My name means "Wise Counselor" and I want to know what it is in Quenya. But I'm not capabele enough to translate it so I hope you guys are

Whole phrase I want to have translated is "the unexpected gift", but I know "gift" is "anna", so that's the easy part. And the adjective goes first, so the phrase would be i ??? anna, right?

I need an adjective, not a noun "surprise". Anything meaning "unexpected" or "surprising" seems impossible to find. Best I got was this post but the author of the comment isn't sure of that, and I would probably mess up making the negation anyway, because I don't know Quenya.

Reason I need it: Title for a fanfic, also the name of a ship in it. The name probably should have the adjective+nound glued together into one word? Elven names seem to work like that.

Context (in case this makes a difference): Positively unexpected, eucatastrophe-like. Like in that moment when Fingon was ready to shoot Maedhros to save him from suffering and suddenly Eagles and he realized he can just cut Maedhros's hand instead. Like when Elwing jumped to drown herself but suddenly Ulmo gave her wings. This kind of emotional energy.

I'm not feeling entitled to a super-precise translation or anything, I hope I don't sound like that. I add those details in case there were more than one word matching the general meaning.

So my wife and I are having a daughter in a few months and just have had no luck picking out a name we each like. I'm looking for inspiration but not entirely sure on how to go about putting a name together. Quenya seems the easier option over Sindarin. Is it supposed to be noun-adj. Or the other way around? Can I take a noun and just add -iel or -ien to it?

So far the ones I've come up with I think are close to accurate would be Eleniel (daughter of the stars) Annalena (gift of the stars) Elenya (middle star)

Also can you use two nouns or is that a no no? I know I can technically do whatever we find that we like but for accuracy sake? Example being... Elanna (star-gift)

Any help of insight would be appreciated.

A friend of mine has asked me whether it would be possible to translate the following sentence into any Elven language:

"Only bent does the bow show its strength" which is my translation of the German original "Erst gebeugt zeigt der Bogen seine Kraft."

I've decided on Quenya, and what I've got so far is:

Rië cúna quinga tanas tuorya (I've specifically tried not to use Neo-Elvish words.)

Since this is for a tattoo, I really want to be as accurate as possible. Could you possibly help me out on this? I've never actually translated before, and I'm particularly unsure about the adverb "rië", the position of "cúna", and the inflection of the verb "tana-".

So I’ve got a tattoo on my wrist of the Quenya word Firë (mortal man/the sun), that I use to both amplify and humble myself. And this year I’m hoping to expand the theme and spiral some personally meaningful words from that base point all the way up my arm, creating an elvish sleeve. I've found it pretty funny that I haven't been able to find a source on how to say that.

I'm still relearning a lot so I'm not very sure of a lot of things. I stopped trying to translate the phrase when I realized I was still figuring out if prepositions 'map' in Quenya the same way they do in the languages I know.

I found "lambelanga-" and "pahtalanga-" for "translate (speech)". So I'm thinking the first half (third?) would be "X ambelangaina... {somethingsomething} eldarin " or "X pahtalangaina... {somethingsomething} eldarin" ?. [these feel like very convoluded ways of saying it, i.m.o.]

At that point, my brain freezes cuz I still have lots of reading to do.
What do y'all think?

Been attempting to use Elfdict to translate my silly or my fool (more commonly used in Tolkien vocabulary) for a ring inscription for my partner (we are fans of the movies and books but not language specialists.)

Through the website for Quenya I got aut = fool and -nya = my as a suffix. Would I be correct in suggesting 'autnya' would mean 'my fool'?

I also attempted to do this is Sindarin, fôf = fool and en = my as a suffix. Thus 'my fool' would be fôfen

Would love some help and opinion on this!

I was recently translating some old poetry into Quenya, and ran into the English "bright-headed", and I realized I had no idea how to approach this without constructing something clunky.

I think I have the root figured (cálala + cás = "shining-head") but I can't seem to find any information about a possible case ending or particle to add here.

In the spirit of it being poetry, I was hoping to try to keep from turning it into a whole phrase (e.g., háryala alcarinqua cás = ”having a radiant head") if there's a simpler way to inflect it.

I've been reading through The Silmarillion and have been loving all the quotes from various characters in Quenya. I'm thinking about getting a couple tattoos, with the left arm saying "Now comes the night. Day shall come again!", and on the right arm "The night is passing! The day has come!"

I think there are three out of four sentences above that are already in Quenya in the books, but the only that I can't seem to find in the books or online is "Now comes the night", which is a quote from Turin before he dies. Wondering if there is a reliable translation for this quote.

I understand that Quenya is still developing and these translations may not be fully accurate, but this may be a fun project to embark on.

Hello, I studied a bit of Quenya but have some trouble with word creation. I’ve seen that «Moon» would be "Isil/Ithil" and «child» is "hina". But how could I translate "Moon-child" or "Child of the Moon"? Would it be "Isilhina"?
