What is Naruto Akiden?

Naruto Akiden | -ナルト- 秋伝 (Lit. -NARUTO- Autumn Story) is a free, fan-made re-imagining of Masashi Kishimoto's NARUTO manga. It is a self-published, unofficial work known in the manga industry as a doujinshi (同人誌).

What do you mean by re-imagining? What will change?

​

Akiden is a "reboot" of the NARUTO world and story. This version discards canon continuity to re-create characters, plot-lines, mechanics, and history from the beginning. Although it will explore new themes and events, Naruto Akiden is a love letter to the original manga. I strive to keep the core spirit intact with the feel, characters, and lore.

How long are chapters and how often will they be released?

​

Chapters are 30+ pages and will debut monthly. Links to current and past chapters will be available on r/NarutoAkiden and Patreon.

Do I have to pay to read?

​

No, Naruto Akiden is completely free to read. Because I'm borrowing the characters and setting from Masashi Kishimoto's original manga, I do not feel it would be appropriate to block chapters behind a paywall.

Will there be a large focus on the Konoha 9 and other side characters?

​

Yes and no. Some supporting characters won't appear; others will have larger roles. Nevertheless, Naruto Akiden is a story about Team 7; they are the protagonists.

Will we see new shinobi villages or places not present in canon?

​

Yes; there is an arc in the Land of Snow during Part 1. While you'll understandably see Konohagakure most often, the 5 Great Nations and surrounding countries will be explored as well.

Will "ships" be a large part of the doujinshi? Will they be different from canon?

​

There will be romantic aspects but it's not the focus of the story. As for potential changes you'll have to read!

Is the Masked Man Obito?

​

No; in Naruto Akiden's continuity, Uchiha Obito was killed during the Third Great Shinobi War. New identities, agendas, and motivations of antagonists like the Masked Man will be explored throughout Akiden's story.
