I am new to orchids and need some help troubleshooting why the old leaves on this one are shriveling and droopy. I bought this plant and it was potted with other plants and didn’t repot it when I should have. When I finally did it had a lot of root rot which I trimmed and then repotted in current pot. Since then it’s had new leaf and root growth but the old leaves have remained shriveled. It’s in a west facing window. I water it whenever the soil gets dry, probably like every 1.5-2 weeks. Haven’t fertilized yet.

Is the second time is blooming at home and something is not right, it’s like it’s aging before opening.

Suspect is going to dry out and fall.

shout out to my third vanda that decided to bloom in my garage when it had all summer with great light optimal temperatures perfect humidity, but chose to do what it’s supposed to do in my garage with keep you alive, lighting, and decent overall conditions 😅

I’m nervous about having it since I just have phals and one dendrobium right now. These are small plants so I believe what I have is blooming size? I put it close to the humidifier and quite close to the light, so I’m going to be monitoring how it likes the higher light exposure as I’ve read a good amount of light can trigger blooming for these.

Right after these paphiopedilum delenatii alba blooms were both finally open, I discovered thrips in my collection. Though I am actively treating them with what I have on hand (and will rotate treatments including some "big guns" over the next month), I didn't get a chance to take a picture of both flowers open together until after I realized they already had damage. :( Better luck next year, maybe I will get a double bud again! Also please ignore the dog hairs, I didn't see them 😂

New (to me) Bratonia Shelob Tolkien has brown pitted pseudobulb

I currently only have Phals, so they more or less bloom around the same time. What are some options for brightening up the orchid area with plants that have more visual appeal other times of the year? (This is a south-facing window that's half shaded in the summer.)

Feeling pretty solid about these… created for like zero dollars and with mainly stuff I had. Rescue orchids and a 3$ little spidey I can propagate. I’m sure I’ll get some hate about what I did “wrong” 🤷🏻‍♀️. Well maybe it will spur some ideas and pic shares of other creations. 🤯🙃

Hi! So here is my orchid. 

I know its not thriving but i wonder if i can save it. Most of the roots are dead. But as you can see, there is still a couple of healthy ones on the upper part. 

If its salvagable, what can i do to save it?

This orchid was given to a family member and then the family member gave it to me. I don’t really know where to begin to ID it and bring it back to health. It’s never bloomed in my family members care, so I don’t even know anything about the blooms.

Inherited Orchid needs some TLC

My mother has a few orchids that seemed to be doing my very well. They put off new spikes and reflowered quickly. I have experience *killing* orchids, so I was a bit jealous of her success and was surprised because she is somebody who mothers her plants to death. 

But after she told me one of her orchids, that I bought her for Mother’s Day, had already began to put off a keiki, I checked its root and there is root rot. I trimmed off anything I could find that was mushy and peeled away some tissue that was black and mushy and I think I got most of but there are some black spots around the roots I’m afraid to mess with. It has quite a few good roots left and was recently growing a new root. The older leaves look a bit wrinkly but it has also produced new leaves. Nothing really appears to be dying, but I’m still concerned that it may be producing so much because of stress. 

So far I’ve trimmed away as much rotted stuff as I could, sprayed some peroxide on it and currently have some bark and moss soaking to repot it with. 

I’m questioning some things though. The orchid was originally in moss but my mom repotted it in a chunky bark mixture. This made me wonder if perhaps the roots weren’t able to soak up enough water through the bark since they were not adapted to it. However, replacing it with 100% moss concerns me because it has put out new roots that would’ve been adapted to the bark. I also am worried about putting it in only moss right now since I want to limit how wet it is at the moment. I’m considering a mostly 50/50 mix since most of the roots are adapted to the moss but the bark is so chunky it may help break up the moss mixture and keep it from being too compact. 

The nursery pot it was in did not have any holes in it so I am replacing it with one that does and not adding it back to the decorative pot until it recovers.

My mom really wants to keep the keiki on but I’m questioning if that’s a good idea. The orchid really seems healthy overall but I’m an orchid killer myself so what do I know?

Any advice or criticism for my current plan? Thank you!

Orchid with keiki has root rot. Need advice for treatment and repotting.

Had this girl for 4 years, and has been inside for all of it. 
My outside dude was doing really well, so I thought I had a brilliant idea 🙃
I put her next to him, and I think she got totally sunburned. 😭

How does my orchid plant look? 

This is my first Paphiopedilum Orchid. I got it in late 2022 on clearance from a nursery, with two growths that had bloomed already, and one new growth that hasn’t bloomed for me. It was barely hanging on by a couple roots when I got it, so it’s just kinda stayed like this while it took root and the old leaves slowly withered. Now there’s two new fans growing from that growth, and another fan from an old stump! I’m so stoked to see it settling in, and I hope I can get them to flower!

Thank you ! I’m not an orchid hobbyist and it’s the only one I have but I’d love to have more once I learn how to take care of them

Help for sad neglected plant 

My amazing blossoming orchid branch broke off yesterday when my cat knocked it off the plant table, is there any way to salvage this? I’ve never propagated a plant before and I’m trying not to be devastated.

I’m new to all this and repotted with sphagnum and cut off a lot of the root structure because it was very long, old and most of it dead. Leaves look pretty okay?
