I started playing POE2 after binge-watching the first one and I was really excited, the game looks incredible. I did everything I had to do on the first island and went to the pirate fort, when I got there my game started to stutter every 5 seconds, I tried leaving the graphics at minimum, turning vsync on and off, limiting fps to 30, 45, 60. Not even restarting the game or the PC makes it stop. I tried to go back to the initial island and the crash continues, even though I had gone through it all with high fps without a single drop.
RTX 3050 8gb
i5 9400f
16gb ram
the game is installed on an ssd
I recorded a video showing the situation, even when stopped or during dialogues the fps continues to drop
Hey guys! So I’m plays POE 1 for the first time, my party is level 11 and finally doing the white march DLC, i go into Galvino’s cabin and I was trying to figure out where to go so I had to look up a guide, apparently there is supposed to be a lever in the workroom but even with a mechanics of 12 I don’t see it? It did tell me I was high level for the area when I started the dlc so I said yes to up the difficulty, idk if that affects that or not, is it a bug? Should I just reload?
Hi! Like many, I'm currently looking at the PoE games ahead of Avowed's release. But I've actually owned them both on Steam since at least 2018 (based on my gameplay history for the first one), and I've tried playing the first one a few times including in 2018 and 2024. I always get a few hours in and stall out around the first village.
I love games with rich lore, worldbuilding, stories, and characters, and everything I hear about this series indicates it would fit those metrics. But the gameplay / format felt like a strange combination of primitive/throwback and more updated even the first time I played it, and even moreso in 2024.
Maybe after getting more into the series I'll be able to give that one another try, but for now I would love to know:
Some examples include the way NPC conversations often start with voiced lines but then switch to written text, often large amounts of it - I don't mind reading lots of dialog options, lore entries, etc. in a game, but when conversations switch back and forth like this while also packing a lot of text in, my ADHD brain tunes a lot out. Similarly, the way the game has sometimes a more illustrative old school style and sometimes more animated. And the way it can feel both restrictive and super open at once - like every five feet you meet another NPC with a side quest, but it also feels like there's only so far you can go without progressing a main quest, without always feeling clear about which things feed into the main quest, how much preparation you should be doing in side quests in order to level up for the main quest at each stage, etc.
I feel like it sounds as though I need a lot of hand holding, but it's really mainly about the inconsistency across all of these designs. For example, I loved Dragon Age Origins when it was new and also when I replayed it in the last few years, and that game involves a lot of reading and doesn't always let you know where to go next or why, but it's generally pretty consistent in terms of when to expect speaking vs reading, and it never feels like the number of potential new side quests gets overwhelming or obscures what your priorities should be.
ETA: I should add that part of the problem is that the things that feel interesting each time I try it are the loftier lore / worldbuilding concepts, whereas nothing in the early quests or gameplay really pull me in, so it feels like there is something maybe worth sticking around for but I'm not really having fun.
I've been trying to make it through POE 1 ever since release. I just get bored with it after a while. I looked through my previous saves, and realized I left off at the exact sample place all three times:
I'm going to start from the beginning, again, because honestly I barely remember what was going on and I'd rather have some clue.
But it seems like no matter what I do I lose interest and move on to other games at Durgan's Battery. Does it make sense to just skip the White March expansion?
Hii Guys I started poe2 and I chose to suppress Iselmyr in the previous game because I felt bad for Aloth and how he always wanted to get rid of her. But now she hasn't appeared at all in the second game not even once!, I kinda wanna know does she have a lot of dialogue like she used to in poe1 or if we for example romance Aloth and such will she have anything interesting to say. have I messed up? Or is it not that important and I should probably do it in a next playthrough for example?
Edit: can I restore having her with console commands? Or am i screwed lol
Just got to defiance bay. First playthrough. Kinda lost on how to play well. Just realized I lost some spells retraining after collecting what grimoires I've found up to this point. This was many saves ago but after finding a few grimoires. Do I need to restart or is this not a big deal?
As the title says. I cant decide which way to start my playthrough of PoE2. What do you guys think, which way is better and why?
Hey guys, I'm stuck on The White March - Part I.
I got to Galvino's cabin and he's nowhere to be found. I explored the entire basement, killed all the constructors, gave money to a headless one, freed and killed a spirit that wanted to kill Galvino but he doesn't show up. Also, I can't get into Durgan's Battery. I already talked to Beregan, and she let me go. Here's what appears when I interact with the gate to Durgan's Battery and the cabin without Galvino.
So I've been trying to find builds for the companions in deadfire, but outside of vague fextralife, a steam user that might be out of date and has some scary build ideas, and an FAQ on gamefaqs, I can't find anything else. Does anyone have any suggestions on places I could find some, or if any of the three I've approximately noted are sufficiently reliable for normal gameplay?
The amount of zoomers only finding out about these two games years after release and absolutely falling in love with them is just sad. You practically can't find Pillars unless you're actively looking for it, even creators like Mandalore or Warlockracy don't mention it too often.
Hello I am having trouble importing my save. I play on steam deck so this is all Linux. I have found the game complete save and verified that the save version reads “2” in a text editor.
I have also copied the save from the POE1 directory to where POE2 stores its local and cloud saves.
Any other ideas?
I posted about 3 weeks back saying I'd wished I'd played these games sooner. Just finished PoE 1, some 90 hours in.
I'm totally blown away. Took a chance on this series I and couldn't be happier that I did. Fantastic plot, unique writing, and while it's easy to hate everyone's favorite >!racist grandpa, Durance!<, I found myself not necessarily liking him but respecting his indomitable spirit and character arc.
Started Deadfire and am already appreciating all the quality of life improvements. I do enjoy reading, but after nearly 4 solid real time days it's nice to have more voice overs 😅
Trying to beat this at some 90% completion before Avowed officially drops, but I no longer care about playing day one.
Thank you Obsidian!
Title. Everywhere I go, no matter how obscure the place, even the fuckin drunkards and wenches in the brothel near the harbor apparently know how "trustworthy" I am and whatnot. Doesnt make any sense personally. I ousted Raedric only a matter of days beforehand. Nobody makes any opening statements like: "Oh its you!!" they just go: "Here's what I need help with. And you're the most reputable person around." Just seems kinda shoehorned in and convenient for the character. The writing has been pretty good so far but there's quite a few things that seem pretty trope-y for lack of a better term.
Specifically for deadfire. I typically play a cipher or a melee character.
I never use Aloth in my playthrough. But I do always use Tekehu.
I really want to play a wizard. But idk if I want to be a pure wizard. Every build I’ve looked into though is a wizard melee multiclass, but I wanted to play as a ranged caster.
Is Hierophant(cipher wizard) any good at all? I don’t know if I’d be redundant with tekehu but I’ve used him alongside an ascendant and didn’t feel redundant.
Any input would be lovely
Because apparently it’s not good to be one cause Eder is the primary fighter. But in all CRPGs I always play fighter on my first play through cause it’s the easiest class to learn the game with. EDIT: Just had an awesome head canon of me and Eder keeping score of how many things we’ve killed to see who the better fighter is like two bros having a fun competition. Double fighter goodness here I come (or 6 fighter goodness if I wanted to)
I have given this game a couple tries before and it just didn't click for me. Decided to give it another go with Avowed coming out, and this time it absolutely clicked. I put it on POTD and I think that was the major difference. Checking your bestiary for info. Eating food before a tough fight. Love it. And once the combat fell into place for me, I was able to really enjoy the story. I haven't finished so no spoilers please, but it's just awesome to see such a dark, adult world with problems that are complicated, and multi layered. The amount of times that you think you know what happened with a situation, and then get an "oh no way" moment when you learn something else. It's just really well done. Looking forward to diving into Deadfire after this. Avowed will have to wait a bit.
I got to level 13 and i'm wondering exactly how high should i level things like Diplomacy and insight. Do i need a combined 20 points in it by the end game (with party assist)? What's the highest check for each in the game?
So I want to play POE2 as a ranged chanter with an emphasis on support/backup DPS. As I understand it, troubadour is generally regarded as the best class for support because of the rapid phrase chanting.
I'm stuck, though, because I'm used to NWN and Infinity Engine games where multiclassing is part of the leveling process - you know, you play for awhile, learn your character, and then decide if you want to branch out. POE2 doesn't give you that opportunity and seems to require a commitment to a single or multiclass build before the game even starts.
I was hoping to play a Chanter with a focus on using pistols/arquebus while throwing out buffs, just a general jack of all trades for skill checks, buffs, offheals, and extra DPS via ranged attacks. It seems like Wildrhymer might be the option here, but from what I've read, the best builds are Herald based or just go pure Chanter and use a gun without a martial class contributing to damage.
Anyone have any advice? I'm a little bit frustrated, tbh, I was very excited to start this game but being asked to commit to one's core everything before encountering any mechanics or learning the systems is putting me off a bit.
About to start my Deadfire playtrough and I have a couple characters with different choices to bring in for a Path of the Damned run. Should I bring a Cipher to multiclass into a Monk or a Rogue? Or a Priest to Multiclass into either a Cipher or a Wizard?
Hello there, fellow POErs. I was wondering if perhaps anyone here had an insight - if there is POE 3 planned, or perhaps a different, but similar styled Rpg? I loved both PoEs, but I absolutely loathed the Pathfinder series. Only new ones I can see on Obsidian's website are Pentiment and Avowed. Thanks in advance!
Just getting into the game (big sale btw) but it doesn’t seem to integrate save when I manually transfer from the corresponding locations between windows and Mac both on steam. Steam cloud doesn’t work so not using that, as developers also specified I believe. So steam cloud is off, and all the same dlcs are installed for both versions.
When I run the game on Mac, it recognizes the save file but once in game, nothing is loaded except empty fields for all info/characters and can only pan view throughout level that save game was located in. Don’t know why it recognizes save game (showing proper info in the load file overview) but doesn’t load it appropriately?
So, im trying to use complete legacy creation but the new options dosnt show. The mod shows in the manager and everything seems correct. Im doing my first playthrough of PoE2 so im not sure the others mods are working yet. I have the latest version of the game trhough steam so i dont know what to do :(
Sorry for the mispelling, english is my second language and im writing this in a hurry.
played pillars 1 and 2 on launch but not since! I remember some of this worlds lore but not much on the emperor/fercönyng. I know he's going to relevant in Avowed so was wondering if theres anything mentioned of him throughout the watchers journey?
Started PoE 1 on PS4 years back, made it about halfway through White March mostly enjoying it but kinda ran out of steam for reasons I don't perfectly recall... I may have over-leveled the difficulty, or maybe just got sick of the combat. Whatever it was, I just lost that "can't wait to see what happens next" momentum that I had going for most of the game and just sorta forgot to finish it. Could even have just been getting fatigued by the worse PS4 controls (let's hope it was that but brainstorm as if it wasn't).
I remember being mostly high on the character writing (though the misogynistic cleric guy got pretty old pretty fast) and a little more ambivalent on the lore/world building.
I'm thinking about giving it another go on PC, what would you recommend in terms of approach, builds, or mods, to give me the best shot of enjoying myself all the way to the end?
