I haven’t seen any announcements elsewhere, (though to me I agree she probably should retire from playing from the Matilda’s) I was just wondering if anyone had seen any other updates on this? https://au.sports.yahoo.com/sam-kerr-issue-laid-bare-as-matildas-coach-calls-out-four-year-failure-for-australian-team-212202490.html?utm_source=Content&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Facebook&utm_term=Sport&ncid=facebook_facebook_k0cpmc7b04w&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3VP3F5ruhTwlipdA25uzbqjX76mr9GqUExljnxCEHaI1RjL27yLk8BlpU_aem_yMLTd273rnSJZyJ5bgAKlA
I accept that sometimes people have bad games but overall it appears Redditors are biased towards the three Arsenal Aussies and seem to downplay the three Spurs Aussies (even Raso). And then whenever someone mentions that both have good and bad games and that all six played well this series they attack them and say they're just clout chasing or just a fucking idiot.
Please don't become toxic Matildas fans. Arsenal fans are already painful enough with their death threats and personal attacks.
Was a big fan (I have a #10 jersey in fact) but the more I watch her the more I realise she isn’t great. She immediately kicks the ball away the second she gets it and often seems to kick it just to get rid of it and not be in possession.
I can’t understand why she is so frequently captain and a starting player? There are so many more skilled players- even the newbies who showcased last night appear to be more invested in the game and have more advanced skills.
10 weeks or so until the She Believes Cup in the US. Given that the She Believes philosophy is a lot about giving opportunity, why not take basically, the squad from last night? No one seems to be able to beat the US at their party in their own back yard anyway, no matter who turns up, and according to many, Matilda's really need to gain some depth in the squad.
Outside that window, WSL-based players will be busy with league, UWCL, FA and Conti stuff, so why not take the opportunity? Just add a few players from the European - based teams that aren't getting regular game-time with their clubs.
There'll be flack from the usual quarters about not taking the best team, but that can be smoothed over later on.
It's a one-week round- robin affair against USWNT, Japan and Columbia. So a variety of playing styles.
On the whole, Andy Harper's commentary is prone to overstatement. I actually find the before and after game stuff on 10 a little cringeworthy and embarrassing a lot of the time, and Sundays' post-game performance in particular, was notably dumb. As much as this link is the usual Nine clickbait (and they're nowhere near as dodgy as 'Code' for example), Harper's awkward interview question to Meeks after the Sunday game is referred to here. He basically said to her '...how good are Brazil...'? Initially taken aback by the question, Meeks responded diplomatically that they were a team of Marta's. But clearly they weren't that good, in fact they were bullies.
In the same virtuosic performance, Harper claimed that the lack of goals - (though not exclusively) had a lot to do with Razzler and Foordy's poor shooting. He then states that the onus is on them to improve, and then tried to throw down the challenge to them - '...it's now on the public record...'.
Harper's delusions of grandeur aside, I'd offer that the Tillie's frontline presently is a problematic affair. It also occurs within the context of the much- discussed dearth of top-level strikers in Australian football- both men and women. For my money like always, those 2 players gave 110% across those 2 games, wore a lot of crap from Brazil, and basically played themselves into the ground, under an interim coach, whose stated intention is to develop depth.
Harper knows all that, but for some reason, can't help but extrude odious diarrhoea.
Why is he there?

The Matildas squad for games against Chinese Taipei in Melbourne and Geelong has been confirmed, with squad numbers also locked in for game 1 tomorrow. Charlotte Grant, Clare Hunt and Daniela Galic have all been named in the squad, but they will depart on 5th December to return to club football so will not be in the squad for game 2 on Saturday.
With the big screens in the capital cities, parades through the city etc, last year's women's football WC in Australia/NZ was one of the high points of women's sport in this country. Hype it, and they will come. The report also highlights the fact that the majority of coaches, journalists etc still, are men. It's worth noting however, that the level of coverage that the WWC received, was merely typical of that given to AFL, RL (State of Origin in particular) on a regular basis. Coverage of top-level women's sport is still abysmal generally.
I know that no-one buys newspapers these days, but on Saturday 29th October, I happened to buy that morning's Sydney Morning Herald. It's a big paper. For context, Tillie's had played a 1-1 draw with Switzerland 2 days previously and were preparing to play Germany that weekend. The Australian women's netball team were in the middle of a tight 4- match Constellation Cup tournament with NZ. The AWFL season was starting that weekend. There were probably women competing in golf and tennis tournaments around the world. Sadly, out of 15 pages devoted to reporting on sport, there was NOT ONE single story about women's sport.
It puts many of the problems related to the growth of women's sport, and that relates directly to the development of depth within the top- level of women's teams, into context.
If you hype it, they will come. Women's sport won't grow if it's ignored in the media. Given this situation, it's amazing that 18 months after the world cup, that the Tillie's still manage to sell out stadiums.
Why do the comment sections make it look like Australia hates the Matildas (read any comment section other than on the official account and you'll see what I mean) but according to viewership ratings they get millions of viewers most of whom are young and thus the demographic that uses social media the most?
Matildas fans come from all walks of life, male, female, all different backgrounds, straight, gay, all different political views, all different age groups, etc so it can't really be that. Just read the comments on news posts when Sam Kerr announced that Kristie Mewis was pregnant, people hated on her and made homophobic comments.
Why? I get that people are cunts but still.
Edit: looks like I'm getting downvotes. Is it because I said I'm a Liberal man who supports the Tillies or because you think I'm a cunt?
I think we played better today and many players like Hayley Raso, Caitlin Foord, Ellie Carpenter, Charli Grant, Kyra Cooney-Cross, Sharn Freier and Daniela Galic played quite well, I don't think we did the best we could.
Don't get me wrong, Brazil were rough as fuck and spent half the game time wasting (plus the ref last game was obviously supporting Brazil), but surely we could've played a bit better. We haven't lost to Brazil since 2016 and now we've lost to them back-to-back AT HOME? Sure Brazil were the Olympic silver medalists but still.
Looking at the scores of the past few friendlies under Tom Sermanni we need to do better:
Now we play Chinese Taipei (a less experienced side) with some of our less experienced players as the good ones have clubs back in Europe to go to.
Personally I think we need a manager who's won the World Cup, the Euros and/or the Champions League. We are getting world class players so we need a world class manager to go up against world class opposition. Whoever the new manager is he or she needs to be excellent.
We can't keep doing badly because otherwise we will lose the fans that the team are thankful for and love, the fans that joined to cheer on the Tillies at the World Cup and continue to support us today. We can't lose them. We can't become the USWNT and become an activist team either.
Please share your thoughts in the comments. Go Tillies.
Such a let down todays game was. Brazil basically spent the whole game injured. Was the worst game I have ever watched , and that is alot . Never again will I think of a Brazillian the same again. Life 😅
“Mary Fowler has stepped away from the upcoming Matildas matches to prioritize her mental and physical health. The demanding schedule has taken its toll, and she's wisely choosing to rest and recover. It's so important for players to recognize when to pause and focus on their well-being.”
“WOW 🙌 𝟏𝟓 Ninja A-League players have been included in the Commbank Matildas squad! 🇦🇺
Australia will face Brazil and Chinese Taipei later this month in the final international window of 2024.”
