I just misplaced both my AirPods and my laptop charger. I don't know where I lost them 😭. Has anybody maybe found them, or does anybody have an HP Laptop charger I could borrow?
I have applied for a couple positions at Lincoln Labs. One says it is "Under Consideration" and the other I did through a recruiter. The standard application is about a month old and so far the recruiter application is a couple weeks old. I was going to apply for other open positions that I have seen that are available but I don't want to over apply to one place. The job positions are in IT.
How long is the turn around to hear something back? At most places I would have received a rejection letter by now.
Hi everyone I will be pursuing my bachelors in computer science in Germany, I want to choose an university which has an exchange program with mit it's been a lifelong dream to do my undergrad here in some way or another , i couldn't find German universities with a partnership for undergrad exchange programs. So do anyone of you guys know about exchange programs with German unis or you had previously visiting students from Germany. Thanks in advance.
Freshman here. I got a 4 in AP Computer Science A, but let’s assume I was capable of getting a 5 if I actually studied. I have no experience in python but it seems pretty similar to Java except for syntax. Is it worth the extra effort to learn the material better in 6.100L, or should I switch into 6.100A and finish the class sooner?
Hi! I am wondering whether there are students here who drive to Ithaca on the weekends on a monthly basis? My bf is in Ithaca, and I would like to visit him every month. I can pay for gas. Ourbus canceled rides from between those two cities, so we can't use the bus system anymore. I know this is a long stretch, but let me know if anyone is interested.
Hello everybody, i will be visiting MIT as a visiting researcher from europe for a month in mid january. I was wondering if housing is provided by the university? I would appreciate any input.
hi! i’m an undergrad. i am supposed to present at a research conference this semester but unfortunately the presentation interferes with an exam in one of my subjects. what are mit policies about this? can i ask the professor to take the exam at a different time? would they likely be okay with it? btw the research conference is in the same topic area as this subject is so it’s a bit ironic
Sorry, this might seem a bit obvious given the quant-heavy nature of the program, but I could not find an explicit confirmation on the program's website or on Reddit. Please let me know!
so i live in macgregor but often go to next and new vassar for dining. can i bring a non-MIT guest to those dining halls? tried googling but i only get results about guest swipes
Hi all!!!
I am a 22F and new to Cambridge! I am not affiliated with MIT (yet!) but since MIT has a huge population of grad students I thought it wouldn't hurt to post here! I am searching for friends! I've honestly had success in the past inquiring about friends on Reddit so this would not be my first rodeo lol. I like to read, ice skate, play the cello, and listen to kpop (2nd-3rd gen lol). If you are in the same boat or just looking for a friend, hit my line! I love meeting new people and trying new things. (Also if u saw this post on r/cambridgeMA no you didn't).
Anyone who’s very proficient in Python or C/C++ looking to in person/online tutor me. I have very little knowledge in programming with a bit of understanding of different DS & Algorithms. I’ll pay well for your time, if you have a security background then that’s a plus as my work would be tailored to security, but doesn’t really matter just want to be proficient in those programming languages!
I have been selected to attend HackMIT, but I’m having issues finding somewhere to stay, we were told MIT could provide at certain capacity rooms for participants, I’ve yet not been contacted for this, so I’ve gone to research through AirBnB and other platforms, but damn is the living costs in the area so expensive, so I’m looking for advise in where to look or any tips.
I’m planning to stay from September 12 to 18 and my budget is $50 or lower each night.
I just need a phone number to sign up for stuff and to receive OTPs on. Preferably less than 10$ a month and with reliable connectivity here. Any suggestions?
Hi all. I've just finished my master's degree in International Security (joint master's, at three universities/countries) and have somehow knocked it out of the park. I've got the highest grade classification (Distinction), a 4.0 GPA equiv, and I strongly suspect will be in the top 10 - potentially top 5 or higher - of my cohort (out of 99 students). I've never thought of doing a PhD before, but this has opened the possibility of dreaming a bit bigger.
I've seen MIT offers a PhD in Political Science with a concentration on security studies, which - on the face of it - looks incredibly appealing. The ability to cross-register with Harvard for a few modules also sounds like the best of both worlds. That said, I'd love to know more about what the Center for International Studies is like, what doing a PhD at MIT is like, and whether I'm getting a bit too big for my boots of thinking to apply for this. In brief:
I appreciate any help you can give with this. Only other consideration I can think of is that I'm an international student (British). Hope you're all having a wonderful day. :)
looking for more specific strategies than just "do lots of practice" or "attend lecture/ recitation" .
what do you do when you see a problem and don't understand at all
what do you do when you thought your approach to a problem is right but turns out it's completely wrong
how do you ensure you actually really understand everything going on in lecture
what are good ways to organize information into categories/ "guides" or make cheatsheets
i don't have the most amazing math or CS background, took both the prerequisites for this class, but didn't do too well in any both of them. i really think the material is interesting but algorithms is frustrating when i think i know how to do something but it's wrong, or when I'm just completely lost on how to approach a problem. would love some recommendations from people who have done well in this class by studying and putting in lots of effort (as opposed to the IMO IOI kids who are very used to this kind of thinking)
If I am the sole owner or a web Moria list and then my account is deactivate when I graduate, does that list also get deleted?
Thank
I know at some schools like Harvard, you have to go through some sort of application process for almost any club, and often these applications (called “comps”) is quite competitive?
What does that look like at MIT?
So Perplexity.ai is offering 1 year of free Perplexity Pro if you signup with your mit.edu ID. The catch is that the total number of signups need to be more than 500. Even if we don't reach 500, you will still get a month free. It is $20 a month otherwise and it has been super useful for me in my research! Sign up here : https://pplx.ai?utm_source=backtoschool&edu_referral_code=uquw8un&refSource=copy
Hello, we are planning to visit boston on Sep 17th, and it would be really awesome to have someone to guide us on campus. My little sister is planning to apply to MIT upon graduating, so would be awesome if someone could be with us there (even for short time). Any directions for self visiting are also very appreciated.
Hey y'all, I'm a freshman at MIT and I just moved in. I just noticed that my dorm suite doesn't have a water fountain easily accessible to me. Is it safe if I just drink straight from the tap? Thank you
I can't seem to find anything online about when it will open, does anyone know?
Does anyone have a pdf copy of Molecular Thermodynamics, D.A. McQuarrie and J. D. Simon, University Science (1999)? Or if anyone has taken 5.601, is the textbook necessary? Looking to get ahead in 5.601 and grateful for any and all advice/resources. Thanks!
Currently shopping, all the classes I registered for have exams and I need 5 classes to graduate on time so its not ideal at all. Trying to find any Course 6 Grad-level classes without any quizzes, midterms, or finals. I'm fine with projects and essays.
Any help is highly appreciated, if you could list the specific course number that would be perfect.
Does anyone know why it keeps going off for hours lately with no train passing by? I don't live at the junction but I can hear it all the way in Westgate and it's getting annoying even with windows closed. Maybe the reason was only communicated with people living in the graduate junction?
edit: called MBTA and they said they would look into it
They’re free.
So our physical ID is also our CharlieCard, but I don't see a way to add funds to it on Atlas or mycard.mit.edu. Do I add funds on another website? Or do I have to do it in person at a machine?
Honestly, feeling pretty frustrated about these new dormspam rules as it seems like it’s erasing the culture of MIT (and making it extremely hard to inform students about things going on campus). I’m involved in several clubs where are our main form of outreach is dorm spam and not quite sure what we’re going to do now.
Though I know students have the option to opt-in, many of the frosh don’t understand what that means/even knows what dorm spam is. The least admin could have done is inform all students in a school-wide email before instituting these changes. I’m pretty frustrated that the way I found out was through an ASA email to group organizations instead of through admin themselves.
Hello! can absolute beginners join the rifle club for training and practice?
