I was wondering if anyone here has any resources or experience/advice about recovering old data (I'm talking 15 years) from websites like Facebook, Microsoft (Hotmail), MySpace, and/or wireless companies (Verizon Wireless).

Without going into too much detail, a series of crimes were committed against me when I was a child over the span of 4-5 years. I have extensive proof if I can recover that data from my own accounts. Some of those accounts were deleted for lack of use, some of them I requested the deletion of to try and get away from the memory of those crimes. Outside of that data, I have personal testimony and proof this person was in the location of the crimes taking place at specific times, and their involvement in my life. But not the crimes themselves.

I am trying to protect other children and collect this data for a police report, but feel very out of my depth. Thanks for any advice or recommendations.

These photos were found on an unwound roll of film at a garage sale in 2004. Since the roll was unwound, they were never seen by the man who took them or his family. He clearly had a great eye -- he might have even been a professional photographer? It's always felt like an unsolvable mystery to me but an intriguing one: Who took these photos and why was the camera (and the undeveloped roll) lost? I would love your help identifying the man who took these photos (and who is in 3 of them, I think) so that I can give them to his (grand)children.  

I think the photos are beautiful. They're well-composed yet beautifully natural. They must have sentimental value to someone out there. He clearly cared about these pictures and yet, they sat unwound in a camera for decades. Was the camera lost? Did the photographer die? It was pure luck that the roll was wound and developed.

WHAT I KNOW:

• They came from a 6x6 camera (possibly a Rolleiflex) in the NYC area in 2004.
• The men are in the US Air Force
• One of the friends is named ADAMS.
• I presume the photographer is in photos #1, #3 and #4.
• I presume the photographer's wife or girlfriend is in photo #3

WHAT I WANT TO KNOW:

• When were these taken? WWII? Korea?
• Where were they taken?
• Who was the photographer.

JCM Farming is a fortified olive farm with armed guards and dogs. They buillied and sued many hot air ballon operators out of buisness, as they were "invading" there private property.

Seems very sketchy to me, one document also mentions it is a safe place for the meeting of "ultra high net worth" people.

A few months ago, I heard this robotic alarm sound go off in my flat. It sounded for like thirty seconds, it wasn’t constant but different tones. I assumed at the time it was my smoke detector but that’s absolutely fine and not heard anything since, the CO2 detector is outside in my outdoor cupboard and I know it was not that. My fridge doesn’t make a beeping sound when left open, my washing machine makes a chime when it’s done but it definitely wasn’t that. I have searched everywhere in my flat was anything else that would make that sound, definitely not my phone or watch or any other electronic. I think about it every once in a while and have checked anything over the course of the months to see if anything makes that sound but absolutely nothing? I thought about it again tonight hence the post and still don’t know what it could be? I swear down I have checked everything that is electronic and nothing makes that sound and the sound has never reappeared.

So weird and a little bit scary seeing as I heard it one time and never again since. Anyone had this and checked everything and just know it’s nothing you own or have in the flat? I live on a bottom floor flat too and it sounded like it was in my flat not flat above as it was pretty loud and I can’t hear much from my above neighbours as I’m hard of hearing.

Hello, I recently got a new number and have been called repeatedly by a number that verizon verified as "Healthcare", they repeatedly called me and didn't leave a voicemail for 3 months until here lately they started leaving a voicemail, a 8 sec tapping then hanging up. They will randomly call all hour of the day, 0 calls to 32 a day (my highest). I block them then they call me back again at a slightly different number. This is making me go insane and verizon call filter wont do anything because its a verified number. Should I ignore it, or answer it? I can give you guys recent numbers and the carrier if it would help someone out there.

I've had my car for only 3 days, and the headlight from a work van detached and smashed into my hood, scratching up the entire front of the car. I do have a good dashcam video, but cannot make out the license plate or the two phone numbers (one on the back of the trailer and one is on the side of the van).

Happened in Ohio, red semi was doing a u-turn on a highway which caused death of a driver trailing the truck. Truck driver stopped for a minute, then drove off.

I’ve been trying to see the text, but the image itself is too poor. There is a company within 2 hour drive which has red trucks with similar white texting around the same area. There is also a metal/casting company around the same direction from where the truck was first was seen.

Anyone have any ideas?

The Intercept was somehow able to figure out that an Israeli company was involved in a $35m US defense contract. I just can't understand how they did it. I went to this website: https://escribana.org/a-new-pentagon-papers-in-the-middle-east/. That website listed the contract as W912GB-23-0005, but I ended up not being able to find a contract by that name, so then I remembered that the DOD publishes many contracts that have been awarded if they're over a certain amount, I believe it was in the high digit millions, so say $7m. I found out the contract was actually W912GB-23-C-0005 according to the DOD's website. https://www.defense.gov/News/Contracts/Contract/Article/3480934/ Now, the company that won the contract was Bryan Ashush JV. The thing is according to that article published by The Intercept the Israeli company in question is Y.D. Ashush, but that could just be a coincidence that both companies have "Ashush" in the name. I'm guessing that JV is short for joint venture, which is a partnership between companies that allows them to take on government contracts as one legal entity, at least that's how I understand it. The thing is though that's just a guess. I'd like to figure out how Y.D. Ashush is involved in the contract. How big a piece of the contract are they getting? Is there even a way to figure out how Y.D. Ashush is tied to Bryan Ashush JV? I’m seeking help on behalf of my mom who has been going through a terrifying situation for the past few months. She’s been the target of an ongoing harassment disaster and I’m honestly starting to worried about her safety. Burner account for a reason, here's a timeline

July 19, 2024:

Harassment began with a woman who claims to be called "Sonia" in a city just south of us, she initially began to send my mom the classic “Girl watch out, this guy you’re with ain’t good” but then it turned into nasty insults and very personal jabs with personal info that only a bitter ex would know about her.

The calls escalate from basic threats to incredibly personal details like her full name, our address, her birthdate, and very, very, very specific details about an ongoing DUI case she has: information that shouldn’t be publicly available, like exact court dates, the precinct, and the car involved. (I later learned the majority of this is able to be accessed on my states court website)

Over the course of 48 hours, practically 75 additional unknown phone numbers call my mom, Unknown/Anonymous caller ID spam her inbox, plenty from VOIP services, some from burner numbers, and a few that appear to be legitimate phone numbers according to SpyDialer, FastPeopleSearch, TruePeopleSearch, WhitePages etc.

I searched every number up and about 3 yielded results online on sites like NumberGuru or 800Notes, saying that these numbers were part of a much larger web of scammers and extortionists. Someone on NumberGuru said these people tapped their phone and stole their social security number.

The ONE caller who is the only one who left voicemails, Sonia, kept accusing my mom of stealing someone’s man, and demanded money of up to $9,000 which she said was cause that guy stole money from her, and threatening to harm her if it’s not paid.

My mom received insane intimate pictures of a man and a woman together, a picture of the guy beat up bloody. The pictures of the man is a guy who actually exists and is on Facebook and lives in the same city Sonia claims to live in, his name also matches the name Sonia keeps giving us

The phone number used by Sonia was also a legitimate T-Mobile number, a 631 area code. This number is later registered on WhatsApp to attempt to harass my mom on there and also hack her

"Sonia" begins sending messages with images and videos of another woman who shares the exact same name as my mom, which further confuses the situation. The videos show the other woman being stalked basically, her walking to her car and noticing her window is broken and looking around.

Late July 2024

One voicemail is left by 631-Sonia, where she threatens my mom saying she will have someone to beat her up at next court date, these people knew the exact court date, it is very easy to access online actually.

Sonia also begins to accuse my mom of things like being involved in drugs. Sonia begins to threaten to contact the DEA on our address.

Anonymous calls keep pouring in, we could not mute or stop them so we changed her number and kept her old number on a Google Voice account to maintain it.

I keep reverse searching everything I can and eventually dig up that a lot of info was actually added on things like LinkedIn or MapQuest or Whitepages, I guess a weak attempt to social engineer us into believing half the crap Sonia was ranting about in the voicemails that doesn't even matter now. But the woman who shares the same name as my mom exists, and the selfies Sonia sent of her are actually her. I went as far as finding her personal email on EPIEOS and basically confirming it’s her email by checking the profile photo on Gmail.

We went to the police twice to report this: The first time, we were told to ignore it, that it was just a scam. The second time, the officer laughed it off, saying we needed sleep and that this was “nothing serious.” The police weren’t helpful, and we were told harassment like this is common and not worth pursuing.

August 2024

I disabled voicemail on my mom's old number to try and prevent further harassment, but it continues thru text. New threats keep coming in, now repeating the same old details—like her apartment number.

We realize that they’ve been attempting to hack her WhatsApp, since her old number stayed connected there. Sonia's 631 number tried to access her WhatsApp by sending dozens verification codes and calling her repeatedly.

Sonia or another harasser (I believe this is a group of people) also starts making attempts to hack into her Google account, sending verification codes to my mom’s phone number. They also tried to get a verification code to get into our T-Mobile account.

No one appeared at the court date to beat up my mom, me and my brother were with her like 2 bodyguards.

Ongoing

⚠️ The harasser’s behavior is escalating, and they sent a live photo, from a legitimate iPhone number, of our apartment front door

⚠️ An anonymous letter with just a return address and an alias, was sent to the District Attorney of my mom's court case, to our county's criminal court. This letter, signed, dated May 2024, makes ridiculous and very vague claims that they are a family member and my mom is a dangerous alcoholic who has driven under the influence for years and deserves the "maximum extend of the law". My mom has been crying for 2 days now because her lawyer said she can get up to 2 months of jail for this or 5 years probation. Her case was practically on its way to being thrown out until this happened.

The address of this letter, when reverse searched online, leads to Sonia, as a past tenant. To make things more confusing, the alias that signed the fraudulent letter, was mentioned in a voicemail Sonia left my mom. The alias that signed the letter is also listed as a past tenant of the co-op apartment address.

⚠️ Out of curiosity, I decided to download the call logs from T-Mobile's site and couldn't help but notice the majority of VOIP and burner numbers were all replaced by just ONE phone number instead, down the entire call log. The number is associated with “Global Crossing Local Services Inc.”

⚠️ A quick search shows this number as connected to something weird, a fictitious company in Tom's River NJ that purposely extorts and scams people with personal info, someone made a blog about how it’s SMS spoofing and voicemail hijacking. Someone also said it could be prison inmates doing this

A large majority of the calls were labeled "Call forwarded" meaning, if I'm not wrong, my mom's calls were forwarded to that 732 area code number.

⚠️ My mom received a new message from a VOIP from someone saying “Good luck in court next month ma u will need it”. Her lawyer knew about the spamming but now I let her know the letter is connected to this and will also be providing much more proof to her to prove the letter sent to the DA is meant to be an obstruction of justice

I found the Facebook and Instagram of Sonia, after a very deep dedicated dig by searching up family members and associates connected to her FastPeopleSearch profile. I’m not sure what it confirms to me but at least we can see how she looks, my mom has no idea who she is.

Also after my deep dig, I’m pretty sure Sonia runs a fraudulent tire shop. Also Sonia seems to have a history of filing lawsuits since I found 7 different lawsuits online connected to her very, very uncommon full name.

My mom is now concerned that her identity is being stolen too and I've taken every measure like freeze her credit and add 2 step verification and passkeys. I’ve actually been doing everything I can to help protect her security but I’m terrified of what they could have done to her phone. My mom’s email and number have appeared in various data leaks, including several mega leaks from Telegram this year. Not sure if this has anything to do with this.

I’m really worried about what might happen next. I thought it stopped but this court letter reignited everything. My mom has been dealing with this for months now and we’re both getting pretty scared. We’re thinking of getting a PI but that’s too complicated and using funds we don’t have. But It feels like this is more than just a scam, it’s become personal, and I do NOT think this is a case of wrong woman and is now impacting how people view my mom. Something makes me think that all of the identities and pictures that were sent, including Sonia’s, have all been stolen and they’re all unaware how their names and pics are being used. Or maybe they are in on it. I’m afraid it could escalate further.

•	How could this group have gotten all of my mom’s personal info or even her phone number from the start?
•	Any advice on how to escalate this further with the police or the FBI?

A very large Facebook group that is managed by one person went into chaos two months ago after the admin went MIA. He has been a regular on Facebook for over a decade, posting daily. This is unlike him.

He seems to have not had the easiest life and his family appears to be estranged. People are concerned for him. We know his alias/real name, his location, etc, but no one can find an obituary for him and there are no court records under either of his names.

A white pages listing has him moving out of his last place in July, so there's no current address.

Just curious what you guys would do in this situation. I feel like if people are really that concerned they can just call the police for the town he is in and tell them all of this and let the police decide if there needs to be a welfare check. But it's also just a Facebook group.

on 11/14/24 between appx 7:45-10:36pm, Two guys burgled the home of a friend/neighbor who recently died young by accident. They took everything from his home: clothes, cameras, stereo, records, furniture, art, all the stuff his poor little son was supposed to get. I have some video of their cars approaching the house and leaving. Their cars are a mid 2000's Ford Focus hatchback, and a 2005-2010 Toyota Scion TC. I feel like I'm really close to reading the plate on the second car, the Scion. I think the first digit is 7 and it ends in 91, possibly 591. But I've enhanced and squinted and guessed as best I can. I tried some online license reader software but it was useless.

Here's what I've got. I'm trying to get more from my neighbors but so far this is the only stuff that might get us the plates.

I was in my local food store and a guy much older than me (I'm in my late 20s) comes up to me and asked if I was someone because looked like her and he claims his friend knows her. I told him I wasn't her and made the joke that it was funny that I never had a doppelgänger. I was being nice and was about to end the conversation when he started asking me my name, if I'm from the area, where I grew up, where I went to high school and when I graduated there and college. At first I thought he was just making conversation and just being nice but then out of nowhere, someone like I said much older than me asked me to come hangout with him. I said "No I'm good" and then I walked away. I didn't want to be rude but I started to get uncomfortable and wondered if that was a trafficking tactic to get me to go with him. What is everyone's thoughts? Was this trafficking or just a strange encounter?

Hi, yesterday I plugged in my electrical heater for use and noticed a fishy smell. I also noticed my cats paying particular attention to the socket the heater was plugged to.

Unknowingly I turned off the heater assuming it must’ve picked up some cat hair or something, while turning off the socket for good measure.

Today before turning it on again I looked up fish smell and found out that it was due to burned electrical components. To my shock when I went to remove the plug it was stuck tight. So much so that I thought better to just leave it. I also removed devices stuck to the remaining sockets nearby.

I’m planning to call an electrician as soon as I can but it’s the weekend and my choices here are limited. Are we in real danger if it’s unplugged and turned off?

He told me that he told his irl friends and that the guy is MIA now but it’s not enough. I reported him to cybertip but haven’t received any calls or anything. They both have multiple victims.

3 days ago in the early morning, said person wrote a suicide note and left their house. They took (at least) a navy jacket and an iphone with no service. Police have investigated but on the second day of disappearance, it rained.

Police dogs were able to track their scent to the woods behind the house but not further than that. They are unable to take more drastic action because said person is over 18.

I suspect that they have fled far on foot, and are hiding somewhere while intending to starve themselves until the end. Clearly, there is limited time to act. Please, if you have any idea how to find said person please help me.

Thank you for everyone who offered help. He has been found nearby and unfortunately the news isn't good. The autopsy will likely confirm that he passed of hypothermia.

I am filipino and from the Philippines and I have been witth my dog for nearly 7-8years now. He was stolen from our family last november 8. I am deperate in looking for him because he is like a brother to me now. We managed to get CCTV footage from when he was stolen but cannot manage to make out the plate number.

Is there a way to make the footage more clear just for me to make out the plate number of the dognapper?

(SOLVED) Every other day I receive calls from inmates across the country. I’ve gotten calls from Texas, Nevada, Illinois, everywhere but I don’t know why. The most I’ve ever gotten anyone to say is that I’m “written down.” What the hell does that even mean. I usually just decline the calls but I’ve been letting them go through and they usually aren’t talkative and won’t tell me why I get calls and proceed to just hang up. What could this be? Edit: Let me also let you know I looked up the phone numbers and they come up to actual prisons, jails, and camps for incarcerated peoples. Update: Called one of the prisons and found out some service to help prisoners connect with attorneys had my number listed as an attorney for sex related crimes. Nice!

Hi all, new here so forgive me as this may be lengthy. This investigation has been years running and I'm finally deciding to ask for help as I've hit another dead end.

Backstory (per my mother's retelling)-

When my parents arrived to the US in the early 80s (before I was born), they lived in an apartment building here in NYC where they eventually befriended a neighbor, an older French lady by the name of Anne. Anne was especially gracious to my family while they were struggling, buying gifts and clothes for my siblings who were quite young at the time, and eventually even offering my mother (who spoke very little english at this point) a simple job of cleaning her apartment. This was a giant help of course, and they grew very fond of each other. My mom was quite homesick, and Anne became somewhat of a mother figure who was especially loving towards the kids. At the time, my aunt also lived nearby and in casual conversation, mentioned Anne had had a daughter around my mother's age named Catherine, who she regularly had seen around the building when she lived there. Mom had no idea, as Anne never mentioned anything about this lost daughter or have any photos displayed in the apartment. My guess was it was too painful given what my aunt mentioned next. Catherine was a young, beautiful but rebellious girl who had been killed by her partner along with her two year old son in December of 1980. My mom naturally never brought this up to Anne. As nice as she was, she was not particularly an open book. There was only one instance while cleaning she stumbled on a photo tucked away in a drawer of Catherine, but it ended there. Years went by, Anne retired and moved to Florida, and passed a few years later. She had only left my parents a single request before she left NY and that was to please tend to her daughter's grave. Her ex husband had moved back to France and remarried, and she had no one left in the city. My parents never had the heart to cash the monthly checks she sent but kept their promise regardless.

I learned about this years ago and it haunted me for a while. I admit, it got a little obsessive because I was so enraged on Catherine's behalf. I needed to know more and decided to take to the internet and see if I could find anything on the case. I knew it would be rough searching for a murder case from the 80s in NYC given how unfortunately common that was for the time period (Fear City and all), but I ended up finding significantly less than I expected. It was like this poor girl and her baby didn't exist. All I've found is record of the family getting here from France in the 60s and then hit a dead end.

I've scoured ancestry, online archives, family search...literally everything. If I hadn't been to her grave in person regularly, I'd think I was chasing a ghost. Recently I made a significant breakthrough through a newspaper archive which gave me the name of her accused partner and a report regarding his transfer to a low security psychiatric facility being denied due to his mental state. He was diagnosed schizophrenic and was known to be "explosive" and "unpredictable". The details about the murder on this tiny article were very hard to stomach and it only gave me another boost to keep searching for more. I can only assume he plead insanity or was found incompetent to stand trial and they called it a day on this case.

As far as requesting information from the city - my options are limited, as this wasn't a direct family member so I can't even request a death certificate for either victim. And more importantly - Catherine's child is not listed on her tombstone. What's really getting to me is confirming where this baby is buried, and hoping he's rightfully resting with his mother.

So I'm hoping for ideas, help researching online (glad to dm details if you'd like to help), anything really. Something is clawing at me and I feel like I need to look into this further. This is personal and emotional for my mother, who owes that debt of gratitude to her friend who helped her get on her feet. Any assistance is welcome and so very appreciated. Thank you for reading.

I'm collecting the progress made from comments here and further research. Updates:

• So far no luck with getting a second picture from neighbours doorbell cams, which would be the best outcome. I've posted across local FB groups and the Next Door app.
• I've suggested he see if the road works are still going on as /u/nl325 pointed out that most road works have traffic cams in case something happens while they work.
• We think the orginal photo was zoomed in or cropped as its a weird size. I've explained this and asked if he can get the original via google drive. He insists it is the orginal. Tbh, he's a bit downtrodden about it all and isn't enjoying talking about it. Its the 1st new car he's ever owned and he didn't have it long. The Mechanic says they will have to cut the whole rear corner out and rebuild it, so the car is a real mess.

• A few people searched for NX11 E number plates and found a few matches, but..
• Checking out the website and social media of the suspect company turns up photos of their other trucks. Not the Ford we are looking for, but their plates of their vehicles are ALL RX plates which is very close to what we're seeing in the blurred image.

• They also have a FB page with the same photos on it, but FB links aren't allowed here.
• RX plates are registered in Reading, not too near Seaford and quite a cooincidence that this company has an identical vehicle in thier yard which almost certainly has an RX plate on it.
• Some users have said that they'll just deny it was them and it'll go nowhere, but if we're able to get a snap of the rear of the vehicle i believe the red sticker and scuff marks on the back will align and provide enough evidence to get the police or insurance company to take it further, or to make them prove where that van was at that time and date in small claims court.

Hi everyone! I’m coming for any sort of explanation because I am a bit freaked out. In short, I facetime called my partner at 10:31 pm last night and he did not answer the phone. I then went to bed. At 1:36 am I received a facetime call from my partner asking if I was okay. At 1:35 he accepted a FaceTime call that came from my contact and it was 31 seconds of heavy breathing and no image on the other line. My call log has no history of an outgoing call, no one is currently home, and there is no possible way this call came from my phone- but it did come from my number. The first thing I did was change my Apple password but there was no record of me being logged in on a device that isn’t mine. He did not receive my call at 10:31 but that doesn’t explain the breathing or a call popping up later.

Hey! I’m doing some general research into web sleuths and the people behind them, I’d love to chat with anyone that’s helped people solve crimes/mysteries through pages like this or over the internet. Sooo, I've been getting this call from the same damn number. I know y'all are just going to tell me to block it, but like, it's just weird. The first time I called I missed it then I answered it the next two times; when I did that all I heard was driving. I yelled so maybe if they were driving they'd here me, but nothing. I can't remember if I hung up or they did. This has been going on since the middle of October. They leave voicemails, and it's all just them driving still; most of them being 11 seconds but two bring 13 seconds. The number is also from my area code, but if I look up the number on Whitepages it says it's a landline and that there is no owner found... I have tried calling it before but it doesn't have a connection. The calls are also always at different times.

For the last couple of years I have been trying to get my hands on my Great Grandfathers, Enrico Filippini, ' 'Foglio Matricolare' or military file from Italy. My main objective out of all of this is just to know what he did during the Great War. I know of his life here in the United States but no one in the family knows of his military service. Well, let me start off with some facts...

-I have a copy of his birth certificate, so I know for a fact his birth location, province, parents, birth date and birth name are accurate (unless it was typed wrong)

- born to Raffaele Filippini and Tobia Fortunata on April 2nd 1895 in Serra Sant'Abbondio

-would have arrived in the US in 1914, New York and left for Italy in 1915 later arriving back in the US after

the war in 1919.

-I have a picture of him in his uniform, so I know he served... me, not being an Italian WW1 Uniform expert by any means, I had multiple people of varying degrees of expertise look at his picture and they came up with the following assumptions...

1. almost everyone agrees his uniform hat is a basic infantry hat ... but now the confusion comes in.
2. people were split on his pants because he had pockets on the sides and they were tailored high and tight as if he was in a cavalry unit or an officer
3. everyone believes his boots were alpine or mountain boots the way they are wrapped
4. his coat has pockets which they believed were mostly reserved for NCO's or Officers and his lapel has some sort of insignia or metal on it but it is hard to tell

With that said, when I first contacted the archives from the province he was born in, they told me he was on their 'Liste di Leva' with a date of 1/12/1915. They told me to contact the Regional Archives which I did. Long story short, I contacted the village archives, Province archives, Regional Archives, General Army Archives in Rome and Rome State Archives all coming back with negative results. I would assume (and they as well) either he wasn't an officer or his record was lost, damaged or misplaced.

In any case, he was born in Pesaro e Urbino. The closest unit to where he was born was Brigata Pesaro 239th/240th Regiment. They in turn along with Brigata Grosseto eventually formed the 52nd Alpini Division. I feel like that might explain the possible mismatch of the uniform? There are a few other Regiments and Cavalry units I could mention but they are further away from his hometown than the one I previously mentioned.

Now, is it safe to assume he would have possibly been in the 239/240 Regiment and then the 52nd Alpine Division? Is there some other archive I should contact or website I should look at? I am at a complete loss and really don't know where else to look for information.

I have tried other subs like askhistorians and militaryhistory but to no avail. I figured the people who solved the most mysterious song might be able to give me a hint here? I know that it could be a possibility he might be wearing something other than a military uniform or there could be a completely different story behind this picture but in the end I appreciate anyone and everyone's help with whatever hint or bit they can give me.
