Hi,
I am considering doing a PhD after completing a Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) and was curious as to whether I am interpreting the entry requirements for a PhD correctly.
To my understanding from the UQ website, you need to have either a cumulative GPA across your entire degree of Honours Class IIA or higher or demonstrate 'research preparedness'. The webpage I saw stated that completed courses that aim to develop research skills would qualify you for a PhD: would courses like SCIE3260 or SCIE3010 count for this? (Would it be a good or bad idea to take courses like SCIE3260 and SCIE3010 in the same semester?)
I noticed you can also complete a "supervised research project that includes an individually graded written report with a combined minimum course volume equal to #4 units" that would also qualify you for a PhD: would this relate to a built-in Honours year? Or something else?
Thank you!
I’m an intl student. I’m tryna get to know people (locals and intl) cos it’s daunting moving to a new country. Also idk what’s going on and I feel lost
Hi, currently a second year student having trouble understanding whether admissions/QTAC takes my GPA or my original ATAR into consideration in my situation? I’m wanting to switch degrees but have been given mixed information. I have completed 14 units (so under a full year of study) and have therefore been told that regardless of program I should apply for the new degree I want through QTAC and only my original ATAR will be used for eligibility. However the ‘tertiary studies selection rank’ pdf given to me (and accessible on Google) has a first graph with information making me worried they’ll use my GPA from this original degree converted to a less than ideal selection rank (this degree was definitely not for me) and they’d go with that instead which would leave me likely ineligible for my new degree. If anyone has any experience or knowledge on this type of thing before I’d greatly appreciate any help because everyone I call has been giving me the run around.
Does uq math grade on bell curve?(e.g. limiting the number of hd
Hiya! Has anyone gotten any acceptances for courses such as social work, criminology and criminal justice?
Hi all... It's my last semester and I feel so defeated... Failed a core course last year that I am re-taking and I feel like I'm on the same path? The content load is sooo heavy and we only get tested once - on an EoS 50% HURDLE exam. I'm sitting on a 6 atm thanks to assignments, but all that could be for nothing if I don't pass the exam.. I just don't get how you can either get a "6 or 7" or a 3 ... WTH? :(
I am of the *neurospicy* variety, and recalling content from 40 hours of lectures, and many more of readings, just doesn't happen that easily... Just thinking about the fact that I have to be able to recall all of that info in a 1 hour and 20 minute exam makes my mind go blank with panic and overwhelmment.
I don't know that I necessarily have a question, more so a call out to others who may be going through the same thing - so that I don't feel so alone in my panic T^T
Hi! I’ll be taking the Bachelor of Computer Science majoring in Machine Learning (3 years) at UQ, and I’m curious about what the learning experience is like. Are there any projects, like a final-year project (FYP)? If there’s no official FYP, do you think there are projects we can work on ourselves to create something similar?
Also, do the assignments relate closely to what we learn in lectures? I’ve heard that sometimes assignments don’t fully align or make sense. Was it difficult to score well?
I’ve also heard mixed opinions about studying at UQ like some people say not to go there so I’m a bit worried about starting my degree. Was it worth it for you to study this major at UQ? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Hey guys can I change psychologists after the first appointment or I have to stick to the psych?
Hi guys, I really wanna apply for vacationer programs next year and currently have a GPA of 6.4, I was wondering if this is too low for getting in if I'm an international student and its so incredibly competitive. I do work multiple jobs in the industry so, what do you guys think, am I in the clear or am I unlikely to land something?
Hi so im currently in year 12 and hopefully studying pharmacy at uq in 2025, I just had a couple of question:
- Is the guaranteed atar a real thing? Like am I actually guaranteed an offer if my atar is above 80 and ive passed chem and English?
- Does a pass in chem, require a pass for my externals or just over a 50/100
- How is pharmacy at UQ? Is it worth it/fun? Also, should I pursue a master’s degree and go for academia/research? I’m interested in doing that type of stuff but not sure if it’ll be worth it.
Thank you 😊 any comments would be much appreciated.
I plan on studying abroad at UQ through a program, I’m from the US. My advising center is being a bit difficult and needs the course syllabi for the courses I plan to take, many marine or wildlife courses. I tried to look them up but can’t find any. Any advice or do I need to email UQ to get them?
Because I couldn't comprehend anything the teacher taught me. She spoke so slow and the way she taught did not create inspiration for me to study this course. Furthermore, all the slides do not contain enough information and the recordings of the lectures are from the Covid era.
I consider myself not a lazy student and this course is the only one among four courses I enrolled in this semester in which I have a problem.
For context, I started my degree in a bachelor of arts majoring in psych (UQ). When I was in my final semester, I finally decided what I actually wanted to do career wise (computer science).
I'm set to graduate in Sem 1 next year, but my academic transcript is really bad. I failed two subjects and got mostly 5s with a few 4s and 6s. I took 2 semesters off and overall it just looks really inconsistent and awful. I think I also got an academic progression alert when I was studying part time for a semester.
I'm considering applying for a bachelor of science (computer science) at UQ, however, I'm wondering if I'm better off going to a different uni like QUT so I can get a clean academic record?
I'm concerned that having a poor transcript for my first degree will reflect badly at my job interviews even if it's not related to my field once i graduate with a Bachelor of computer science.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I have applied for my first extension and got it granted. It’s still due tomorrow but the original due date has passed. Will it still be possible for my second extension to be granted? And can I apply for a third one later?
I'm a year 12 student in Queensland, Australia. Our applications to uni's are still open and you can still change your preferences. I thought this meant that I had extra time to think about what I wanted to do, so I put engineering as my first preference which i still wouldnt mind. Now when I finally realised that I wanna be a doctor and I have the atar to do it, I cant because you need a UCAT score from the year you apply for University of Queensland. UCAT ANZ is already closed, so I cant take the test.
My atar is valid for 2 years after I graduate, but i think you can only do provisional entry if you are a current year 12 student. But then I ask well what if a student were to take a gap year then apply for MD, so surely you can do MD at UQ even if not straight out of school as long as you have a ucat and atar. Should I start the first year of my engineering degree then just apply for medicine next year? Can you do that without doing graduate entry?
Also i dont even know how the MD works, i think you have to complete a bachelor degree anyways before starting the MD? so you cant even do it the year after you finish school? What is the point of provisional entry then, you still need the gpa average anyways.
Im really confused, i just emailed my career counselor from school but i want to know from you guys.

I'll be pursuing my degree at UQ next feb but im still confuse to choose between data science and ML as a major, the thing is that I like the concept of ML but im afraid the maths that I have to take is too much for me as I'm not great with maths (the addmaths and calculus side) tho I know it is essential for ML. I dont know much about data science at UQ so what differ these two at UQ ? Need help and suggestions thank you !!
Hey guys, this is my first sem at UQ and failing STAT7203 is a possibility, just curious to know what the process is like? - do I have to write a supplementary exam? do I repeat the course? am I supposed to pay for it again?
I got a $120 parking fine today… why did they up the price so much? I don’t understand why and now I can’t afford groceries for a week :(
Hi! I'm thinking of transferring to UQ into the science program. I have a bit of background in chemistry/biology and was deciding on what major I would do. What are your thoughts on the public health major or food science and nutrition major? They both seem quite interesting and I'm not sure which one to pick.
Any insights on both the majors and how well they're taught/ how easy assessments are / content difficulty would be appreciated!
Thank you so much :)
PLEASE add more style to the hoodie. uq have their own pattern right, why not use that design on the hoodie
I have selected two master's. One is environmental health science & second is public health. Which one would be the best in UQ? can anyone tell me? and another thing is I am a foreign student. Will I be able to get jobs to support myself in Brisbane?
as the title says.
i'm wanting to transfer from a BEcon to BA and can't find any info about if there's any requirements... I know it's more common to transfer from a BA to something else so maybe that's why ?
Hi, I'm looking to do OT at UQ, though I'm worried I won't be able to get in with solely atar (personally predicting a 94 atar from my exams right now, entry threshold is at 95) and am wondering what's the best bachelors to do first before transferring in? I am debating between Psychology and Health Science (although none of them really speak to me) and my backup plan has always been doing a nursing and midwifery double degree as that's more my interests/passion. What is the chances that if I take nursing/midwifery I can maintain a high GPA to go into OT? Is it worth doing Psychology first? (I saw that some courses overlap) or a much easier degree for my first year? I did see the admission of OT (Hons) was majorily from higher education, so I'm wondering if I could get some advice :) Thank you!
Hello UQreddit,
I just used my one-off discretionary deferral to defer an online quiz I forgot to take last Friday. However, just before I deferred, I panicked and opened the quiz accidentally for a few seconds lol. Would my deferral request get denied because of this?
Currently studying chem eng but I just wanted to know which units would go into analytical chemistry, environmental health, and specifically the topics of heavy metals. I really want to know more about this stuff and didn't want to skip over such a course incase it's a breadth elective or something. Thanks
I'm an incoming international med student. I have emailed UQ Res and they told me I'm too far down the waitlist, even though I thought that I had submitted the waitlist application pretty early.
To those who have managed to get a room in UQ Res, how early did you apply for the waitlist?
If you appeal and your appeal is unsuccessful what are the implications?
im about to enter my third year of a BA and i still have room for some general electives. im considering either one or both of PSYC2030 or PSYC2311. does anyone who has done either course have any insight into either of them? what the workload is like, what the profs are like, assignments, etc. thank you!
