Monday night game still happening?

Saw that the deadline to flex teams out of MNF was 12 days before kickoff (which for us would today). Any word on if we’re actually getting flexed out of MNF? Trying to attend but don’t want to book travel plans for the wrong days

Travis Hunter AND Shedeur?!

If we somehow hold onto the #1 pick, do you guys think it's within the realm of possibility that we grab Travis Hunter and then ALSO trade up to get back to back picks to grab Shedeur?

Houston did it in 2023 (granted, they had two 1sts from another trade), so there's precedent that its possible. AND we have the capital to do it: Houston sent #12, #33, and a future 1st and 3rd, but WE currently have one of the top picks in round 2 landing around #33 - 35, plus two of the top round 3 picks around #63 - 65. If we package those with a future 1st and a future 3rd or more, I think it's possible!

Houston flipped their franchise around with how aggressive they were in 2023's draft. I know Telesco isn't known for trading up, but I would hope he sees the glaring needs for a dominant QB1, WR1, AND CB1. Not to mention, we've seen the success from QB's being paired with their top collegiate WR options.

Tin foil hat time, boys, call me crazy but I feel like it's possible!

We dont really have to tank for #1 that badly

A lot of people here very vocal about wanting that #1 pick. And, of course, the #1 is always better than any other...but I dont think it's going to make too much of a difference, if you want to see us take a top rated QB

If you look at all the other teams with 4 or fewer wins right now (10 total)...6 of them dont have any immediate need at QB (Bears, Bengals, Titans, Panthers, Pats, and Jags, assuming Lawrence didnt just have a career-ending concussion). Two probably wont be drafting a QB, unless something major changes (Saints with Carr, Browns with either Watson or Winston). So that just leaves NYG and maybe the Jets, if they decide to try and draft Rodgers' replacement this year.

That means pretty much any pick in the top 10 will leave us either Sanders or Ward, if those are your top two guys. Last year was a QB glut, so this year is likely going to be low demand for QBs.

"But what if another team trades up ahead of us to target a QB?"

I dont think that's likely...neither Sanders or Ward are really super-high rated, at least not yet...and the teams that might target a trade-up (e.g. DAL) probably wont want to pay the huge premium to move into the top 5 for them. Plus, there just arent a lot of teams right now with big glaring QB needs. Most either have decent QBs, or just drafted one high in the last year or two, and probably wont be looking to draft another first-rounder so soon. Its a buyers' market for QBs this year. Another reason not to overpay to move up for one.

So I think you can park the tank. Unless things radically change through December, we're well on course to having a decent option available to us wherever we end up in the first third of the draft.

Tankathon week 14 preview

The Raiders continued their losing streak to 8 games with a heartbreaking loss at KC. All 8 of the teams with 2 or 3 wins lost this past weekend. However, we jumped ahead of the Giants in SOS to move into 2nd place in the draft.

Week 14 has a number of key matchups including the Raiders playing at Tampa Bay (highlighting the games for teams with 3 wins or less; SOS highlighted for Raiders and Giants since NY is closest to us in the SOS battle):

  • Raiders (2-10) at Bucs (6-6). The Raiders have been playing much better since Gestsy was canned, even more so with AOC last week. This is a coin flip in my eyes. A Bucs win also negatively impacts the Giants' SOS.
  • Jags (2-10) at Titans (3-9). A tie would be ideal but a Jags win would be good too. These teams also play each other again before the year ends. A Titans win helps our SOS. The Giants don't play either team this year so no SOS impact for them.
  • Jets (3-9) at Dolphins (5-7). The Jets keep hanging around in the thick of the tankathon. This would be a tough win for them at Miami. A Jets win would also help our SOS.
  • Saints (4-8) at Giants (2-10). This might be the last chance for the Giants to pull off a win this season. A Saints win is a SOS wash for the Raiders and Giants.
  • Panthers (3-9) at Eagles (10-2). The Panthers have been playing much better recently as Bryce Young is starting to slowly become what Carolina thought he was when they drafted him. It would be a miracle if they pulled off a win though. A Panthers win would also be a big hit to the Giants' SOS.
  • Browns (3-9) at Steelers (9-3). Winston has been playing up and down each week so you never know which version of him will show up. The Steelers would be incredibly tough to beat in their stadium. No SOS impact for the Raiders and Giants as both teams play these 2 this season.

Other SOS impacting games:

  • A Bengals win at Dallas would have a big impact on the Giants' SOS
  • A Bills win helps our SOS
  • A Seahawks win hurts the Giants' SOS
  • A Vikings win helps our SOS

Look the difference in Denver

Denver looks day and night different with first round QB and someone you here DON'T want to draft a QB? It's amazing to me that some "fans" are willing to go 2-14 again next year just maybe get a guy in 2 years. A new QB can fix a lot

Brock Bowers can, and will, make history this year.

Amongst rookie TE’s in the history of the game, Mike Ditka has the record for most yards (1,076 yds in 14 games), longest reception (79 yards) and most touchdowns (12 in 14 games) in a rookie season. LaPorta holds the record of most receptions in a rookie season (86 in 17 games). The record for most touchdowns by a rookie TE in a single game (3) is tied by 8 players, with notable names such as: Ray Chester, Mike Ditka, Sam LaPorta and Rob Gronkowski. Jackie Smith holds the record for rookie TE receiving yards in a single game (212 yards). The only player who ever got close to breaking Ditka’s receiving yards record was Kyle Pitts (1,026 yards in 17 games).

Other notable TE single season records or single game records: Shannon Sharpe holds both the longest touchdown and reception (96 yards) by any TE in a single game (and a TE playoff record, too), along with the most receiving yards by any TE in a single game (214 yards). Zach Ertz holds the most receptions in a single season (116 in 16 games). Rob Gronkowski has the most touchdowns (18) and most receiving touchdowns (17) in a single season. Kellen Winslow has the most touchdowns in a single game (5…and it was against the Raiders). Travis Kelce holds the most receiving yards in a season (1,416 yards in 15 games, he was sat in the season finale). Jason Witten holds the record for most receptions in a game (18).

Brock Bowers, as of right now, is at 84 receptions for 884 yards with 4 touchdowns in 12 games. He has 5 games remaining. He only need 3 receptions to break the rookie reception record and only 193 yards to break the rookie receiving yards record. I can realistically see that getting done in the next 2 games, and it would make it sweeter so no one can use Ditka having less games to achieve it. I don’t see the touchdown record happening unless he get AOC to only target him the next few games. I do see him breaking the single season receiving yards and receptions record. He has 5 games to do so, and only needs 23 receptions and 532 yards more to go to break both of those records. Another record he may potentially break, if targeted enough, is the single game reception record by any TE.

Brock Bowers make the prospect of drafting a rookie QB actually exciting

A young QB best friend is a A) TE and B) running game. We obviously have 0 running game but rushing truly can be improved year by year. What we do have is the best young TE in football, and he's not even near his prime. Growing a rookie QB with that is exciting

Lamar, Burrow, Allen

Are all QB that most of you would sell your family to have at QB, they all faced the chiefs this year and they, nor, any other QB this year could pass for 300+ yards against this Defense. Only AOC has, just food for thought as this D is serious and the reason they won the Super Bowl last year.

If we miss out on a QB and have to go BPA who would you want?

Let's say we're at pick 4, and Ward/Sanders are taken but a lot of talented guys are available. It sucks that this year we have to get a QB in an okay class, but can't get one of these top non-QB prospects. My personal favorites who I feel can elevate our team are Travis Hunter, Will Johnson, and Ashton Jeanty.

Travis Hunter is the best overall player in this draft, but it is questionable which side of the ball he'll dedicate himself to. WRs make more money, but he's a better CB than WR so teams may lowball him there. The guy isn't generational in a position like Bowers, but he is a generational athlete as this guy's speed and stamina to take multiple snaps is insanely impressive. He can ballhawk, catch balls from any distance, make big plays on both defense and offense, plus he can lock a WR down. The issue is that he isn't the best at neither of these positions, he's still great but not the best like Will Johnson or McMillan(debatable).

Will Johnson is the best CB in this class and whichever team gets him is going to be very lucky. My biggest issue with him is his gambler mentality as he depends heavily on his assumptions. It's what makes him successful, but at the same time he can get beat out due to the wrong decisions. Thankfully he's very Conservative at crucial moments and is versatile as he can play man-to-man and zone. I don't think he'd truly elevate the team in an explosive way, but he is a weapon that can make us have one of the best secondaries in the league. With Bennett, Hobbs(If he resigns), and him you'll have QBs stay out or overly in the pocket trying to make plays while getting pressured by our overpowered D-Line.

Ashton Jeanty at pick 4 is a reach, but a needed one. If we have to stick with AOC then we need a great run game to make things easier on him. We have Bowers, Mayer, Meyers, and Tucker so do we really need another WR? I'd rather have a monstrosity at running back than another passing game weapon, and it sounds crazy but he's the only prospect that can truly make our offense explosive. Travis Hunter is a generational athlete but without a great run game or QB, then he'd end up being another WR who will sometimes get the ball. Jeanty is an immediate impact like Bowers which is what we need if we don't have the best QB.

What do you think and who would you want us to draft if there's no QBs left?

Should our first round QB sit for a year?

I’m of the belief that every rookie QB should sit their first year, taking time to groom the QB into a true student of the NFL game. Do you think we should take this approach, and if so, who would be the ideal one-year vet to take our first round pick under their wing?

My friend has now been to 13 Raiders games since 2006. They are 0-13. What are the odds?

Hello friends.

You may remember me from a few months back, where I wrote a lengthy post detailing the mathematically unlikely misadventures of a friend (and Raiders fan) attending 12 Raiders games in his lifetime, and not witnessing a single win.

Here are some of my favourite comments from that post:

“Maybe feed him some dairy that has slightly turned. It won't be full on food poisoning, but the raging diarrhea should be enough to keep him at home close to a toilet” - @ForayIntoFillyloo

“Oh my God, he's gonna make us lose to Bryce-fucking-Young?” - @ Caer-Rythyr

“What's ypur friends address?” - @BasicProdigy

In the comments, I mentioned that he would be attending the Week 3 home opener where the Raiders would be hosting the Panthers, and you all know how that went.

The Raiders lost. And my friend’s record moved to 0-13.

If you thought 0-12 was unlikely, then what about 0-13?

Here are the updated numbers: a The Numbers (Updated)

  • He did not do himself any favours by attending games where the Raiders were usually underdogs.
  • They were favoured in only 4/13 (-5.5 x2, -3, -3), and greater than 7 pt underdogs in 7/13 (+15, +10.5, +10, +9, +8.5, +8, +7.5).
  • The average probability of the Raiders winning in any of these games was only 35.12%, equivalent to being a 3.5 underdog.
  • The Raiders total win % in every season he went to a game was 32.76%, which is close enough to the average odds of the games he attended.
  • Even if you take away the losses he attended from every season he attended a game, their total record is still only 57-104, or a win percentage of 35.40%, equivalent to ~6-11 record in a 17 game season (2017 and 2023 are only counted once in this calculation, though he went to two games these years).
  • Clearly, the Raiders have been historically bad since the start of his fandom, with only two winning seasons 2016 (12-4) & 2021 (10-7). Unfortunately for him, he didn’t attend a game in either of these seasons.

Based on all the data I’ve collected, the odds that the Raiders would go 0-13 in those 13 specific games, based on their pre-game probability of winning those games, is ~0.1452%.

Here are some things that have similar odds:

  • A 6’7’’ man being born in the US .
  • Flipping a coin and guessing right 9 times in a row.
  • Guessing a random two-letter combination on the first try.
  • Being dealt a full house in random group of 5 cards.
  • Picking a random starter on offence OR defence, from any team in the league, on your first try.
  • Picking a random Raiders draft pick from a list that includes every round since 1964.

So why the update? I wanted to let you all know. He’s going this weekend.

So um… good luck.
