Hi everyone. I just created this throwaway account because I’m really worried about being homeless with my five kids (8, 6, 6, 3, and 2). I will have nowhere to live after the end of the month. I work full time and I am raising them only on my income so I cannot afford the traditional priced rent. I can barely pay my bills. I have reached out to a few different resources such as the Plant City housing authority and got approved for their wait list but I’m not sure I have enough time to wait, as it has been approved since July. I’m running out of time and I’ve been trying everything to avoid being homeless. Does anyone know of any resources that help mothers with children for housing? I’m really doing everything I can. I cut all my extra expenses and was living with family but they are moving and we cannot go with them. Please no judgment or harsh words. I really can’t handle it right now. I feel very alone with no support system. No friends or family who can help otherwise. Or even just some kind words. I just wanted to know if anyone knew of any resources that could help me. Thanks in advance.
What’s it like to live here? We are thinking of moving if able & were wondering what the community is like? I’ve seen some stories but would rather hear from people who live there. (Mostly about LGBTQ+ members) But how do they treat interracial couples? Welcomed? Looked at sideways? Some areas better than others? Thanks in advance!
We had wifi the time Milton was here, but now we have no wifi.
Anyone know off hand a good Internet Provider in the Dover/Sydney area? Have Spectrum but ridiculous service to begin with before the storm. Son goes back to HCC classes tomorrow and I just want him to be able to get assignments done plus enjoy. I know he can use WiFi on campus but still looking regardless. Frontier/Verizon are not on our street and they won't install unless more than a handful of people sign up. Had Xfinity years ago but how are they now? Thank you in advance....
I haven't really left the house much, figure it's best to keep off the roads for now for people who need it.
I've seen this video online: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DA8-3TQR01N/?igsh=MXcxNnJ3Nm1jcWV2dg%3D%3D of the south western part of Walden Lake, is it still this flooded, or has it calmed down?
How did you fare through the storms, and what damage have you seen that's potentially going to cause issues in town that some folks might not otherwise have considered?
It's getting really frustrating just being in town & seeing people taking all kinds of stuff. Someone just robbed a circle K of all their ice. Like. Even if you really need it - leave the $3 in the door? And take just ONE bag. NOT 20.
People were getting 4 bags of ice at a time at one of the little ice/water stations. Now it's out. Instead of letting a hundred people take one bag...25 people got 4 or 5 bags each.
If your generator isn't running your oxygen tank or keeping your insulin cool or otherwise taking care of medical needs...you don't need to power it right now. It sucks...but you're gonna be okay.
People were filling 50 gallon drums at gas stations that had lines stretched the length of the city. Put enough in your tank to get you were you need to go or to help you charge your phone while you're driving around and go home.
Gas in a can lasts 6 months. You can fill up a few extra cans to keep in your shed or garage and then just swap or rotate them out every few weeks during hurricane season. So you'll always have something there to use and not have to rush out & hoard supplies.
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew of places to shower in plant city or brandon area? I have a gym membership with crunch, but they are not answering calls so I assume they are closed. Lmk, thanks!
Tracker to see when the Walmart in the area reopens. I case you need tarps and such like me. https://corporate.walmart.com/purpose/community/disaster-response/hurricane-milton
Figured it might not hurt to start some lists of places that are confirmed to be open at the moment.
Please share what you're finding out there
Throwaway since I live in town. I was trying to find an LGBTQ+ organization for PC on facebook or something, but there's nothing. I know there are a number of LGBT people in town just because I've met them. Is everyone just sort of hiding from the conservative influence?
Hey y'all!
I'm looking for some insight to how much utilities can be per month in Plant City.
I'm currently in Bartow, looking to move to Plant City to be closer to my work. My electric and water is together for a 1,200 sqft 3 br/2b house, and at the hottest time my bill is $280, $145 in winter. Can I get any perspective on an average utility bill for Plant City? Thanks!
Band of old dudes looking for a space. Public storage or a studio or whatever. Respectful tenants

My name is Tyrell Hicks and I am a No Party Affiliated candidate running to be your next state representative.
I retired from the Marine Corps in 2022 and moved back home to Florida with my wife and three children to find our state being led by cowards and conmen.
I am running because our current representatives are awful and I want better for the State I was raised in and want to raise my children in. Instead our rights are being restricted, our public education system defunded, and the natural beauty of our State is being destroyed.
Our current representatives are for profit, not for you or I and our children, but for themselves. They care little for the success of those they represent and that is unacceptable. The current representative, Lawrence McClure, like many in the state legislature receive the maximum donation from the same entities that are abusing our people and our environment.
We deserve better and I will fight with everything I have to achieve it, but I need your support. I am not asking for your money, but for your vote and for you to let your friend and family know we don't have to settle for hate or incompetence in our representation.
The lack of accountable and responsible governance can end this November.
You can follow my campaign at www.tyrellhicks.com where you'll find link to my social media. I will answer any and all questions and since there is no party apparatus behind me you'll get a real response, straight from me.
Make sure to check your voter registration status at https://www.votehillsborough.gov/ and remember some elections will occur August 20th along with the primary
anyone know of any places good to skate like parks/trails/pavements near? I know of the one at the strawberry park but that’s a little small and the only place I know of
Hello, all...I'm here visiting my aunt, who is in very frail condition. She wants to get out of the house, but I'm thinking all we can manage is a scenic drive.
Is there a state park in the area where we can drive through and take in some views?
Thanks for any insight you can share.
Hi, just moved in the area with my boyfriend. Our shower has a pretty problematic leak from our shower head and causing a water ring. Anyone know any good affordable plumbing companies in the area?
55 mph is already a pretty decent and liberal speed limit. Today between Alexander and 60 I witnessed 4 different cars doing at least 80 and driving like idiots. So, in less than 3 miles… that’s insane. I’m not one to typically want more policing, but with the amount of people moving here there needs to be a zero tolerance standard set.
