Hi, so this year I completed my first year of my bachelor of regional planning degree at UQ. However, I did not enjoy it at all and it was not what I wanted to do in the first place. I’ve been meaning to switch to architecture but I’m not sure whether to stay at UQ or transfer to QUT. From what I’ve heard from friends and some others, QUT has the better program but can someone please confirm whether that is the case or not? Thank you
There’s a lot of dates online and I have no idea which one it is, anyone have an inkling of when I need to enrol by?
EDIT: they replied to me a day later and let me register so it's all good now 😸
hello everyone, unfortunately i missed the cut off date for grad registration (i thought it was on tuesday but it was actually on monday) and now i cant log in into the portal. i've emailed qut ceremonies about it and they said they'll get back within 5 business days.
i was wondering if this has happened to anyone and if they were able to register after the cut off date because this is stressing me out lowkey and i just want to be reassured 😭 thanks yall
Has anyone received RTP scholarship for Engineering dept?
Hey all, I’m interested in applying for civil engineering next year at QUT. As I’m working full time, it will be part time study. I just wanted to get my head around how many contact hours will I be required to come in for? As I will be balancing this with a full time job and potentially a FIFO roster. Cheers
Hi, I'm a 25-year-old living in Brisbane. I originally studied a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition) and then studied Music. Over the years, I’ve completed around 15 short courses, hoping to improve my resume. Despite my efforts, I’ve never worked a professional job and have been stuck in hospitality since I was 18, juggling 2-3 jobs but barely earning $30k annually.
About a year and a half ago, I started working as a private music tutor teaching voice, which felt like a step forward. However, after doing my tax return, I realized I was only making about $5k more than I did in hospitality.
Recently, I applied for a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) because the prospect of earning even $50k a year felt like a significant improvement. I believed SLP was a stable, hireable, and flexible career choice.
But after reading Reddit discussions, I’ve become discouraged by comments describing it as monotonous, repetitive, with limited career progression and a salary cap. I have been told several times that it is not enough money to survive and it is an unreasonable career choice.
I was declined a spot in the program and then offered a place into the master’s program at UQ last week with just two days' before the course started, and now I’m overwhelmed with anxiety about whether I’ve made the right decision. My partner suggests I drop it and consider teaching, and Google keeps pointing me towards engineering or IT, but the forums I read seem to paint a bleak picture of every profession. Teaching appears to pay more, but it also has its own challenges.
I feel stuck. I want a career with opportunities to grow and evolve into new areas. As a creative person, I’m not sure what direction to take, I am having cold feet about my course and even my partner is sick of listening to me.
Hi
i'm planning to apply for bachelor of nursing at QUT. anybody who did this recently or anybody whose currently doing this tell me whether qut is good for nursing.
i am doing a double degree and was set to graduate at the end of sem 1 next year. i unfortunately failed a unit this semester which is not available in semester 1… is it possible to apply for an early exit for one of my degrees next semester, then apply to study again and complete the second degree in sem 2?
I’m currently planning my units for Semester 1, 2025, but I’ve run into a problem whereby one of the core units is showing as unavailable in Semester 1 and only offered in Semester 2. This completely messes up my timeline, as I was relying on taking this unit in my final semester to graduate as scheduled, and I have been following the course structure throughout my course. Are there alternative ways to address this, like substituting the unit?
Anyone have experience regarding tech requirements / recommendations?
Brand recommendations? Integrated or dedicated graphics? 16gb ram or higher? cpu recommendations?
Anything helps, thank you.
I'm studying online next year going into double degree Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Mathematics, and have noticed a significant number of clashes with the units for online. In semester 1, I'm likely going to study MXB101,105 and 106 in semester 1, and MXB103,107 and 161 in semester 2 due to my alternate study plan (hasn't been approved by faculty yet).
In the timetables, QUT You works fine, but for both 2 sessions (Tuesday/Wednesday), workshops for 2 units occur at the same time unfortunately; MXB101 and 105, and MXB101 and 106. Any ideas? I would assume I only have to attend one of the MXB101 ones, but could I swap around between the 105 and 106 workshops every 2 weeks?
I'm studying engineering next year at QUT, and have been told that some more modern Macs arent compatible with some of the needed software. I was looking at an M4 pro but am unsure if i need something else. If anyone could help or recommend laptops it would be great :)
I'm in master degree, and failed an unit in my first semester. I want take 5 units in next semester. Does it need to give some reasons on email? or just say I want to graduate on time?
Have you received your outcome yet and what faculty are you in
Participants are currently needed for a Queensland University of Technology (QUT) research project on myopia (short-sightedness). The study involves two sessions (approx. 1-2 hrs each) at Q-block at the Kelvin Grove campus of QUT.
We would like to invite healthy 18- to 30-year-old individuals with normal vision (no/minimal prescription) or short-sightedness (minus prescription) who are of East Asian and/or South East Asian racial backgrounds to take part in the study.
All participants will receive a $50 gift card (Coles or Woolworths group) at completion of their involvement in this project.
If you are interested in participating or have any questions, please contact Julie Lee (j269.lee@hdr.qut.edu.au), or use the following link to a secure online form on Google Forms https://forms.gle/g6vkRw6jkNj3SDsb9 (also available through the QR code below) to leave your contact details so that we can contact you with more information.
Please note that this study has been approved by the QUT Human Research Ethics Committee (approval number 7268).
Hey guys, I’m in my final semester of my nursing degree and I understand grades aren’t released until tomorrow but I have received an A grade while a huge majority of my cohort have already received their “S” grade and invitations to graduation. The subject in question is NSB335 (the 8 week prac subject).
Should I just be patient? This was my only subject this semester and I’m starting to worry a little. There is absolutely no reason why I shouldn’t have passed. I’ve only missed 1 day (8 hours) of placement throughout the entire degree.
Anxiety is getting to me tbh!
How do I improve my grades overall?
I am just below getting a 6 for all my subjects, except a handful. I do all the things - attend classes, revision, templates, practise exams etc etc. is it just a time thing and getting better at applying? I dunno, I just wanna be better and I’m stressing myself out.
Hi all, I need help with applying for advanced standing…
I was previously enrolled in ID18 double degree (architecture/construction management), where I completed 12 units, and I recently switched to AB05 (architecture) after chatting to the course co-ordinator. She told me to apply for advanced standing for the subjects I did for CM to fill my “electives” credits. I tried to do it via the advanced standing website but it’s not working or I’m not doing it properly….
Hey Guys,
My results were released yesterday. These are the last two subjects of my degree and this has never happened until now. This means I would graduate so I'm just seeking some advice to see whether these are indeed final grades or may still change.
Not only does it say it on HiQ, but it also shows when I download my unofficial transcript.
Hi guys!
This year I enrolled into a double degree (Bachelors of Law and Biomedical Science).
Last semester I completed “Introduction to Biomedical Science” and received a 6.
I have also been charged around $1000 for this unit and of course, is now added to my HECS debt.
My issue is that I’ve decided to drop Law and do a single degree of Biomedical Science instead.
I’ve been accepted into my single degree for next year.
However, “Introduction to Biomedical Science” has been removed and replaced with the “QUT You” course.
My course credits and distinction grade have not transferred over because now it doesn’t exist.
Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation before? Did QUT honour the previous course completion?
So I failed Networks which I expected and got an Unsatisfactory for a QUT you unit which was unexpected. According to the course structure for the Bach Of IT, I'm supposed to be doing stuff like intro to enterprise systems, discrete structures and software development according to the course structure. I can't attend the summer program cause I will going on a family holiday and I am now freaking out of cause of this and don't think I will graduate, any advice?
Hi, I’m an international student currently studying for my Master’s in Australia. This is my first semester, but I failed one of my units (44/100). I'm not very familiar with the policies of Australian universities. Does anyone know what the consequences might be, and how to solve this problem? Any advice or tips from people who’ve been through this? thanks
Hey!!! I’m currently enrolled in bachelors of nursing degree that started this july. I just saw that qut offers dual degrees with nursing (psych or public health). Is it worth it?? And if it is, how do i go about enrolling in that considering im already enrolled in my current degree?
does anyone else find the new graduation ticket prices obsurd??
If you select academic history it shows.
Hi all,
Looking to study a Masters of IT next year (interested in software development but not heaps of experience).
I've been offered places at QUT, UQ and Griffith uni and am wondering how people's experience at QUT is as it's the course I am most interested in.
Is it true that it's quite a practical course at QUT? What are some positives and negatives of your experience there?
Any input would be greatly appreciated :)
Starting second year of aerospace & electrical engineering in Feb 2025, anyone else here majoring in this also?
Hey guys, I’m about to begin studying computer science and plan to continue with a masters in cyber security afterwards. Just wondering when I should apply for the masters and if there’s some kind of benefit to doing it earlier rather than a couple years down the track or at the end of my course?
Cheers
i just got an early offer into behavioural science. has anyone had any experience in this course? does anyone have any key points or stuff? like is it good, is it hard etc
