Having failed my last itinerary attempt I would like to seek your advice on how best to create one based on things we wish to see or do.

Hi, I'm in the process of forming a small travel group of 3 or 4 of us and we wish to visit Norway for the first time.

We have a certain list of things we'd like to do as well as other things folks might recommend but it's important to know how realistic the ideas are, where the best places to go as well as the timing of when we go.

So in a quick summary. We wish to go on winter trip to Norway for skiing but also to see the aurora light as well as maybe other cool stuff like snowmobiles, dog sledding, outdoor spas if we can.

But also general sightseeing, bit of nature, tourism stuff, museums and some cities or towns but also rural life.

Doing a bit of research we could do October.

From what I understand the aurora is seen during this time, it's snowy and more importantly ski season at least in the Northern parts whilst not being as extreme temperature wise in the south.

So we'd wish to start in Oslo and make our way North to experience northern skiing as well as other things.

From what I understand daylight hours aren't long but not as short as they would be in say January.

The trip is most likely to be 2 weeks give or take and if realistic we would like for it to be a road trip.

Skiing would most likely take place in Tromso or somewhere around the area. One goal of the trip aside from skiing and the northern lights is we wish to visit the northern most part of Norway or continental Europe if you exclude Svalbard.

So this is generally what I would like but what I need is your advice on how to properly form this Itinerary, the best time to go, will a road trip be suitable in October, where should we stop along the way North.

Given what I've mentioned, what's the best itinerary I could create with this and what changes would need to take place in order to make it work.

To sum up the points of what we'd like in this trip.

  1. Skiing
  2. Northern lights
  3. Northern most point of Norway (Excluding Svalbard)
  4. Road trip starting from Oslo, returning to Oslo.
  5. 2 weeks but can be extended or shorten slightly.
  6. Where to stop on our way up North.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Is Early June too early to visit Senja and Lofoten?

Norway is absolutely beautiful, and I am planning to visit Senja and the Lofoten islands in the first half of June to try and beat peak summer. However, I've read that early June might have a few interesting challenges: snow on some trails, rainy weather, and the grass isn't green yet so it wouldn't look "lush."

Is any of this true, and what would you recommend? I will be there to hike some of the shorter trails (the highest elevation may be Munkebu hut), and (hobby) photography.

Thank you!

Guitar lessons

Are there any musicians in this forum? If so, can someone recommend a good teacher? Preferably in Oslo, because I’d like lessons in person.

I can already play the guitar, but I don’t have great knowledge of music to solo/freestyle. I want to actually take it serious as it’s been something I’ve done all on my own for some years as a hobby.

Your help is greatly appreciated

Accountant for company accounts

Hi! I'm living in Norway and have an "AS" company which holds some shares I own of the company I work for. It's a very simple company with basically no transactions per year.

Obviously I have to submit a tax return each year but I do not speak the language and I am not so confident with the process. As such I have enlisted the help of an accountant I was recommended by my company.

It seems I'm paying a lot for how simple this process is, and wondered if anyone could recommend an accountant in Oslo who could help with this process at a reasonable rate.

Tusen Takk!

Found out I have Norwegian heritage. What are some classic Norwegian foods

I recently found out my great great grandpa moved to Canada from Norway a bit before world war 1. I was surprised to hear I’m Scandinavian as I don’t really fit the stereotype with my brown hair and eyes but my dads side is basically all blue eyes. I’m interested in trying some classic Norwegian food that my own great great grandpa probably would of tried in the late 1800s. Could you give me some suggestions. Thx

How much would this cost in Norway?

How much would a piece of bread and Avocado cost in Norway? This here costs $0.35 in Kenya. Also, how rampant is avacado farming in Norway?

Autism resources in Norway

I apologise in advance if this may not be the right place to post, but am giving it a shot.

My son (8 years old) is in all likelihood autistic. I say in all likelihood because while he hasn't been received an 'official' diagnosis - getting professional assistance from both school and healthcare provider has been painfully slow here in the Oslo region - he has since birth, shown signs of a form of high-functioning autism.

I do not want to wait sitting on my hands as many facets of his life (and ours, as parents) are impacted, are there any autism groups or resources that any of you are aware of that I can be in touch with?

Thank you in advance.

Did Power.no just admit to promoting highly illegal activity in an advertisement as a joke?

So, I just got an advertising email from power.no, a tech giant company in Norway. And I am absolutely puzzled. They say in the ad, "Hold styr på nøkler, kosebamser, kjæledyr og kjæreste(r) 😜" (yes, with that emoji) are they really boldly promoting the use of their trackers for HIGHLY illegal relationship stalking? Which is 100% against the law and terms of service of the product they are trying to sell.

I really don't want to sound like I'm blowing this out of proportion which is why I want to know people's takes on this. Is there something I am missing here? My Norwegian isn't world-class or anything, so I'm worried I'm making a big deal out of nothing. Please see the email I got below:

Yes, this is from the official power.no email address. Feel free to check your own emails if you are a \"Mypower\" member; you likely have it too.

Why are tourists so dumb? Aiming to bike/drive the entire country in 3 days on peak winter, come on..

I really don’t understand why people come here asking for tips on their ridiculous schedules, trying to sightsee as much as possible in such limited amounts of time, in the most difficult weather conditions, assuming that it’ll be cheap and will find luxury resorts in the middle of nowhere… Come to norway to enjoy yourself, relax, respect the culture and appreciate the views!!

UiO vs. NTNU for Biology?

Hi! I will be an international master's student that got an offer of admission for both NTNU and UiO. Which would you say is the best school to study and learn a master's degree in biological sciences with? I am kind of having a hard time deciding between the 2. Upon researching, I just saw that NTNU is more known for Engineering/Technology-related degrees, while UiO is social sciences/medicine. Which school should I take between the 2? Would help me so much now that I live outside the EU and I must pay a tuition (which is by no means cheap). Thank you very much!

Fjordline Ferry

Hi Hello! Looking for a little bit of information on the Fjordline ferry. Specifically Stavanger to Bergen. I'm travelling in May as part of a 6 week venture around Europe so I'll have a suitcase with me. I can't seem to get a straight answer from the website about luggage so does anyone know if it will be ok for me to take my suitcase on with me? It's a large check-size suitcase. I didn't really think about it until now. Thanks in advance!

How does Norway’s Child benefits operate?

Norwegians help

Help me! ( Norwegian people )

I have a cousin that lives in Norway, she had twins in 2021 and she told me she receives 23,000kr per month ($2,141 usd). Her husband that lives in the U.K doesn’t work either and they recently had another baby last year. I know she receives benefits but in comparison to the U.S. it seems like she gets way more. Does the benefit she receives in Norway include housing? Or would people have to put the money they receive every month towards their rent? Also would a person like her in that position be able to live comfortably? Sorry for all the questions but I’m genuinely curious. In the U.S. 2k a month covers only rent depending on where you live.

Would you be in this situation in Europe ? Would you keep having children? Also doesnt the government in Norway get suspicious when you constantly are popping babies out and claiming to be single?

Student who plans on doing her physics PHD in Bergen

Hello! I am a (24F) student and I am planning on moving to Norway. I am scared of loneliness and I am scared I won’t find a boyfriend or a partner. Am I right to be scared or will I find friends / dating easy? I am very outgoing and like to have fun, usually in every country I’ve visited I made friends and I get on well with everyone (I work in a multilingual environment as it is in science so I am used to it)

Break in role with no degree

I recently visited Norway for a vacation from the US. And to say the least, it was very opening. It's a genuinely beautiful place with a really great culture (in my opinion of course).

I'm sure questions like this for up frequently, but I am interested in finding some kind of break in roles in Norway, near Oslo is ideal but not a deal breaker. And just to preface, I am not asking about work visas, that part I can sort out on my own, I just want to know if there are good resources to start working in Norway.

I have experience in Metrology, CAD (mostly Tech. Drafting) , additive / subtractive manufacturing, PIT training, database management, maintenance, and probably a couple other things I've missed. I currently work in Bio-Tech.

One issue I can think of is my current pay in the US would be ballpark 800,000 kr/yr (pre-tax). And even in the US I am having issues finding someone to hire me with that difference in pay for someone without a degree.

I have been learning some norwegian passively, mostly because I didn't want to be "that tourist." And I fully intend on learning more of it, as I am without a doubt coming back if only to visit.

Are there websites that are catered to roles like that? Would studying abroad there work better? Find someone to marry my corny self (/s)?

Thoughts?

Buying a grounded lamp cable with length >2 m

I need this grounded cable for my lamp (to be connected to a DCL socket on the wall), and I need it 3 m long. My lamp requires a grounded cable. And I need it 3 m long, because the distance from where I want to install my lamp to the location of my DCL socket is around 2.5 m.

https://preview.redd.it/yd3d9dz80itc1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=f323e3cb05854b0bde9b2358a8ead7e70f121214

I have tried to seacrh for "ledning med jord" or "ledning med jordet" but it seems that most store like Obs Bygg, Megaflis, Europris or Elektroimporten only sell the ungrounded one if we need a cable with length above 2 m (link, link, link and link).
Some stores do sell the grounded cable with DCL plug included, but the length is only 2 m (link and link).
I can only few stores that sell cables like this with a length of 5 or 10 m (link and link). They don't have many stores in Norway, one of them only have a store in Oslo.

Why is it like this? This kind of works does not need an electrician because the DCL socket on the wall is installed already.

Any suggestion where I can buy this?

Norwegian winter

30(m) I am planning to visit some relatives during winter 2025 (2026 if something goes wrong who knows right?) with at least €3k for two months, so I have some questions:

  • first of all... is that enough? they offered me a place to stay during that time, that said the money will be for mostly visiting them, tourism, and apport something (grocery shopping) during the stay.

  • any protocol, manners, or behavior that I must acknowledge? like something I must do or not to do during a visit to my relatives friends, in a restaurant, or in a bar. any gesture with the hands that can be find rude? (I move my hands a lot while I speak).

  • which touristic places (historical, bohemian, or natural) are a must to visit in Arendal, Kristiansand, and Oslo? do you think is necessary a tourist guide? Can I go everywhere just knowing English or there is a place that I need to know a little bit of Norwegian to enjoy?

  • as a local is there any place that you say "why the tourist don't go there is my favorite place"?

  • which dishes are a must to try? any place that the locals go very often to eat, but tourist don't?

  • how expensive is winter clothe? I am from a city that his clima is mediterranean, so I have one rain jacket, and a good one here is between 80 to 200 € for example.

  • Can I go everywhere using public transport or is a must to rent a car?

  • how expensive is mobile net? any company that you may recommend? can I play something on xcloud during a long trip or is better just travel with a switch?

  • the Norwegian football league plays during winter? if they do it, wich team do you think is a must to watch?

In advance thank you all for your answer, greets ✌️

Suggestions for a two week trip towards end of May

Hello!

We're very excited to explore Norway towards end of May, extending to June 2nd week (total of two complete weeks). But, we're a bit confused on whether we should choose North or South/West or both. Would it make sense to split the itinerary into two - one week for South/West and then take a flight from there to North for a week? We'd like to explore a mix of nature and also, the Norwegian culture (including food) as well. Any suggestions/recommendations/thoughts are most welcome.

Thanks in advance! Let me know if you need more info.

EV Camper Van rental Norway

Hey,

I’m heading to Norway for about two weeks end of June to July. I have been looking into renting a camper van and probably bringing a tent as well for camping.

I understand this might not be the cheapest option but I am hoping that getting an EV will help save some money.

I am wondering if it’s ok to park the camper van overnight while tent camping/backpacking and if it’s free to charge EVs at the copious amounts of charging stations in the country. I am also wondering what cell service looks like (I’m from the US with AT&T service) and trying to decide if I should prioritize a van with WiFi.

I am looking at cabin campers right now and also looking at Arctic campers but have read some bad reviews about their customer service.

I am aware of camper cabins and might opt to send a night in one as well. But this style of travel is my personal favorite- I just haven’t done it in a foreign country before.

Any advice or info would be great. Thanks in advance.
