Can a Californian bring a Ruger PCC into the state (not NYC) during travel?

Here is the gun: https://ruger.com/products/pcCarbine/specSheets/19116.html

My understanding is that it may be OK since it’s not a handgun, is greater than 16 inches, and doesn’t have any “extras.” But not sure if this permissibility would apply to travelers.

Thank you for any insights!

Can anyone share what the step-by-step process is from purchase to completion one your recieve your pistol license in the mail? I recieved my license (plastic card) earlier this year but have not yet purchased a firearm and am looking to do so soon. Pistol Permit Disqualification because of a 911 call involving my spouse?

Hi, I am considering getting a pistol permit in nassau county and have no violations of any kind myself.

However a few years ago my spouse had a one time severe mental episode and the counselor involved called 911 and the police came to my house and the spouse was taken to a hospital/ER, and was eventually treated and released from the hospital and has been just fine since then.

Because of that incident and my home address is now on record for an official 911 police visit, should I even bother applying given how NY probably works and that they will probably look for any reason for a denial?

I am concerned because of the nature of that episode and that this same person is also a mandatory contact on the official application itself (and the mental instability question is there), even if I was not to blame personally for what happened.

Need help in Nassau county, ny pistol permit.

Hey guys, I'm looking to apply for my pistol permit soon, and eventually get my concealed carry in Nassau county, ny. I got stumped on this one question. I'm just a regular guy, I'm not a retired cop or marine or anything. Which one of these boxes should I check? Thanks

Purchase waiting period

Not sure if this has been asked before, but has there ever been a challenge/lawsuit in this state in terms of how the waiting period of a purchase is unconstitutional? Correct me if Im wrong but it seems like every county follows their own protocol. Theres pistol clerks, licensing officers that are either a judge or sheriff. Considering that the final yay/nay is at the store level with a NICS check, why are we waiting days, weeks and even a month or more for an amendment on a pistol permit.

If anything, the NICS check should be done at time of purchase, a print out from the FFL showing approval for you to take to the pistol clerk/licensing officer, get the amendment right then and then back to the FFL to show its on your permit and the firearm is released to you. Yea, still a headache but a lot better than waiting for something you already purchased where delivery isn’t involved

Ccw permit in the mail? In Monroe county.

Wondering if someone can help out. I'm at the final stretch of the process. I seen the judge at the end of September. I thought it went pretty good. She said I should have my answer mailed to me in 2-3 weeks. It's been 5 weeks and I have not heard anything. Is this normal and is there a number I can call to find out? Thanks

Driving with gun NY to NJ.

Will never enter NYC, but driving from upstate NY to Montvale, NJ.

Am I legal to drive with a semi-auto 9mm carbine unloaded? Can loaded mags be carried? Do I need a trigger lock? Can I leave it unattended locked in my car in NJ?

Shotgun ranges

Hello everyone Do you know of any ranges in Westchester that allow people to shoot shotguns? I’ve purchased a home security shotgun for a few months now but haven’t been able to shoot it yet. Thanks

Nassau County CCW rules

I’m a Nassau county resident with my conceal permit. Where can I find the most updated rules/laws on carry. Like sensitive locations and stuff like that? Can’t find anything online that keeps us up to date.

Under-rated brands?

We all know Eotech, BCM, Daniel Defense, etc.

What brand; firearm-related do you consider underrated?

I'll go first, I like Sightmark's optics.

Their stuff is cheaper but I've used a Holo and a LPVO from them, put both of them through the shit and they both came out on the other end working perfectly.

Permit denial (Ulster County)

Today I was denied a pistol permit after my interview with the judge. Her reason was that none of my references knew that I had an arrest (non-disqualifying misdemeanor that was dismissed in court) on my record from over 20 years ago. She reasoned that they must not fully know me because they were not aware of the arrest and thus are not acceptable references.

All information on the application was 100% correct and in order. References were fully completed and notarized. The arrest was properly disclosed with the original disposition included. My references just were not aware of it because I don’t share it readily at this point in my life 23 years later. I was not given a chance to explain this or really say anything at all during the interview.

Do I have a case for appeal here and does anyone have a lawyer recommendation?

Planning on moving and want to buy a handgun for my home.

I live on long Island and I'm planning on moving just out of my parents but I'll be alone so I'm wanting to get somwthing for my home. I saw it takes 6 months to get a liscence for premises handgun is there any type I don't need a license for? I'm moving in 3 months and while I'm sure I don't NEED it I'd be good to have one soon as I move in.

Tldr; any gun I can buy without a license or is this a question for my local shop.

5.5 Months NYC CCW

  • Completed application 5/17/2024
  • Called 6/3/2024 to inquire about status no answer
  • Emailed 6/8/2024 with no response
  • Called 7/9/2024 in inquire about status no response
  • Emailed 7/9/2024 to inquire about the status of the application.
  • 7/10/2024 placed a complaint with 311 online about the application process and the lack of communication included the case number.
  • Received email 7/10/2024 from NYPD with finger prints date of 7/26/2024 as well as additional form that needed to be filled out called interview questionnaire
  • 7/10 and 7/11 completed and uploaded documents into the portal
  • 7/26/2024 finger printing @ 1pp. Started 8:30am-10:30am. Paid for finger printing and Officer advises what is missing. Officer said the investigator will reach out in 2-3 months
  • Status changed to investigation 7/26/2024
  • Call from licensing to upload photo identification 9/13/2024 Wait 4-5 week for the paperwork
  • Received emailed with purchase order 10/10/2024 from Hugh Bogle
  • Status changed to approved in the portal.
  • Purchase and submitted photo of firearm to the purchase email 10/18/2024
  • Called license division 10/27/2024 to inquire about the status.
  • License issued 10/28/2024
  • Received CCW in the mail 10/31/2024.

Tips and Tricks. • Always use State ID as part of the photo ID. Using passport is fine however you will get a call asking for state ID to include if you are living with someone.

• If you need to write a letter always have it notarize

• keep records of any attempts of reaching out to 1pp and if you don’t get a call back or a response within 3 days, open a 311 complaint using the portal. Include application number and a good contact number.

• Finally be reasonable about the expectations.

  • wait about a few weeks if you don’t hear about finger printing from the complete application.
  • 2 months following the finger printing appointment.

-1-2 months for investigation to approval and receipt of the purchase order.

  • a few weeks from the time photos of the purchase til license in the mail.

Hope this helps and good luck.
