Renee

I don't understand why Crosby puts up with Renee treating him rudely for so long!?! And Jasmine usually doesn't defend him at all!

Adam and Zeek

Can someone help me understand the relationship between Adam and Zeek. Is it addressed? Do they deep dive into the tension and I missed it?

Why does Zeek favor Sarah over Adam? He admits he favors her.

Adam takes care of everyone and always has to be the level-headed one out of the bunch of siblings. It feels expected, never appreciated. Even his mom just shrugs her shoulders ( frozen face) and doesn't care.

Max at Chambers

it is actually soo embarrassing how Kristina and Adam handled Dylan's parents when they confronted them about Max bothering Dylan . I feel bad for Max watching him try to express his feelings for her, but he also did some cringe stuff and them yelling at the parents in front of everyone about it after not notifying them of any issues, and definitely not disciplining Max i mean just Yikes

S2ep13 Kristina.

Overall this Season Kristina is getting on my nerves a little lol. In this episode, why does she get mad at Camille for taking Haddie to school and basically calming her down about the whole Alex thing. She did everything right as a grandmother and yet Kristina made it personal and snapped at her. Don't even get me started on when she kept harassing the other mom and kid for not inviting Max to her birthday party. Like chill woman.

First time watcher and HOLY the kids on the show….

Are INSUFFERABLE! Currently finishing season 5 and thank god for Amber and Drew (didn’t think I would even be saying this coming from the first seasons). Honestly Sydney makes some parts unwatchable - I guess it’s great acting? But holy hell she is an awful child. She just gets worse and worse as the series goes on. Victor gets a slight pass bc ya know, trauma.

As max gets older he is also hard to watch because he gets ZERO discipline from his parents. The episode with Max and Sarah getting into it over the photo printer and Kristina not even acknowledging Sarah gave me secondhand embarrassment.

Jabbar is perfect, no notes lol

Amber & Bob Little - some of y’all need need better family

I just wrapped up Season 3, Ep 16. Bob Little wanting to sleep with Amber is disgusting and clearly an older creep taking advantage of an impressionable 19 year old.

The amount of threads I see when I search the topic saying it “wasn’t that bad,” or that “Amber’s an adult.” Are you KIDDING ME?

A grown, 28 year old BOSS promotes his 19 year old staff member so he can see her 1:1, take her on trips, and hang with her in hotel bars. Gets her drinks, gives her wine up in his hotel room.

That is such a gross power imbalance in every way, even if she thinks he’s cute, he’s her BOSS. If they get found out, is he gonna quit his campaign or fire Amber? Because those are the only two options if he really wants to pretend he has a close connection with a recent high school grad.

That guy knew this girl had a shit home life, a mom who doesn’t seem to care and wants a baby with her younger BF, and she thinks she’s not smart. A RECIPE for an older dude to latch onto and convince a younger girl to give him the time of day. He even says at the hotel bar he looks “like a political rockstar for getting someone like [Amber] to come with him.”

Some of you really seem to think at 18 that everyone’s families should leave them to the wolves. You shouldn’t need to suffer through major things like sexual partners to “make your own mistakes” just because you’re 18 and the other adults in your life think it’s a lesson you have to learn.

A mistake is learning you’ll be fined for not paying a parking ticket, or that you won’t get a second chance at the coffee shop if you’re constantly late. NOT letting you be sexual with your BOSS and kept as a secret so he can cosplay as Bill Clinton.

If this were me, I’d be embarrassed at first for Kristina barging in but very grateful later on that someone in my family took it upon themselves to remove me from being PREYED ON.

Max (thoughts)

I’m sorry but as someone who is ADHD/autistic, I really hate how the writers wrote max all series long. To me they just wrote the most stereotypical autistic qualities & just shoved them onto Max & said “this is autism”. I hate that they made him completely devoid of any emotions or empathy because those are the most stereotypical autistic traits. Autistic people are incredibly empathetic. They gave him no emotions/feelings, empathy, remorse, he was super smart, obsessive hobby. Literally every stereotype there is to autism.

And not only that, I fucking hate that they babied & coddled this kid til the very end. I do not blame Adam & Kristina for advocating for Max at every step. I hate that they treated him like a toddler & set no boundaries. I hate that season after season they didn’t teach him consent. Freaking CONSENT. And any time Max was in the wrong or inappropriate, they spun the situation to poor Max. I hate that Kristina & Adam could never see past “Max has autism” in any situation. That situation with Max & Sarah at the studio. Sarah did nothing wrong & Adam & Kristina were pissed at Sarah because she told poor Max no. The time he kept taking the picture of the crying girl for yearbook. That could’ve been a teachable moment about consent when someone says stop. Nope, poor Max got kicked off yearbook. Boohoo. That kid was in HIGH SCHOOL harassing a girl & Kristina let it happen because “poor autistic Max”. We saw Adam teach him that he had to take more showers when he stunk but they didn’t sit him down & teach him no means no.

I will say that even though I hate how he was written; (he did have a lot of good moments) the actor did a phenomenal job.

Amber and Ryan

I’m doing a rewatch, probably my third time, and this time around I CANNOT stand their relationship. I feel like maybe the actors themselves really don’t have a lot of chemistry? I can’t put my finger on it. I skip their scenes. Also, I feel like amber was just getting to a really good place, and I would have loved to see her in an actual stable relationship.

I think for me it’s maybe just Ryan? Or the way he makes amber act. Because I would have loved for Amber and that drummer guy (one Ryan punched) to have a longer relationship, they seemed to have more chemistry!

Thoughts ?

Spouses families don’t exist ?

So I watched Parenthood when it came out and I just finished watching it again yesterday. One thing that just icks me out about the family is how self centered they can be. Like do the spouses just not have family of their own like parents and siblings? The only other side of the family you see is jasmines mom and her brother. The grand kids only see zeke and cami it’s like they only have one set of grandparents. I think it’s just so off putting that once you’re a braverman you sign your soul away and vow to never see your immediate family ever again. I can’t stop thinking about how we never see or even mention like Kristina or Joel’s parents do they have siblings?

First Time watcher..observations

I just have a few observations as I’m closing out the whole series

  1. Max used to drive me SO crazy. I get he has Asperger’s. My middle kiddo does- so does my sisters husband.. but he is still so rude and abrupt and honestly, they do let him get away with some shit.
  2. I feel like Kristina can be such a whiney, selfish person.(ie the Luncheonette scenario and its possible closing)
  3. Sydney is just…. A parenting nightmare. She’s whiney, she’s a trouble maker, and instigator, and honestly Julia and Joel let her get away with so much. I felt really bad for Victor.
  4. Zeek and Camille selling the house was heartbreaking.
  5. Sarah and Hank were probably meant to happen but it always felt so awkward watching them.
  6. Crosby was probably the most developed character.

Amber moving out…

Honestly how did Amber manage to afford her own apartment right after she graduated. She had some little job at a coffee shop? And then she worked with Julia & she had enough money to afford her apt & then buy a car? Amber didn’t even have $40 for tutoring before graduation so she clearly wasn’t saving up. lol It just never made any sense to me.

Julia and Joel’s House in State Farm Commercial?

Just saw this on TV. It’s a State Farm ad with Ludacris and it looks exactly like the modern house that Joel and Julia lived in.

I can’t figure out how to post a link, but it’s the This is Ludacris! State Farm ad…

Parenthood is the greatest family drama all time!

I 100% consider it the best. This show brings me nothing but pure happiness & joy. The writing was top tier, the acting was top tier. This is the only show I can call out each characters flaws & hate them for something, but genuinely love every character. Every character just has a special quality & they managed to fully flesh out every character of the show including the kids. Probably one of the only shows that actually challenged me to see the POV of so many at once & see everyone’s side. Not to mention the cast has some of the best chemistry you’ll see.

I can see why Friday Night Lights is also another one of my favorites.

What do yall think?

first time watcher! i’m just wondering…i really like joel and julia except it just seems like julia really doesn’t respect him😭she talks down to him sometimes, dismisses his ideas, and also his career as a contractor. i’m just wondering if joel will ever say something, or is this just tjeir dynamic and he’s content with it?

crosby

i just got to the part where crosby slept with gabby…and im so upset. crosby had so much development that no one really gives him credit for, and now that is all gone. not to mention i have no idea how jasmine will ever forgive him! it also makes me mad bc crosby had valid points in his argument with jasmine, but since he did this, he has no right to be upset with her for anything. i have no idea where jasmine and crosby will end up.

Do the writers know anything about the Bay Area????

I’m not kidding I watched an episode where Zeek asks Drew to drive somewhere in Oakland and Drew says “you made me go all the way to Oakland” as if they don’t live in fucking Berkeley. The longest that drive could be is 20 minutes, and even that’s a stretch. Are the writers even from the bay??? Have they even looked at a map of The Bay?!??? Hell, have they even looked at a map of California?!!???? How did Crosby and Adam drive to Vegas so fast???!???!!??? That’s at least an 8 hour drive. Ive lived in The Bay my whole life and it honestly makes me frustrated when I watch the show. Did the writers do any research at all??!!!!???!?!!?!????

Adopting Victor

I have worked in the public sector as a caseworker for families in the system. The adoption of Victor grossly misrepresents the process. Now, let go on to the HORRIBLE things that Julia and Joel do as newly adoptive parents of an older child:

  1. They never make him comply with house rules. He’s eating cheez whiz, watching tv while a family breakfast awaits. (Many things like this continue to happen.) No social worker would be on board with this. Yes, try to accommodate, but cheez whiz while watching COPS videos on the couch? No one would ever encourage this!

  2. Bribing with candy to do homework. Really??? Although it was passed on by Christina, parenting an Asperger’s kid.

  3. Encouraging Victor to call Julia “Mom” right away????? That is a HUGE no-no in adoptions.

  4. And the way they handle his education is atrocious. Why the holy hell don’t they hire a tutor? They can obviously afford it. I’m sorry, a tight ass lawyer (who is his soon to be new mom) is not the right candidate to help a child catch up, and/or address any learning challenges. Especially while sitting beside his new sister who is clearly excelling.

Ok, enough for now. I’m interested in your thoughts. Maybe I’m overthinking this.

Crosby as sound engineer

I am disappointed the show doesn’t take Crosby’s profession seriously. Just shows very unprofessional booth behavior constantly. It would have been nice to mix in some actual professional engineering besides “That sounds really good” (after not listening)

DREW SUCKSSSSSSS

I absolutely love this show with all my heart and I'm watching it through for the second time since it aired and I still feel the same about Drew. He sucks so bad and he is whiney little punk who needs an ass kicking. God he makes my skin crawl.

Amber crying over Halloween party .

Her crying and telling her mother she was disappointed in her for telling her friends parents the truth about them partying made me almost break my TV in disgust .

Parenthood has some of the worst unlikeable characters . Then there is Amber . She is god awful.

I honestly don’t get why people hate Joel in seasons 5 and 6!

The storyline for Joel and Julia for Season 5 is them getting separated which is good because all couples don’t stay together forever, however they handled it in the worst way possible.

It’s no secret that Julia is exactly like Adam and Zeke personally wise where she is narcissistic, apathetic, and allergic to compromise, but the writers try so hard to paint Joel in a bad light when in reality it’s the opposite.

They have been having problems before season 5 as they have had the work fight (Joel not being respected while Julia was) at least twice before S5. It’s also no secret that Julia was on a mental downward spiral, (one of the many cases of character derailment) she lashes out at his boss, constantly thinks they are hooking up even though he showed no interest whatsoever while she was spending a ridiculous amount of time with Ed (hypocrite) when he kissed her she gave effort into it and flat out lied to Joel about that part when he confessed. The next time they speaks she says they both have problems they need to speak to a marriage counselor about, but he bluntly says the problem is her (no truer words have been said) she never once gives him a wholehearted apology and constantly dumps on him for ruining the marriage in S5 AND S6. She is the type of person where she gives halfassed apologies and never follows through on them. When they do give the marriage another try she flat out says that she can’t promise to not act that way again but fully expects Joel to do his part in changing (excuse me while I vomit my guts out) the writers live and die by the double standards where women are completely untouchable morally where it’s always the man’s fault no matter what. Joel was in a one sided marriage and most people in that situation would do what Joel did, for those who say he didn’t try and Zeke saying he gave up, he DID try over the course of everything prior to the Ed kiss, that kiss was his breaking point and realistically everyone has a breaking point. It also bothered me that Joel talked to Zeke about his struggles while Julia talked to Camila when it should have been where Joel talked to Camila and Julia talked to Zeke because those pairs would have related to each other better, but again the writers live and die by traditional family structure where the man is always wrong, must do all the work, and should forgive the wife no matter what.

That’s my opinions about it, what are yours?

"You Stupid Asshole" Amber & Seth

Rewatching and Amber is hard to watch a lot of the time (so many tears) but she is absolutely at her best when she is laying into Seth.

Her kitchen scene in season 3 and then again in season 5. In the parking lot of the bar Seth works at, when she's drunk and in pain from her breakup. Her drunken rage is so palpable and it's one of the most memorable scenes in the whole series for me.
