Where is all the tax money spent on ?

I’m genuinely curious about this question. Everybody says that the government is rich, but IME they are not trying to make things better, they are just maintaining them at the same level. My biggest problem is with the comm*te, this evening, at 8:30pm, CFL actually cancelled the train to the north, while there are very few passengers. They don’t even give a reason for the cancellation. It’s not worth it to improve the transport for us poor people without a car??

Indie hackers in Luxembourg

Hey everyone, I started my indie hacking journey recently and already launched some products.

But I really think that community is key and I would like to meet other indie hackers and build such community in Luxembourg.

If anyone is interested, reach out to me or just reply to this post

Which bowling alley would you definitely suggest for a family ? Is there any with above average food ? Reservations are absolutely needed ?

Thanks !

Is there any store in lux that actually sells pc parts?

Im looking for new/used pc parts (psu, mobo and cpu) but I can’t find a store that actually actually have some in stock. Been looking in hifi and mediamarkt and can’t find anything, neither on facebook marketplace. Could you recommend me some? I don’t like shopping online, i prefer going to the store and buying what I can see before I take it.

Watchmaker

Hello everyone, I wanted to ask if there are some local watchmakers or local watch shops that I can go to? I have an old vintage Eterna Vision watch and I'd like to get it serviced and the crystal repaired. Anyone got an idea?

Carsharing in Luxembourg

Is anyone using carsharing in Luxembourg on more or less regular basis? I tried looking at the options and it seems quite expensive both in terms of price per Km and the franchise. It seems that if one uses carsharing at least once per week for a more or less long drive it does not provide much benefits in comprarison to regular renting or leasing a car, or even owning. Thank you for your feedback.

Anyone wants to learn swimming as an adult?

Hi, if anyone is interested in learning swimming as an adult and cannot find a place as they all fill out very fast, can we get together and hire a private teacher?

Let me know. Thanks.

Futsal training

I used to play years ago, but it’s been a long time, and I’m really rusty now (I haven’t played in about 7 years). Where can I do some basic training to get back into shape/get my reflexes back before joining matches again?

NSPA (OTAN) Luxembourg Avis conditions travail

Magda.

DKV coverage after stopping insurance?

I have DKV insurance, and they're significantly increasing the costs soon. I have until December 11th to cancel, or I'll be stuck with it for another year. I took the insurance out in September 2022, so am I right in thinking that if I don't cancel due to the price increase, I'd need to wait until September 2025 to cancel?

My only concern is that I need to replace a dental crown. If I visit a dentist now and they confirm I need the work while I'm still covered, will DKV still pay for it after I cancel my insurance? Or would I be responsible for it?

Shorten Silver Bracelet?

Hi Luxembourg, I have a silver bracelet which I’d like to shorten… where do I go for this? Do I go to a jeweler or like another store and do you have any recommendations, where I can get this done cheap? Thanks in advance!

I was walking my dog today in Kirchberg...

... And all of a sudden a lady driving a car slows down, takes a photo of me or my dog, waves at me (as I look at her with my wtf face) and drives away... Like what.. WHY would you do something like that?! I know I should have confronted her immediately, but it all just happened so fast. Just so rude.

Tech and Science people: Leave LUX for Zurich?

I am in a privileged position seeking advice and food for thought especially if you’ve lived in Switzerland before and know what it’s like.

Weighing option to move to Zurich for a j0b.

Early 30s, no kids, not a native Luxembourger but obtained citizenship.

Pros of Lux

  • got used to quiet and slower pace of life, comfort zone and knowing local “rules of the game”
  • small circle of good friends, extended network of acquaintances, cosy neighbourhood
  • decent current j0b with work life balance
  • s tate health insurance and free transport (no car, live in city) so offsets COL somewhat

Cons of Lux

  • s@l@ry is low and unlikely to get very high even as career progresses. Tech is not well paid in Lux in general. Not really interested in State j0b at this point in my life.

  • limited opportunity for growth or changing companies. Lux is small….

  • can’t speak French well

  • some weekends are boring and slow

  • food options lacking

Pros of Zurich

  • huge tech scene, lots of opportunities
  • PhD seems valued and appropriately compensated
  • higher s@lary as my specific specialization is in demand
  • big city vibe, food options, many activities

Cons

  • big city vibe, fast-paced very busy and stressful. After luxembourg, it seems like a wild jungle. Crowded.
  • 100% is 42 hours. Workaholic culture.

-high COL with privatised health insurance and transport (though after tax, I would still make 2x more in Zurich than what I would in Luxembourg)

  • competitive environment. Could be seen as a pro too…

PwC - KPMG Offers

Hi everyone,

I have a offer from KPMG and PwC in Advisory, same entry level position for both. I wanted to know what the differences were between the two of them in terms of reputation and how it is for real, and if there was an advantage of working in one or the other that wouldnt be in the contract. And another question, at PwC, is the leasing car catalog big, or is it like a 5 car catalog like at KPMG.

International nursing graduate.

Bonjour tout le monde. J'espere que vous allez bien. My name is Farhan et j'ai 22 ans. Could someone please tell me which recruitment agencies would be good for me ? And what other things would be required to work as a nurse in Luxembourg apres graduation? Or should I pursue a masters in Luxembourg after Bachelors from Cyprus to increase my chances ?

Merci tout le monde !

Subsidy for second hand EV

Hello everyone,

I bought a second hand EV of more than 3y from outside Luxembourg, it will have export plates for some days and after I will register it here. Am I eligible for the new subsidy of 1.5k for second hand véhicules? Or the véhicule should be bough with previous owner in Luxembourg? Guichet is not extremely clear about this point and I have doubts about it.

Thank you in advance for your answers.
