Connecting our own router to Telia fiber internet

I live in a relatively new apartment (built in mid 2023) which has a Telia fiber internet.
It has an ethernet port on the wall in the living room which is marked with WAN (see below).
When I moved in, Telia gave me an F1 router which has a bridge mode on one of the LAN port (port 4).
That router is now connected to the port marked with WAN and broadcasts wifi in my apartment.

Now, I want to install a Google Nest Wifi Pro mesh system in my apartment because there's one bedroom which has a "wifi dead spot".
To make things even more complicated, I plan to install a Philips Hue Bridge and a Smart Home Hub which requires a wired connection. Nest Wifi Pro only have 1 WAN and 1 LAN port.
Therefore I will need to add a switch that is connected to my Nest LAN port.
And the switch will connect the Hue Bridge, Smart Home Hub etc via ethernet cable.

My questions are:

1.Can I just connect my Nest Wifi Pro directly to the WAN port on the wall in the living room and use it as a router? Which means the Nest Wifi Pro will provide IP address to all the devices in my apartment.
I also heard that there is this VLAN 10 thingy that used to be the getaround to connect our own router to the fiber network.
But I heard that it's been disabled. Not sure what is the getaround then.

2.An alternative solution is:

a. Connect WAN port on the wall to my Telia F1 router.
b. Enable bridge mode on my Telia F1 router.
c. Connect my Nest Wifi Pro to the Telia F1 router on port 4
d. Connect an unmanaged switch to my Wifi Pro LAN port.
e. Connect smart home hub and Hue Bridge to the switch

But in with this alternative, I'm not sure if I will have double NAT problem or not. Not sure if my devices will be assigned IP from my Nest or from my Telia router...

Can anyone suggest which one should I do?

Thanks!

Moving to Norway with a (future) Degree in a Small Field

Hi! I'm an Israeli currently serving in the army, but I'm done soon, and have to plan my life onward, my online partner lives in Norway, and calls for me to come live with him.

However from what I've seen I fall into none of the categories to get even a temporary residence permit, I'm not reuniting with family members and such, I'm not planning on studying there and am not an asylum seeker, so my only viable option from what I've seen is to acquire a work Visa after getting a degree and finding an employer in Norway.

But here's the deal, my chosen field pretty much doesn't exist in Norway (I'm planning on being a concept artist and later a VFX creature animator). For now my plan is to study abroad, possibly UK (because neither Norway or Israel offer the degrees that I seek), get a Bachelor's or a Master's in concept art, and then move to Norway.

My question is is it possible to get a work Visa in such a tiny field? Can I just somehow move there and work remotely for larger studios? What do I need for this besides the obvious degree? Thanks in advance :)

Price of building a house from scratch as opposed to buying one?

I am personally one of the lucky few which own a home below 30 which I managed to aquire through abnormal means so this doesn't affect me. However I see how much the current housing prices are effecting the people of my generation so I'm always interested in learning more about it. Seeing as it's not abnormal to pay 3-4M NOK for a home in the general area of any major city nowadays (not including addition costs of the loan) I was wondering what the comparative price would be of buying a plot of land and hiring people to build it from scratch.

Norway vs Australia?

I live In Australia and am considering moving to Norway. Some people seem to think this is crazy. I really enjoy the time I've spent in Norway, but I'm starting to question if life is a lot easier here in WA. I did reach out to a few people whod posted stating that they've lived in both but didn't get a response, so figured I'd just ask publically.

Im originally from the UK and would love to be closer to family, but I'm not overly keen on the idea of living in Britain, and Australia is just so far away - Norway seemed like the best option for me as I'm enjoying learning the language, it seems to have a great economy, it's safe, seems to be good socially (raising kids etc), and of course, close to the UK.

I often hear people say just how Norway is, and obviously I already know this because I've visited several times now, but I'd always brush it off with "well Australia is super expensive too" but I guess I'm not really sure just how far a typical Norwegian wage will get you vs here.

Bit of a ramble post, just hoping I can get some input from people whove done both. I am an Australian citizen so I can always return here in the future, but for now, I want to be closer to home, and I love the idea of an adventure to a new country.

Christmas - Trondheim or Tromso?

Thinking of visiting Norway at Christmastime, want to stay in one city, avoid driving ourselves, and take tours for any activities outside the city. Hoping to see the Northern Lights.

We’re comparing Trondheim vs Tromso. Looks like Tromso would be better for seeing the Northern Lights. But especially interested in opinions on cathedrals and Christmas markets. Also interested in recommendations for cultural activities for learning/experiencing Norwegian history, Sami culture, and the Arctic.

Nidaros cathedral vs Arctic cathedral - any other recommended cathedrals that offer Christmas choir performances? Happy to attend a worship service or purchase tickets to a concert.

Which Christmas market is better? When is the best time to go?

Are the Tromso Ice Domes worth it?

Should we consider a different city instead?

Is non EU, non US, non UK credit card accepted in Norway?

Hi, I’m visiting Norway (Oslo, Bergen, Flam) and understand that EU credit cards are commonly accepted. However, my credit cards are not EU, US, and not from UK.

I read from visitNorway.com this 3 paragraphs:

“Debit and credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, and many places also accept payment by phone, like Google Pay and Apple Pay. But it is still a good idea to have a bit of cash on you for small purchases. Foreign currency is rarely accepted, so you need Norwegian currency to get by.

You will find cash machines in towns and cities, and in most rural areas there will be at least one place where you can withdraw money, such as at a kiosk, grocery shop, or petrol station.

Post offices and some grocery shops or supermarkets do not accept FOREIGN credit cards, although they happily take debit cards.”

  1. If I am visiting Flam, would it be an issue if I had $0 NOK? Eg. Luggage storage and train in Flam. If yes, what amount should be sufficient for 1 night’s stay (3 meals)?

  2. I’m also visiting Bergen and Oslo. Is it safe to have $0 NOK for these cities, because these cities have money exchange services?

Thank you in advance!

Problems with our landlord.

We recently discovered that our land lady is selling her house.. On Facebook. This was three days ago. Yesterday she bought a new house. And today she is harassing us for a showing this Sunday of our apartment. We said that's not possible and now she's mad about it. I know this isn't lawful right? I would like any advice regarding where we stand on this as we have had absolutely no notice whatsoever.

Iban in Norway - fair.no

update: i was able to get all information and support to transfer my money to fair.no. many thanks for all who contributed their support :)

Hi all!

First of all: if this thread is not wanted, feel free to delete it but i'd be happy for any feedback.

TL/DR: i have the banking number and the KID, but no IBAN. how can i send money to a norwegian bank account / fair.no from europe?

Long story:
I was in norway for the first time last year. (it was lovely and i loved also staying with norwegians, but enough about that) i thought i was smart by registering to flynt before being in norway. however, after the vacation, the invoices did not come in consolidated but each separatly. i was not able to send the cash of the invoices together and the entire banking fee for each transaction took me already in total 384 kr.

Now they had another 23 kroner open. i asked them 2x if this is the last invoice. they never responded. but at the end, they moved the debts over to fair.no. now they are sending me reminders to pay with a banking account and a KID. i asked them twice how i can send them money from europe. they are ignoring my calls and i cannot reach anymone via phone. this grind my gears. i thought germany is bad when it comes to service :D

now i am with 212,81 kr in debt and still get reminder but no responses to my email.

does anyone have an idea how i can send the money to fair.no without having an norwegian bank account in place?

Where to get Smalahove in Voss?

I’m traveling later this year and want to try some Smalahove when I stop at Voss. I searched on google and found Smalahovetunet that is only open if they have enough reservations. If I’m not able to get in, is there another place that offers Smalahove?

Opinions on vehicle types for living in the middle rural parts of Norway, when working in agriculture

This is more directed towards people who live in rural areas and those who work in agricultural industries.

My family and I would like to purchase a vehicle at some point and have been discussing our different options. Currently we live in a larger city with good public transport, so on the rare occasion we need a vehicle we just rent one. There's not really any need for a vehicle here. I do have a førerkort though.

I hope to get a vehicle that can be used for several years, so I want something that will be practical for the future.

Our long term goal is to purchase and operate a smaller farm in a more rural area, probably in Innlandet or Trøndelag. We want to get a vehicle to make visiting/viewing properties easier, and we will definitely need one when living outside of a city anyway.

I know that Norway heavily pushes and incentivizes electric vehicles, and that even in some of the most rural areas the charging infrastructure is passable. Norway is working to phase out petrol and diesel cars.

However, I was wondering what people's thoughts were about the different vehicle types when working in agriculture? What have your experiences been? There will be other combustion equipment on the farm, like a tractor.

Happy to answer any questions you have. I didn't want to go into a lot of details because "working in agriculture" is very generic and different for everyone, and I wanted to get varying opinions. Where I'm from, this would all just be petrol and there would be a petrol tank on your own property that is periodically refilled.

How much are you spending on food?

I just put together how much me and my wife (+ 2 cats) are spending on food. And it is shocking! I won't disclose the amount now, just to keep bias out. But I wonder if we are just being stupid. We buy most of our daily groceries from the nearest Rema 1000, and get our meats from a nice middle-eastern slaughterer. (Cheaper than in the stores). And we buy fish from some guys who deliver frozen cod home in a 5kg boxes. (also cheaper) I just want to get some comparison and maybe tips? We live in Bergen.

Best month for hiking in Narvik?... And how to get food?... Tiny budget, tiny information, confused about DNT route markings.

Last year I accidentally ended up in Narvik, scouted a bit; and noticed that it had potential, I travel on the cheap because I am broke and somehow Norway works because I just be outside walking/cycling in the wilderness, with my tent, and taking shelter from time to time.

I got this DNT key because I am a member of Suomen Latu; my plan is to take a plane to Tromso and take the bus to Narvik.

Now following the trail I end up in a really weird Fjord near Hellembotn?, I can see in google maps there is a port there with some houses; and I need to make it to Drag to get food, is that what like a ferry service?... or is it some sort of expensive thing?...

https://ut.no/rutebeskrivelse/136519/fra-rysvatn-til-hellemobotnvuodnabahta/kart#10.01/67.804/16.8479

The information looks all iffy and the trail claims is expert level, but does that mean I can walk it or it needs mountaineering equipment?... the most sketchy trail I did was romsdaleggen, which I wouldn't have done alone, it wasn't very physically demanding at all, but then I got on the top and boy it was sketchy and I almost shit my pants.

Romsdaleggen was red route, this one is black (and in other places blue?? https://ut.no/turforslag/116951/fra-hellmobotn-til-sverige ) is it about the distance?... because the steep part is at the start. But a couple of nearby routes (near Tromso) I did before were red and I did most of them on a mountainbike, as for a hiking route I'd have said it was extremely easy; so I went to the romsdaleggen on the mtb, only to end up ditching the bike and going barefoot because the level was totally different, red was red, it was not very physically demanding, but oh boy you had to have respect for it, literal vertical walls and you rather don't fall; so these levels tell me nothing.

I feel like I am out of details, and I am not in the mood for vertical walls and falls when carrying tons of food; I anyway would like to keep going towards Padjelanta and then go back to Norway, and back to Narvik, back to Tromso, and back home. The only reason I need to head there is food, with a big pack, vertical walls are a no-no, otherwise I have infinite endurance, but I don't like stupid games.

Unless there's another way to get food in the Padjelanta, I know they sell food there, but I want 12 days worth of, high fat food, if not straight fat; not the high carb nonsense; that just gives me diahrrea; it should take me 20 days optimally, 5 extra days to spare; and some emergency exit routes.

Also some insurance options, only medical tbh, I just need to be shipped to Finland in such case, I doubt, I am a careful mf, and I've done this a couple of times, but still, none knows, but I just learned my EHIC card doesn't work in Norway because I am Latino.

Visiting Bergen and Oslo in June

Hi all,

Buying ticket on "vy.se"

Hello, I have been trying to buy tickets for Nattag 93 from Narvik to Stockholm for 17. June. First it was not possible because of the déraillement, then because of informatic system sales system issue. I check every day and for the moment the purchase is not available. There should be a massive ticket release today (8. Mai). Does anyone among you manage to buy ticlets today for the summer period? Does anyone among you have the same problem? Did you get someone on the phone from the company?

Do you have any suggestions what would be a tipical gift linked to norway that would be fun to give your mom?

For instance if it was the other way around and I was coming back from the netherlands to norway I would bring a bunch of tulips.

Best month for visiting Norway for wildcamping trip

Hi everyone,

We're planning a two week wildcamping trip through Southern Norway, aiming to make a circle northwards along the Fjords and return through the inland areas. Our most northern point would be slightly north of Alesund.

We were wondering what month would be more suitable rain/temperature/tourism wise and if there are any specific recommendations as to when especially visit or avoid certain areas.

We'll be traveling by 4x4 with a rooftop tent, and focus on driving forest/mountain gravel roads and enjoying the beautiful nature. (No off road driving ofc. Treating nature with respect is very important to us, we have read up on local laws)

We are fairly flexible when it comes to which month we would like to go, so we're hoping to get an idea of how busy it gets where and if there are things people often forget

Many thanks!

Boliglån in smaller banks

Hi! I'm looking for a bank to move my home loan from Danskebank. When I check at finanspotalen as someone under 34 yo, there are a few banks that offer better interest rates than Handelsbanken which my union has now a deal with. But those banks look quite local and small, and I cannot find many reviews. Are there any risks to take loans from those smaller banks?

How can I rent a small boat?

I want to rent a small boat with an engine for fishing for a day. One big enough for 2-4 people in Stavanger area. I saw some row boats for rent on frilager, but I would rather have a powered boat. (I'm aware of license requirements over 25hp)

Blålyngtinden hike trail

Hello everybody! Next month I'll be travelling to the Lofoten islands for a 14 day trip with two of my friends. We were wondering if there is a hiking trail to Blålyngtinden? (Here is the pin from google maps - https://maps.app.goo.gl/k35dfWABTKhs4zKX7 ) I can't find anything on google or on the Komoot app. Maybe it's a dumb question, but I rather ask than just wander around hoping to find a way to the top. There is a photo from the top on that pin in google maps, but I have no idea how that guy/girl got up there. I don't see any visible trail nearby. Would anybody be so kind as to help us please?

How hard is it for a Norwegian guy to get a Norwegian girl? Is it even harder for immigrants to get Norwegian girlfriend?

Are there noticeable dating biases, such as highly educated or well-paid women avoiding conventionally less successful men like common workers or dropouts; or Norwegian women not considering immigrants, even those raised in Norway from a young age?

I'm a woman from another continent completely unfamiliar with Norwegian dating culture and would love to learn more about your perspectives, whether you're an immigrant, a local Norwegian, or someone who has lived there long-term. Please share your insights. Thank you!

Ps. Let's talk about serious relationships, not hook-up culture.

Additional questions: (In Norway)

  1. Do people maintain their virginity until marriage, value virginity much?

  2. Do people easily divorce?
