Bought an almost new IQUNIX SLIM 108 Blue switch keyboard from Kjiji by a low price
Is it good quality and durability and software and switches clicks then HyperX Alloy Orgins Mechanical Keyboard
I saw this keyboard on keychron website today, although it was out of stock but couldn't find any reviews regarding this keyboard. I mean it's k2 max and as for my knowledge keychron's k2 keyboards are famous...so why this isn't?
My office wanted to throw this out since it’s gathering dust in storage so I’m contemplating on snatching it…should I?
Hi everyone, I am currently procrastinating on a History paper due later tonight, so I thought I would do a write-up for an old board that no one will read. TLDR at the bottom.
I have been building boards since early 2019, and have built 12 so far. Most have been budget builds, but some have been fairly high end. Since it was Black Friday, I decided to splurge and buy a barebones kit of the Keychron Q8 for $70. Since my last build was a Neo Ergo earlier this year, I thought it would be a good comparison of two relatively budget brands. For this build, I went with cheap PBT keycaps and Wuque WS POM+ switches.
Pros:
The Keychron Q8 comes almost perfect out of the box. Stabilizers are almost all perfect, except for my right spacebar, which rattled a bit.
Hotswap. I love hotswap boards, and for a board made for a more mid-price to budget market, I think it is appropriate here
Beautiful coloring. I love the blue it came in!
Cons:
It’s Too complete! While some people may see this as a pro, I think it just comes too finished, and barely lets you tinker and make the board your own through the building process. While it is nice that the stabs are pre-lubed, it makes it hard to recommend for people looking for the full keyboard building experience.
Hollow Sound. One thing I’ve noticed from past Keychron builds is that all of their metal boards are a little hollow sounding. While in past boards I was able to fix this with a thick layer of foam behind the PCB, this case is a little too small to fit more than a few sheets of ultra thin foam.
Plate came bent. While this may not be the case with every Q8, my board’s plate came a little bent, leading to some of the switches not fitting properly and not working. It was an easy fix, I just took it apart and bent the plate back slightly, but still something to keep in mind before you start plugging switches in.
Lacks the tenting of the Ergo. Another personal con, I prefer the slightly tented typing experience of the Neo Ergo compared to the flat layout of the Q8. While there is nothing offensive about the typing experience, it just doesn’t feel as complete as the Neo Ergo
Price. While I think it was worth it for the Divinikey sale price of $70, a full price of $189 puts it well above the Neo Ergo, which can be obtained with a hotswap PCB for $135. Overall not a horrible price, but above what competitors are charging.
Doesn’t come with a hex key. Very minor gripe here but considering I had to take the board apart to get it to work, it would be very nice to have a hex key included.
Conclusion:
Overall, I think it is a good board that works well and types relatively well too. However, I do still think the Neo Ergo is a better deal, providing a better bang for your buck with more features for a cheaper price. If it comes to choosing between the two boards, I generally agree with the common choice of taking the Ergo over the Q8. However, if you come across a sale like this Black Friday, don’t be scared to pick one up for a decently good board!
Overall Rating: 7/10
TL;DR: Good board that comes pretty much complete out of the box (minus switches and keycaps), but struggles to compete with the Neo Ergo, which is cheaper, better looking, and more customizable. Not my favorite build, but worth it if you can get it at a discount.
