Turning 16 next summer and going to get a summer job but since this is my first time getting a job, I have 2 questions

With the job I want, I plan to get an active job like moving one place to another (moving boxes and such) and not working as a cashier. Cause for some reason, I have this thing of falling asleep or feeling sleepy when something isn’t keeping me busy or it’s boring. With my first question, how does Myanmar’s minimum wage job payment works? Is it like the US where you get paid hourly and daily or you only get paid once a month? My second question, how much do you get paid for a minimum wage in Myanmar?

Why can't I download Opera GX?

I've recently got a new laptop, and tried to download Opera GX, but the website doesn't load properly. Is it because of the VPN inside the browser? Can you guys download it? Does it work?

Does anyone have an old map of Mayangone Township? Or an old map of all of Yangon?

I'm just curious what Mayangone and Yangon looked like before. If anyone has an old map of Mayangone Township or a full map of Yangon, please attach your photo in the comments.

stories we tell myanmar

Hello Reddit people! I’ve been working on this video series called “Stories We Tell: Lives in Exile,” sharing personal stories of Burmese exiles. I shot, edited, and basically did everything myself, so it may not be perfect—especially with sound mixing! But I’d be really grateful if you could watch and share it with your family and friends. Thank you all so much!

What were the provinces of the Konbaung Dynasty?

Just wondering what a detailed map of the Konbaung Dynasty would've looked like with the provinces and vassal states (if there were any) added. From an earlier post I made, I found out Kachin and Chin state was semi-autonomous in the pre-colonial era, so I guess that is included in the map too? If anyone has a detailed map/photo of the dynasty, that would be great.

What is your opinion on legalized abortion?

Would you support it if it were to be legalized? (of course in an alternative universe where the country is not going through the upheaval)

Just a little question about the history.

During the Konbaung Dynasty or any earlier dynasties/empires, what was the modern day Kachin State and Chin State called? A map from 1886 labelled it as "independent tribes", and in some youtube videos about how the maps changed, the modern day parts of Kachin State didn't show up. I'm just wondering.

Burmese parents, would you be OK with your son being in polygamous relation with 2 women (foreign women)?

I realize it would be looked down upon in Burma. So lets assume your son resides in US of A.

Edit: This is more of a serious question.

Alternative ways to get education-related infos?

I really want to delete my facebook acc completely. At the same time, I am scared of missing education opportunities. Facebook is just time consuming. Sometimes, I would just watch neewfeeds in order to catch infos but always end up doom scrolling.

The United States may scrap its resettlement plan for Myanmar refugees currently residing in camps on Thailand’s borders under President Trump

The United States may scrap its resettlement plan for Myanmar refugees currently residing in camps on Thailand’s borders after Republican candidate Donald Trump was elected as the country’s 47th president on Wednesday, a human rights expert said.

The plan, which aims to relocate some 60,000 minority group refugees to a third country that offers them permanent residence so that Thailand can close these camps, was previously discussed by the Thai and US governments when the Democrat Party was leading the country.

With the Democrats’ defeat in Tuesday’s election, the US might cancel the plan altogether, as president-elect Trump does not prioritise human rights issues, Philip Robertson, director of Asia Human Rights & Labour Advocates (AHRLA), said.

In an interview with Krungthep Turakij newspaper on Thursday, Robertson added that under Trump’s leadership, the US will implement a trade protectionist policy by imposing a minimum 10% tariff on imports from foreign countries.

This will impact Thailand's export sector, as the US is Thailand’s largest export market, he warned.

Robertson predicted that chaos or a crisis may occur in the US if Trump implements the policies he campaigned on, such as the arrest and deportation of individuals who have lived in the US for many years but are not US citizens.

“There is a possibility that foreigners, particularly those from Latin American countries, could be deported, especially immigrants of older generations, while their children born in the US and granted US citizenship automatically would still be able to remain in the country,” he said.

Robertson pointed out that such deportations could lead to family separations, triggering clashes between government authorities and the public, as well as between states, particularly those with Democratic governors, who may refuse to comply with Trump's policies.

He added that Trump might also intervene with the Department of Justice and the judicial system, using them as tools to punish governors who oppose him.

Trump might also implement policies restricting women's rights to abortion, which could lead to protests or opposition from women's groups, resulting in unprecedented turmoil in the United States, he said.

So lost

Hello to my countrymen living in Burma, I’m just curious what most u guys are doing life wise right now. Asking this because I barely finished my education abroad a few years ago and had a pretty decent job until recently. Since I’m unemployed atm I plan to go back to the country(dumb decision ik) to do something useful instead of wandering here with nothing to do. I still got close family members there and I haven’t seen them for so long. How bad is the working environment there? Any suggestions on what to do moving forward because I actually don’t know what I’m even doing.
