Montana is larger than the entire continent of Asia. And yet, with a population of just over 1 Million, it's completely full. This is because Montanans themselves are a huge, brawny people. Especially the womenfolk...Three words: Big Thigh Country.

Butte, America [MT] was once considered the most polluted place on Earth. However, in the year 2056, with the help of benevolent aliens, a giant net was stretched over Butte to protect migrating wild birds from the toxic Berkeley Pit waters. HISTORY!

Butte, Montana was once considered the most polluted place on Earth. But in 2056 with the help of benevolent aliens, a giant net was stretched over Butte to protect migrating wild birds from the toxic Berkeley Pit waters.

/r/Montana is meant for all Montanans, as well as those who wish to visit, or learn more about our beautiful state. This subreddit adheres to the "dinner table talk" rule - that means no national politics or religion. Remember, half the folks you meet here hold differing viewpoints on a variety of subjects from politics to the best hunting ground for whitetail.

RULES:

  1. No Politics: Political posts are allowed when the topic involves the Montana community. Tribal land disputes, water rights, the passage of bills, are examples of acceptable posts. Posts that aren't allowed are those about general politics, the political process, or politicians. Political discussions should head over to /r/MontanaPolitics.

  2. Be Civil: Yeah, you're going to get "state's full comments". And comment threads can get a little cantankerous and maybe even a little heated. That's just good barroom talk. But if it gets harassing, threatening, or abusive we're going to step in.

  3. No linking to sites, blogs or channels for the sole reason to improve SEO. If you've got an article or a YouTube video you'd like to share, go for it. But posting every update will get get shut down.

  4. No Personal Contact Info: Do not post personal contact info such as Full Names, Phone Numbers or Addresses. This is to protect the community and yourself from scams and harassment.

  5. No Bots: We don't serve their kind here. Bots will get the ban hammer.

  6. No Trolls: Controversial and even inflammatory comments are one thing. But posting content or comments solely for the purpose of eliciting emotional reactions or annoyance will not be tolerated. Go guard a bridge. Repetitious behavior like this will earn a ban.

  7. No Drive-By Posting: If you post here, we expect you to participate in the discussion. A drive-by poster is someone (or a bot) that skims the internet for topics related to a subreddit, then posts. We don't allow that. Drive-by spammers of news articles related to Montana who don't read the rules are immediately banned, no exceptions. If you want to post here, we ask that you also contribute to the conversation.

  8. Moving to Montana posts: Kindly direct your questions about moving to Montana to the sticky at the top of the page.

  9. No Blatant Advertising: This is not the place to promote your business. It's okay to talk about providing a service if another user is asking, but posts as advertisements are not allowed and will be removed.

  10. No Sensationalized or Editorialized Article Headlines: If you post an article from a news source or other website, do not alter the title. The title of your post must match the title of the article. Any violating posts will be removed. It is okay, however, to summarize an overly long twitter post or "title gore" news article, but don't change it to promote an agenda or ideology.

  11. No Crusades: Yes, we get it. You don't like Northwestern Energy | Chick-Fil-A | PETA | Diesel Trucks. It's not a subreddit issue to post on topics like these, unless it's your whole history. If your hate for something or someone is so strong it shapes your personality and that's all you post about, your post will be removed.

Montana the last best place.

Anyone in western MT doing aid climbing? I'm looking for a climbing partner. I'm a 30sM with some aid experience have mostly been doing TRS, but I'd like to do some multi-pitch routes someday. Obviously have to get a heck of a lot better first.

Lights in the sky Whitehall

I just witnessed a very long straight row of lights in the sky above Whitehall. They didn’t move, and slowly faded out one by one. Anyone else see this or can explain?

Research project

Hello! I’m currently working on a research project focused on murders that have occurred in rural Montana from 1800 to the present day. I’ve come across several stories already, but I know there are many that might not be as well-known or widely reported. If you have any information, personal accounts, or lesser-known stories that could help shed light on this topic, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Any leads, big or small, could be valuable for my project! Thank you for your time and help.

VR headsets, worth the price?

Hey gamers, I was thinking about getting my 14 yr old son a VR headset, but have heard they aren't worth the price, but they look pretty fun? (He loves Zelda and Minecraft and lots of others...)

Lawyers/Attorneys: how much do ya’ll make in Montana?

Considering going to law school next year and am wondering what ya’ll do and how much you make? Was the expense of law school worth it for you? Are you able to find work in Montana, or are jobs sparse? How do you like practicing law in Montana? Thanks 🙏

On the search for Rocky Mountain juniper

Hello everyone. I am trying to source some Rocky Mountain juniper. I am planning on making my friend a set of chopsticks for Christmas. As a young lad he was sent to a wilderness therapy camp and he carved a lot of it during his time there. If anyone could help me out that would be great. Thanks!

SO YOU WANT TO MOVE TO MONTANA? [Post your questions here]

Post your "Moving to Montana" (MtM) questions here.

A few guidelines to spurring productive conversations about MtM:

  1. Be Specific: Asking "what towns in Montana have good after-school daycare programs?" will get you a lot farther than "what town should I move to?"
  2. Do your homework: If a question can be answered with a google search ... do the google search. Heck, try searching previous threads here.
  3. Be sensitive to Montanans' concerns: Seriously, don't boast about how much cheaper land is here. It isn't cheap to people earning Montana wages. That kind of thing.
  4. Seriously, don't ask us what town to move to: Unless you're asking something specific and local-knowledge-based like, "I have job offers in Ryegate and Forsyth, which one has the most active interpretive dance theater scene"?
  5. Leave the politics out of it: If you're moving here to get away from something, you're just bringing that baggage along with you. You don't know Montana politics yet, and Reddit doesn't accurately reflect Montana politics anyway; so just leave that part out of it. No, we don't care that Gavin Abbot was going to take away your abortion gun. Leave those issues behind when asking Montanans questions. See r/Montana Rule #1 and hop on over to our sister subreddit, r/MontanaPolitics, for all of your Treasure State politics needs!
  6. If you insist on asking us where to move: you are hereby legally obliged to move to whatever town gets the most upvotes. Enjoy Scobey or Leave 'Er in Havre.

to r/Montana regulars: if they're here rather than out there on the page, they're abiding by our rules. Let's rein in the abuse and give them some legitimate feedback. None of the ol' "Montana's Full" in here, OK?

This thread will be refreshed monthly.

Medicaid Redetermination Prescriptions

Does anybody know if the pharmacy will honor Medicaid if you are waiting on the approval for your redetermination? I know I'll be approved it was an issue with their site (which I am about to make a post regarding to see if anyone else had a problem), But basically, I was supposed to pick up a prescription on 11/29 at CVS. Of course, after it had been in their system for 2wks, I found out on the day of pickup that they don't have it and CVS can't transfer it to other CVS pharmacies. Did not know that. Anyway, my Medicaid was supposed to end on 11/30, Now I'm going to have to pick it up after they get it in which with any luck will be 12/02. It's not the cheapest medication, and the literal ONLY reason I don't already have it is because of CVS.

Question: Am I screwed or will Medicaid and/or CVS recognize what happened? I know there are generics on GoodRX but they are not in my current budget. I'm kinda at a low point recently laid off.

Best time to visit Glacier?

We’re looking to take a delayed honeymoon to Glacier National Park and stay in Kalispell area in a hotel or Airbnb. We are free anytime between June-September for the trip and would like to stay for about a week. What is the best time to visit? Does anyone have recommendations on places/areas to stay and must sees? Is there anything in the Kalispell area that is worth seeing? Thanks in advance!

If anyone is looking for a unique christmas gifts, this fundraiser for a native film project has plenty of incentives with items straight from Montana native artists

Hey all, had a friend who worked on this project send it my way, trying to help get the word out. The film itself is about native american athletes in Montana and the incentives feature everything from beaded earrings to blankets made by local indigenous artists in the state.

https://seedandspark.com/fund/the-undefeated#story

I ordered the John pepion blanket as I knew of him beforehand. Prices are more than the item straight up but it's a good cause and the dude I know on it is a good guy.
