Events or clubs

Hello.ive been living in preston for the last 6 years. Im a full time worker. I work 4 days a week 12hrs a day. And when i am off i literally have nothing to do except for grocery shopping, going to town, staying home. I feel like my lifestyle is very boring and not intellectually or socially challenging as i wish it to be. I'd like to be active. Try and take part into activities or clubs, meet new people, instead of being on my phone all day when im not working. But i don't know where to begin.

If anyone could help me with social clubs that meet every week, that actually do something productive, I'd be very appreciative. I am 24yrs old. I enjoy crafts, singing. And whatever. But im also an introvert. So nothing too demanding.

Please. Feels like im losing my mind staying home all day with nothing to do. I enjoy staying home doing chores. But staying home every day is making me dull. If you guys could help me out....

Restaurant Recommendation

Hi. I’m meeting up with (20M) son on Sunday, and hoping for a reasonably priced restaurant recommendation for early afternoon in Preston city centre. Both of us have been there a few times in the past, but not recently.

He is getting the train, I am driving in, so ideally within walking distance of the city centre.

A quick Google Maps search suggests The Guild (Greene King) or the New Continental (he likes roasts). He is funny about food due to autism, so probably nothing too ‘fancy’. Even Pizza Express is an option.

Any ideas?

One day trip

I stay in Preston, Lancashire. Planning to go out for one day trip. Have car. I need to take my 3 year old kid and parents along. So not much interested in beaches, as it’s winter. Any suggestions? Interested indoor visits and nature which are less windy.

Preston Parking

Hello I have just passed my driving test and live in Bishopgate gardens in Preston and I'm purchasing a car. Parking is a nightmare so I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into areas I can park? I'm not sure of the safety of the bus station car park and the small one on titherbarn street above like RIVA I don't think you can park in. I'm aware I can park outside the building between 6:30pm-8am Monday - Saturday which isn't the end of the world but just would like more flexibility to not worry about fines!

What is the best way to help the homeless?

Was considering donating to a charity to help the homeless in Preston. Where can I put my money to the greatest effect? I don't want to donate without the full picture.

edit: Thanks all for the suggestions. I've set up a monthly donation to Foxton Centre :)

Any birthday cake deliveries in Preston?

I struggle to find decent birthday cake makers around Preston. I am looking for a small sized cake for 2-3 people. All i see is the Cake Box which has boring looking cakes tbh. Can anyone suggest me some better ones here?

Will there be a Bridge from penwortham to Warton

Will a bridge be built from Penwortham/Howick to Warton? I’ve been told that it was planned, but is this still happening? I’ve searched online but can’t find any results to give an answer.

Rebuilding Community and Nature Connections in Preston

Hi everyone,

I’ve been thinking a lot about how we can build stronger connections within our community and with nature, especially here in Preston.

I’m working on an idea called The Earthbound Collective. It’s a grassroots movement focused on practical actions like tree planting, sustainable skills workshops, and even just sharing meals with neighbours. The goal is to create a sense of belonging while tackling big issues like climate change in a positive, hands-on way.

I’d love to hear your thoughts—do you think Preston could use something like this? Are there already groups we could connect with? What kind of activities or events would you want to see?

This isn’t about rigid beliefs or preaching; it’s about creating something meaningful, together.

Let’s start a conversation. Thanks for reading, and I’m excited to hear your ideas.

Not been here since 2020, what's up?

Literally came into life here and stayed about for 15 years until I moved in 2020. Never been back since then so...what's new with the place as a bit of a catch up?

Last I checked the area I lived in was pretty alright and town was cool as fuck usually.

Kinda nout to do otherwise iirc but still kinda aight.

Recommendation for EV charger Installation

Hi everyone,

I recently bought an EV and would like to have an EV charger installed at home. The dealer from whom I bought the car doesn't provide installation service. I have tried two companies which I found on Google who claim to provide installation services in Preston, but so far haven't had any progress (got ghosted after 1st email). So can anyone recommend a good guy/company that can help with this.

My requirements are

  1. The electrician/firm must be registered as most chargers don't provide warranty if installed by unauthorised electricians
  2. I would want a smart charger, something that helps me charger during low tariff periods
  3. I have a drive way and a garage and so should be eligible for the OZEV grant. So the installer should be able to claim it on my behalf
  4. I want it to be installed in this week

Please do let me know if you have any leads.

Emergency roofers preston?

Hey Prestonites

Does anyone know of any reliable roofers who will actually turn up? I’ve got an urgent roof problem and people are either not responding or unable to come out. I appreciate it’s a bad time of year but our slates are literally falling off the side of the roof.

Had similar issues last year with my roof and it was impossible to get someone out, went through about 50 roofers.

Swimming pool memberships

Hi all, I wanted some help and to make a post without any judgement.

For a couple of years now I've struggled badly with mental health, to which I've put on tons of weight and I really would like to lose it in tbe new year. I have bad cardio so I decided swimming would be where I wanted to start off to help with that

This is where I'd appreciate no judgement as I feel as bad about it and that's why I really want to get fit. I am unemployed and don't receive much money so I was wondering if there was a pool I could join which is very cheap. I'm hoping once I've done all this I can return to work but I just need to get started first.. thanks

Centenary Mill Court flats - should I buy?

Hello everyone

I’m thinking about buying a flat in Centenary Mill Court, New Hall Lane, and I’d love some honest advice from anyone familiar with the area or the property itself.

I’ve done some research and found that the building has historical value, however, I noticed that property prices there seem to have dropped significantly over the years (it was valued at £135,000 in 2005 but is now around £75,000). That’s a bit concerning. 😬

I’m just wondering: What’s the area like? Is New Hall Lane a safe and convenient place to live? Any experiences living in Centenary Mill Court? How are the flats in terms of size, noise, and overall maintenance? also for long-Term Investment.. Is it worth buying, considering the price drop? Could the area improve, or is this a risky investment?

If I receive any answers, thank you in advance!

Microneedling

I'm looking to get microneedling done for some pitted acne marks and wondered if anyone had any personal recommendations for places they've used in Preston? I'm also looking to get dermaplaning done too.

Thanks

Electricians around PR1

Hi all,

Does anyone know any good electricians in or around Preston? I don’t have Facebook, so I can’t access local groups. I’ve logged a request on MyBuilder and tried contacting about 10 electricians, but I’ve only managed to reach one, and they’re busy.

The switches for my water heater seem to have failed, and I’ve got no hot water. I don’t want to mess with it myself, but I also don’t want to wait around hoping someone gets back to me.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Do you recognise this person? Police believe he maybe able to help.

A spokesperson for transport police said: “Do you recognise this man? Officers believe the man in the images may have information which could help with their investigation.”
