I’ve been using this deck for a while and im wondering if theres any cards i should consider axing so any suggestions on what cards to lose/add?
Hello!
I'm looking to get back into the game with a sealed only challenge run. Originally I was thinking about doing it with a commander precon and going from there, but upgrading those decks requires some fairly old hard to get sets, so I'll most likely change to a standard run. For standard, the idea is to open a booster box for the original deck, and slowly upgrade it week by week by cracking some more packs. With this in mind, what dou you think is the best standard legal set to start with, as in, which set has the most relevance in the meta right now?
Thank you!
So I've only returned to MTG fairly recently after a long hiatus, being brought back to the hobby by the popularity of the EDH format. Started with cracking some boxes/packs to build up my collection and then started to expand on this by buying some singles from sellers on Cardmarket. First just buying some fairly inexpensive (max 5 euro) cards which all arrived just fine (11 orders total) in the span of a few weeks.
Couple weeks back I bought my first expansive card, a reserve list card valued at 25 euro. This card never arrived although a photo of the envelope was preannounced via the app of the mail delivery company (so I know the trusted seller did actually send them). I put in a complaint about it to the mail service and then proceeded to buy another card valued at 20 euro. This card should have arrived on Friday/Saturday (again photo of the envelop was preannounced) but also this one never arrived.
At this point I'm just not able to trust whomever delivers my post anymore. It feels like they must have seen a sudden influx of envelopes being delivered at my place (I never used to receive much or any post via mail) and maybe they managed to see through the envelope on the last two shipments and been able to identify it as Magic card shipments. I also did do a round through my entire street to check with every neighbour of they received anything but alas, I do also live in a neighbourhood where I am rather positive a misdelivered letter would find it's way to the right address.
I kinda feel that there is very little as a receiver that I can do about this situation other than stopping to buy any singles from Cardmarket that are shipped out in unregistered letter's. I put in complaints with the postal service but how will they ever be able to proof what happened to those envelope's. It must be so easy for delivery people to just make some shipments disappear as long as you don't make it too crazy.
I'm not entirely sure how to handle this situation now. The seller of the first order gave me a 50% refund, which I do think is sort of fair as I don't doubt that they actually send the order, but on the other hand I am paying for products that I'm not actually receiving. Should the full liability here be on the seller? (kinda feel bad for the seller if that is so but then again they might still be making a profit at 50% refund and I am left paying for nothing)
I haven’t played magic in many, many years. I used to go to the card store when I was a kid during the “Revised” era in the mid 90s. We used to buy booster packs and starter decks and create our own decks. Now I see mostly premade decks in the stores such as Walmart. Do standard booster packs with totally random cards of the older days still exist? Back then there was just regular gameplay. Use whatever cards you want (no more than 4 for most and 1 for others and some totally banned) Now I see “Commander,” “vintage” among many others. How does someone like me get back into it?
I'm finally back to posting after being on vacation and having some family stuff pop up. Saw a ThrabenU video showing the synergy of Saw in Half with goyfs and just had to give it a shot. Made a few minor tweaks to Phil's list and took it for a spin. The deck was a blast to play. I am aware my frame was off after I had finished recording so I'll get that fixed for the next video, buy as always any other feed back is always appreciated. Thanks for watching
Just paid 60 bucks bc they had 20% off of toys!
So. If I have panharmonicon out already and I play the one ring, would I have 2 separate instances of protection from everything that burn at one time? Or would I get 4 turns of protection from everything.
This is a place for asking simple questions that might not deserve their own thread. For example, if you have a question about a rules interaction, want sleeve and accessory recommendations, or suggestions for your new deck, then this is the place for you.
We encourage that you post any questions that you may have concerning Magic the Gathering here rather than make a separate thread for each question, though for now we won't require that you do so.

Rules questions and interactions are allowed to be posted here, but if you need an answer quickly it may be best to use a dedicated resource like the 24/7 Magic the Gathering Rules Chat.
Deckbuilding Questions
If you're trying to get help with a deck, it is recommended that you post your decklist to a deckbuilding website so that it is easier to view. Some popular sites are Aetherhub, Archidekt, Deckbox, Deckstats, Moxfield, MtgGoldfish, and TappedOut.
Additionally, please include some description of what you are trying to accomplish. Don't just give us a decklist with no explanation, and don't ask extremely vague questions such as "what cards should I add to my deck to make it better?", because it's hard to give good advice in those cases. Let us know details, the more the better. Are you building with a particular strategy or theme in mind? Are there any non-obvious combo lines or synergies that people should be aware of? Are you struggling with a particular matchup, or are you finding yourself missing consistency in an important area, and need some help specifically for it? Let us know.
Commonly Asked Questions
I opened a card from a different set in my booster pack, is this unusual?
Don't worry, this is completely normal. If you opened a set booster, you have a small chance of obtaining a bonus card from a previous set. This is an extra card that does not replace any of the other cards in your pack, and is from a curated set of past hits that Wizards of the Coast has selected, which they call "The List".
You can view the contents of The List on Wizards of the Coast's official website. For example, the contents of The List for Streets of New Capenna boosters can be found here.
My foil card has a shooting start symbol over the bottom left. I can't find anything about it online.
All old-bordered foils have the shooting star symbol. Most sites that display card images just overlay a generic foil graphic over all foil cards, which doesn't include the shooting star. Your card is normal.
Hi, as I said I'm new to magic and I bought a starter kit to get used to playing and all that, but I don't know if that kind of decks are viable to compete and have chance to win if I want to play at my local store. If not, I would thank any recomendations.
I have a WPN store and I'm looking to get a mural painted in the shop. Anyone know if I can use, for example, Lillian fighting Chandra and some mana symbols or some mox gems on the mural? Or would wizards take away my premium for using their characters and symbols? Any ideas or tips will help. Thanks!
i know we as mtg fans tend to be really negative (whether it's because of us or because of wotc's questionable decisions is debatable) and so i thought it would be nice to see what people are liking about mtg right now!
for me i'd say im really into the actual mechanics of cards right about now, cards seem to be really fun to play with as of recently, also i think the art right now is great.
We can all agree that there are loads of things in MTG that really piss us all off, for example, a turn 2 [[Rhystic Study]], gggrrrrr!!!
Or ‘that guy’ that just grabs your cards without asking!
But I found out the other day that nothing gets under my skin more than when some psycho taps by turning their cards to the left. WTAF!!!
Q: What are the (irrational) things that really grind your gears? (And I’m not talking about your mates Sliver deck).
Just wanted to verify to make sure everything works right.
I have Rendmaw, Mortuary, Into the Pit, Ornithopter and Memnite out.
I sac Memnite to something and Mortuary causes it to go on top of my deck, or i just so happen to topdeck the Memnite. either way we need a 0 mana creature on top of the deck.
I can look at the Memnite on top of my deck and play it by sacrificing Ornithopter and paying 0 due to Into the Pit.
Memnite hits the battlefield, Rendmaw generates birds all around because a 2-type card was cast, Mortuary puts Ornithopter on top of deck when it hits the graveyard.
I can look at the Ornithopter on top of my deck and play it by sacrificing Memnite and paying 0 due to Into the Pit.
repeat until birdpocalypse?
I was working on a Rendmaw deck and seeing how many dual-type cards I can play in a turn when I noticed the finitely huge loop with Mortuary, Into the Pit and my cheap artifact creatures.
as long as you have 2 "free" to cast creatures, one in play and one on top of the deck, you should be good to go for any arbitrarily huge number of enters and leaves triggers.
I was also thinking of adding this to a potential Orzhov Cleric Aristocrats deck with Edgewalker reducing the costs of the one white or one black clerics to 0.
Im not sure if is worth to buy the $100 ticket instead de $50. Or if there will be a lot of people to have fun 🤔
So I was playing a game with a buddy, now it’s been quite some time since I played but I’m pretty sure this isn’t correct. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
He played a commander card that was able to “tap” my commander card. Now as you can see the tap ability states that I get a clue token and then I’m able to sacrifice that token and draw 2 cards. I understand that I must tap a mana to do so on my turn but if he taps my card doesn’t that still apply without needing the mana?
So I'm so new to Magic that I'm not even a Magic fan, rather a Pokemon TCG fan, but that hasn't stopped YouTube from shoving Magic videos down my throat. Recently I watched a Spice8Rack video on whatever bullshit they wanted to make a video on, and I saw that there was a card with like ★/1+★, and now I want to see a list of all cards like that. I have no idea how I would even go about doing that, so I would greatly appreciate any help.
Where in the actual Duskmourn set are all of these helpful organizations like the House Institute and the Doorblades that were mentioned in the Planeswalker's Guide? I think they get maybe one reference?
It really does feel like the Planeswalker's Guide was written about a completely different Duskmourn to what we see in the set itself, and maybe even to what we see in the official fiction. I mean Idk.
Im sure the majority of people here have made a regretable purchase in the hobby, whether it was a shiny new box that ended up being a dud, or maybe you bought a very high priced single that you may not have needed and had second thoughts.
Please share your painful story and or stories
Not only would this spare us confusion when old and new cards are played together, but have the happy effect of making a lot of old cards potentially playable in 2024.
Edit: to be clear, the main reason for doing this would be so we don't have to contend with face down cards, some of which have Ward and some of which don't, for the next two years. Buffing old unplayable cards would just be a pleasant side effect.
Could someone tell me the difference between a draft booster, set booster & jump start booster?
I’m new to MTG and this is confusing me 😂
I feel like you go on tcgplayer and try and buy a deck and it’s like 6 packages, $1 shipping on a number of cheap commons from separate stores; card kingdom and everything is more expensive and they don’t have all the cards you need. What do you use for building a deck?
I had a question about ward so say I have Sauron the dark lord and my opponent wants to play murder targeting Sauron so if I’m correct murder goes on the stack then on top of that Sauron’s ward trigger so they would have to sacrifice a legendary creature or artifact say they have one legendary creature out can I in response to Sauron’s trigger cast a murder targeting their creature and they have no response to my murder and then it resolves and they lose their creature and their murder gets countered by the ward cost for Sauron not being paid and similar if I had something with ward 2 and they go to tap their sol ring to pay the ward can I in response destroy their sol ring
Hey fellow nerds!
Not trying to throw any shade, simply trying to see how the whole system works. I started the hobby not too long ago (a couple months) and I'm all in. Been getting booster displays, commanders, playmats, boxes, everything. My LGS has gotten so much money from me over the past while, alongside my wife, folks, and a couple IRL friends. I play at their events probably 3-5 times a month so far and plan on continuing that. I definitely want to continue supporting them financially so they'll keep doing their thing, but I'm not sure if their math is normal for a LGS or if they just have an odd business model.
I've recently returned some singles (I had acquired from Duskmourn draft nights and a few boosters from this very store) hoping for store-credit I could put towards the Foundations boxes when they come in. I had priced $125 in cash value on 5 cards based on MTGplayer, and knew the LGS had a rough store-credit amount of 40% value (based on a couple employees). Expecting them to potentially lowball an offer, I stated I wanted $60 with the plan of settling on $50. They didn't even offer $35.
This is fine, businesses gotta do what businesses gotta do. But since I'm primarily a player and not a collector (and mainly a sealed player at that, outside of Commander precons), these $20+ cards don't really do anything for me. I'm now looking at one card on their buy-list for $3 of store-credit that I just sold on TCGPlayer for $20.
Why do they have such a big price discrepancy? Is this normal across most LGSes? When getting booster displays, why does it seem like I can consistently get a better deal off Amazon by $20-30? I think my local store is a WOTC preferred store, so I'd think they'd get better deals but idk how the industry works.
Hey fellow planeswalkers!
My brother recently sent in most of his collection to Card Conduit in order to liquidate most of his collection for personal reasons. I've been talking with him about it for a while (and bought some of his cards as memories) and I know he was excited to cash in on some of his valuable cards (like [[Edgar Markov]] and some secret lair cards. He has spent the better part of a month organizing his cards, packing them up, and finally sending them in. He wasn't expecting full value and knew he would already take a financial hit for the convenience of the service, but he knew roughly the amount he should receive and was looking forward to it.
That was until they finally received his cards. They marked almost his entire collection as "moderately played", including Edgar and the Secret Lair cards I know he hasn't played with and helped him double sleeve.
It turns out that they are claiming that "roller scratches and production defects" can make a card moderately played. I could definitely see marking some cards as lightly played in some cases, but I went through all of these cards less than 2 weeks ago and didn't notice enough issues to consider them as such. I understand their logic, but it feels very scummy. I've sold to Card Kingdom frequently and never had equivalent cards ever marked lower than lightly played.
I'm not sure what to make of it all, but I'm very angry for him and completely put off of Card Conduit now. As a result, I decided to make this post to help warn others of this possibility. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I've always had a positive impression of card conduit since they sponsor a lot of channels, but this is the first experience anyone I know has had with them and it doesn't look good to me.
TLDR: Card Conduit marked many of my brother's unplayed cards as "moderately played" due to "production issues & roller scratches" which feels very disingenuous to me. Seller beware.
I sold off some of my singles over the last few months for store credit to card kingdom.
I have absolutely no idea what to get.
There is no specific card I need, I don’t play all that often and my friend group is the most ultra casuals you’ve ever seen. I have 10-15 precons and that’s generally what we play with once a month or so.
I go about once a month to my local shop and do a draft.
I have 2 full booster boxes sitting in my closet for whenever I can convince some friends to do a draft (not likely).
I’m at a bit off a loss for what to do with this store credit. Spend it on some single dual land I’ll probably never use? Buy some sealed lotr packs because that is why I started playing last year?
Any suggestions would be fantastic…
