LexisNexis' SmartLinx (People Search): Non-Attorney Equivalent?

Hi. I am trying to determine a good tool for all-in-one background checks, primarily with regards to court records. I've used some free tools (Judy Records and unicourt [up to 3 queries]), but they each missed known court cases (that can be queried in the state government aggregation tooling [for a few different states] easily and in a matter of seconds). This has led me to consider paid tools, such as BeenVerified and TruthFinder, but I see a lot of customer reviews online that they're not great at this.

And then it dawned on me that I used LexisNexis to pull-up my own personal records once and was blown away by how thorough and accurate it was. I took a look and LexisNexis offers a "SmartLinx" product, which is designed to aggregate nearly only public records about people. However, since it includes some non-public records (information I'm NOT interested in), the tooling is restricted for use/purchase by attorneys. I tried querying the LexisNexis website for public data aggregation only products, such that a non-attorney can make use of it, but I didn't see anything.

Does anyone know of a good tool comparable to SmartLinx (by LexisNexis) for querying court cases associated with individuals, that a non-attorney can pay for and use?

My Dad deposited money in my account as the description being loan.

My Dad deposited money in my account as the description being loan. I don’t want to give it back as he then said it was a gift don’t worry now he wants it back. Does this stand in court? Can he get his money back?

Need for Justice

This is long and it is old and a bit difficult to explain. This happened in 1989 and it consumed 20 years of my life. I had been sentenced to prison in Colorado for a very complicated bit of circumstances too much to explain here. I was charged with 3 counts of possession of contraband which was 2 razor blades and a copper tube with a point. These were to insure my survival in a max security unit. Previous to my release in 1988 I was charged with these by the prison authorities and convicted in their administrative hearing and punished with punitive measures. That was 1987. 11 months later I was charged with the same 3 items as contraband in the 11th District Colorado District court as 3 class 5 felonies and arraigned in that court. I had a public defender. He offered to get me a psych exam as maybe a way out of this dilemma. Finally after I had been severely injured they rushed me to the hospital for examination and to reassemble my left forearm having been cut with a razor blade by an assailant. The psych exam found me without disease or defect to make me dangerous to myself or others. The court ordered another exam which again found me competent.
The court was not too happy with this and this was all so bizarre considering that survival in a murderous environment was up to me and now they were charging me with 3 counts with up to 16 years per count for simply preparing to defend myself. (FOR THE SECOND TIME). (DOUBLE JEOPARY). The prison environment was so detestable and such a vicious circle of being set up like this I did not want to even live there. The court appointed me a new attorney who said he knew a psychiatrist who could get me committed to the state hospital and I could soon be free. I visited the psych twice. No exam. Soon there was a court.

My apologies at this point. This is my first post and was not completed, so in the interest of brevity, I will get to the essence. Who should I go to to overturn an illegal decision that cost me 20 years of my life? The presiding judge explained it was illegal when he freed me 15 years ago as there was no report describing my condition as required by law. I am looking for remedy as this entire fake scenario has made my life extremely difficult to live with.

How to find someones attorney

My ex FIL passed a couple of years ago. I recently found out there was a trust left to my kids in his will. the only information that he had, at the time of him making the will, was a very old phone number and address. His son, my ex, was the executor of the estate, who has zero contact with the kids. Has had NC for almost 5 years now. There was a protection order in place for approx a year against him for the kids and after that he has never reached out to see/speak to them. Here is the issue. I have no clue who his attorney was and I would like to secure my kids future trust for their schooling in a few short years. I am 99.9999% sure that my ex misused/rerouted their trust to his personal account to start/help his business and home remodeling that he did. My question is, how do I find his lawyer? Yes, my ex pays minimal child support a month but in all honesty, it doesn't even cover their food costs, let alone ANYTHING else they are involved with. I can not have his support reviewed for months to come. I was able to save before he had his support lowered by lying to the Family support division (stating he makes WAY less than he actually does. he says he is making about $40k a year vs $200k a year. He thinks I do not know about his company and that he can only secure part time work in his industry. I know that he did that purposefully a few years ago when he started his business.

Any help would be appreciated!

3rd tier sub owed 40k

I got my first project manager position in 2023. I worked for a local steel fabricator in florida for over a year. During my tenur I had issues with the subcontractors they were using for installing the products in commercial construction. The subs were extremely unreliable and the relationship was bad because the owner would drag out their pay.

In addition to the issues with the subs, the company also had more work than it could keep up with and I was tasked to get more crews to perform installations. This was difficult because the budgets were low- we were already a 2nd tier sub usually under a larger fabricator.

I started subcontracting my own company to perform work- I had workers compensation and general liability. I had already been operating a mobile welding business on the side for a few years specializing in trailers and flat beds.

This was working well for the first few jobs in 2023, I had complete control of the work it was like having an in house crew and they were doing the work well.

The issue was the owner was extremely slow to pay. Sometimes over 90 days. However, he did always end paying me even if he nickel and dimes me not paying the full invoices. As frustrating as this was It was still better then nothing....

until 2024, he owes me 40k and I was terminated in November. I had my crews working his jobs until October... I have unpaid invoices from April of 2024.

We did have an accident on a job that got back charges in August and it I don't understand why it took until December to figure it out but it was about 10k in charges.

Since I was working as PM for the company I do not have NTOs in place and I think the time frame for any liens has passed on these jobs.

I call this guy every day and email him everyday looking for my money. I put up all the labor costs and all the tools and equipment to install these jobs. Can I get a lawyer? What would my chances of success be? I've been trying to be friendly hoping a positive relationship would assist in getting paid but this crazy and I am not the only one he treats this way.

Any advice on what to do to get this money would be a great help. I have a family to take care of and this situation has crippled me financially now and left me in debt.

Client (hospital) not paying me (1099 contractor) and owes $5000 from October 2024. What are the next best steps? (Located in Illinois, US)

Despite multiple attempts to obtain payment, the hospital continues to fail to pay. They have even promised to send me the payment and never did.

I'm considering sending a demand letter for payment within 1 week. Do I send both an email and certified physical mail?

I'm thinking the next step after the demand letter is to file a claim in small claims court.

Do you have any other suggestions?

This has been very, very difficult and unexpected behavior for such an organization.

TIA for any suggestions.

Should I get a lawyer?

I got pulled over doing 53 in a 35 in NC. This is my first time ever being pulled over and it was in a rental car. The cop said that I could probably get a PJC because it’s my first ticket and I was in a rental car. I’ve had people tell me to get a lawyer and others say I should be fine. What are y’all’s opinions??

Could I sue for sexual harassment?

My employer has made several advances to me, including inappropriately commenting on my body and making other off-putting comments. He even went so far as to text me to come to a certain part of the store, and when I went there, he kissed me. It was completely off guard and I felt very uncomfortable. He texted me and asked if I was okay and I said I’m fine just caught off guard. He did it again that night when I came out of the bathroom. I told my other manager, whom was fired later for different reasons. I still have text message proof, but have not told any other manager yet. He is no longer harassing me, I think he caught the vibe I was giving him. He has also harassed other employees.

Fork in the Road, OPM email

Vaccinations records

I got bit by a dog and the owner still hasn't provided documentation of its record. I went to the ER cause It was a level 4 bite on my hand. I called animal control a few days later for an update on the dogs vaccinations, and he still didn't have them. I'm not worried that the dog has rabies. It's very unlikely but animal control wasn't actually trying to get documents. He told me to just go ahead and get the rabies vaccine. It's been 12 days now since I got bit and there still is no update on its vaccination records. The owner told me her dog is acting fine and showing absolutely no signs of rabies. Is what the animal control guy doing allowed? He never went to go check on the dog so who even knows how it is doing.

Why is it impossible to recover stolen money on the blokchain?

I am a lawyer in Spain and I have seen crypto thefts for very high values, even 100000€. It is impossible to recover that money, why?

Can a lawyer take a look at the grievance against Donald Trump I would like to file?

Citizens of the USA

VS

Donald Trump & JD Vance

GREIVEENCE

In accordance with my first Amendment right to petition this government for a redress of my grievance, I state the following:

  1. In January 6th, 2021 Donald Trump engaged in insurrection.
  2. Since January 6th, 2021, Donald Trump and JD Vance have given aid and comfort to the insurrectionists. Most recently, he has pardoned those who pled guilty or were found guilty of insurrection.
  3. The 14th Amendment forbids the defendants from holding their respective offices. Therefore, I demand that Donald Trump and JD Vance be declared illegitimate holders of their office and removed therefrom.
  4. The defendant on January 20th, 2025, swore the oath of office “faithfully execute the office of president of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
  5. The defendants went acted against the constitution of the United States of America  on the first day of holding office and continued to do so there after. On January 20th, 2025 the defendant signed the executive order “GRANTING PARDONS AND COMMUTATION OF SENTENCES FOR CERTAIN OFFENSES RELATING TO THE EVENTS AT OR NEAR THE UNITED STATES CAPITOL ON JANUARY 6, 2021” this goes against Amendment 14 Section 3 and disqualifies the defendant from holding office.
  6. Additionally the defendant violated Amendment 14 Section 1 twice by signing the following two executive orders on the same day; January 20, 2025,  “PROTECTING THE MEANING AND VALUE OF AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP” and “DEFENDING WOMEN FROM GENDER IDEOLOGY EXTREMISM AND RESTORING BIOLOGICAL TRUTH TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT” neither of which is within the power of the president of the united states, and yet they were still enacted.

Misuse of handicap parking

In the State of Florida what are the rules for handicap parking in an apartment complex. In my complex there are four buildings with a total of approximately 12 handicap parking spaces. This is my dilemma, one of the residents who lives there is monopolizing one of the spaces. He leaves his pickup there all the time therefore not allowing anyone else to utilize the space. Is this legal and what can be done if it’s not. I am disabled and my space is far from the building just as a side note. Thanks!! Also I live in Miami Dade county if that makes any difference. 👍🏼 *** Forgot to mention, this resident leaves his truck parked in the spot and does not move it. It just sits there. Which is why I’m upset about the situation. He’s misusing the space and not allowing anyone else to park there at all.

Risk sued/arrested?

New account since I deleted my old one and all the posts on it.

I was part of an influencer snark subreddit. I was a previous fan of said influencer but after they gave birth started noticing some concerning behaviours with them. I found their snark subreddit and made some comments and posts there - while most of it is snark many really do care about them and we would offer advice/ways to fix amongst the snark. At one point someone posted a picture of their house prior to renovations and didn’t realize the house number was on it - post was removed form the subreddit within less than a day (I never commented on this specific post - but should be noted that the influencer also has a video on their YouTube as a house tour though no house numbers). The influencer then went on a rant and said they were doxxed and had a PI getting people on the subreddits members IP addresses and were pursuing legal action. (Should also note that a frequent topic in the sub is the influencer putting herself and her family at risk by repeatedly live snap chatting where they are including the time they have appointments at specific places and the hotel they are staying at and how the influencer is more of a safety risk than the subreddit) I continued to post a bit after this - always commenting on the content they post as a public figure. Recently they said they have information on posters and said they want to call their employers and tell them what people are saying about them. They also alluded to lawyers working on things in the background.

Guess my question is am I at risk of being sued for participating in a snark subreddit? Is it harassment to participate in these subs? I never intended to target this person but just was baffled there was not criticism anywhere online until I saw that sub and found they delete anything things that are just mild criticism with ways to improve. I did see they took down a bunch of content for copyright claims recently - so could the influencer have been bluffing and this is all they were doing? Just super paranoid I could be charged for commenting (and again - I never named where they were specifically at any time)

What should I do?

Backstory: Mom and Dad got married and had a kid(me) in 1972. In 1975, mom and dad went to court(she never showed up)and Dad was awarded full custody and mom was only given "reasonable visitation". Dad went home and Mom and I were gone. Found out later we moved many states. Mind you..... I was 3 at the time. This was in 1975. Dad passed away in 2006. I never met him, never knew him. Fast forward to 2024. I found out that Dad was given full custody. I'm pissed. She treated me like trash my entire life and I feel like she robbed me of my entire childhood. Her and I had no relationship for 30 years because she threw me out at 15. I'm angry, I'm mad, can I press charges? What legally can be done? I have evidence that she was not awarded custody, and I have evidence she abused me as a child.(CPS involvement) I don't know how to separate the paragraphs, so if this runs... I'm sorry

Co-Owner took car title (California)

Hello, I had a car loan that I made all but the final 3 payment on. In the final 3 payments I was late on one, lender called co-owner, the co-owner paid the remainder of the loan (about $850), had the title sent to their house and will not respond or contact me. What can I do?

My dad wants his stuff back after telling me I could have it

Basically my dad, not real dad but adopted dad, is a psycho and wasted all his money trying to fight my mother in a divorce over nothing. So he wasn’t able to pay for his duplex and was to be evicted. He called me and said I could have whatever in his house since he was taking none of it and didn’t care about it and was just gonna live out of his truck. So I took a few things and most importantly a pc that was my brothers, which I took to my brother, who still has it at our mothers house. He magically paid off everything he was in debt to the day of his eviction and now has been on my ass about his stuff, so I said I’ll bring back whatever I have but I’m not going to my moms house to get the pc and he can get it back from my brother. So he keeps hinting at calling the police or something. I would imagine that they wouldn’t do anything since one, the pc is my brothers, he told me I could take it. This guy has made my entire life miserable and I’m tired of going out of my way to do stuff for him. Is this actually something that could harm me

I'm being served over the stupidest thing

Sometime 2022 I got in a minor car accident. Nothing big her car had a mere scratch. Our insurances worked it out. Oddly this person tried suing my old insurance (which I don't have anymore) that failed and now they are trying to sue me personally. They had a few process servers come to my parents house and try to leave the papers their but I don't really talk to my parents and also I don't live their. Im not wasting my time on some broad who wants free easy money as almost 3 years have already gone by. Honestly the fact they even allow her to sue me is pretty asinine since she failed suing my old insurance for money. She didn't file a report and she didn't go to the hospital she went to a chiropractor pretty much spent her money their and is saying she missed out from work due to the "traumatization" (what a fucking clown lol) Process servers left documents outside of my parents house but neither them or I got them. They just left them outside of the house for the wind to blow them away. They didn't handed them to my parents or I. And like I said I'm estranged to my parents so. The only reason why I know is because my sister mentioned it as she lives their.

Better to not get our car repaired through insurance when already filing a claim to repair the other person's vehicle?

Is there any benefit to not filing a claim to fix our car when they are already paying out the person we hit?

We hit a car in our condo complex, very minor. The person we hit took her car to a couple body shops that quoted her around $3000 (cracked bumper and headlight) so we decided to go through insurance rather than pay out of pocket.

Our car is already in not great shape and the added dent in the door is just another addition to the many dings.

Because of this, we were thinking to just have insurance pay for the other party and not worry about repairs for our vehicle. Would it affect our rates and possibility of getting dropped more if we had our car repaired? Or does is the only thing that goes into account the fact that an incident occured?

Slumlord Rental Company Possible Illegal Charges?

Hi everyone, I could really use some advice. I was renting a house through a company, and the place was in pretty bad shape when we moved in. It seemed like no one from the company had inspected it in years. When we moved out, a lot of the existing damage was unfairly blamed on us. To make things worse, they sent us the final statement after the legal 45-day limit in our state. Now I've received a letter from collections, and I’m not sure what to do next.

This company preys on first-time renters and is notorious for pulling stuff like this. I know I should have documented everything, but it was my first time renting—I had no clue and no support from anyone else. Any help or advice would be really appreciated!

I’m being retaliated against for requesting an accommodation, what can I do?

For reference I live in Kansas. I have a disability which is protected under ADA. I’m experiencing retaliation for requesting the accommodation. Here’s the timeline:

August 15, 2024 I had a positive conversation with my two managers about how they can better support me. I went on a two week vacation and came back in September. September- mid October things were fine Late October the executive director let me and the other staff members know that we would have to start coming into the office for 8 hours Tuesday and Thursday. We were previously able to work 6 hours in office and 2 at home. We also had flexibility to work from home if we weren’t feeling well on T/Th. I let my managers know that I would be requesting an accommodation for my disability around October 22nd I submitted an official accommodation request on November 8. November 12 - Had a meeting with two managers who critiqued your performance. November 22 - Received a harsh reprimand via email and Teams from the manager I report to, accusing me of not being diligent in reviewing a a project. I suggested that the issue could be dealt with a certain way to which she disagreed with and went on a rampage and embarrassed herself in front of her superiors just to see that I was right. November 26 - Alleged to have had a political conversation in the office, but without specifics. November 28th - I’m freelance photographer and used to take pictures for work events. Not part of my job description. I have it in writing January 26, 2024 that I don’t have to do unless I want to. I requested to not do photography as I was busy with work obligations. December 3 - Was forced into doing photography for an event. January 29, 2025 - Written up for misconduct, alleging I made disparaging remarks to colleagues in one-on-one meetings and public spaces. The comments were vague, and no specific concerns were addressed. I was also blindsided with this meeting as my managers framed it as a check in. January 30, 2025 - My manager submitted the write-up in Workday but mistakenly listed the date as January 26 instead of January 29. I asked her to fix it. January 31, 2025 - Directors, including the Executive Director, met. The meeting was labeled as a “check-in,” which I found suspicious and unusual.

So far I’ve reported this to Title IX since the university I work for covers disability. I also reported to the Kansas Human Rights Commission and whistleblower protections department. I filed an inquiry with the EEOC.

I was planning to talk to the head of HR Monday fingers crossed I can get an appointment with her.

What else can I do to protect myself? And how soon after this write up do you think they’re going to fire me?
