
And, now that we are through heartworm treatment and I've figured out her food allergies and improved her diet, her energy is off the wall. She needs hours and hours per day of enrichment, walking, hiking, etc.
I've taken control as best I can, I think: I worked with a dog trainer, I am reading a book about dog health and disgestion, I'm doing lots of enrichment exercises with her, I'm getting up earlier to take her to the park for longer periods of time before I start work in the morning, I'm creative with enrichment activities and have an abundance of challenging enrichment toys, and I am asking family and friends to help watch her. People adore her and are happy to help (but I also don't want to ask too often as she can be a LOT). She goes to dog daycare one day per week, which I can't afford, but I can't afford to not send her.
All this to say: I'm emotionally and financially beyond exhausted. My nervous system is shot. I have pet insurance, but my out-of-pocket costs have sailed well into 5-figure range. I can barely keep up with my apartment, and as a previous distance runner, I haven't gone for a run in months.
There is no going back - I am totally in love with her and committed to giving her the best life I can. As I was typing this, she came over to ask for pets and gave me a smooch. <3
Any basic encouragement is extremely welcome. TYIA, truly.
TL, DR: Wonderful rescue doggo had a first year FULL of challenges; adoring doggo mom is absolutely exhausted and kindly requests "it [likely] gets better"-type sentiments.

I am currently in a situation that I have to unfortunately and unwillingly move from my current house and in to a new place that does not allow pets. If I had the choice I would have chosen a place that allows them but I do not have that choice. I've been searching everywhere for new homes for my fur babies (3 American Staffordshire Terriers), for a month now. And will be forced to move any day now. Friends and family said no, and every shelter I've contacted are at full capacity. I don't know what to do at this point. I just want them to go to a loving family like they are used to.
I have Stormy ( female black tuxedo) and Lightning ( male brindle) they are both about 5 yrs old. And Mr Pickles ( male black tuxedo) he's one and a half, and Stormy and Lightning are his parents.
They are all good with adults and children, they love any and everyone.
Stormy is fine with all other dogs male or female but Lightning and Mr Pickles can not be around other male dogs or each other.
They all where raised with chickens and ducks as well. The males don't care one bit about them, but Stormy will eat them and has eaten a few chickens.
Any help would be appreciated. I love my babies and this is really hard for me and my 12 yr old daughter.
Thank
We adopted a 7 month old pit mix rescue about a week ago. We have had many different breeds of dog, big, small, you name it. We currently have a mini aussie.
When I say the last week has been a nightmare....thats an understatement. I feel so bad for feeling this way, but I do.
First of all, this dog has No Settle. My aussie is worn out. We have been correcting dominant behavior, but its like when we give a correction to her, it's gas on the fire. The play between our two dogs just goes too far. I'm used to a puppy or a dog playing for a while, getting tired and then settling for a while. There is no de escalation with this dog and I'm a a loss as to what to do. My poor aussie is totally worn out.
Second, I have cleaned up 12 accidents tonight in the last 3 hours. Not exaggerating. I asked the vet Monday to test her for a uti and the results are still out. Even from a young puppy, I have never had this much trouble with a dog having accidents. She has no awareness of it whatsoever and gives no cues, hence we can't catch it in time to take her put. When we do take her out, she will pee 2 or 3 times in a few minutes, and then come inside and pee all over again. I am almost to my breaking point with this.
I feel so bad......we really love this dog and she is absolutely the sweetest. But idk how to get past all this. Few things discourage me, but I'm at an absolute Loss.
Any advice is welcome. I'm sorry for seeming dramatic. We just need some improvement to these situations. We have small children as well and we need things to be safe enough for them as well...
TIA
As we approach this holiday season, many of us are blessed with the warmth and comfort of our homes. But for countless pets in shelters, this time of year can be especially difficult. They may not have a cozy bed, a loving family, or a festive meal to look forward to.
This Christmas, I’m reaching out to ask for your help in making a difference for these animals. Your donations, big or small, will go directly toward providing food and the love they need to feel safe and cared for during the holidays. With your generosity, we can help give these pets the gift of hope and a better future.
Every little bit counts — whether it’s $5 to buy a warm blanket or $10 for a healthy meal. Your support will help ensure that no pet is left without love this Christmas.
Thank you for opening your heart to those who need it most. Wishing you all a joyful holiday season filled with love and compassion.
I am donating to Last Minute Dog Rescue and Dorset Rescue Kittens. My plan is to make 10 "Paw Bags" for each rescue. They will be given to fosters in need for each animal that are supporting
The unconditional love saves me every day. From being surrendered because his ears wouldn’t stand, to taking half of my queen sized bed, Howard is my everything.
As of yesterday this boy was pending adoption at OKC. I’ll comment if I get something more official, I just wanted to let everyone know he didn’t get unalived 💞
