Van Life in Laramie?

Hi everyone, I will be working a ~ 6 month seasonal job in Laramie starting next summer and am strongly considering buying a van and setting it up to live out of for that duration. I've yet to experience a Laramie winter but I've heard they're pretty brutal, and I'm wondering whether you guys think van life could be feasible or not. Obviously I'd have to build in lots of insulation but my main concerns are still staying warm in the cold & wind and whether a rwd van could handle the winter roads. After the job term ends I wouldn't have an income and would be looking to just spend some time travelling around or finding another temporary job such as one at a ski resort, so I really don't want to be tied into an annual lease in Laramie that would have a hefty fine to break early. The job term is also variable depending on things like how much overtime I work and if funding is available to keep me on for longer so I'm not even completely sure how long I'll be there.

I've looked around and it seems impossible to find any apartment leases around town that aren't annual unless it's just for the summer when students are gone. I worked the same job last summer but had to quit in August as I am still a student (graduating from CSU in may 2025) so it worked out perfectly just finding a sublease with someone who's roommate had moved out for the summer. I am currently living with my parents in Colorado and the drive is way too far to make a daily commute (about an hour and 1/2) but their house would still be a sort of home base to come back to on weekends and holidays. Is this feasible or do I just really need to give up the idea of working the same job and look for something elsewhere? I work in the natural resources field so a permenant year-round job as a new graduate is nothing but a pipe dream, and I'd run into many of the same issues finding short-term housing elsewhere, just likely with a bit milder weather.

Emo in Laramie Wyoming

For the fucking love of hell, is there any emo, grunge, alt, punk, metal heads in this fucking state? And if so where the fuck if at all, are my type of people in Laramie? As far as I’ve found so far I’m alone out here, which is perfect 99.99% of the time but fuck.

Looking for someone to access material in UWYO American Heritage Center archives - PAID!

Hi all.

I'm posting on behalf of my partner, who is a master's student in London.

They are looking for a current University of Wyoming student or independent researcher based in Laramie who might be able to scan or photograph some documents stored in two collections held by the American Heritage Center.

Please let me know if this is something you might be able to do! You will be paid $50 as well as credited in an academic paper.

Thanks so much in advance!

Auto mechanic

Anybody have a mechanic they use on a regular basis they can recommend? My go-to here in town is getting unreliable and their mark-up on parts and labor is getting unbearable. I have a really great shop i use in Boulder but it's hard to get a broken car there. Need someone local.

Looking to rent a Snoo over Christmas

Hi Laramie parents!

My husband and I are visiting family in Laramie this Christmas with our infant who will be almost 4 months old when we visit. We have a Snoo at home and it’s the only way our infant will sleep at night. We’re interested in renting one while we’re in WY from 12/20-12/29. While we can rent from the official website, I was wondering if anyone has one they’re not using right now and we could short term rent? Send me a msg if you’re interested!

Uptick in loud cars?

Hey, I live in the UW apartments, closer to Grand. Can’t help but notice recently (past 6 months or so) that there’s been a sharp uptick in loud cars going up and down Grand (I think). All hours of the day, and we’re talking like every 20 minutes or so I’m hearing this. Hell, I was downtown yesterday and I saw this one big red truck with under lights just gun it as loudly as they could on Grand.

I’ve been here for just over 4 years and it’s never been this bad.

Any clue what’s going on?

ISO UW Football tickets this weekend

Hello peeps, hope everyone is well. I am looking for some tickets for the game on Saturday, there’s still plenty for sale but I figured I would check with everyone first to see if anyone wanted to get rid of some. I am trying to keep this as cheap as possible. Thanks all! Need 2 tickets.

Tax

How much do you think the latest housing tax (surface drainage fee) is going to cost laramie property owners/renters every month? The City council will be approving the first step in the process at their next meeting. Why don't people care about these things?

Wedding photographers?

Hello everyone!

Me and my partner are having a kind of last minute Christmas wedding on December 14th, and were wondering if there are any wedding photographers that may be available that day? I know that it is winter graduation weekend too and last minute so it may be hard to find someone, but if anyone knows anyone we would be glad to hear from you 😊😊

Volunteer Organizations

Hello!

I’m a new college student in the town, and I was wondering if there were any volunteer organizations that would work for a student at the university. I don’t need it to be on a resume or anything, I genuinely want to help the people in this community and get to know them.

Is there any orgs like that? Stuff like the soup kitchen and such that are open between ~8-5 are a no go, but if I can assist in any way to any organization let me know!

Thanks!

friendsgiving + christmas plans?

hi all - this is a question / discussion, wasn't really sure which label to pick.

my boyfriend (25m) and i (24f) both have pretty not so great families that we don't speak to, and so we don't have anyone to spend the holidays with.

we both live here in laramie now, and it's the first year for both of us that we won't have any family. so i was wondering if anyone else is in a similar boat and/or would maybe want to do a friendsgiving and/or something around christmas time together.

we're both new here and work from home, so we really haven't met anyone. it's just us and our dog sunflower, so if anyone would like to plan something for a group of people, let me know.

Thinking about moving to Laramie

I’m considering a job at the university of Wyoming. I currently work at a university in Florida in a fairly liberal city. I like it here but Florida state politics are becoming overwhelming. I used to live in Oklahoma in a smaller town and I hated it. I’m curious what people think about a liberal person moving there. I have two teenage kids. I like outdoor activities and don’t mind the idea of living outside of the city with land for livestock and pets.

where have you seen a bunch of stickers in Laramie?

I'm a tattoo apprentice in town and I'd like to get my name out there, using stickers! wondering if any of the people that walk or ride bikes or even university students know of any places you've seen a bunch of stickers so I can add mine, or even a place or two where they would look good if anyone (me) took advantage of it! @gowdfish on insta if you'd like to see the ones I've done already :)
