Do I always want OLED etc?
Hello
I spend 8-10 hours working and 2-5 hours gaming or consuming content on my main monitor each day. While working, I usually have a browser with text or Visual Studio open. I mostly play single-player games. My setup does not allow me to separate work and gaming spaces
So, I want to upgrade to a 4K 32" monitor with "true" HDR, at least 120 FPS, and a matte screen coating.
I'm considering OLED—text clarity on modern 4K screens doesn’t seem to be an issue, but I’m still worried about pixel burn-in. I've watched a lot of reviews and read various Reddit posts about monitors, but I still don't fully understand the situation: do pixels burn in really quickly, and how noticeable is it?
At this point I choosing betveen:
Please share your experience with these monitors or suggest other options.
Also, if you can, answer these questions: Is OLED reliable enough for work? Is there a significant difference in picture quality between OLED and Mini LED?
P.S. Sorry for my rough English, it's not my first language
Hello everyone. I’d like to start sharing my story about searching for the causes of my eye pain and headaches. I’ll try to fully describe what’s been happening to me over the past two years.
It all started in the winter of 2023 when I experienced severe eye pain one evening while using my computer. At that time, I had an MSI G27CQ4 monitor with a QHD VA panel at 165Hz. I had used it for quite a while without any discomfort, but suddenly everything changed, and I immediately decided to get rid of it, so to speak. I sold it and bought an MSI 272QPF, which had a QHD IPS panel at 170Hz. This monitor caused me discomfort as well, and on top of that, I started experiencing headaches. Without much hesitation, I quickly replaced this monitor with an AOC Q27G2S, which also had a QHD IPS panel at 165Hz. Unfortunately, it brought the same issues as the previous monitors.
Currently, I’m using an LG UltraGear 32GP850-B with a QHD IPS panel at 180Hz. This one is a Nano-IPS, which might be important to mention. It causes me the same significant problems, which made me start thinking that the issue might not be with the monitors, but with me. I should mention that I’m 21 years old, and I never had such problems before 2023. I also still use my old Redmi Note 7 phone, which has an IPS display, and it has never caused me such issues—and still doesn’t. However, my laptop causes the same problems; it has a Full HD IPS panel at 60Hz, though the discomfort is less intense compared to the monitors I’ve tried.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
I went to a doctor and had my eyes checked. He examined everything possible and said there were no issues. I also described my problems—how I can’t spend much time at the computer. He recommended using artificial tear eye drops, which I still use, but they don’t seem to have any noticeable effect.
I wear glasses both at the computer and in daily life, but that doesn’t make a difference either.
I drink enough water, as I read on forums that dehydration could cause these issues. I always keep a water bottle on my desk.
I exercise and take care of my back. I was advised to do pull-ups, which I do almost daily. I might try swimming soon.
I spend a lot of time outdoors since I study at university. Lately, due to obvious reasons, I’ve had less and less desire to spend time on the computer, so I’ve been outside even more.
I placed a lamp behind my monitor to add backlighting.
I’ve tried changing all sorts of monitor settings, both on the monitor itself and in the NVIDIA control panel:
Brightness, contrast, color temperature, sharpness, color saturation. Tried HDR mode, sRGB mode. Changed response times, refresh rates, scaling in Windows, etc.—absolutely everything. None of this helped. I even kept a “headache diary” for a month and concluded that nothing changed regardless of the settings.
I changed the room lighting—both dimming and increasing it—with different light temperatures and types of bulbs.
I adjusted the distance from the monitor, moving it closer and farther, at eye level, below, and above eye level.
I enabled and disabled G-SYNC, which, by the way, really annoys me in competitive games.
I switched color depth from 8-bit to 10-bit and back.
I increased the brightness to 100% to completely avoid PWM and kept the contrast either high or low. Even though the monitor is considered Flicker-Free and has Low Blue Light, it didn’t help.
I’ve read numerous forums about this issue, including the LED Strain Forum. After reading everything there, I realized that people still don’t understand exactly what causes the problem or how to solve it. What works for some doesn’t work for others.
I apologize for the inconsistency in my thoughts—I might remember something later, but I feel it’s necessary to mention everything for a complete picture.
So, I’m looking for people who might have faced similar problems and found solutions or at least something that helps. I kindly ask you to respond to this post and share your thoughts. Maybe I’ve overlooked something. I’ve considered trying VA panels again, switching back to FHD, or moving to 4K monitors. I’m even thinking about trying QD-OLED or WOLED monitors, but I’m not sure if that will help. I’ve heard about E-ink monitors, which seem to solve problems for people like me, but they are very expensive and completely unsuitable for gaming. That’s more of a last-resort option I’d consider.
In any case, I’m very tired of searching because I don’t understand why this problem arose or where to look for a solution. When you don’t know what exactly is causing the issue, it becomes unbearably difficult to find a fix. I appreciate any advice.
Anyone using Thunderobot DQ27F240L 27 inch FAST IPS 1440P QHD 240Hz Monitor ?
How is it's performance compared to well known brand like msi/asus's/gigabyte's 2k 240hz monitors?
In my country it is rwayy cheaper than asus/msi's monitors.
I've been considering the Dell - S2721HGF 27" LED Curved FHD FreeSync and G-SYNC Gaming Monitor to both play games and hook up to my laptop to duel-screen when I work from home. I don't want to overpay, but I want something that's practical and can do both. Does anyone think this is a good choice?
Hi everyone,
I recently set up my LG UltraGear 27GS85QX-B monitor and was checking the settings in Windows 11's Advanced Display settings. While everything else seems fine, I noticed that HDR Certification is listed as "Not Found". This is surprising since this monitor is advertised with VESA DisplayHDR400 certification.
Here’s the setup I’m using:
The peak brightness is listed as 409 nits, which aligns with HDR400 certification. However, Windows still shows the HDR certification as missing.
I’ve attached screenshots of the Advanced Display settings and the monitor's specs for reference. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is it an oversight in Windows 11, or is there something wrong with the monitor setup?
Looking forward to your insights!
I’m in the market for a new monitor for my Xbox series X, and I’m pretty clueless when it comes to monitors. What would be a good 27” monitor to use? It’s for my desk. I would use it for mainly FPS games and some Netflix.
Would OLED be good or overkill?
Max Budget $700. Doesn’t make sense to me to spend more than I did on my Xbox lol.
Any and all advice is welcome.
Thank you for your answers.
Asus Strix Xg43UQ hdr is super bad it doesn’t work for most games , screen is washed out and only resident evil 4 had good HDR most games are the same like ghost of tsushima, it becomes realistic at some point but with less colors compare to SDR i can’t change the colors in menu everything is locked up for me anyways the monitor specs :
DisplayHDR 1000
90% DCI-P3 color gamut
VA
Saw this curved monitor on Facebook marketplace and thinking of pulling the trigger.
Hello everyone, I've had this LG 32gs75qx-b for about one month and all of the sudden these stuck or Burn In Pixels started showing Up after Just half an hour of use in the Same screen (gt7 one Race). I've also already lowered the brightness but it came back after I used a Website to remove it. Normally it isnt normal for LCD Screens to have Burn in right? Anyone Ideas what the Problem could be, if i should send it in to LG or how to prevent this from happening? Would love to hear some advice! Thanks in advance.
I’m looking for a monitor that looks exactly like this one (clean, equal bezel length all the way round and minimalistic). I’m guessing the unbranded part is not very possible so I don’t really mind not including it.
I’ve used rtings.com to narrow down a handful of monitors for coding/productivity. Main requirements are:
When I input these params into the rings table view, and limit to 9.0 score for text clarity, it narrows it down to a handful. Out of those 4, the winner to me is the Dell g3223q mostly due to price (499 on sale) and better score in colors.
Before I pull the trigger, any thoughts/recommendations for my requirements?
Note: this will be for a Linux desktop. I’m upgrading from an Apple Studio Display after fighting some quirks it has with Linux and desktops. So hopefully the winning monitor also doesn’t have any Linux issues.
Can you guys give me some recommendations?
Please let me know
I’ve had this monitor just over a month and now it seems I’ve got screen burn/image retention.
I did a pixel fix and this screen came up, which looks like the black ops 6 menu.
I used the monitor yesterday afternoon and switched it off and closed the game, but turning it on today the brightness is a total mess and now it looks like the image has burned in?
Any idea how to fix this? Cannot understand how this has happened as the monitor was off
Refund period expired 2 days ago as purchased through Amazon. I believe ASUS has 36 month warranty period but not sure if something like this is covered?
Not big into computers and such but it’s been like this for awhile and can’t seem to figure out how to change it, can anyone help?
Not sure what is causing this, but whenever i have 2 monitors active, and VRR enabled on the AOC Q27G3XMN, the AOC Q27G3XMN flickers like mad. Here is my use case.
AOC Q27G3XMN is my main monitor, and i will play games on it. Occasionally, i will also use a 2nd monitor (that has no VRR), to just run a simple youtube video in the background.
When i have anything running on the second monitor, the AOC Q27G3XMN will flicker like mad. This can only be "fixed" by 2 ways.
Does anyone know what is causing this, and how i can fix it? I doubt its an issue with my 2nd monitor, because the same issue happens even if i try to connect different displays.
The title explains it really. In the top right of the screen there's constantly a display that looks like this:
FPS N/A | LAT N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A
I'd really love to turn it off, as it never reads anything other than N/A so it's just distracting.
Hi everybody! I’m transforming my office into a Victorian room with lots of vintage/antique objects. What’s the least techy looking monitor out there? Its primary use is dedicated to work stuff, so I don’t need a high end screen or gaming performances. Just something decent that looks nice in a 200 year old office 😅
I live in sweden and i know most of you probably are from the us but if you can give me any recommendations i would be happy. Also it needs to be ips i don't like va and also needs over 144hz.
These are all the ports my portable dvd player has and I was wondering if there was any way to use it as a monitor thanks
Hello,
Does anyone know if LG has any plans to release a 27 inch 4K 240hz monitor like Samsung, Asus, MSI and Gigabyte?
I would prefer to use an LG panel instead of a Samsung panel.
Currently I only see a 32 inch version available on LG's website.
Thanks
For years I've used these old dell u2412 monitors. They're 16:10 ratio. I love them because when I snap a document to have of the full screen. It's fully readable. On a 16:9 monitor. Part of the header is lost or the print is a big small. Both on 24".. recently I got some 28" 4ks and notice the same issue.
I'm an engineer and 70% of my job is reading PDFs on the computer and working in excel/word.
Is there a taller ratio wide screen monitor that can do what my old dells can?
I'm really interested in going to 1 wide screen monitor in instead of dual monitors.
Hello everyone, could anyone recommend one of these monitors? I mainly play Fc25 on ps5
Bought monitor less than a month ago showing blue lines
Its happened twice, once for like 5 minutes during a cs2 game, a few days ago for like a second or 2
I can still return but I have not been able to capture it on video, overclockers (the company) claims "we would need to be able to replicate the fault in order to deem the monitor faulty for a replacement."
its an LG 27" 27GR93U-B, got it on sale for £330 its back up to 550 so cannot afford to return and repurchase it but something tells me it was that cheap because it was messed up even though was new, can use LG warranty?
any advice on what to do? does this mean the pannel has a problem? i dont want to risk it being a "cable problem" and then it messes up, it happens unfrequently since ive had it for nearly a month but maybe some tips on how to make it happen more often and record it or should just return?
thanks
im getting a new monitor for mainly gaming and idk which one to get, i have gtx 1660 super and im not sure which one suits the gpu more
I have two older higher end IPS displays. Mind you they're 10 - 12 years old at this point. but I'm in the market for some replacement panels.
I have been considering the ASUS TUF gaming VG27WQ1B to replace them.
Are VA panels any good? Do they burn in? Its for a WFH, work station setup. Multimedia, CAD / CAM and maybe potentially some gaming too. A RTX 4090 will be behind them.
Thanks for the help. Suggestions also appreciated :)
Hello! Apologies if this is a question you hear every day.
I've started a new job recently and now I have three PCs at my desk (work, personal, gaming). My current setup is an Acer Predator XB271HU on the left and a Dell U2715H on the right.
When I play games, I tend to only used the Predator monitor. Otherwise, I use both monitors. However, the Predator only has two inputs, so I cannot easily connect all three of my machines to this monitor. Additionally, it has never supported ddcutil so I cannot change brightness or inputs from the command line, which has always been a bit of a pain.
As a result, I'm looking for a 27" 2560x1440 IPS panel with decent colors and a refresh rate at or above 120 Hz with at least three inputs, ideally at least two DisplayPort and at least one HDMI. The Dell U2715H has two of each kind, which is ideal, but it's also 60 Hz, which is not.
I'd primarily use the monitor for coding and web-dev type things, but would also like to be able to game on it without terrible ghosting, and I would like the colors to not be absolutely atrocious. It would also be very nice if I could use ddcutil to at least switch inputs and change brightness. Finally, it would be nice if it had some USB ports, both on the bottom and the side. That's not a hard requirement, as I could add another USB hub to my desk, but it would be convenient.
Ideally I'd keep this under $1000, but I could stretch a bit higher for the ideal panel. I plan to keep this monitor for 5 to 10 years. I'm in the USA.
Thanks!
