Hello, I applied for the Master of Computing program at Lakehead University on October 19th. The application status changed to "Department Review" on November 19th, and then to "Decision Pending" on November 21st. I'm a bit nervous as the decision is taking longer .Could you please advise when I might expect to hear back?
Hello! I graduated from college with background in architecture, and after a few years of working, I've decided to pursue a degree in civil engineering before I get any older. I've been asked to provide Eng4U as part of the admission requirements, but since I didn't attend high school in Canada, I don't have that course. I explained to the admissions officer that I completed college-level English classes during my three years in college, but unfortunately, she did not accept that.
I'm curious if Eng4U is a requirement for all students applying to Lakehead after a few years away from school. What happens if I can't get the English requirement certificate by the deadline? I'm currently working full-time until school starts (fingers crossed for my admission), which makes it a bit challenging to focus on this right now. I'm trying to carve out some time to work on the online class. Is there an alternative way to meet the English requirement? I still have some time to address this, but I really want to start school in Fall 2025, and I'm quite worried that the English requirement might prevent my admission.
Also, how long does it usually take to hear back from Lakehead regarding admission results? I submitted my application, and the status has been "Assessment pending" for over four weeks now. I've already received an admission offer from the Engineering program at Carleton, but I'm hoping to attend Lakehead due to the more affordable tuition and the possibility of transferring some of my college credits. To be honest, I'm feeling a bit discouraged about my admssion because of the lengthy application process, and whenever I reach out with questions, I only receive general responses that don't address my specific situation. I'm curious about the quality of student support at Lakehead. Has anyone else felt the same way?
Thank you so much for any helpful information!
Hi guys! I was wondering your opinions on lakehead TB campus (I’ve applied for environmental management). It’s pretty far from where I live, about a 16 hour drive so I likely won’t be able to tour. However the program allows for qualification to become a wildlife biologist without any more schooling, so I’m seriously considering it as my top option. How is student life, and more specifically how is residence? I’ve heard some pretty bad things, but mostly from years ago, so I guess I’m wondering if anything has gotten any better? And, as a person living in a very small town in southern Ontario (<1000 people) I’m sort of worried about moving to Thunder Bay. So, do you guys consider Thunder Bay to be an unsafe place? Anyways, any input would be amazing!
Hi there! I’m a college civil engineering tech student thats looking to transfer at the end of next year. I read online that you need a 70% average “in your final year” I’m in year 2 but I’ve taken year 3 classes already as they didn’t have a prerequisite. Would those classes be exempt from the “final year” or do the just purely look at your schools final year classes. Thanks for any help anyone can provide :)
Hello, guys
I have gained my civil engineering diploma at Calgary, and lived Alberta for 10yrs now. But It is really hard to find the job ( I guess for most of people). So I was thinking to get degree at Lakehead University for better career. How's it living in the city there? Do people mostly going to Orillia or Thunder Bay?, My importants is place to rent while study and work for daily living.
Any advice would be great for me
Thank you!

Hello everyone,
I am an incoming student for the Master of Education program, with an intake year of 2025. I would like to know the step-by-step process for registering for courses using the Lakehead University portal.
Could someone please guide me through the process or share a resource that explains it clearly? Any tips for a smooth registration would also be appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your support!
I was reviewing a friend’s slide deck for their Machine Learning course this semester, and I was absolutely *shocked* 😳 to discover that most of the explanations, examples, and even images were directly taken from a YouTube channel.
This channel, which explains concepts in Hindi (a widely spoken language in Asia), is quite popular. What’s surprising to me is the striking similarity in examples and visuals used on the slides compared to the ones from this channel. It makes me wonder: what’s the probability of such a coincidence?
For context, I completed this YouTube playlist, *100 Days of Machine Learning*, six months ago, so I recognized the content immediately. Here’s the link to the playlist for reference: [100 Days of Machine Learning](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKnIA16\_Rmvbr7zKYQuBfsVkjoLcJgxHH&si=uNbDFIpCmYZwuicK).
On top of that, I’ve noticed that their ML question papers are often sourced from recent Lahore University exams, with only minor value changes by the professor.
Honestly, I’m so glad I didn’t take this course.
P.S. At Lakehead University, I believe it’s mandatory for students to complete the AIM (Academic Integrity Matter) course. Just saying. 🥲
I am looking at enrolling for fall 2025 what are peoples feelings about the school, I'm ether looking at getting a bussiness degree or a comp. science degree.
Nursing Students; Anyone that works as a UCA at the tbrhsc
Hello everyone,
I’m currently in my first year of the compressed nursing program, and would be in Thunder Bay over the summer next year, trying to make some plans; I would like to get more information about working as a UCA at the hospital
Thanks 🙏
For selecting grade levels to teach (I/S or P/J) do you decide this at the end of first year, similar to queens program, or are you set with the program level you applied to?
Thanks!
how hard is it to get into the con ed programs at lakehead?I’m looking into the mathematics one for senior teaching.
Hi I am currently considering my options for a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program and would greatly appreciate any insights you may have on choosing between Confederation College and Lakehead University.
Should I take the offer from Confe or should I push harder to see if I can get into Lakehead?
My situation is as follows:↳
Given these factors, I would value your advice on which program might better align with my professional goals, as well as my personal circumstances.
Appreciate any insight. Thank you very much.
Hi everyone,
Posting this here to see if lakehead has any single stall washrooms.
TW: SA
As an SA survivor, I (M) suffer from anxiety and discomfort using washrooms without lock on the door. I'm starting in a few weeks, and am working on getting better. But wanted to see if there are any single stall washrooms that I can lock the door on. Thanks!!
Edit: Just wanted to thank everyone for genuinely helpful answers. It was surprisingly wholesome. Thanks everyone.
I’m just finishing up my forest tech diploma and I’m considering the 2 for 2 with Lakehead. Is it the way to go? Are there better options? How’s student life? I need advice!
Hiii so I’m kind of new~ish to Thunder Bay, its been kind of difficult making friends here especially since everyone tends to be in a clique and not wanting to expand their circle, most especially in my classes or maybe I’m not just putting myself out there, so here I am. I have been here for a few months or almost a year and that’s just my own 2 cents. I am looking forward to expanding my social circle and down on explore more activities with different people, I am an introvert but open up more the more I get comfortable around a person. I did move from another country so I do miss the friends I made back home but I tend to prefer quality time with people. Anyways I think I just rambled off a little bit but yeah looking forward to meeting people, feel free to dm me. I’m 19 btw so kind of looking for people my age range kind off (both genders, idk why I had to specify😭)Thanks.
Hey, I'm currently pursuing a diploma in electrical engineering technology and was wondering if it's common to receive a scholarship transferring from a technology degree into 3rd year?
Any information or experiences would be awesome 🙏
Hey there! I’m new to Thunder Bay and on the lookout for a friend who shares an interest in stand-up comedy, outdoor activities, and good conversations. Here’s a bit about me:

Hello, I am wondering what the competitive admission averages are for the eng programs at Lakehead? I couldn't find any sources online. Will you most likely be admitted if you are just above the 70% average minimum threshold? If you're wondering, I'm specifically looking into chemical engineering.
Thank you
Hi guys, I want to apply for Lakehead University Nursing. I am new to canada and I am attending to high school right now. I hope I will complete some of the prerequisites before the application deadline for Fall 2025.
I am an international student with psychology bachelor. And now I am taking chemistry 12 biology 12, math12 and I will do English 12.
What grades do I need? I got 90 out of chemistry 11. And I won’t be able to start Eng4u before the second semester. If anyone has any idea can you please share? Thank you so much.
So I am wondering how manageable the workload is in the ConEd program. Would you say the rigour is similar to other universities or more manageable?
Which would be the more ideal choice for getting my BEd? For reference I’m looking at teaching either Primary/Junior grades.
Thank you all again for your feedback!
Here is a carefully curated playlist dedicated to the new independent French producers. Several electronic genres covered but mostly chill. The ideal backdrop for concentration and relaxation. Perfect for staying focused my study sessions or relaxing after work.

Good morning. Is anyone taking the intro to criminalistic course? I can’t find a video on the D2L. And not sure if the prof will get back to me on time.
Hello everyone,
I graduated from Mohawk College with a diploma in Business Administration - Marketing. I am currently struggling to find work after school and am considering getting a degree.
I believe Lakehead has a program where I can do an additional one or two years to get my degree.
I was wondering if anyone had more insight on this, where I can go to learn more or if anyone has done this transition themselves.
I’m worried the transition moving from college to university will be too much.
Thanks!
Hey all, I've shared here previously that I am a mature student who returned to university after a few thousand years away from it. I'm currently taking undergrad courses at the Orillia campus, majoring in English, and specializing in creative writing.
I don't know if it's because I am finally studying something I love, a type of tonal shift from pre-pandemic learning to the post-pandemic model, my age now vs. back then, or something else entirely, but so far, my courses don't feel that "hard", especially compared to when I was last in University. I'm actually enjoying myself in my classs. I feel like I am engaging in the material a lot better, and it's exciting to me to study things that are appealing to me, and don't necessarily have to follow standardized learning templates. As such, I feel I am excelling in most of my classes.
While I know it's only my first semester in my first year, this is definitely not what I was expecting. As such, I almost feel overwhelmed with how "easy" everything feels, which of course leads to a type of imposter syndrome, that I don't deserve to feel this good, and that perhaps I actually am in way over my head, and don't quite realize it yet. Is this normal? Am I crazy, or just overthinking this?
