Here is the one sided conversation in question between myself and the moderator(s).
I feel that this is an outright abuse of power, considering the subreddit rules do not say anything about participation in other subreddits. I would understand if I were being racist, homophobic, sexist, or hateful in any way. Reviewing my comment history will reveal I have not acted in such a manor.
For a moderator/ moderation team to set up a bot that monitors subscribers participation is a scary prospect. Moderators should not be able to do what has happened here. Not only that, but to mute me for 72 hours when I question the banning, even though they stated that I could respond to the banning is further proof that I violated zero rules, but instead did something that did not align with a moderators moral compass.
Draconian action by butthurt mods that would sooner ban and mute than have an actual conversation.
This is true jackassery. iBeLive started a subreddit known as /r/SteamIndieSwap. Later he stopped participating in the subreddit after I joined on. He then went to start scamming people, using the fact that he is a mod of a trading subreddit of ~100 as proof that he is not a scammer. We currently have proof of 4 successful attempts, and 1 failed attempt.
When we finally contacted him, we simply asked for him to revoke subreddit ownership to me or okaythenmate. He said 'No', and we have yet to hear from him since.
Due to this, we have had to create a new subreddit (/r/IndieGameSwap), get all our subscribers moved over, copy over the CSS and sidebar, and wait even longer to get our giveaway going.
Edit: Something that doesn't affect iBeLive, but I'm having eye pains from the new CSS.
Recently, many users have been calling out user /u/Mind_Virus for reposting content. In case you didn't know, Mind_Virus is a moderator of many popular subreddits, including the AnythingGoes series of subreddits, which he created, and which includes /r/AnythingGoesNews, /r/AnythingGoesPics, /r/AnythingGoesNSFW, and many others.
So, in response to the users calling him out on reposting content, he created the subreddit /r/ReportTheAssholes, which he uses to post the names of the people calling him out on his reposting. This subreddit is eventually hijacked and a screenshot is posted of Mind_Virus banning a user from the AnythingGoes series of subreddits for repeatedly calling him a karma whore.
Mind_Virus decided that a user calling him out on his karma whoring was pretty bad, so he submitted a post (of the user's userpage) to /r/worstof. This post was removed from /r/worstof because Mind_Virus apparently hadn't heard of the "Don't submit links to userpages" rule that they have in that subreddit. Later that same day, the post Mind_Virus made earlier is itself submitted to /r/worstof.
This all comes to a head when /u/mocotazo, one of the redditors that had previously called out Mind_Virus on his karma whoring, posts a screenshot of the particularly nasty private messages that Mind_Virus has been sending him. Mind_Virus name drops some of the power users and Reddit Admins that he is tight with, and says that he can use them to get mocotazo banned from Reddit.
TL;DR: Mind_Virus gets upset at users calling him out on his chronic reposting, so he brigades against them hard by creating subreddits, posts, and private messages calling them out for calling him out. This one has less to do with him being a mod but it's still pretty relevant because he is a moderator of the popular subreddit network AnythingGoes, and because he has used his capacity as a moderator in those subreddits to ban those calling him out.
Edit: Added some tags to the post.
Everyone dislikes him, except PHOY and RedditNoir. First it was the Karmagate debacle: He removed the AMA of user violentacrez, and in the resulting fallout was revealed to be poweruser ProbablyHittingOnYou. During this time, beloved user Andrewsmith1986 was also removed as a moderator of the AMA subreddit by Karmanaut, and he creates a post to /r/SubredditDrama where he makes public his wish for Karmanaut to step down. After this debacle, Karmanaut removed the AMA of Bad Luck Brian. Why did he do this? My theory is that Bad Luck Brian was Karmanaut's childhood bully.
After this came the Shitty_Watercolour debacle. Karmanaut, in a moment of unfounded stupidity, banned Shitty_Watercolour from posting in /r/IAmA. Karmanaut had already expressed his disapproval of Shitty_Watercolour prior to this via his alt-account, RedditNoir. After massive outrage in the Reddit community, fellow /r/IAmA mod Drunken_Economist reverses the ban of Shitty_Watercolour, but not before being accused of being a Karmanaut alt.
What's next for Karmanaut? Will he go on to take the Most Powertripping Reddit Mod Douche Award? Will a mod come out of nowhere and steal the prize? Post your nominations here with the tag [Nomination].
I'm currently looking for moderators to get this community off the ground. I eventually plan to get this community big enough to vote (yearly or monthly?) on who wins the award of the Most Powertripping Reddit Mod Douche. I also plan to get an actual trophy with the username of that year's winner engraved on it, and, if it's not against the TOS of Reddit, send it to the winner's house.
First off, I need moderators. Just contact me via message or post in this thread if you'd like to apply. I also plan on getting someone to do the CSS (I have no money, but I can pay you in gratitude and pictures of cats), but that is for further on down the line.
So... Let's get the ball rolling!
Edit: I'm also definitely taking suggestions and ideas on how to improve this community. Should we make it a cowboy-themed subreddit? Should we have annual Game of Thrones conventions? Fire away!
