hello everyone, after a good 14 years i am returning to the world of magic. i have come to know of a small group that meets to play every Friday. with this i was looking for a precon to start to then slowly create my own themed deck on my own.
i saw that there are dozens and dozens of decks all different and i wouldn't know where to start looking. over the years the game has developed and evolved but i remember playing fly, tokens where you boosted.
is there anything thematic? i have never been much fun of black or red but i might change my mind
Hey guys
i need help with building a strong deck. I wanted to go with an Phyrexian tribal deck and was unsure if I should pick atraxa praetors voice, omnath locus of all or brimaz blight of oreskos.
Finally I am with Omnath locus of all. I tried to build a deck which does not focus infect/toxic as a main theme. I wanted to include praetors, phyrexian tribal and incubate.
Here is the decklist:
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/2yx0xfZJU06p0vrCkDe0Qg
It would be nice if some of you can help me to optimize it and increase the power.
Hi everyone, i'm trying to build a casual deck based around keyword counters. I was thinking of [Indominous rex, alpha] + [Contractual safeguard] to share counter to other cards, other ideas are [Blue, loyal raptor] or [Denry klin, editor in chief] to share counters when i play other creatures. But i'm not really sure, does someone have any tip or idea to make this work?
Deck so far: https://deckstats.net/decks/193168/3772194-dinocounters
I just got the doctor who timey-wimey deck it costs a lot of money my question is should I single or dubble sleeve ?
Simple enough ask here. I haven't done many drafts (in truth, only one ever), but I'm considering signing up for one tomorrow (Friday the 13th). I primarily play red, but I'm flexible enough to play most colors/combinations. It's a Foundations draft, but I'm worried my lack of experience will hinder me. Any tips/guidance?
Hello and thank you in advance whoever answers this.
Scenario: I have LJF and a Three Tree City on the field.
If I activate LJF’s ability and exile cards from target opponents graveyard, there are creatures among them. Since those creature cards become mercenaries, can I name mercenaries with Three Tree City, then use that mana to cast the exiled creature cards?
Is there a dinosaur commander where you can use all 5 colors? Or any other card that will synergize well with dinosaurs?
Amonkhet is one of my favorite planes from a worldbuilding and lore standpoint and I'm very excited to return to it, as the original set came out almost a decade ago, some details mY be fuzzy, and that's okay because I'm here to help!
So, when the Mending happened, planeswalkers (as in the characters, not the card type) lost a big portion of their powers. Nicol Bolas, sensing his imminent nerf, went to Amonkhet (a plane were the dead come back to life as undead), eradicated everyone older than a toddler (yeah for real), sealed/destroyed the gods, and then put the 5 AKH gods in place (Oketra, Keftnet, Bontu, Hazoret, and Rhonas) to run things, most had their memories wiped, except Bontu who knew of Bolas' plan and was working as a secret agent of sorts
Other gods were warped by Bolas, being turned from animal headed gods into insect stye gods (hence, scarab/scorpion/locust). This is why those gods look like decaying bodies with a giant insects placed were their heads were, as opposed to the other Amonkhet gods.
As time passes, the mummies of the plane work like "robots", with commands "programmed" into their cartouches. They do everything from growing food to taking care of children. They handle all the manual labor so that the people of AKH can focus on training and becoming the ultimate warriors. Then Bolas orchestrated for the trials (a practice that originally happened once every several years) to become a common occurrence. Those who failed the trials got turned into mummies, and those who won were stabbed in the face by Hazoret, encased in lazotep (this cool nesr indestructible blue mineral), and buried in a special tomb.
The plane has 2 suns and they believed that when the suns met, it would signal return of the God Pharaoh, who of course was Nicol Bolas. The suns align, Nicol Bolas shows up, and it's time to break stuff
Durring the events of Hour of Devastation, Bolas arrives back to Amonkhet, raises his 3 gods (Scorpion, Locust, Scarab) and has them destroy the other gods, take down the protective barrier that stopped Amonkhet's undead horrors away from the city, and raise/lead the army of Eternals (the champions of the trials encased in Lazotep)
Scorpion god does away with Kefnet, Oketra, and Rhonas, before being taken down by Djeru (we meet him in the story. He a cool dude). Bontu is all "i was working for Bolas the whole time!" And Bolas goes "yeah well you outlived your purpose" and ends her. Hazoret loses and arm but survives and flees to the desert protecting the survivors. Also, and bunch of mummies break free and show some level of sentience/hierarchy. The Gatewatch fight Bolas and get completely wrecked. they each have like a side adventure in Dominaria, except Jace who got sent to the prison plane of Ixalan
During the events of the original Aether Revolt set, Tezzeret (working for Bolas) steals the Planar Portal, a device that allows objects to travel through dimensions/planes. During the events of Ixalan, Tezzeret steals the Immortal Sun, which was a magical artifact that stopped planeswalking away. Jace has a romance with Vraska, regains all his memories (even the ones he lost as a kid), wipes Vraska's memory to protect her from Bolas, and planeswaka away.
In War of the Spark, Bolas sends a signal across the multiverse to get all the walkers to show up, then activates the Immortal Sun to stop anyone from escaping, then opens up the Planar Portal with his army of Eternals (including Eternal versions of Rhonas, Kefnet, Bontu, and Oketra) to defeat planeswalkers and steal their sparks using the Elderspell. That's where we lost Dack Fayden and Domri (who was working for Bolas and then outlived his use. It's a running thing). Gideon kills God Eternal Rhonas using the reforged Blackblade, rides Rakdos to go after Bolas and fails.
Niv Mizzet (killed by Bolas before the invasion) is resurrected through a ritual led by Nissa involving representatives from all 10 guilds. He comes back as 5c Niv, who then burninantes Kefnet.
Liliana is forced to work for Bolas cause of a clause in her demonic contract (basically she was bound to 4 demons. She killed them all and Bolas showed up like "yeah the fine print says if the demons die, you default to belonging to The contract broker. Aka me).
She realizes that she would rather die than follow Bolas and turns on him (watch the War of the Spark trailer. It's still really good! Bolas tries to burn her to a crisp, Gideon sacrifices himself so she can survive, and she is able to control Oketra and Bontu to turn on Bolas and use the elderspell to despark him. Bolas destroys Oketra. Niv Mizzet distracts Bolas using Hazoret's spear to stab him, Bontu bites Bolas and absorbs all the sparks he had been harvesting, and explodes. Bolas is banished to house arrest in his meditation realm, with his twin brother Ugin keeping watch. After the Immortal Sun is turned off, Liliana flees, gets chased, moves to Arcavios, and takes up a job teaching under the name Professor Onyx.
Some time later Phyrexia does its multiverse-wide invasion using a corrupted World Tree. Hazoret (now with a cool Lazotep arm) teams up with Djeru to fight the invaders. As they go seek refuge in the city of Naktamun, they find the scarab and locust gods fighting the phyrexian invaders. After the invasion, the scarb and locust gods basically peace out back into the desert.
Now, 2 years after the Phyrexian invasion, Amonkhet is one of the 3 planes hosting the Ghirapur Grand Prix, and will be participating in the race. One of the teams from Amonkhet is a group of mummies so that's cool. Also looks like a couple of the gods that had been previously locked away are and about so now we have Sab-Sunen (frog) and Ketramose (lion)
So anyway that was the story of Amonkhet from the events of the Mending to now after the Phyrexian invasion. Hope yall caught up to speed and enjoyed my recap.
Im playing monored and got some creature on table. Opponent have Sigarda's Aid from the start and on his turn wants to cast Colossus Hammer on his creature using sigarda ability. Can i change sigarda's target on to my creature and equip hammer?
Soooo my son is 8 and fairly advanced for his age, his reading age is above and beyond what it should be and his mental maths are very quick and precise, he currently plays pokemon.
What would be the best way to teach him? Make him a standard decks and play some games? Or maybe make a easy elf tribal commander?
Any other parents have any advice or tips to teaching the next generation?
Any advice would be welcome even easy build decks for him.
My LGS is hosting a sealed booster box event with any standard legal set available for selection. Draft boosters for older sets, play booster for newer sets. Looking for advice on which set to pick. I started playing again with Bloomburrows release. I have a bunch of cards from Duskmourne, Bloomburrow and Foundations already, but I am most familiar with them. Prizing is collector boosters.
I'm trying to find a specific story Mark Rosewater tells. I can't remember the exact details, but the general details are:
-Mark is invited to play against a professional player (I forget who, but in my memory they didn't speak english)
-The pro is playing a deck with [[Maro]]
-The pro is making sub-optimal plays and Mark ends up winning
-Later, Mark realized they were trying to stunt on him by winning with Maro, and that's why they lost.
Edit: Found it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6Ox3YHSYRE Timestamp 27:25
Was wondering if I could zenith for suspicious stowaway/ seafaring werewolf. Only the back side is green. I like being able to zenith for an in lockable creature and being able to pitch it to force of will. If anyone can answer my rules question it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
My 11 year old has been playing MTG for a few years, and it's all the rage at his middle school. I know he's interested in a commander deck, and my direction is vague: "green or red or hydra" is all I've jotted down after hearing him talk about this a bit.
He's got a few decks at this point, cobbled together from booster packs and some cast offs from other friends. He loves all things fantasy (and has read extensively in the genre, including all of the Lord of the Rings books, Harry Potter, Redwall, Dune, etc.). Any guidance for a slightly clueless mom just trying to make sure her kid has a great Christmas morning? I'm open to spending anywhere from $50-100.
Thanks!
Hello everybody :)
I‘m completely new to Magic. For now I‘m playing it on mobile and bought the Foundation Beginner Kit. Both did a good job in introducing me to the whole world. But i’m still learning a lot.
While I really like to play it on mobile I really want to play it with the real cards. It feels better? (At least this was what I felt while I played with the Foundations Beginner Kit). What would you all recommend to buy? I‘m not sure which starter kit I should buy. I mean the ones that are ready to go and to play for like 20 €/$.
These are the ones I could buy/order where I am.
Bloomburrow, Assassin‘sCreed, one from 2023 (don‘t know the name but there‘s a dragon and an angel?) and one from 2021 arena.
While I‘m also interrested in a commander deck, I think I will do this later. Where I live is one near place that organizes every friday commander tournament/playsessions. But as far is I know not „normal formats“. The only downside in all this, is that I have only one friend to play with and I don‘t/can‘t see him much. My BF is not interested, at least not for now. I can still play it with myself to learn amd test I suppose.
EDIT: One other important thing is, that a possible commander deck I want to build later on is one with Lathril. It looks very interesting gameplaywise and I really like the idea of a deck with elves.
I've got myself bloomburrow starter kit. Last time I've played was some 20 years ago with my brother. So you can safely assume I know nothing now. I'm also not planing on playing any competitive games nor even going to lgs to play. Only some casual games with my wife. Anyway after that too long of a intro I'm asking what to do from here. There is so much of the kits boosters and so on that it is daunting, I have no idea which boosters will fit in to it, which are the ones to forget. Obviously other bloomburrow sets will fit nicely but... What do I do now
I watched videos, read about it, etc. but still I cannot understand the difference between Beginner Box and Bundle. We are beginners and never played MTG yet (only online). Bundle is a bit more expensive, but maybe it is worth, but I need to know what is the difference. Thank you.
This is a place for asking simple questions that might not deserve their own thread. For example, if you have a question about a rules interaction, want sleeve and accessory recommendations, or suggestions for your new deck, then this is the place for you.
We encourage that you post any questions that you may have concerning Magic the Gathering here rather than make a separate thread for each question, though for now we won't require that you do so.
Rules Questions
Rules questions and interactions are allowed to be posted here, but if you need an answer quickly it may be best to use a dedicated resource like the 24/7 Magic the Gathering Rules Chat.
Deckbuilding Questions
If you're trying to get help with a deck, it is recommended that you post your decklist to a deckbuilding website so that it is easier to view. Some popular sites are Aetherhub, Archidekt, Deckbox, Deckstats, Moxfield, MtgGoldfish, and TappedOut.
Additionally, please include some description of what you are trying to accomplish. Don't just give us a decklist with no explanation, and don't ask extremely vague questions such as "what cards should I add to my deck to make it better?", because it's hard to give good advice in those cases. Let us know details, the more the better. Are you building with a particular strategy or theme in mind? Are there any non-obvious combo lines or synergies that people should be aware of? Are you struggling with a particular matchup, or are you finding yourself missing consistency in an important area, and need some help specifically for it? Let us know.
Commonly Asked Questions
I opened a card from a different set in my booster pack, is this unusual?
Don't worry, this is completely normal. If you opened a set booster, you have a small chance of obtaining a bonus card from a previous set. This is an extra card that does not replace any of the other cards in your pack, and is from a curated set of past hits that Wizards of the Coast has selected, which they call "The List".
You can view the contents of The List on Wizards of the Coast's official website. For example, the contents of The List for Streets of New Capenna boosters can be found here.
My foil card has a shooting start symbol over the bottom left. I can't find anything about it online.
All old-bordered foils have the shooting star symbol. Most sites that display card images just overlay a generic foil graphic over all foil cards, which doesn't include the shooting star. Your card is normal.
If my commander have:
protection from every color
shroud
indestructible
How can an enemy remove it from the battlefield?
When was the last time this colour pair did well in limited? Never in my memory
I would like to read more about the lore of magic sets, I remember that when I was a kid one friend of mine told me everything about kamigawa and I found it really fascinating, almost like a fable.
Are there any official sources that narrate the lore and events of each main plain?
Recently I started watching some videos about bloomburrow, where can I read something official about the set?
Hi! I have this 60-card deck but since I've been playing more commander lately. I thought about turning it into that.
tried to go to edh, but the only legendary I have is Najal, the Storm Runner
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/zcP3TpL-X0KN18_hZvf-6w
This is a heavily modified Ral, Caller of Storms precon. I don't have much experience making a commander deck or know cards by heart.
Thanks in advance.
