Featuring Mick Barr. This whole album is incredible, you should listen. They don't get talked about enough
A lighthearted question that I am curious about. Do many of you have metal tattoos, and if so what are they?
I’ve been planning a few tattoo ideas in the form of mixing ocean & prog themes (hello, flying whale) for some time that I want to get once I commit a little bit more to them. I love hearing how music influences us, and what better way to show something deeply meaningful to yourself than a tattoo.
Hi! I'm looking for song or album recommendations similar to Type III by Bear McCreary and Rufus Wainwright . Any recommendations would be appreciated!
What I'm looking for is: Slow and Heavy Guitar Riffs, Dramatic and/or Orchestral. These are the things I really like about that song. And that everything sounds very clean
Also really recommend that album for anyone who doesn't know it already

Strapping Young Lad was my introduction to Devin Townsend. The first song I heard was All Hail the New Flesh and I was blown away. It was so unbelievably heavy but also quite melodic and just all around completely different from any other metal band I had ever heard. City and Alien are still industrial metal masterpieces as far as I'm concerned.
From there I went into Townsend's solo stuff and quite frankly didn't enjoy it all. It's just so damn cheesy. It's like metal for dorky theater kids or something. The talent of Townsend's musical abilities are still there but musically speaking it's just not my thing at all.
Anyone else feel the same?
Grammy Award winning prog metal act Gojira?
I usually don't care about award shows and I'm sure most of you don't either. It's just so fucking awesome to see them get the recognition and success they deserve.
Prog metal is moving up in the world.
A band that I slept on for too long.
New album out now
Looking for epic prog metal songs that are super melodic, even poppy at times, and have a lot of emotion ,almost like ballads, and still have that epicness. I hope this makes sense lol.
A peculiar Prog Metal piece wit
Out of the 30+ albums he's made that I've listened to way too many times to count, he somehow makes basically every song have a point and direction. Even in the craziest of albums like Empath, deconstruction, Infinity, City, etc. There's always a precise point with anticipation, release, etc. It's really impressive and a lot of prog metal kind of beats around the bush for too long which I'm sometimes in the mood for, but the older I get the more I crave abstract music with a direction.
