I won't be on reddit very much and I no longer live in Montana. I'd love to find a Mod for the subreddit who can get it going and keep it running. If you are interested, let me know.
I used to live in Libby for many years. Still live nearby, but not in Lincoln Co anymore. I used to be so fascinated by the whispered lore I'd here sometimes. I don't remember much of it. But was wondering if you all have any stories to tell? Legends like how the natives supposedly used to call Libby "the valley of death", in that tone. Dark, creepy, weird, scary legends. Tell me more. Thanks.
Hi, everyone. I know this is a small sub, but I come to you with a bit of an unusual request. I'm a linguistics professor at Brigham Young University in Utah and I'm doing some research right now on Montana English (and English in the Middle Rockies region generally). I'd like to collect some audio from anyone and everyone who grew up in Montana, regardless of whether you feel like you have an accent.
The task would be to find a quiet place and record yourself reading aloud about 200 words and then answer some open-ended questions about yourself and about language. You can just use the microphone built into your phone or computer. The whole thing should take about 10 minutes. (Fair warning: I do ask about affiliation with the LDS church and one of the questions is about whether you think there's a "Mormonese." This is a sort of side project I'd like to explore but it's probably more relevant to people in Utah or Idaho than here.)
If you grew up speaking English, are 18 or older, and have spent most of your life in Montana, I'd be very grateful if you'd take a few minutes and help me out.

There's been very little research on Montana English, so I'm hoping to chart some new territory with this study. I've posted to several other Montana subs already and I'll be making the rounds to any other ones over the next few weeks, but feel free to share this link to other online spaces or to other people you know who qualify.
Thank you!

Hello, Is the road to Leigh Lake trailhead plowed during the winter? Is there a lot of snow still (would I want to bring snowshoes)?
Thank you!
Just wondering if this group is still active.
Damn we got hit early this year, really caught me off guard. What are your guys’ take?
Hello, I am working here in town. Is there any good swimming spots near town? Thanks!
