I have accommodations at college for my disability, most of the time I’m late to class -and it says that on my accommodation I may be late occasionally to class or be absent due to illness, it also states I still have to do my work and I do. My professor told me that I might not get participation points because I come to class late daily..and that she has worked in special education even when I bring up I have an accommodation about the things I tell her about, I feel completely disregarded about this. I’m afraid to say something because this feels wrong?? I also need to be in a distraction free environment during testing and I’m stuck in the classroom during quizzes and it’s end of the semester I feel like it’s pointless..
to start i(19)was speeding at 108 on a highway with nobody in my way(not on purpose i just didn't notice when i did i slowed down) my friend(20) has life 360 on her phone cuz her mom watches her all the time, skip to the next day her mom sees my top speed and comes up to get my friend instead of having me drive which i understand, when they come to get her she gets out of her car, and tells me she was pissed i said i understood then she goes "if i ever catch you going that speed again with my daughter in the car i will beat the fucking shit out of you", ive known these people for 7 years they dont care about their daughter i really dont know why they have to be this way, i offered to talk about it but they started calling be a bitch and just screaming ill beat the shit out of you while driving away.
If i files a report against what they said could i end up getting in trouble for speeding?
I'm gonna keep this short.
I'm a low level social worker and no one at my agency has done this before. We work exclusively with the homeless and there is a particular client who literally won't work with anyone but a single person who took months to get the client to trust him. The client is a serious danger to themselves and others and getting worse and work but because they won't even engage with anyone who would normally pink slip this person, we have to do it.
Here's the rub. We're like 95% sure that the record of the affidavit would have our name(s) and that would completely ruin the relationship we've built with this client and then they will slip through the cracks and almost certainly die this winter IF they get out (unlikely but we need to be prepared to still help if they do).
Can we get a judge to seal the affidavit for the person's well-being under these circumstances? I mean I'm pretty sure it's possible and that it would be up to an individual judge that no one here knows but, humor me, how likely is it?
Thank you for your help
When I was 18, I was a complete moron. I rear ended a driver and was completely at fault. i thought i had insurance, but i got a paper in the mail wanting me to fill out a no insurance affidavit a few weeks ago. i cant login to my old icloud where any insurance information would be. how should i proceed and if i need a lawyer what type of lawyer should i contact? i just dont want to fill out any forms yet. i understand i was at fault and it will be costly but i just don’t want to make any mistakes
What the title says. I just got back from my thanksgiving break and returned to my dorm (i go to a small private liberal arts college in NE) to find that two of my flags that were hung up are missing. I'm very confused for a few reasons, one being that yes we are technically not allowed to have "hung tapestries" as they are a fire hazard and I didn't even think about them being taken down because I did not know that people would be going through our rooms and taking stuff without us there with no note or email whatsoever. Both flags are just gone. Look I completely understand we're not allowed to have them I knew that when I hung them up. However I also had a candle sitting right on my desk that was not confiscated lol so how does that make any sense? I emailed my RA and as I'm writing this she has not gotten back to me. I just don't think this is fair at all whether the items are allowed or not, and I really want those flags back as they were my only decoration.
My 14-year-old daughter missed the first 6 weeks of school due to mental health treatment for depression and self-harm. The program she attended provided an academic advisor to help students stay on track, but reintegration was still a huge challenge.
Before the school year, we spoke with the lead guidance counselor about educational options. She advised us to contact my daughter's assigned counselor before school started, assuring us the school had a distance learning plan for situations like ours. I sent multiple emails to the assigned counselor, and so did the treatment program’s academic advisor. We received no responses. Eventually, we were told my daughter had been reassigned to a new counselor, but still, nothing was done to help.
When my daughter returned to school, she was overwhelmed by the workload. Every teacher except one offered an incomplete to give her time to catch up. The one holdout was her PE teacher, who refused to extend any accommodation and gave her an F. Despite my efforts to appeal and speak with the guidance counselor, nothing changed. The PE teacher even told my daughter she should have prioritized her essays, and when my daughter asked again, the teacher told her it wasn’t her problem that she missed school for medical treatment.
To make matters worse, my daughter’s failure in PE, compounded by the overwhelming academic load, led to a suicide attempt. Fortunately, she survived, but this was the direct result of the school’s lack of support and refusal to cooperate.
I’ve emailed the principal, guidance counselor, and even the PE teacher, but I’m only getting vague, unsympathetic responses. The principal acknowledged the issue but offered no concrete solutions. I’m terrified of her returning to the same environment and facing more setbacks.
We’re a military family, attending a DoDEA school overseas, and there aren’t other schools in the area. I’m considering homeschooling, but my husband and I are both in the military, and I’m not sure how we can manage it long-term.
Do I have any legal options, possibly through the ADA?
Thank you in advance for your insight and guidance.
Hola a tod@s.
On 8/12/24 I received a letter stating I make too much money and my SSDI (51% of my income) would be terminated. They gave me 15 days (10 days plus an allowance of 5 days to receive the letter) to bring proof to the contrary to their office. On 8/20/24, I took all my paystubs in. (I make $15.25/hr and work 25 or less hours per week. The only time I ever go above the income limit is when there are 3 pay periods in a month. However, I'm still in my Extended Period of Eligibility, as I just started this job 2/20/23. As I understand it, I will lose my benefits for those months, but they are not supposed to terminate my benefits unless 36 months have passed after my Trial Work Period. That wouldn't be until 12/1/26.) They had already terminated my benefits on 8/17/24! I immediately filed for Reconsideration. After 77 days (supposed to be 60), I received a letter stating SSA was not able to pay my monthly benefit and I should file for a Reconsideration. Since I'd already done that, I dropped off an application to take my case before an Administrative Law Judge. That was over 2 weeks ago and I have not heard back. They set those cases 75 days out, so that's another 3 months of no benefits. The longer this drags on, the worse my financial situation becomes. I had been planning (for years) to take my two kids (13 & 9) to Disney for 10 days in September. I had to postpone my trip. I lost over $400 because Spirit won't give me a full refund like they're supposed to. (I'm in the process of taking them to small claims court. The Better Business Bureau was useless.) As of November, I can no longer afford to pay my mortgage. My credit score is going to tank. (I'm working with the lender, so hopefully they won't foreclose, but there is no guarantee. I could still lose my house.) I usually spend Thanksgiving weekend and the week between Christmas and New Years with my dad out of state, but I can't this year because I can't afford it. He's 72 and not in the best of health. He's already had open heart surgery once. I'm not sure how much time I have left with him. Getting my benefits back is not the issue. As soon as I go to the hearing, my benefits will be reinstated. I'd really like to sue the SSA for damages. Do you think I can win?
Located in state of NC.
Background: My sister and BIL have not filed formal separation but she is seeing someone (wants to bring him to family holiday). BIL has been moved out for a few months due to the 1 year live apart rule in NC. She is the dependent spouse.
Question: Can my parents get sued for alienation of affection from BIL? If so, is that a serious suit?
My Parents Involvement: they are elderly and have some money (she has none and no job). They are going to sign on an apartment for her and the kids to move out of her house where her and BIL have to occasionally see one another (she is claiming toxic). They do not support her dating, but she is an adult and is known to be secretive / manipulative. I have to emphasize she is an emotional manipulator. I know from what my parents have shared that she was complaining about surveillance from my BIL (presumably to catch her cheating).
My parents mean well but I fear they are entangling themselves in a mess. How concerned should I be and any next steps you advise?
I've never actually been to court before - I'm an engineer, not someone with a legal background. Recently, I've been watching a lot of court proceedings, and I'm fascinated by how defendants often manage to turn bad situations into much worse ones.
From what I've observed, many defendants receive relatively lenient sentences. For instance, some individuals with multiple assault charges only need to check in weekly and sign some paperwork, yet they fail to do even that. Others are assigned minimal community service - just 4 hours - but don't complete it. In one case, I saw a woman whose only restriction was a no-contact order with a specific man. Despite facing a potential 4-year prison sentence for violation, she not only contacted him but ended up pregnant by him.
And I will not even mention how many drug tests they fail.
I'm curious if there's any research examining this self-defeating behavior in the criminal justice system. Are there any studies or statistics about recidivism rates and probation violations? I'd be particularly interested in what criminologists and other experts think about why people often violate seemingly manageable court orders despite serious consequences.
So I started a moving company back in 2019 and ran for 2 years unsuccessfully, I didn't have employees on file. I got some insurance, workman's comp insurance to satisfy the permit requirements for household goods permit. Long story short I couldn't do it it was to expensive. Mind you I started this out of my house, didn't own any trucks just rented and so on but again it never took off. Anways so I didn't need insurance anymore for workmans comp and stopped payment in which they reported to household department as they would anybody for non payment just to notify them and I was no longer covered which was fine. Fast forward 2 years later I get a call from some attorney saying I owe 6k to insurance company bwcuase I didn't finish filling something out but I was unaware of but I thought it was total bs becuase I didn't need it anymore and I just stopped payment. They never did an audit to see that I didn't have employees. So this attorney decided to sue me for 6k plus more fees and sent someone to serve me at an old address I haven't lived at in 15 years. Some random person I don't even know had no relationship to me whatsoever answered the door and they handed him my serving. The court date happened and they awarded this attorney the judgment and he sold it off to a credit company. I only found out by chance becuase my wife and I were looking at some other issues and she just by chance noticed it online. Anways so this credit company called me asking for atleast 500 a month and I said no way could i afford that. They said they would call me back and let me know if I could do 150 which is all I said I could do They called back few weeks later and said can you do 500 again! I said no I can't I cant afford it. Between rent, bills, kids I have 3 to 400 to my name after everything I pay a month. So now I find out they sent another letter to my old address from sheriffs department about a levy on my bank account and myself which I don't have anything regardless. This attorney has mt current address yet he keeps sending me shit to an old address so all this keeps happening with out my knowledge and I keep finding out through having to constantly look out for it. This is so fucked I don't know what to do and this attorney has done this shit to 4 other people almost in the same way. Im stressed as fuck I donno what to do! I tried to make somehting og my life and I'm getting fucked becuase I did t know about submitting or turning in a piece of fuckin paper I still don't know what the fuck it is exactly and how this is happening to me. If anyone knows anything please help!!
Long story short, I made a few character assets for this company that were as corrupt as you could get, and I want to release them for free on Itch.io. So, I'm not making any profit; I'd just like to make it available. I doubt this would be allowed.
If not possible, what I'd like to do is reskin them with adjustments including new clothes, new poses, new expressions, and everything like that.
In my brief contract, the rights are listed as follows:
Artist and Client agree that the following rights shall be transferred from Artist to Client upon receipt of full payment. Artist agrees to the perpetual non-exclusive license of all rights (including, but not limited to, the right to display, modify, transmit, transfer, sell, and create derivative works) to Work to Client, excluding only the right to authorship credit, which is retained by Artist
I did not receive full payment, I only received half on their request because they had somehow twisted the contract from the number of assets to the number of hours worked (against the contract.)
Minimum Spend: $200 USD for a minimum of 10 characters per month. If both client and artist agree, a character slot may be substituted for different art pieces (e.g. background or animation) on a case-by-case basis. Each character will consist of a nude layer, and 3 outfit layers. Each character will have 9 different facial expressions, and a blink expression, male characters will have a flaccid and erect genital version.
Additionally, they call for derivative works which isn't given an extent to what that means. So I'd like to just reboot the characters, or create new characters on a similar wavelength. There shouldn't be an ownership over a certain theme or character archetype.
So if someone could please give me some advice - could I reskin my assets and release them for the public to use without getting sued by some spiteful guy?
Just got my first speeding ticket in Rhode Island, sped up to pass a car on a 2 lane highway and cop was there to see the speed increase. Cop gave me a break and knocked it down to be only 10 over. Since this is my first ticket I’m worried about insurance rates going up so I’m thinking of going to court to use my good driver record to get it changed to a non moving violation but I don’t want to waste the cops good grace. Not sure if I should just pay my fees and be thankful for the cop or to try and fight it for insurance rates. Any thoughts?

Edit 2: Thank you for the helpful advice. I have been unable to locate any criminal case or warrant through the county court's website. When I spoke to someone in the county the charge is from, the only thing I was given is an incident report number. Is that abnormal?
Edit: Is there anyone who can provide advice? I want to know: Is this an 8th amendment violation? Is there a process I can take to get him medicine, while he is inside the jail? His court date isn't for another 2 weeks.
TN - My boyfriend has been detained at the county jail since November 16th and still hasn't received his two prescription antidepressants. His mental health is deteriorating. What do I do?
I spoke with the nursing staff the first week, who said he needed to request his meds in the kiosk. He has put in so many requests that he can't put in more, and still hasn't received them.
A few days later, I left a voicemail for the mental health supervisor and they never got back to me. His mom asked if she could bring his prescription bottles from home and they won't let her.
He is in TN being detained on an out of state warrant. He hasn't been able to speak with his attorney yet, either. The jail website says they only do in person attorney visits and his attorney is in another state.
He has previously been hospitalized for mental health and his behaviors and demeanor are concerning. What can we do to get him proper medical treatment?
Hi guys, is it illegal in Australia to share someone's private information without their consent to cause harm? Someone has dobmne this and is ruining my life and it's causing me great mental grief and struggle. Its ruined a relationship of mine.
Any help is appreciated.
I am a professional woodworker who lives and works in western North Carolina. I am having a dispute with a customer and they have threatened to sue me for the cost of the table and console table I built for them.
Basically, I sent them finished samples with different colors and finishes on them before I even received a deposit. They told me what color they wanted and I complied. But the color they told me was not the same color as the sample I sent them. There were two colors, one on one side of the piece of wood and one of the other side. They mixed them up and want me to fix it (which is impossible, I would have to build both tables again) I have refused to do so because it was not my mistake or fault and they have been a pain in my ass from the beginning.
My question is this: I live and work in NC. The deposit was sent to my Venmo account and it is registered in NC. I delivered the table to NJ and collected the balance in cash in NJ.
What state do they have to use for their suit? NC or NJ?
Thanks
Got pulled over doing 66 in a 45 driving through a town I never drove through before trying to figure out where I was going. When I drove down a hill on a road I thought said 55 and when it was actually 45. Once I realized it I hit the brakes to slow down and got pulled over. Tried to explain myself but it didn’t work. I also got a reckless for 20 over almost 3 years ago and only paid $350, without a lawyer. Is it possible to fight it and not go to jail. If so then how, I’m panicking right now.
In addition; My wife works from home and can’t drive and my daughter doesn’t go to school so I have to take care of her until I go to work. And we can’t afford a babysitter or nanny to help out.
He was in jail 3 times in the past, past 2 restraining orders were dropped , past charges were dropped, but now he did worse and is facing aggravated felony in NJ and another restraining order which I will not drop this time at all. He strangled me and beat me causing nose to bleed etc. I have photos of evident and property damage I heard that because this is his first time it may be dropped or they won’t incarcerate him and allow him some type of probation. Is this true it is domestic violence related. I also read that they are not allowed probation .
Long story short husband persuaded me the first time to act like he loves us. We have a child a baby, but it was just to clear his name. Then he did worse while planning his escape to abandon us. Suddenly, the violence escalated he strangled me etc then packed the laundry bag of his clothes and ran off and I ended up telling the police everything
Hello, I was recently evicted in Massachusetts because the property management wanted to sell the house. When I moved in I gave them $1,950 for security deposit. And never received anything to verify it was put on a separate account. After moving out they sent a bill for over $5,000 in damages such as removal of camper (I took my camper it’s in my drive way) and $1900 for trash left, there was 0 trash left. I believe they came before I moved and took pictures and are basing the move out expense on the picture before I was moved out.
When they sent me my bill there was no intrsted gained on the deposit and they said “ oh sorry that’s our mistake” and added $500 for interest. I asked if I could have the last statement for the account and they didn’t reply.
I have a feeling they did not put the money in a separate account and I’m sure there are others in ma that are getting evicted by them in the same situation.
Any advice here? I’m sending my demand letter tomorrow to get my deposit back!!

My mom owns her house in a rural-ish area. We, along with two other houses and one wooded lot, share a private drive off the main road. For as long as I can remember (20+ years), the adjacent wooded lot has been on and off the market. It's owned by a realty group and I was always told that it never sold because it was land-locked (it is). I've recently learned that someone i know is in the process of purchasing this land and intends to build, and can do so because of an easement that allows him to use our shared drive to access his land. This person has a reputation for shady dealings, so I am wanting to completely understand how this works before I throw in the towel.
What I'm struggling with is the details of said easement. For 20+ years my mom was under the impression that we owned the full driveway, but looking at property lines it appears that the length of the driveway is divided in half. According to the property lines, my mom owns the left half and our neighbor directly south of the wooded lot owns the right half. On the Zillow listing for the wooded lot, it is advertised as having a "private drive", and included in the listing is a photo of the property lines. In the photo, the lot is highlighted along with my neighbor's half of the driveway, leading to the main road.
I understand that the buyer would need an easement to access his land since it is land locked, however I cannot find any sort of record of said easement via the county recorder or any property deeds. It's possible that they could have come to an agreement with my neighbors, however these neighbors are known to be combative and I have a hard time believing that they are aware, because I'm almost positive they would have complained to me. Is it normal for property owners to not be notified of an easement placed on their land? We had a title search done on our property that confirmed there are no easements.
Last thing, this driveway is only 6 ft wide, give or take. Therefore, if they are only granted easement for a width of 3ft (according to the zillow listing), am I accurate in concluding that they don't have the width to get a car up the driveway without technically trespassing onto our half of the drive? I know how ridiculous this all sounds, but unfortunately this buyer is not someone I want living nextdoor and I am attempting to do whatever I can to maintain our quiet way of life.
Background: I'm in Michigan. I owe money to several credit card companies after falling back on them during COVID and have been struggling to pay them off. I am currently unemployed, struggling with diagnosed mental illness which makes it difficult to find steady work, and am living with my family.
A civil court recently ruled that I owe a credit card company about $2000, and today I received a copy of the plaintiff's request for non-periodic garnishment. It says that they know or reasonably believe that I owe them money or property that I am in possession of, and if I don't object the court will take it and give it to the plaintiff. I know I owe them money, that isn't disputed. It doesn't specify if they're seeking money, property, or both.
My concern is, can they garnish property that isn't actually mine just because it's in my home or I "control" it? For example I have a security cabinet in my bedroom for documents and inside are two firearms belonging to family members who have nowhere else to safely store them. They are not mine, and are registered with the state of Michigan to their real owners. There is also a video game console in my sibling's old bedroom, when they moved out they left it behind to use when they visit.
I don't know how property garnishment works, if that wasn't already apparent. I don't want sheriffs to come to my home and just start taking things that belong to my family because of my debt.
Can anyone explain how property garnishment works in Michigan, specifically what they can take and how? I don't actually own anything of value myself anymore apart from a 5 year old laptop that I'd happily hand over. Everything else has been sold to pay off my debts. Thank you.
Is it a law (specifically in the state of New Mexico) that cashiers have to card everyone who is with the person buying alcohol even if they aren’t the ones buying? Had this happen at a grocery store and all I was doing was helping my mom bag. I hadn’t touched the alcohol or anything but they wanted to card me even though I wasn’t buying it. I understand that maybe I looked young, but I wasn’t buying it and what doesn’t make sense to me is that then they sold it to my mom at a different till. If they were worried about her buying it for me, why’d they sell it to her anyway? Also I’m legal age, I just didn’t bring my wallet for a quick run to the store because I didn’t think I needed it.
Edit: first off I don’t appreciate the negativity. I was asking a question. Secondly, no we did not fight them about it. They got aggressive with us when my mom questioned them calmly. Not that makes much difference but these two women were blonde and I’m very obviously a person of color, as is my mom. My mom called the store later to ask about it and she got another aggressive person stating that the two women were right about it being a law which is bs because I researched it. Even so, they sold my mom the alcohol on a different till so if they were worried about her buying it for me why would they sell it to her anyway? Also again I am of age. I did not have my ID because we were just making a quick trip and I didn’t think I needed it. These two women kept staring me down like I was doing something wrong. I never touched the bottle. And at this same store my mom has bought alcohol no problem before with me there.
Hi all, hope everyone is having a good day so far. If anyone could offer me any advice about my situation, it would be greatly appreciated, and please no judgement, I get enough from my family.
I’m a 25 year old stay at home mom from Georgia. I’ve been separated from my husband for nearly 8 months now. We have a 1.5 year old toddler & we lived together up until August 2024 when I moved in with my sister. He worked a lot so he was barely home anyway. We’ve been married since June of 2022. (We’re going to divorce eventually, I just don’t know when he will cooperate).
My husband is a narcissist and an abuser. He has never hit me. But there have been other instances of abuse, and I would like to know if they qualify for a TPO. In May 2021, he forced me to get an abortion. The 2 months before I terminated the pregnancy, it was nothing but anger from him, telling me things like, “you’re getting rid of it.” Or “I will leave you if you have this baby.” That whole time period was incredibly traumatic and I was diagnosed with ptsd a year later. Oh, and I also found out he had cheated on me during those months too. I wish I documented it or filed a report. But I didn’t.
I don’t know why I stayed for so long. Fast forward to July 2024. I have bipolar disorder, anxiety, and ptsd. I’m having a panic attack in the bathtub & he didn’t like it. I don’t know why he wanted me out of the bathtub so badly but he kept screaming at me, telling me to “get the fuck up” over and over again. I didn’t get up because I wanted to stay in the bathtub and calm down. He then drained all the water out so I would be cold. Then he grabbed me and tried to drag me out of the bathtub. He grabbed me so hard it left bruises under my boobs, all while I was yelling that he was hurting me. When that didn’t work, he poured cold ass water on me to get me out. It worked. I filed a report with the police a few days later (I was scared), and it was considered Simple Battery, not enough probable cause to charge him though, but I was happy with it being on record.
When I moved out in August, he bought a gun. According to his Reddit account I think he has multiple now but I can’t confirm. Either way, guns scare me & he knows that. He has threatened violence on my sister and my brother in law. I have texts proving that. He also has locked me out of our bank account, changing the password several times the past few months so I can’t get in. He sends me money but not much. Mainly for our daughter and food. Which sucks because I’m behind on bills but it’s okay since I start my new job next week.
So he was supposed to come and pick up our daughter and have her for the next day and a half. Last night he tells me that he has to clean his house instead and asks if he could pick her up later or tomorrow. Which gets in the way of my errands and a doctor’s appointment I had scheduled weeks ahead of time. I have no issue bringing our daughter while I run errands or to the doctor with me, it’s just a hassle because he always expects me to be flexible with him and be available when he needs me to, and it’s a lot of driving back and forth. So I said, no, I will bring her to do my errands with me and now he is accusing me of “withholding” our daughter from him, saying I’m threatening him and stuff like that. Which baffles me, because he usually gets her 2-3 days a week, ever since I moved out. He refuses to move his “cleaning day”. But blames me?
Keep in mind during this whole situation, he non-stop emotionally abused me. It made me incredibly suicidal, and landed me a stay at a mental institution. Ever since I’ve moved out, my mental health has improved so much! I’m in therapy biweekly and I’ve been consistent with my medication for over a year now. I am afraid he could use my suicidal tendencies and my mental hospital experience against me somehow. I think he will try to paint me as unfit and mentally unstable.
I’m also worried that if I report the abortion, I’ll go to jail. Georgia has the heartbeat bill which doesn’t allow abortions after 6 weeks. He made me do it… and I’m scared of the consequences that could happen to me. I wanted that baby so bad… I have a shelf in my room dedicated to that baby and I grieve them everyday.
I’m afraid if I get a TPO, he’ll hurt me. He’s always said that if I took our daughter away from him, he wouldn’t know what he’d do. I think he’d come after me or my sister and brother in law. I don’t want to put their lives in danger as well but I’m scared and I’m not sure what to do. I don’t want to take his daughter away from him but I’m scared. I’m looking into a family lawyer and I’m going to the victim advocate office tomorrow. I have an appointment with a case worker regarding child support next week. I have copies of the police report I filed, along with screenshots of his threatening texts. I have audio recordings of him admitting to some of the abuse.
I’m sorry this is so long. Thank you for all your help in advance 🩷
