The celebration and discovery of new wave music from the 70's and 80's.
Our subreddit community is for the celebration & discovery of new wave music from the 70's and 80's (e.g. posting music), new wave revival, new wave covers of new wave music + related news and discussion.
New wave is a genre of rock music popular in the late 1970s and the 1980s with ties to mid-1970s punk rock. New wave moved away from blues and rock and roll sounds to create rock music (early new wave) or pop music (later) that incorporated disco, mod and electronic music.

I wish Icehouse would tour the States. They're pretty active in Australia.
People use the phrase underrated a lot, this is the song I usually think of when someone uses the term. Love this song.
Like many I always knew the name cuz...well, how can you forget it. Of course I knew "I Ran." YouTube Music suggested "Space Age Love Song" which I had never heard of, but needless to say I loved it and got curious about the album.
Y'all, their debut album blew my face off. It's catchy as all get out. Every song is amazing. The concept narrative is engaging. The sound is -- well, stellar.
There are many things that make music good, but catchiness is what makes good music great. This one has serious hooks.
I used to think I was a New Wave fan, but now I'm ashamed getting to this one so late. Why have I not seen it on any "best of" lists? Am I crazy? I've found albums I thought of as "underrated" before but it seems the only person who takes this album as seriously as me is Phil Freaking Spector. If he's saying someone's debut album is "phenomenal" then I can't be wrong.
I'm enthralled. It's brilliant. But I'm also confused to why no one talks about it. Is it the hair?
The playlist is called ālesser known new wave and synth pop songs.ā This is from the perspective of an American who was an infant in 1984. These are all songs I never heard on the radio until the past few years when a lot of stations switched to predominantly 80s hits. Bands like Duran Duran had a million hits back in the day but radio programmers had to make way for new stuff so a lot of songs got relegated to obscurity. This playlist runs the gamut from āare you crazy? This song was hugeā to āI have never heard of this in my life.ā Some songs here have less than a thousand listens from artists with a couple dozen followers. Enjoy.
Hello everyone.
The follow post is a video on the history about The Church. In this video I talk about their beginnings, along next their debut album 1981's "Of Skins And Heart".
(The video has subtitles both english and french if you don't know spanish).
Movieland was mid 1980s New York-based New Wave band known for blending edgy, experimental sounds with catchy, synth-driven melodies.
