Need your expert help in bringing Parkour to schools!!!

Hello, Parkour lovers, I work with schools. The kids at a couple of schools I work with keep asking me if we could run a Parkour program for them. I would group ages 6-8 and 9-11 to start. The activity would run once a week for 1 hour.
Can someone please share a great curriculum(s) for a Parkour class that I can run at the school? Ideally, as a year-long (30-36 weeks) enrichment activity. Images/videos and a list of required equipment would be a big plus.

I would highly appreciate it if someone could advise me/share some resources either in this post or in a personal message. That would help bring the benefits of this awesome activity you all love to more children.

Thank you so much!

Any good schools or teacher in Rome, Italy?

Basically the title: any good schools or teachers in Rome, Italy for parkours and free-running?

I'm in Capannelle zone, for anyone interested. There is a park nearby, Parco degli Acquedotti, which is nice, wide and full of stuffs to practice. Not specific for parkour, you know, but it's viable.

Thanks in advance for anyone replying.

What are some tips you would give for people just getting into parkour?

Mine would probably be to Start by mastering the basic actions of parkour and freerunning, like running, jumping, climbing, and rolling. Concentrate on building your strength, agility, and balance, as these abilities are crucial for these activities.

Northwest Indiana parkour Coach

Hey everyone, I’m a parkour coach in the region and I’m actually wondering if there is any other local athletes who might potentially want a job teaching parkour. Or even just a new place to train at.

Thx

Left leg doesn't flex as easily (????)

I don't understand it but the control I have of my left leg is not the same as the one on my right despite how hard I try to isolate my left leg. What could be the problem here?

Stiff wrist joints leading to pain

Hi!

So my wrist joints are stiff and it leads to pain anytime I out too much weight on my hands. It's on the upper side of the hand. Like if you'd do a straight punch it is the upper part of the wrist. So everytime I go into pushup position, or do any QM/crawling or similar, the wrist is compressed and it hurts if I do it too much. It's not a muscle that can be stretched. It's completely stiff and you feel a hard stop when you get to a certain point. I also mentioned it to a ohysiotherapist and he said that obviously there's nothing really to be done about it except for finding ways around it. Like doing pushups on the knuckles or on a bar or stuff like that. Also it runs in the family. My grandpa used to do pushups on his fingers instead. Badass man!

I can do a few pushups without getting a lot of pain if I don't do it too often. If I do a QM session I'm garanteed to have aching joints afterwards. Kongs are ok cause you're kind of going upwards. But double kongs or dash gives me a lot of pain from just one rep.

My question is: I'd really like to do more QM/crawling conditioning stuff. But I can't because of this. I need creative solutions to this. Like is there some kind of small handles that I could use to grab on to so I don't need to flex my wrists? I've tried ok my fists sometimes but the knuckles usually hurts from the ground after a while and it's harder to have good control. Maybe I could do it with boxing gloves on or something. 😅

Thankful for any advice!

Parents again

So I have been reaching on parkour for at least 3 years now, and have had some very light “practice”. I decided a while ago that I would like to level things up and try to join a camp or club. Now of course, I need my parents consent. They have been… less than willing to let me try parkour. My dad sees it as what most of the media does. Jumping from 40 feet buildings. My mom though, thinks it as a marketing strategy and will not be in use for any longe than a year. Anyone got help for me?

Teaching kong

I am a new assistant coach and in the previous lesson we did kong. I encountered the problem with two students that they could not do the kong, so I explained the technique to them obce more and gave them two tips namely: try the monkey on an obstacle or do the kong on the ground. They couldn’t do both so I’m asking what should I do?

Need parkour athletes thoughts on this.

So me and my partner are university students that got an idea for a website/app and we need some feedback on it.

Our idea is to create a parkour app that shows parkour locations all around and within those locations we show water challenges and other various challenges, you can then post a video of you doing it or free styling a line and after sending in your videos as a reward for completing it you can get a discount to a local shop in the area for coffee or food.

We would try to focus the app on building a community of people that want to travel around the world doing parkour or find new locations in the local area, posting their activities and hosting events.

Is this a viable idea? All we have seen is very crude websites that say the locations with no other info and no soul.

Learning the wall run

I’ve started learning the wall run recently and was wondering if it’s best to learn the move completely until it’s perfected on one leg first, and then move on to the next leg. Or should I train both of them at the same time? I’m way more comfortable using my left leg (for taking the impact of the wall) than my right. Is it best to learn the technique properly on the leg I feel most comfortable with first and then apply that to the weaker leg? Obviously I want to be able to do it with both so I can go on to use the right leg for stuff like tic tacs so I gotta train both either way. Just wondering if there’s a preferred method here or if it doesn’t even really matter.

Avoiding damage to my hip when rolling

Hi everyone, seeking some advice. My rolls work from an impact point of view, and my shoulder experiences nothing but pressure when executing one. However, when rolling on concrete or similar, I consistently bash my lower hipbone against the ground. It isn’t debilitating past a few seconds of pain, but I’d like to properly perfect this technique. Any recommendations?

Absolute Beginner looking for where to start…

Hello!

My boyfriend REALLY wants to get into parkour, but is at a loss regarding where to start. It doesn’t really look like there are any programs or parkour gyms around here (New Orleans).

Sorry if this is a common question, and I should have found it in a past post (I didn’t see anything pinned)…but if anyone has any ideas on how he can get started, it would be much appreciated! Thank you!!!

Uncommon shoulder roll exit

Hi everyone!

I've been training for over a decade and during this time I've obviously done thousands of shoulder rolls. The weird thing is, I have never seen anyone stand up from a roll the way I do:

When rolling from the right shoulder, I put my right heel as close to my butt as possible, and extend the left leg. I then stand up with the right leg and onto the left, ending the roll with a forward lunge with my left leg in front and my left hand pushing off the ground

It has never failed me, neither on concrete not from a hight or a dive roll. It also gives me a good step into a kong or any diving technique. The only downside is it seems to stop me a little more when it comes to forward momentum.

Does anybody do it this way? Is there a name or any mention for this type of getup? I hate the regular roll standup with vitriol, and it would warm my heart to hear about someone doing it my way

Are sore knees during training break a sign of injury?

The title sums it up pretty well but just to elaborate, whenever I get sick for more than a few weeks and can't train or workout, my knees tend to get pretty sore and stiff. I'm pretty sure this is from heavy drops but is this a sign I should take it easy or am I good to keep training like I do?

Is it possible to be able to jump higher when running informally than for a formal jump like track&field jumps?

Is it common, especially when outside on grass or sand and not aiming / for fun?

It wasn't parkour or amazing, but I felt high athleticism for jumps onto soft blocks or over objects, and "cold feet"/fear but also less athleticism for field jumps.

I don't remember the heights but the informal jumps felt high and surprising, and the field jump didn't look high. Was it just formal sports not working with my athletic good feeling?

Hey - How active are you?

Hi all,

It's Hedge from Parkour Earth here. I'm busily exploring the internet and collecting data about places where people engage regularly with parkour discussions. This place looks sort of... semi active.

If I was to create a central location which links to coaching community discussions, would the mods be interested in being on that list? Or is no-one really looking after this place and it might be better off adding a signpost to other discussion spaces here?
