For example, I'm interested in deploying in South Korea. How likely is it for me to volunteer and join a unit that will be deploying in Korea?
Hey guys, I keep seeing people mentioning that they were able to Re-enlist, reclass and receive a bonus for certain MOS.
Is that true? I thought you could only get a bonus or reclass when re-enlisting.
Current National Guard on a MOB somewhere sandy, if that matters.
Alright, I’ve had Tricare for a while now and I’ve been in the guard so even longer. They are really good about covering. pretty much everything. And until this day I’ve never had any issues except with Tricare showing up as my secondary insurance when trying to get my monthly prescription filled, but that was so cheap. I didn’t really bother. I just use good RX. I’ve been diagnosed with very severe sleep apnea and this is all due to genetics. And I just got a call from the company that I’m getting my CPAP from through the sleep people in the hospital I worked with. And they said they’re having issues with my insurance and it’s not letting them authorize anything and anyone else run across anything like that?
? Curious
Recently some military had came to my career fair at my Highschool and I talked to the ones from the California Army National Guard and I talked to a recruiter, I’m waiting for him to message me about information and had some questions.
What do you do when you’re not training? Can you go on base and do things? Are there opportunities to do things in the city or maybe another state/overseas? I hope to become a 68W.
I was told they could participate in things like riot control, house raids etc,. If I were a medic, would I still be able to participate in these?
I’ve had a wrist sprain a while ago, it is now perfectly functional and healed, will this affect anything?
What made you choose the National Guard?
Thank you all 🙏🏽
Hello! So a few years back, I left the national guard, but I’m still in touch with my old recruiter due to him being a family friend. He told me of the GRIP program in the Guard, where current and former members of the Guard can recommend someone, and if they’re successful in their recruitment and graduated basic, you get paid for it. I got a buddy of mine through, filled out all the paperwork for him and myself, and submitted it. I got an email from their office stating they received the paperwork for it and said it all looked good. Then….nothing. I submitted this back in April, my buddy graduated tech school and is currently at his unit, and I haven’t heard a thing about the payment. I contacted my old recruiter and he had no idea. I contacted the GRIP office through email back in June, nothing.
So for anyone who has this program through their state, have you had any issues with this program? I know the whole “hurry up and wait” stuff but I never went this long with 0 communication while I was in, lol.
I got disqualified at meps for my astigmatism and strabismus. Submitted a waiver and now I have to go to an optometry consult. I don’t know what my my diopters are btw. I’m looking to enlist as a 12N.
Will my astigmatism disqualify me from being 12N or any other MOS? I’ll ask my recruiter when I see her next but figured I’d ask here.
I just got hired in an AGR position and I cannot start until NGB publish my orders. It has been one month of waiting for my orders and in the meantime I’ve been working for UberEats to make ends meet. It sucks that I don’t have a job in this holiday season because NGB didn’t publish my orders in a timely matter. Sorry for ranting but it’s been freaking hard.
Currently 27, college degree, just started off as a police officer. Life events kind of prevented me from joining up but still have the itch to serve. Money for the police is great, most I’ve ever made in my life so far. Should I look more towards Guard or Active Duty?
When I enlisted as an 11B in 2019, I signed a 6-year contract that paid $20,000 ($10,000 first year, $2,000 every year after that). About halfway through my contract in 2022, I was told by my readiness that I was slotted for 11C MOS-Q in Little Rock. I went, graduated, and had my primary MOS changed from 11B to 11C. After receiving my second blue cord (lmao), I talked with my readiness and asked if I was contractually allowed to promote as a chuck, or if I was to promote, would it have to be 11B. I was informed it didn’t matter considering my contract was 11X (apparently).
Time has gone on, I’ve done my dues down at the border and OLS, and have just gotten back from a MFO rotation in Egypt. My peers are pretty much all E5’s, a lot of them promoting in unit with lower promotion points. Obviously I took notice and talked with my readiness again; turns out I am cucked from promoting as a chuck, and the only two possibilities of getting said promotion is either waiving my last part of my bonus (around $1,450 after tax), or reenlisting for X amount of months to pick up my 5.
Feel like I’ve been scammed (and would’ve just remained a bravo if I knew this before hand). Any advice from others in a similar situation?
Please help
How long does it typically take for a medical waiver to be approved in the national guard-michigan specifically if it matters state by state
9 years in (currently deployed and getting ready to ETS in may)
Not sure how all of this works- do i schedule doctors appointments with the VA?
Looking to file disability claim in the future and documenting my injuries with medical at deployed location
Any advice would be necessary
Thanks!
Shipping off the basic in three days and my packing list says bring razors, but I bump up using razors. Can I bring magic shave instead?
I am in week 13 at OSUT, does anyone know if they are offering 18x contracts for guard guys here? Also do you know if I will be able to pick up an active duty one?
Prior service 11B/11C/13B NCO (enlisted Feb 2004 and ETS Sep 2017) with two deployments (Iraq 06 and Sinai 10). 37 years old and trying to get back in as a 15T or 15U in Illinois. I’ve kept in decent shape, as I’ve been a cop for the last 12 years. I spoke to one recruiter a while back who had stated that I needed to go back to basic training due to my time out of the service. Does anyone know if there is a way to get that waived? I really wouldn’t mind the time away from work, but I’ve got kids at home, so I’m trying to not spend another 9 weeks away from my family if I don’t have to. I’m also curious about the schooling. Is it primarily classroom or more hands on and in the field? What does a typical drill schedule look like for this MOS? The ultimate goal is to get attached to a flight unit and get a lot of flight time in. Anyone else (prior service) reclass to this MOS and have any advice? Is it even possible? Thanks in advance.
I was an Analyst with the State of California. Effective yesterday, it's over and I'll be filing for Unemployment and going to interviews likely for the next 6 months. In the meantime, I'd like to explore my Guard opportunities.
Does the timing really matter here? I just want to serve my country and I'm not getting any younger at 26.
Anyone get TRT through the guard before? Looked on other posts and have a consensus that it’s near impossible. Been on and off low dose test and my libido is just messed up probably. If you used TRT outside the guard, what recommendations for clinics do y’all have?
Hello how is it going?
I'm interested into the National Guard. More or less due to personal preference.
For years I wanted to enlist into the Military and go AD for some time.
I have changed my mind about going AD and going into the National Guard route.
All of my information about the Military in general is AD related.
My first question, that I simply cannot find the answer to literally anywhere on reddit or the internet.
1: Can National Guard service personnel go to the VA for XYZ medical reason? in the same capacity as a retired AD service member? and not have to worry about paying a dime etc.
2: Can National Guard service personnel claim any form of Disability? similar to their AD counterparts?
So im doing my usual duty as a soldier which is not being seen or heard. Squad leader was trying to contact me for 30 minutes but I was very busy doing important things (watching anime). Someone finds me and says that the squad leader is looking for me. When i go to see him I ask whats going on. He tells me hes been trying to contact me for 30 minutes and to "please meet in the motorpool in 5 and a water source will be provided for you". Sounds weird but i go ahead and get over there. The squad leader meets me there and says "Senior PFC, we have a selection of beverages for you today, there is sparkling water, white monster, or orange juice". I select the sparkling water. Squad leader starts pouring up sparkling water into a glass as if this is a restaurant. He then says "Senior PFC please prepare to do mountain climbers". I get into the position and the most beautiful musical cadence is being sang ive ever heard. I was crying tears from the sheer musical talent this guy had. It was like angels from heaven were singing. After about 5 minutes he said recover and I was crying. I said to please allow me 5 more minutes. He looked at me shocked and said its done. He then took off an Ipad that had tipping options. I tipped 20%. Any advice on how to get smoked again? This was a great experience.
Just got our OML lists. Anyone else feel like it’s messed up? Comparing the E5 list from last year it seems like some of these E4s are not where they should be at all. Idk if this new points system but I’ve got E4s who’ve already deployed with great scores that are below others where this is their first deployment. (11B section btw)
Was an 11b got an admin sep with an re-1, things are going good for me right now but I have thought about it and I want to serve in the txng but not as an 11b because it doesnt help with jobs on the civillian side, any most that I can do on the civillian side after ait that will get me 60-80k salary?
I got nothing going for me, I have an IT cert, hasn't helped land a job. I live in agriculture dominated area and no money or family to move to a better location. IT is the only sure thing I've ever wanted to do as a career. Software developing is an idea I explored, but I find the idea exciting to be on the offensive in the cyberspace making computers do what you want it to do that they are not suppose to do and then getting to apply that offensively and defensive in real world case. Working in the Technology industry is what I really want to do, limited on options and no money for anything. Pretty unmotivated to work just to get by while i go to school too. Military can train individuals for a career in months, essential skills. Plus fastfood Is now competitive after the minimum wage raised.
But is this a good path?
Im stuck between 12B-Combat engineer and 11B-Infantry ! I need help choosing between one!!
Im 18 and i've been in the process of joining the National Guard and I'm wondering if it's a good move for me I want to move to North Carolina and I currently live in Florida I have an aunt who lives there and a few cousins, And ive been there a couple times and love it.
Joining the military has always been a goal, But i look at the big picture always. Any advice is joining the NG the right move or should I just start trying to become a FF now?
I want to be a firefighter and I think North Carolina has better opportunities I was looking at fire departments there and they pay the recruits in academies. Raleigh area and surrounding small towns is where i plan on living.
My recruiter said we can do the Interstate Transfer after basic and Ait and he's had a soilder approved within 30 days.
If i sign the contract, I figure while I wait for the IST to be approved, I can possibly start working on my NREMT at my local community college in florida if the IST takes longer than expected. I think think that would look good on my resume and make me stand out when applying to NC fire departments like Raleigh or Wilson, Wake county, To name a few places I have in mind.
With that being said I dont know if the NG will be the right move or just hold me back from achieving my goals. I want everything to work out and Being in the military has always been one of my goals as well.
Any advice is the NG worth it for my situation?
Only asking because it says pit viper
I can't decide is either AD as a 91b ( 2 year contract) or 18x NG
I m married and have kids i want to be close to home but also want to serve my country
If I am a general nurse and I go to State OCS in the Michigan National Guard for something like a nurse anesthesiology but I didn’t have the credential to be an anesthesiologist buuuut I am already a nurse, could I sign on as an anesthesiologist with the agreement that I drill as an officer nurse while working on the certification? Or how does that go?
I just need one medical waiver and we’re good to go lol.
