The celebration and discovery of new wave music from the 70's and 80's.
Our subreddit community is for the celebration & discovery of new wave music from the 70's and 80's (e.g. posting music), new wave revival, new wave covers of new wave music + related news and discussion.
New wave is a genre of rock music popular in the late 1970s and the 1980s with ties to mid-1970s punk rock. New wave moved away from blues and rock and roll sounds to create rock music (early new wave) or pop music (later) that incorporated disco, mod and electronic music.

I feel like they are at least new wave-adjacent and thus likely to be of interest to most who follow this sub.
So I want to share with you four podcast episodes I created, which explore the careers of each of those bands. This is an about-to-become-extinct format on Spotify called Music+Talk. You will hear the usual bloviating you might expect from a podcast, but if you have a Spotify subscription, it's more like a radio show in that each episode contains ten songs, played in their entirety (or, if you don't subscribe, you'll hear thirty-second clips, not nearly as smooth). I go through these bands' careers chronologically, and as I introduce each album I play what I consider to be its best cuts.
This is purely a passion project: I don't run any ads or have a Patreon. This Music+Talk format, which Spotify calls an (apparently failed, by their lights) "experiment", is ending when June arrives. They have said they will keep episodes already created on their service even after June 1 comes and we can't make any new ones, so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping this will hold true. Just in case, though, you might want to check them out before the summer comes.

And if so, can you tell me songs of that genre?
I’m looking for a remix of Rock Me Amadeus by Falco. The remix had a medley of classic song sounds. The ones I can remember are: the guitar riff from The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, some AC/DC guitar riff (Back In Black, I think), end of song guitar riff from Queen - We Will Rock You, possibly some Aerosmith or Def Leppard guitar riff, and several other recognizable rock snippets, if memory serves. I heard this version several times on SiriusXM’s First Wave channel’s Saturday Night Safety Dance program with DJ Bueller. Anyone know the exact remix? Link? I thought I found it on YouTube once years ago, and I’m currently going through some songs on there now but thought I’d post here in case anyone knew right off the top. Thanks in advance. It’s a great remix.
EDIT: I found it mentioned on someone’s LiveJournal from years ago after remembering it was the riff from Sgt. Pepper’s. Link posted for anyone interested.
Riffs from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Back In Black, and Pour Some Sugar On Me come in at 2:54. We Will Rock You riff comes in at 5:08 and then again at 5:49 taking the song home. They work well next to the resounding riff in Falco’s original. Enjoy!
Title!
What are some popular New Wave songs with violin parts, aside from “Come On Eileen”?
My favorite drunk anthem and possibly my favorite Men At Work song
(i know that the tag says obscure new wave, the recommendation doesn’t have to be obscure, but it can be!) — so I’m making a playlist of early 80s songs of this genres from all around the world, pls recommend some music similar to the listed examples: darker styles of new wave and post punk and no wave, like early Modern English and Russian Ballet Troupe. I also want to know more things that sound like predecessors or people who are similar to Sonic Youth and Fugazi (like Lydia Lunch). I’d also appreciate even some upbeat and kitschy early new wave like Akiko Yano’s Tadaima, Remain In Light, Kidorikko, As Above So Below by Tom Tom Club, B-52’s, E.S Islands, Jenny Wa Gokigen Naname by Juicy Fruits, DeVo, Japan, Jun Togawa and Guernica, and whatever this is, which sounds like a combination of the two music types I just mentioned. Thank u!
There is a New Wave song that I used to listen to about ten years ago on the radio. I don't remember the lyrics because I am not a native English speaker. I only remember that the video clip is set in a forest. It is not Send me an Angel by Real Life. It's from the 1980s, it's not a famous music group, it's definitely their signature song. Sorry for the few details
Some Classic New Romantic/ Romantic Dance Songs?
