Dear all,
Please check out the latest track from Australian post-rock band The Finch Cycle.
STREAM IT: https://orcd.co/neuro
https://postrocknation.com/bands/2296/the-finch-cycle
The Finch Cycle is a music project for Bradley Murray (ex-owner of Wireless Records, who also played in the band Sunny Disposition). The Finch Cycle is a blend of Brad’s experience in indie rock, and his love of post-rock. The result is a collection of instrumental tracks, which are formed from an indie-rock structure.
‘Neuro Backpack’ is the first taster track from The Finch Cycle’s debut album ‘Mt. Pilot’, due for release late June, 2024.
The track is a dedication to and championing the acceptance of neuro-diversity. The album was written, recorded and mixed throughout 2023 in homes in Ballarat, Bendigo and Wangaratta – all regional cities in Victoria, Australia.
Production by Bradley Murray
Guitars – Bradley Murray
Trombone – Brendan Bartlett
Drums – Michael Evans-Barker
Mastered by Andrew McLaughlin (@championmotorist)
*It’s post -rock at its core but it also dials into that beautifully emotive 90s/early 00s indie rock sound of Australian bands such as Bluebottle Kiss – when it was as important for the guitars to lull and serenade as much as they needed to swerve and coruscate –*Doubtful Sounds
[The Finch Cycle is] emerging as one of the most interesting offerings in the post rock genre this year. The result is a multi-layered beauty of a record, blending many contrary moods and locking them into one hell of an experience – Idioteq
The Finch Cycle composes both terrifying and relaxing compositions with an intense atmosphere – Metalperver
‘Neuro Backpack' is released digitally on May 5, 2024 – available through Bandcamp and streaming services, globally.
A proud product of Key Control Recordings. Distributed digitally by The Orchard.

IDK how else to describe this, but it's definitely post-metal adjacent if not an exact fit for this sub. Here are some examples:
Sadness - In the Distant Travels
The Angelic Process - The Promise of Snakes
I know about shoegaze (e.g. My Bloody Valentine sounds pretty similar to this) but looking for stuff on the more extreme end. Thanks!
a masterpiece I revisit just about every week.
Ex member of LLNN here. New Money is not as atmospheric as LLNN, but I hope people who likes my old band would want to give it a shot.
These are my two most favorite genres, but apparently they meet not quite often.
Surely there were a couple of notorious collaborations: Jarboe & Neurosis, Jarboe & Justin Broadrick.
There was once a great band Alaric on Neurot.
Very cool existing project Anatomy Of Habit which is a sort of doom version of late Swans.
Mirrors For Psychic Warfare - was a dive into (postpunkish) industrial by Sanford Parker und Scott Kelly (yes, i know).
Anything else?
As a bonus:
Cult of Luna - 24 hours
A Storm of Light - Day of the Lords
Year Of No Light - Disorder
Does anyone have a hi-res image of the waves on Oceanic’s artwork? I can’t find one anywhere.
