For all your hypothetical political scenarios.

What would happen if Ross Perot had actually won the 1992 election? What if Roosevelt had died in 1939? There are so many possibilities, let's try to think of how things may have been different.

Guidelines:

Please try to include actual possibilities, but think outside of the box.

What if bin Laden was killed at Tora bora in 2001

This situation would be if politicians were interested in ending the gwot as soon as possible. This would also be a situation where the us had the 75th ranger regiment to secure the Pakistan border so bin Laden could not escape. How different would the us war in Afghanistan be?

What if a government defaulted on its debt? Would that cancel out taxes that are owed to that government?

For example, let’s say you owned municipal bonds and owed property taxes to the local government. The local government then defaults on the debt. Could you then say, “You owe me $10,000 in bond payments, I owe you $10,000 in property tax payments, we’re both even, and therefore I don’t have to pay you anything”?

If it’s the federal government defaulting on its debt, then we probably have bigger problems. But state and local governments in the US often do actually default on their debt and go bankrupt.

What if the Indian Army polices the Russia-Ukraine border as part of a Trump peace deal in exchange for payment?

Here is one example of how such an agreement might look like

Russia and Ukraine agree to freeze the conflict along the current frontlines (so Ukraine gets to keep the land they gained in Kursk), and Ukraine agrees not to join NATO for 20 years. The Indian Army agrees to police the border for the next 20 years and deploy at least 100,000 troops at any given time for this purpose. In exchange for doing the policing, the Indian Army is paid:

  • 400 million dollars every year by the US Government for the next 20 years
  • 400 million dollars every year by the Russian Government for the next 20 years
  • 400 million dollars every year by the European Union for the next 20 years
  • 250 million dollars every year by the United Kingdom for the next 20 years

Additional Considerations

The amount could either be indexed to an inflation metric that all participants agree to use, or it could increase by a certain fixed percentage, which could be 2% on the lower end and maybe 4% on the higher end.

This could be a much cheaper arrangement as opposed to having the European countries deploy troops directly. Rather than having a cash payment in dollars, they could decide to instead have it be an equivalent amount in weapons or in commodities such as oil which India imports. Since India is expanding its domestic arms industries over time, the payments could initially be in the form of weapons and then shift to something else such as commodities or actual cash payments.

What if Quebec and Mexico united so that they may counter the dominance of the English language in North America?

So let's say that mexico wants to show that it doent speak English unlike the other 2 powers in north america and quebec also wishes to be distinct from anglophones so the two unite to become distinct from the english of usa and canada, with quebcois french and mexican spanish being the offical languages. What would life in this new country be like? How would canada react to losing quebec to mexico? How would the quebecois and Mexicans get along with each other in the union?

What if we got Trump in the Guinness Book of World Records for "Person Targeted by the Most Lawsuits"

He wants to be #1 at everything, why not as the most litigated human on Earth? It would make great headlines.

Little bit of an odd question. What would happen if a bunch of Ancient Romans accidentally time traveled to 2017?

(X-Post from /r/timetravelwhatif )

I'm not sure if this really belongs here, so sorry in advance.

To be more specific, about 1,300 legionaries.

After tests are taken, studies completed, vaccines given, and the Romans given a very thorough history lesson, what would happen to them? Would they become citizens of some country? Which one? Or would some country cede them a small piece of land? What do you think?

Thanks in advance, I'm writing a book with this scenario.

What if Margaret Tatcher was still prime minister of the UK?

With all the terrorist attacks that are going on at this moment in the UK and Europa as a whole. I often think Europe is way to soft. And often wonder how someone like (iron) Lady Tatcher would tackle the problems we face today mostly terrorism.

What if Trump legalizes the use of all drugs?

Pot, meth, heroin, lsd, molly, acid, etc.

These are billion dollar industries almost entirely because the government doesn't think we're smart enough to decide what we put in our bodies, but if we just suddenly changed that, the value of the drugs would drop like a rock. it might single-handedly cripple the business of dozens of drug lords in a single day.

Sure consumption would probably go up for a while, but nowhere near enough to cover the drop in price from everyone freely being able to sell it (assuming a system where they receive a license and a marked territory to punish those dispensing deadly doses).

Imagine it like prohibition. Saying no one can have it and making it so only criminals can get it for you, makes money solely for criminals and puts people in places where illegal stuff happens, but if there's no profit to be made by sneaking it across the border or avoiding cops, use and deaths caused by it could decrease by a wide margin.

Honestly, I'm not even sure by what right the government has to tell us we can't have pot.

FWI: On Election Day, fanatical Trump supporters conduct a string of bombings at polling places in liberal neighborhoods in key swing states.

If this happened, could they affect the outcome of the election? Would the Clinton campaign have any recourse?

Army Rule

The Office of POTUS becomes so tainted with scandal and corruption and also, the people running for President are all so venal and deceptive, that the Armed Forces take over the running of the country.
