Maybe this is a stupid question, but from what I have heard and read from people, the fall interview invitation round for DO schools is pretty much coming to a close, im wondering how possible it is to get II in the next three months. I have two interviews in November but I am still waiting on II from my top two schools. Im wondering if I should abandon hope of getting an interview from them in the next month and just become hopeful again closer to the spring time. It is mentally exhausting checking my email every hour this past month LOL. I would appreciate any insight :)
These are the top two DO schools i've been accepted to and Idk which one to choose. Feel like KCU would be the obvious choice due to p/f and cheaper but it's also the side piece campus of Joplin instead of the main one in Kansas City.
DMUCOM looked more appealing to me because of the environment and more opportunities, feel like DMUCOM will make me a more competitive overall applicant eventually if I wanna do something competitive as residency. Also pretty sure the school is transitioning to P/F as well but probably during the second year of my education period.
Also i'm talking to someone so I don't want her to have to move to joplin, seems worse then DMU for a young couple.
Please advise🙏
They stopped publishing data on the number of primary applications received as far as I know, but I found an SDN post from 2019 saying that about 50% of applicants receive a secondary.
Last cycle there were 2284 supplemental applicants (going down the last 3 years), 1222 interviews, with 624 offers for 145 seats.
They prefer regional students but take OOS students with an interest in rural or underserved primary care.
My stats are low, 499 MCAT, 3.34 total GPA, 3.32 science, but 4.00 Master’s to make up for low undergrad.
I am interested in rural primary care though, want to be a rural family medicine physician.
I am low SES, first gen, from a rural/underserved are in Alabama, have 2700 hours working in a rural ER (my county’s only hospital), 1000 hours in leadership as an SGA student senator, volunteered 150-ish hours and shadowed at a rural peds clinic (my former high school pediatrician, I mention my experiences there in my PS), and have 1200 hours as a Human Anatomy and Physiology TA for the previous 2 years, and currently about 64+ hours volunteering with Habitat for Humanity at my current school, getting a second one-year M.S. in Biomedical Sciences. Obviously I have more on my application but I’m just listing my highest hour activities which seem to align with this program.
Is them sending me a secondary promising?
Seems like it’s a coin flip whether I interview, because I think my rural background and experience is a positive but my stats a negative so I think they will cancel each other out.
Is the fact that I’m from Alabama and got a secondary positive?
I literally found this school and decided to add it to my list last week and got a secondary 2 days after. When I applied they said they would screen my app, 2 days later I got the invite.
I saw another post this cycle with the same subject but it’s been about a month so I figured I would ask again if anyone has information on Rowan’s Alternate Waitlist. I just got an email and this was a high choice for me so I was really hoping for better news.
It was also my first interview (which I thought went well ish) and I have two more DO II’s coming up that I hope to prepare more for. Should I even expect any MD II’s at this point? For context I’m non traditional and work in a completely different industry so I’m not insanely plugged in to this med app game
Would appreciate any information or kind words, I feel like I’ve really been in limbo for a while now.
Thanks all!
Has anyone toured or attended MSUCOM’s Detroit campus? I realized I’m only able to tour in December right before I’d have to accept my A and I’m worried about the sites filling up. I read somewhere that the lectures are all done at East Lansing and that’s what Detroit students use. Is that a negative? Are there teachers/tutors to go to for help when the content is confusing? Additionally, how are the facilities and clinical rotations. Because MSUCOM has a home hospital, can you do all your rotations 3rd and 4th year in Detroit? Thank you so much in advance any info is helpful🙏🏻
I interviewed at Midwestern AZCOM about a month ago and was recently notified that I was placed on the alternate list. I’m assuming this is essentially a waitlist?
Does anyone have any insight into how many people get taken off of the list and at what point in time during the cycle?
Thanks!
How long before the interview day did the school send you more information about what to expect? Mine’s scheduled for Nov 11 and I haven’t heard back since the confirmation email.
Not sure what to expect with the asynchronous interview pls let me know any info is appreciated.
Does anyone know if this is a hard strict requirement to gain an interview? Or is this a recommendation? Has anyone interviewed there that has had a GPA lower than that? I’m wondering if my Masters GPA can help out a bit when I graduate this spring.
Incoming first year DO student at either KCU or ACOM. Is it realistic to go for Ophthalmology? I heard it’s biased toward MDs like plastics.
In CA, I was wondering what do people think about western university DO program, I applied to pharmacy school hearing good things about the pharmacy program, but heard nothing about the DO program, can anybody tell me about it? Would you recommend it? Anybody a student there right now?
Let’s settle the debate, how would you rank these schools if you got accepted to all of them. UNE COM, Rowan, KCU Joplin, Touro NYC.
Hey y’all! I am super excited to have an interview with NSU Clearwater next week and I was just wondering if anyone knew about the vibes of the interview/had any tips? I looked on SDN and it seems pretty chill but I thought I’d ask here too :) thank you!!
Hey everyone, I know a lot of people have been asking these but I just need as much insight as u can get. Thank you in advance!!
I have been blessed to have received two acceptances this cycle and I am having a really hard time deciding where to choose.
I really really like RowanSOM but there are two things that are kind of giving me a little bit of hesitation. I am OOS so the tuition is a lot of money and the other thing is that I am not sure I would be as attractive to residencies in Texas because Rowan is mostly popular in the East Coast.
Then there is KCU which I like (not as much as Rowan) and is cheaper than RowanSOM. However it is away from my support system and doesn’t offer the PBL program which I prefer.
Now I am kind is at a standstill and not sure what to do. Any advice is appreciated, and I have added a poll too.
Thanks again!!
When submitting grades, do you put college classes you took in high school as Freshman year?
For classes you made Pass/Fail, do you use the symbol that is in your transcript or does aacomas want a specific letter?
Thank you in advance!
Super lucky to have the option between my top choices but I’m honestly so torn. I like a lot about Rowan (P/F, research, PBL, smaller class size, campus) but I’m OOS so the tuition difference is pretty large. I know PCOM PA is still a really good, respected school and I am from the Philly area. Would the price difference really matter in the end? How much should I be considering it as a factor?
Any advice would be appreciated 🙏
I am interested in attending Rowan DO and I had a few questions.
I recently attended the info session they have for prospective students. They talked about how they had good sites and the commute is no more than 2 hours for every student.
I wanted to ask if any students in Rowan DO that have done or are in rotations rn can attest to this and just give overall level of satisfaction about the rotations
Recently accepted to 2 of my top choice DO schools and pending an MD acceptance, I'm trying to decide between two. I'm also waiting to hear back from UNECOM which would be a strong contender, interviewed recently and it went well.
I'm currently living in Boston and have family in New England, so staying here or near would be ideal I think though I'm open to moving. I'm working at an RRT/ES in a major hospital and would love to stay connected here if possible. Goal is to do critical care fellowship either via academic IM or Anesthesia, though I'm open to other options. I want good research to be competitive for academic programs.
PCOM - Excellent reputation nationally and historically, great match lists, etc. Philly is a great city I think I'd like as much as if not more than Boston. Excellent city for medicine, and I think I'd have good options to finding research outside of PCOM if needed. Bad things are graded pre-clinicals and dropping board scores (not sure why?). I think boards are student dependent by and large, but being graded sounds like an unnecessary stressor that I would happily omit.
MSUCOM - Excellent reputation as a big 10 school, and tons of research funding. Excellent regional reputation for DO's. P/F pre-clinicals, great match rates and board scores means it's one of the best DO's out there. I'd prefer East Lansing campus, and the massively college town vibe would be different but might be nice, I'm non-trad and not sure if mixing with undergrads is annoying. Speaking of mixing, MSU has it's MD program as well, and I can't help but worry that all the research they tout is going to the CHM and other graduate programs rather than to DO students. The other mark against it for me is that by far the majority of students stay in Michigan. I'm not opposed to this, but if I had to guess, in 4 years I'd be hoping to match as a resident in New England somewhere rather than the Midwest. Still open to relocation short or long term for the right spot.
UNECOM - Would allow me to stay close to family, Boston, and local healthcare systems, which is a big pro. In terms of curriculum and match rates, both are rock solid. Clinical sites seem lesser to me than MSU or PCOM. UNECOM also seems more focused on rural primary care and OMM which is frankly not my main focus. I think it’s a solid school and location makes up for some deficits in other places.
What would you pick?
Hey everyone, I luckily received an interview for westernu comp and was wondering if anyone had any tips? I haven't done an MMI before so I'm a little nervous. Any help is greatly appreciated
Just got the call ! Such a great feeling knowing I am atleast going somewhere. You only need one ! Crazy to think I am actually going to be a doctor ! Still waiting on a bunch of schools tho.
Hi all, can anyone provide some general information on what their interview is like? I know there is a "do not disclose" policy so I'm not asking for the exact questions. But is it more MMI style questions or more personal/panel style questions? Is it open file or close file? What is the group activity like?
I heard KCU changed their interview style a few years ago, so when I looked on SDN, the posted questions seem outdated.
If anyone can provide some insights I'll really appreciate! Thanks in advance :)
I fucked up the interview, well mainly the first question- but still. It was lowkey hard af with the format. Anyways, when can i expect to hear back from them with a decision?
any questions about interview process, curriculum, 1st year experience, etc. let me know! good luck applicants!
I know this has been asked before but how do I write the experience section. Everything I have written down feels too direct. With only 600 characters though I feel like there isn’t enough room to “show not tell” am I overthinking this?
Having a great day 😁
Hey y’all! So far I’ve been very fortunate to receive acceptances to both ATSU (Mesa campus) and Touro (Harlem campus). I’ve been to ATSU in person and plan to visit Touro soon but need some help deciding where I should put my deposit down. Some context, I’m a California resident and would like to come back here for residency. Currently thinking of an IM residency and heme/onc fellowship. I have the following pros/cons:
ATSU Pros
ATSU Cons
Touro Pros
Touro Cons
Anyways thanks in advance for reading this. If there are any current students at either of these schools please feel free to DM me about your experiences!
Edit: spelling and added more pros/cons
Incarnate world or William Carey ?
Hi does anyone know if there are any unique clinical opportunities /research opportunities offered at either Joplin or Kansas City. I’m doing HPSP so I know there’s a Military Med track but is there anything else unique about Joplin or Kansas City that I could talk about for why X campus?
Hello, NOVA is my top choice for DO school, I have a 504 MCAT, 3.6 GPA and am in a specialized graduate program at a top 10 university with some great professional experience. I have many clinical and volunteer hours plus I mentioned that I know a physician that graduated from NOVA DO in my application. When I inquired about a status update on my application, admissions told me that my application has been reviewed and is now being reviewed in a pile for potential interview (this response was given to me 16 days ago). what are my chances that I will move forward in the process? I have been so stressed.
